Shenzhen Man Begs On Knees At Police Station

Man kneels down in front of a police station begging for help to get his passport back.

While passing by the Nanhu police station on Nanhu Road today, I saw an interesting scene, a gentleman kneeling down in front of the police station door holding up a sign “begging for report receipt” [evidence of a person reporting a crime to be investigated by the police]. Incredibly curious, I went over to figure out what was going on: This dear friend’s passport had been detained/witheld by some travel agency, and at 10:30 in the morning he called 110 to request the police to help recover his passport. The police station had a police officer with the surname Luo who had an extremely bad attitude say that this matter is a dispute, so they cannot handle it, and then stormed out.

This dear friend requested the police station provde a report receipt so he could get his passport, but Mr. Luo police office again said: we cannot give you this receipt, and even if you kneel down and beg me, it will be no use…

All the way until 2:00 in the afternoon, everyone from the police station ignored this dear friend. Later, what happened was what you see in the pictures below…this gentleman is too creative, even making a sign, and directly kneeling down to beg…

After using a sign to beg for a police report, a police officer finally helps the man.

Only until this dear friend raised his sign and got on his knees in front of the police station, did the police station staff come out to inquire. Then a police officer (shown in the photo) came over looking extremely angry: “Do you want to handle it or not? Do you really want to handle it it? If you do, then come in!!” In front of the surrounding crowd, he indicated with his thumb for the man to go inside in a casual way like how friends tell each other to leave!!! In the end, I do not know if this gentleman accomplished his goal, but I feel he was really creative for doing something this, so comical…

Harmonious society…

Our society is very powerful.

Raising a bunch of pigs is better than raising a bunch of bastards [the police]. China, these dog shits.

This bunch of JC still have not absorbed Yang Jia‘s lesson.

I want to know…after that person went in, did he come back out???

“POLICE” are not gods, taking care of everything, even dealing with travel agencies withholding passports.

The inside story is that the police officer took one look at the passport and realized he was a “bangzi!” So this story happened.

At this very moment, I deeply yearn for comrade Yang Jia.

If you do not understand, do not speak blindly, I do not know what your profession is!!! You can get rid of the pol.ice and then what it is like, you guys will probably have to sleep with a machine gun! Police have to work day and night, so why are there always people pointing and criticizing them because of a few things. Who can use a bit of fairness to go evaluate your guys’ professions?

That was the Dalai [Lama] in disguise, here to disrupt our “river crab” society.
[The Chinese commenter wrote "河蟹" which is "river crab." It sounds similar to "和谐" which is "harmonious."]

Not towards all “pol.ice,” I believe many “pol.ice” are still good, but right now there are more and more “pol.ice” in the process of becoming trash, or are already trash.

You went in???
If you went in, do not bother thinking about coming back out normally; you will be lucky just to crawl back out, pig [idiot]…
You think this is America; where you are allowed to randomly YY?

How can it be like this? Are they not supposed to serve the people?

Having trouble finding police, dial 110???
This sentence has become empty words.

It appears this kind of thing happens a lot.
It happened by my home before. There was an armored truck company boss whose wife was about to give birth but he did not have enough money on himself. He said to the doctor, I will go home and get money, please help my wife. He then went home to get money but came back to find his own wife dead under the “save the dying and nurse the wounded” banner. In his anger, he went home, and brought a gun to the hospital, knelt down and, after killing 4 people and injuring 8 people in one sweep, he gave himself up.
This is the reality of life, just deal with it.

Not comical!
But pretty creative!!!

You can only blame this person for forgetting to give a “red envelope” [bribe]. This is the style/practice of Chinese government employees.

When the public security [police] beats people, the news will not report it…but when the public security grabs a chicken egg [do something small and unimportant], the news reports on it daily.

I am already speechless.
Anything that happens in China is not one bit weird!

is difficult to find police!!!

My younger brother [or younger male cousin] is a small business owner in Nanshan district. One day, one of his contract workers ran away with the cash, digital camera, DVD player, and other stuff with a total value of tens of thousands of RMB from his apartment. So my younger brother went to the Nanshan district Daxin police station to report it, and they simply would not issue a receipt, telling you to go home and wait.

  1. I thought Shenzhen is more of a civil society than the rest of china’s cities since it is where the reform began. looks like no one cares about poor folks, life’s tough for them.

  2. Ah, I didn’t know he was poor…But, he is a funny guy though.

  3. I suppose the guy who wrote this on netease was his friend, yeah?

It looks like the best way to get things done in China is to do a public performance and have a friend post it immediately on the BBS. If your picture is interesting enough you will get thousands of supporters in a matter of hours.

  4. In most countries passports belong to the government and if someone tries to keep or “kidnap” someones passport the police will definately get involved. China’s police are rarely interested in just helping people – unless they are forced to help or if there is money in it for them. No wonder people hate them so much!

  5. Q. What is the only difference between robbers and the police in China?
    A. The police can legally carry firearms.

  6. Joke would have been funnier if cops in china actually carried guns.

  7. Re: Peteryang

If the guy has a passport, then he is not poor. Poor people in China don’t have passports – what would they use them for?

  8. Dignity, shmignity. The guy felt like he was being dismissed, and decided to play a joke in response to the cop’s “even if you get down on your knees and beg” comment. Good for him. The cops should be handling something like this – it’s not exactly an insignificant event if someone is withholding your passport.

  9. @chris

not necessarily. touring abroad requires a passport, and a trip or two don’t need much wealth. in fact, my parents travels out of china once a year, people in their tour squad aint terribly rich.

  10. The lazy cops was to blame. The cops in this case is not serving the public interest or doing their job properly. They are self-serving. The cops decided that the guy kneeling down outside his police station wasn’t worth the trouble.

Therefore they’ve presumably decided to bugger off to the coffee shop or take an hour’s lunch having a smoke and laugh.

In first world countries, the police has to respond to any call albeit with limited police on the ground. It may take 1 hr or longer but at least someone attends to a public request.

The cops here demonstrate they can choose what types of calls they want to exist. If you got a big HONGPAO, maybe they react differently even though its their duty to respond in the first place.

  11. LoL, I love the comments echoing EXACTLY what I was thinking: HE WENT IN?!?

I’d be pretty wary of going in by myself after pulling a stunt like that. It’s pretty funny but it clearly wasn’t for the police. That said, the police could’ve saved themselves the embarrassment just by being professional and either help the man (if they’re supposed to) or kindly help him find those who can (if another organization is where the man should appeal to). Therefore, I’m inclined to agree that the police were just being lazy bastards in this case and the guy has massive testicular fortitude.

  12. Haaha… they would have had to set up a desk outside to process me after that shit. As a ‘bad laowai’ who has seen the inside of Chinese police stations, I’ve also seen the cops ‘Rodney King’ some suspects a bit.

However, in some cases western cops also seem uncaring in petty cases that ride the edge of the law. Where if you take care of it, then you are the bad guy and get charged.
I got locked out in February by my landlord (while in college) for no other reason than he didn’t like me. WHen I complained to the Police (who knew him and disliked him) at the front desk, the fat female cop asked me what I wanted her to do. She said “You’re a big boy, can’t you deal with it?” (can you imagine the scandal if some good ole boy said that to a female student?)
I bit my tongue because I was on the verge of saying, “If I deal with it ‘BigBoy’ style, you’ll need a dry suit and scuba gear.”

Canadian cops in general are pretty responsive and professional though. I can’t always say the same since I’ve arrived here.

  13. Its funny how people insult only Chinese police.

Take your ehads out of your asses. Police all over the world act like this. and this act this way because dumfucks like you expect them to act that way . learn psychology. ggthxbai

  14. This is what we call “Service for the people” (为人民服务)!!!

  15. Dear Timmy Huang,
I’d wager that you have very little experience with Police here or in other countries. Otherwise you’d know better than to assume that everyone thinks China is the only place with corruption or that Police in all other places are the same. They aren’t, because in some countries there are legitimate channels to air your complaints.

  16. It is about time China should establish an independent Police Disciplinary Board in each city, to oversee the misconduct/malpractice of the police force, wherein citizens can file a complaint to the Board against the police wrong doing. Until then,

the goon police will think twice before they dare to bully the ordinary citizens.

  17. “Canadian cops in general are pretty responsive and professional though. I can’t always say the same since I’ve arrived here.”

Hilarious, somehow I think the mother of that polish immigrant and native groups would disagree with you.

  18. @nomnom
Native groups police themselves in Canada – the Canadian police force has no right to arrest or police on land given to natives.

“that polish immigrant” — eh, uh, “in general” does not mean 100% of the time, of course there are exceptions and surely some corruption and/or abuse of power at some levels.

That being said, I’ve had good experiences with Chinese police for the most part – they certainly *are* lazy and investigations are not really taken seriously, but when it comes to being logical and reasonable in situations that need decisions to resolve given issue, I’ve had good experiences.
