Who will clean the condoms in the corners of the campus?
It can be said, with improvements in the health education for youth, that a majority of university students’ awareness of sexual protection has increased.
They all know to use condoms, but from the photographs taken from three universities, some problems have also been discovered.
Some secluded corners of campus have become places for college couples to do special activities. Correspondingly, the increasing amount of abandoned condoms has seriously polluted the campus’ environment.
September 26 is World Contraception Day.
This is a day established to promote safe sex and prevent unwanted pregnancies.
As this day draws near, I post a set of photos, and hope that through these photos, we can do some reflection…
1. Location: Qingdao X University, in the dense small woods by the Computer building.

A little closer, what is that on the ground?
As seen from the photographs above, the brands university students use are very mixed.
The pollution of condom packaging above is nothing, take a look at the used condoms below, and seeing that these kinds of images may cause readers’ discomfort, I will not post too many.

Such a waste, take them back and wash them to use again. If it is broken beyond use, collect them all, and send them to a non-staple food plant to make them into chewing gum and sell them to us impoverished university students at a cheaper price.

I teach at a university, and regarding this problem, I will not discuss from an environment, etc. point of view, but what I want to say is: (1) Sex, to students is no longer a mysterious thing, but rather has become something adults should have the choice to do. As an educator, there is no need to make a big deal of it either. (2) We continue to restrict students’ sexual activities in dormitories, we could never have the kinds of facilities that some Western universities have, and hotels/motels are too expensive for students, so because of these things, these [secluded] corners have become the only option for students. (3) Because of this, under situations where the circumstances do not allow, we should consider acquiring for these places some trash cans or similar receptacles, to make it easier for these students to not thoughtlessly discard condoms. From a management perspective, this is something that can be done, and what more, should be done.
