      The great majority of mainland Chinese people don’t care about things like riots and social injustice. That’s ‘boring’.

      This is what foreign people never seem to understand about mainland China. All these foreign journalists trying to expose the injustices that happen here. There’s no point; they don’t care. Just leave them be.

      You’re only going to ‘hurt our Chinese feelings’ by investigating the side of society that they are trying to ignore.

    i don’t understand why chinasmack always addresses crap like that recently. it’s becoming more and more a nuisance to have chinasmack in my rss reader. nobody cares SHIT about these pictures. you guys should aim more for quality instead of quantity.

      Because it fits their objective. chinaSMACK’s self-stated goal is to just show stuff that is popular on China’s discussion forums. This apparently was reasonably popular on the Mop forum. It shows a sillier, immature, juvenile, creative, etc. side of Chinese netizens. You think of it as uninteresting “crap” but I think it’s an interesting insight into Chinese society. Guess what, China isn’t all about injustice, suffering, and riots. Chinese people aren’t all hyper-nationalistic fenqing or brainless automatons. They actually do really normal stuff like tickling themselves silly photoshopping silly shit onto silly pictures. I can haz cheezeburger anyone? Geez, some of you need to grow a sense of humor or lose the ridiculous entitlement complex.

          Ding! This is so true. I mean, while many of us can guess what’s going to be popular (corruption, sex, ultraviolence) on the internet, I still enjoy the fact that chinaSMACK doesn’t give a shit if you think silly photoshops aren’t interesting or if you think a woman digging for gold in her nose is immature.
