Funny And Clever Chinese ‘Shanzhai’ Brands

KFG Chicken?

KFG 啃他鸡 = "Nibble His Chicken" (rest assured the innuendo applies in Chinese as well).

山寨 = shanzhai = literally “mountain stronghold” in reference to historical warlord holdouts that were outside of government control. A “shanzhai” edition product thus refers to products outside of government regulations that are widely reflected in the numerous fake and knockoff electronics/commodities made in China today. The term “shanzhai” can also refer to things that are improvised or home-made and are generally crude in both form and function (the closest English equivalent would be “ghetto”).

  1. Creativity? When we will see strong brands “made by china” then chinese will demonstrate creativity!
For the moment they only demonstrate they are good at cheating (and sometimes not even good at that). Cheating is easy, and of course needs less effort than create and consolidate a good brand.
For people that defends or consumes 山寨 : don´t be fool to think you are damaging the original brand… you are only making rich some people that do not care about your safety/health or other regulations like workers conditions or environment protection.

  2. I’m still waiting to pick up my Sorny TV.

  3. @Jay, isn’t it already true that China already has name of cheap products and copies??

Unless it’s a big brand (Sumsung, Philips and others) if it’s sold through one of the ‘cheap’ websites, it looks like fake to me. Look at this website : http://www.treasury6.com/ They sell the product so cheap, it cannot be real. some/all? of there apple products are half the price of the original. I possible cannot image everything they sell is original.

  4. hahahahha this is really hilarious.

The marketing law department in China is not working too hard, huh?

    teehee

  5. they might as well copy the brands exactly. what they currently have can’t be legal anyways right?

  6. Yeah. I gotta say that the Chinese are doing it big once again. I saw these photos on a American website and was amazed at how clever and how neat this marketing ploy really is.

Big ups to the folks that thought about this one! I would a pair of Punks and some Sqny batteries LOL

  7. There’s no boundaries in the Shanzhai world. Now that Shanzhai copy products are being more widely distributed, when one Shanzhai model becomes popular another Shanzhai factory will knock it off for a cheaper cost. The eternal flame of the Shanzhai concept is to make an alternative product at a cheaper cost.

Generally speaking, every time a Shanzhai product is copied by another Shanzhai factory the final product is even worse because the new guys need to find a way to cut costs.

  8. Capitalism Rocks Communism Sucks

That’s because it’s not R&D it’s INDUSTRIAL ESPIONAGE and COPYING.

[Note from Fauna: Comments under different names (GO CAPITALISM, lol/LOL, Capitalist Pig, COMMUNISM SUCKS, Counterfeit Eggs, Capitalism Rocks Communism Sucks, & BRING HER TO JUSTICE).]

  9. You don’t rise to China’s greatness by merely making knock-off brands. Technological advancement and science help too.

May Satan and China rule some day!!!

  10. Why are the comments in the chinese section referring to “creative”…
i don’t tend to think that imitating other brands are creative.
its totally the opposite of creative

  11. After looking at these pictures, I realized there is hope for your nation.
    2 words: pathetic, idiot!

  12. haha! didn’t know the chineses could fake their own brands 哈哈
