I recently receive an email from Woody Fu from MTV Iggy:

Hi Fauna,

Here’s 2 pieces I shot with Christoph Niemann that you might be interested in for your site:

Quicky: The Pet Dragon, by Christoph Niemann

Quicky: Illustrator/Designer Christoph Niemann

He’s an illustrator/designer who drew a children’s book called The Pet Dragon. The book also functions as a 101 to learning the Chinese language. In the first video Christoph discusses the trials of making the book (he’s German and English is his 2nd language, and he has zero formal Chinese education), and in the second video I try to stump him by giving him increasingly difficult Chinese characters to make images out of.

Hope you enjoy!

  1. Do I hear “Product Placement”?

I am quite sure, I heard the term “Product Placement” around here.

  2. What is wrong with some product placement? This blog doesn’t produce itself and that sort of content is pertinent to the site. It’s not like Chinasmack is pimping viagra.

That book is great. I’m going to get it for my 2 little kids. They are in their second year of Chinese and would love this, especially my daughter the 小艺术家.

    • I am not receive any money for this. Woody Fu just email me and ask me to share it. I share it because it is about learning Chinese. No big deal. I would be happy to get money for sharing it. Maybe someone have Christoph Niemann’s email address?

      • You could put up an affiliate link to, say, Amazon.com that points to the book. Wouldn’t earn much but I don’t see a problem with that.

  3. Illustration like this is the only way to learn Chinese
