From Tianya (1 & 2):

November 24, Beijing Time, the Chinese Kung Fu [功夫, gong fu] vs. Professional Thai Kick-boxing Competition Organizing Committee issued a public announcement: The 2009 Chinese Kung Fu vs. Professional Thai Kick-boxing Competition will be held in 2009 December at Foshan in Guangdong. The competition will use Chinese wushu rules as a foundation, integrated with a portion of Thai Kick-boxing rules, allowing the two opposing combatants to use elbows and knee techniques to attack their opponent, with every match having five rounds and each round being three minutes.

Although this news should cause a lot of Kung Fu vs. Muay Thai discussion, many Chinese netizens are using this opportunity to express their criticism of the current and controversial Shaolin Temple leader, Abbot Shi Yongxin, aka “CEO Monk”.

Shaolin Temple Abbot Shi Yongxin

From the 一个心灵需要自由的人 Tianya blog:

Recently, Thai boxing champions have become crazy, wanting to challenge the Shaolin Temple, even spreading around that they want to beat the Abbot Shi Yongxin onto his knees. The five champions of Thai Kick-boxing are: “神目杀” [shen mu sha], “鬼见膝” [ gui jian xi], “魔术锥” [mo shu zhui], “拳灭风” [quan mie feng], “屠龙肘” [tu long zhou]. This time, all five champions will appear, with their original motivation being to “destroy Shaolin”. When a journalist asked whether “destroy Shaolin” was putting things arrogantly, the boxing champion 考克莱 [kao ke lai] waved his right fist disdainfully saying: “Tell Shi Yongxin to come to the ring and then see!”

There was even a Thai kick-boxing champion yelling: “Even my woman can defeat Chinese kung fu!” Why did he say this? Apparently, there was an amazingly beautiful Vietnamese girl who had previously fought against Chinese kung fu, and that this Miss Ruan just so happens to be the girlfriend of one of the Thai kick-boxing champions organized to come challenge [the Shaolin Temple], thus explaining this kind of talk.

Shi Yongxin is the Shaolin chairman/director, Director Shi for short, and normally occupied with important matters, like being busy having meetings, driving BMWs, making mobile phone calls (very niubi, using both China Mobile and China Unicom), using the computer…though I’m not sure whether or not he still eats meat? …anyway, [he] is skilled in various kinds of combat, and I hear his “internal force” is strong, a master who does not reveal his abilities, and we can now finally witness his power!

What is Thai kick-boxing? I’ve never even heard of it before! Whereas Shaolin kung fu has, through movies, television, songs, etc. been indoctrinated into our heads, as amazing and awe-inspiring? What is worth celebrating is Director Shi finally stepping up, expressing official acceptance of the Thailand boxing champions’ challenge, holding a competition in Foshan of Guangdong in December. We believe that mystical Director Shi, who does not usually fight, will defeat the five big Thai boxing champions, beating them onto their knees the moment he does!

In addition, the five big Thai boxing champions originally wanted to go to Shaolin Temple to make their challenge because Thailand is a Buddhist country, where everyone believes and respects Buddhism. “But, we heard from our Chinese friends that many temples and monasteries in China have all been developed by ruthless businessmen into tools to make money from the ordinary common people and believers/followers. [They] are even forced to make purchases in the temple and monasteries, here fees must be paid just for taking photos. Especially that so-called originators of kung-fu Shaolin Temple. It is said that they can even make commercial investments, this is unbelievable. We originally wanted to go tell them to stop using so-called kung fu to deceive Buddhist believers.” Now upon hearing that the China competition is confirmed to be in Foshan of Guandong, there is some regret…[that it is not at the Shaolin Temple itself]

Here, the five big Thai boxing champions even insinuate that our Director Shi is a ruthless businessman! This truly is “if this can be tolerated, what cannot be tolerated?” (I remember posting yesterday that I could not tolerate anymore, yet I still tolerated)! Director Shi, please, flaunt your muscles, show off your kung fu, beat these arrogant people onto their knees, in defense of China, and for the glory of the people!

It is said that Director Shi is a master who does not reveal his abilities, but there is nothing in heaven or earth he cannot do:

天涯网友(游客):

Chinese kung-fu is world-famous, and Shaolin Temple martial arts is number one in China. Jia you, China, jia you, Shi Yongxin.

天涯网友(游客):

Destroy the Shaolin, I’ll be happy! Scum of the Buddhist world.

易心易:

As a religion representing peace, Buddhism must also adapt to the development of society. Commercialization itself is no cause for criticism, but the method of commercialization is arguable.

nov1984:

I truly hope
Thai boxing will defeat our Shaolin boxing.
It is not that I am unkind,
but with people like Shi Yongxin,
a beating would be good.

guanxui:

Our wushu is for health/keeping fit. We can compete in life longevity.

红太阳帽:

If the Thai boxing champions beat Shi Yongxin to death, then that would be getting rid of Buddhist scum for Buddhism! And ridding the people of an evil!!

有故事D人:

How many monks these days still know kung fu? Even if they do, they are still only for show, only going through the motions, and they may not even necessarily win if they ran into a country woman who does farm work. A while ago while watching the sports channel there was a program called Red Fist Competition or something, and after watching less than a minute, I could no longer continue watching. If that similar to Mongolian wrestling yet not as interesting as Mongolian wrestling is the so-called Chinese kung fu, then I would rather not watch, because I really cannot see how their fighting is any different from when I was small and fighting with the little kids next door. So might as well not watch and at least then Chinese kung fu could maintain some mystery in my heart. Otherwise, a good thing would probably just become bad.

不要骂我哟:

Blog owner, you are truly truly hilarious.

QQ785987977:

I saw the news report before, and in summary, if you invite Shaolin Temple to go participate in the performance, Shi Yongxin says, “Our Shaolin kung fu is not used for performances, it is used to defeat opponents”, but when our countrymen request the Shaolin Temple to go fight in the arena, Shi Yongxin once again changes his words and says, “Our Shaolin wushu is used for strengthening the body and health, to raise individual’s characters…over and over like this. There is definitely too much business/commercialism, making people suspicious.

水平天远1979:

This requires seeing where the fight will take place and fighting who. I have always been convinced that, on a bed, Director Shi as one person against several is not a problem.

我家可乐:

Defeat the Thai transvestites, stand up for the Chinese people; [though if] Director Shi were to fall, a fake Buddhist monk would be removed. Either way, a good thing will happen!

  1. a. American MMA – made up of wild punches and take downs. Chinese Shuai Jiao will kick its ass to Timbutu.

    b. Jiujitsu – JJJ originally came from Chinese Shuai Jiao (mother of JJJ). From JJJ it went to BJJ. Need I say more.

    c. Muay Thai – Just got wiped out by Chinese San Da Kung Fu 4 to 1. One thai boxer got knocked out.
Emphasize on simple elbow, knee and kicking attacks that are part of the most basic Kung Fu movements.

    d. Chinese Wushu – pretty and flowery parts of Kung
Fu that are intriguing to look at and suitable for public performance. Can be used for fighting if needed.

    e. Greco Roman Wrestling or (Gekco wrestling) –
Shuai Jiao Kung Fu will kick it’s ass to Bunfuk Egypt. Useless for actual fighting.

    f. Western Boxing – Simple punches and blocks. Can’t defend kicking or long range fighting. Can’t come close to Kung Fu fighters, hence can’t use their combinations. Western Boxing has power like a grain of sand as compared to Tai Chi fajin. The power of which is like an asteroid hitting earth.

    g. Tae Kwon Do – Not much, mostly fancy high kicks with karate rigid hand blocks. Wing Chun Kung Fu will clean them up in a heart beat.

    h. Chinese Kung Fu is a well rounded martial art that provides all of the techniques required in a fight for self defense plus many health benefits. With the exception of d. above, none of the other martial arts provides health benefits. Their intention is to hurt, to maim or to kill like an animal. It has no redeeming value whatsoever. Their ultimate goal is violence, which can be easily defeated by “gunate”. Because of the above reasons, I rank Kung Fu as the number 1 martial art in the world.

I just want to set the record straight by providing the facts of each martial art.

Confucious said, “Person knows refrain from speaking. Person doesn’t know farts with his mouth and speaks thru his ass” like some of the (Wai Kwo gwai zue) do.

  2. MMA has been used time and time again in actual fighting in every part of the world. That is why it has become the style of choice for a lot of people. I have never seen Chinese martial artists have any real success outside of light contact tournament matches against other Chinese martial artists and questionable matches in China. Your just doing all their fighting on paper then expecting it to mean something. It doesn’t.

Bruce Lee has more credibility then any Chinese Martial Artist ever and even he called classic Gung Fu a classical mess. He also said that no amount of land swimming can prepare you for the real thing.

Sun Tzu said “Avoid the enemy when he is strong.” Yeah that’s Chinese Gung fu in a nutshell.

    • 1) You missed the post in the thread that proved that the Thais never said anything, and that the promoter is in league with the Shaolin Monastery (WHICH IS A BUSINESS).
They had just IPO’d and held this tournament to drive their stock up. Truth is stranger than fiction sometimes.

      2) Dear ChinUsa, Shuijiao is one of the more useful styles in Chinese Kung Fu. However Brazilian Jiujitsu didn’t come from Shuijiao anymore than Porsche 911 came from Model T. One is clearly about 3 steps beyond the other in terms of evolution.

      3) Just because you as an ethnically Chinese person would like to claim rights over ancestry of all martial arts, doesn’t make it so… in fact it’s kind of sad. Karate is already a better KungFu…Bruce Lee already told you that Classic Kung Fu was largely useless, but he would have been boo’d off of the bbs by the nationalistic youth.
Traditional Martial Artists that disparage MMA are just concerned that fighting may finally be the domain of warriors and real athletes, not just History buffs and nerds in pajamas.

      • you are fucking stupid. Don’t put words in Bruce Lee’s mouth. Bruce Lee had huge respects for traditional kung fu. Just not their ideologies of secretive practice.
“Karate is already a better KungFu” ummmmmmmmmmm wrong. They’ve been doing fights similar to this event but with Karate and Kung Fu fighters. But they weren’t all about money making like this one was. It was actually a legit fighting event worth watching. Kung Fu won. 5-0.
Also, even if what you say WERE true, just because it is better doesn’t mean it can’t be evolved from a ‘weaker’ art. Current Humans and Apes are way more evolved and adapted to our environment then primates are. Doesn’t mean we don’t evolve from them.
“Traditional Martial Artists that disparage MMA are just concerned that fighting may finally be the domain of warriors and real athletes, not just History buffs and nerds in pajamas.” MMA IS A RING SPORT. RING SPORT. SPORT.
“ust because you as an ethnically Chinese person would like to claim rights over ancestry of all martial arts, doesn’t make it so…” It’s not just claims, there is historical evidence. Ask any historian regarding Asian history. – oh, just becuase your stupid, that doesn’t mean asian historian, it just means a historian who’s field of study is Asian History.
“Brazilian Jiujitsu didn’t come from Shuijiao anymore than Porsche 911 came from Model T. One is clearly about 3 steps beyond the other in terms of evolution.”
Shuijiao > JJJ > Judo > BJJ. Can you do a simple trace the steps? or are you to fucking stupid to?

  3. ““Brazilian Jiujitsu didn’t come from Shuijiao anymore than Porsche 911 came from Model T. One is clearly about 3 steps beyond the other in terms of evolution.”
Shuijiao > JJJ > Judo > BJJ. Can you do a simple trace the steps? or are you to fucking stupid to?”

Is the arrow a ‘greater than’ symbol? Or represent some sort of chronological order in which things evolved?
No matter, either way you are wrong.

You miss the meaning of the analogy, which in itself is a trap. There are many steps of evolution between the Model T and the Modern car. And the modern car is better than the Model T in EVERY way.

By attempting to block EVERY ‘perceived’ attack in this argument you have in fact lost sight of the true nature of the attack (Similar to Wing Chun vs. Muay Thai hahaha) and hence positioned yourself poorly in the fight itself.

Nobody minds that Shuijiao is the australopthicus to the BJJ’s homo sapien… but let their be no doubt as to which is more evolved and more effective.

  4. Steven T, do you by any chance ‘practice’ any of this wonderful Shuijiao yourself?

  5. Cung Le, half Chinese and half Vietnamese, uses san shou (San Da) Kung Fu together with Shuai Jiao ground fighting is an unbeatable MMA Champion fighter. He broke Frank Shamrock’s arm with one spinning back kick, Fu mie gerk, in Chinese meaning tiger tail kick. His power, moves and throws are phenomenal, all attributed to the Chinese Martial Arts. Because the businessmen do not sponsor those Chinese fighters, you don’t see too many of them in MMA. But this will change, there already are many San Shou, San Da schools around in China and in the States. Soon these people will be in the MMA Competition and you will see major ass kicking just like Cung Le. Search online to see Cung Le in action if you dare. Shuai Jiao compared with BJJ is like a professional wrestler wrestles with a 3 year old child. BJJ is only a Child’s play. A good Shuai Jiao 120 lb female could beat any BJJ wrestlers with no problem whatsoever.

    • He got knocked the hell out last weekend by Scott Smith (who is not in the top 20 worldwide in his division).

If I dare? Tell you what… ‘IF YOU DARE’ bring the toughest Kung-Fu guy you know by here for a sparring session. We’ll fix him up good with someone roughly his size. And I’m in Shanghai, we have no UFC level fighters here, just a few decent guys who do have.

And if you know any Shuaijiao females, bring them too, because we’ll give them some submission training and some Muay Thai and turn them into the Chinese version of Megumi Fuji.

  6. The Texas Kung Fu founder was probably the deceased David carradine. LMAO

  7. ChinUsa, you obviously aren’t up on current events concerning fighting…but check Youku (we don’t get youtube freely in PRC, but of course you don’t know that)… Anderson Silva, Lyoto Machida, Georges St. Pierre, BJ Penn, Fedor, Aoki…
These people are using 21st century Kung Fu… which is a mixtures of styles, tailored to the individual and his/her abilities, limitations and inclinations.

THE MONEY is in MMA. There is NO money in SANDA, SHUAI JIAO etc… and you are trying to tell me that if a Chinese fighter could do it, they wouldn’t? Gimme a break.

  8. To Fcuk Da Lu Ren, I am very curious where you were born and brought up. You sound very insane and desperate, like having been sexually molested by some Chinese people during childhood.
Can you share with us your life experience?

  9. Jones, you are right that shuai Jiao VS BJJ is like child molestation. BJJ is too weak to be resistant so Shuai Jiao fighters can do anything they want on top of them including molestation or shove a red hot burning steel rod up their ass. LOL…One moron made a stupid remark that Kung Fu is only for small asian people. What imbecilic inbreeder would make such a remark??? Kung Fu is an art and a skill. If it works for a small man, more so it will work for a bigger or heavier man. It is just like saying Engineering only works for an engineer over 200 lbs, it won’t work for those under 200 lbs. That is bullshit. That is why I said those “wai Kwo gwai zue” know nothing, only talk thru their ass.
Veerleft, Cung le dominated the whole fight kicking, and punching Scott Smith like a punching bag, waiting for the kill. But like any boxing match, Scott Smith, the underdog, got lucky, executed a blind punch when Cung Le was down and knocked him from behind to the face and made him bleed. That was the reason why the fight was awarded to Scott Smith. This fight was the first fight after Cung le had laid off for 2 years. Scott Smith won’t be so lucky the next time he fight Cung le I will tell you that despite the fact that he has a steel chin and ab.
Like I mentioned before, there are many San Shou (San Da) school open up in China and in the States. They don’t have business sponsorship right now, but things will change. When they do come out to compete in the MMA match in the near future, you will see guys trained in San Shou, San Da and Shuai Jiao pound the shit out of the rest of the competitors into submission everytime, I guarantee you because the Chinese martial art is much more superior than the rest.
To spar with a few weaklings in your group, a smart Kung Fu beginner will do the job whooping your ass. There is no need for any good kung Fu guys. It is more convenient for you to find your self a sparring partner in the Shaighai park and get your ass kicked there. Better yet, video tape it and upload it on youtube for all to see and laugh, idiot.
Fcuk Da Lu Ren is another imbecile whose mother and father are brother and sister and was molested and gangbanged by the Chinese at the tender age of teens. He was holding all these anger inside till now to manifest it online.

  10. 1. Cung Le WAS dominating…I never said he wasn’t. You said he was unbeatable and undefeated. I proved you wrong. I like Cung Le, but facts are facts. And fact is that he is not the best guy and not in the best org. So…do the math. Being that Anderson Silva is in the same weight class=NO CHANCE.

    2. “Kung Fu is an art and a skill. If it works for a small man, more so it will work for a bigger or heavier man.” – Agreed. I cannot speak for others on this board but do not lump me in with them.

    3. Nevermind any weakling, you and anyone that you know, are invited most cordially to spar with me. This is less about proving a point and more about me needing more variety in sparring partners (especially of Chinese style, since many or my opponents are from SJ and SD. Seriously…I doubt you will find many takers though.

    4. The state sponsors every kind of athlete that it believes can win and bring glory to the Mother. The best San Da and Shuaijiao fighters in China are training for MMA… and their weakness is the submission game. Ask Tie Quan and Ao Hai Lin what their mainstay in matches is these days…they will tell you BJJ.
As for talking out of his ass, seems that YOU don’t know what you’re talking about, and likely aren’t even in CHINA at all.

*if you really feel this hostile towards me because I have a different theory towards the implementation of martial arts, then please bring ANYONE that you know between the ages of 18-80 years of age, and 90-100kg that you consider a ‘Traditional Kung-Fu’ expert. Would be better if this person was you, but I suspect you are more the ‘record and put it on Youtube’ type than the take a shot at it yourself type.
Anyway, I promise that I’ll be a gentleman and not gloat.

  11. BTW…How did Cung get to the ground? Hint…he didn’t trip and fall.
I know what fighting is, you seem to think it is a videogame and we are arguing over which controller configuration is best.

  12. Ohhh…I almost forgot. Did anyone here watch WuLinFung (CHinese K-1) last saturday night??

  13. Cung le was undefeated up to one point. That is why he was the middle weight Champion. I couldn’t guarantee anything in the future. Any boxing champion could lose at one point in their live. It is not usual. They are not god, but they are still the champion.
“Kung Fu is an art and a skill…..” was directed to Moron Da Gong ji before it was addressed to you, so if it does concern you, skip it. My previous posting was addressed to several persons, not only you.
you think I am afraid of some flimsy, lame, striptease Muay Thai dance movements or some BJJ submission ground fighting effective only when you are riding on your girl friend?? Think again. Come to California southern Tong Long school, I will have my black belts play with you and show you the real Kung Fu. See if you got a steel neck. Don’t expect to see a 120 lb Chinaman, We are way over that.
When I mentioned about the state. I didn’t mean the China state. I meant the United States, Idiot.
Cung Le got to the ground when doding a punch from Scott Smith, lost balance and fell.

  14. should have said “it is not unusual”…

  15. Would any of you guys like to come to CHINA to show them how it’s done?
What would it take? A plane ticket and a bit of cash? If you are not totally adverse to the concept of MMA then it might be a go this summer. We always need to diversify the card.

  16. Hey, Dagonji,
Ngo diu nie ah ma gek CHOU, LAN hai. Sounds good and it rhymes, so one more time. Ngo diu nie lou mu gek CHOU LAN hai. Don’t forget the CHOU LAN. That sounds so much better. …. hahahahaha….Why should one write little essays on China political, economical, financial subjects??? The subject right now is martial art. China is based on a system totally different from the West or Canada. Yes, they don’t have much material things, or money, but they do live a very happy, contended simple lives. The westerners or the Canadians on the other hand have a higher suicide rate than China in spite of the fact that they have more money, material things. Money can’t buy love. Money can buy happiness only to a certain extend. To compare China with Canada or any other countries is like comparing apples with oranges. THERE IS NO COMPARISON. You got so much negative thinking about China or previously Nigeria. Why not just pack up and leave the country while you still can to save your sanity, no one is holding you back. DOLT, BLOCKHEAD, HALF-WIT, MORON, FOOL, idiot……feel free to choose one…hahahahahaha

  17. I can not agree with Da Gong Ji more. There is simply no future of our country.
I saw in this website people are surprised that Chinese are racist, I dont deny it, but I have to explain that this is because they never see a person with color in their life before so they dont know how to accept things that are different and dont know how to open their mind.
All the misery and ignorance of Chinese people coming from the country’s dictatorship. If people are denied access to outside world, how people can learn the fundamental concept of democracy and human right?
We have made great effort to be in line with the west, but this will not happen until all Chinese people understand what their rights are and what democracy means.
Chinese are materialist because they have been taught to not be involved with politics and mind their own business, so money becomes the only stadard of their happiness. This is just so sad. I have also been taught I am just a normal person and better just live my own normal life without trying to change anything in vein.

  18. Dagonmon,
Look it here, asshole, you as a “lao wai”, (ngo diu nie gor mui or gar jet gek dai fee hai.)came to China from another 3rd world country, Canada, critizes everything Chinese, the people, their ideology, political views, financial and economical condition, social and enviromental factors etc..etc…and you turn around suddenly and said you love China and its people. You have to be the biggest hypocrite I ever seen. What is your real intention of staying in China? To stir up trouble for the Chinese people? to rule China? or to live in China as a their so called counter-revolutionist and a spy? huh? My ass you go to China to teach their doctors the advanced surgical techniques. Their surgical techniques or Medicine is already far more advanced than any third world countries inluding Canada. Admit it, another reason why you came to China was to get a brain surgery, to tighten some screws and connect some loose wires in your head in the hope that it would cure your insanity.
By the way, in case you don’t know, Dagonmon in Chinese, means BIG ASS HOLE.
Let’s keep Martial Art forum Martial Art, not some warped prejudiced political views. Keep them to yourself. We don’t need all that prapaganda here. We don’t want to hear it, Bak gwai (white devil) or white trash in your country. You will be happier living on E Hasting street in Vancouver as a homeless person than in China once you get thrown out of China.

  19. Daphie,
I don’t know if you are male or female, but you do sound like someone who would spread his/her thighs every night to make a few yuens to satisfy your materialistic needs. Just because you and your family are materialistic, don’t put words in the billions of Chinese’s mouth that they are too. Far from it, billions of them are happy where they are living simple lives with simple needs. Happiness is a state of mind, is not measured by how many dollars you have in your bank account. What do you mean they have never seen a color person? They are color (yellow race) themselves. You sound like a fucking ignorant ass kissing individual and don’t preach about human rights, democracy, dictatorship here. Again this is a Martial Arts forum not some fucking politic forum. You want to kiss “lao wai”‘s ass and suck their dicks every night. That is your prerogative. It is people like you who makes China weak. The Chinese got a name for you “My gwok Zai”, TRAITOR.

  20. To Malachi, I and my family are just normal people, and we are not materialist. But I do think overall it creates a bad image of us Chinese people when we attack whoever has a different opinion, and his/her family. My family can not decide how I think.
I dont blame you for your way of thinking. We are all brought up by this system, and we can not see the problem of the system if we dont stand out of it. One problem is all these years of progess, has been made by a expansive price. We lost our tradition and culture, it has all been replaced by the determination to get richer. When I was in Shaolin this year, I feel really bad to see it has filled up by monks that do not look real, and it seems they just want to make money here in this Buddism temple.
There is just too much to say. I hope things can change.

  21. Daphie,
The problem with you is you assume everything. First you assume the Chinese people are taught not to get involved in politics, just mind their own business and money becomes their only standard of happiness. Then you said “we lost our culture and tradition, it has all been replaced by the determination to get richer”. Are you out of your mind? How did all the Chinese politicians come about if they were taught not to get involved in politics? As I said before, happiness is a state of mind, it is not measured by how large your bank account is. The Chinese culture and tradition are all alive and well. They have not lost anything of importance. The determination to get richer has no relationship to the lost of culture and tradition. Tell me who IN THE WORLD does not want to get richer? That goes to America and the European countries. Do you want to get poorer so your can preserve the Chinese culture and tradition???? And then you assume I am brought up by your system because of my way of thinking. There is no fucking way. I don’t live or am brought up in your country, my thinking is strictly independent like an independent auditor auditing books. Although I must admit I am an excellent linquist and a genius.
You seem deranged and illogical in your thinking, you need psychiatric help as soon as possible, so does your friend Dagonmun, BIG ASSHOLE in Cantonese.
Look, when you ASSUME, you make an ASS of U and ME. I don’t mind you make an ASS of yourself, just do not assume anything for me and make me an ass as well.

  22. First of all to do businesss is far better then fighting.
Second, everything should be done under basic moral standards, such as if you gain you should share.
Third, its human nature to be compete, but in order to satisfy the humans desire why we need to act like animals.
Let them compete and survive a japanese action game show or something- that’s interesting. By the way both fighting styles deserve respect.

  23. Thai boxing would dominate any of the modern day wushu fake monks at Shaolin. Case closed.

  24. all those Muay Thai supporters, wanting to destroy Shaolin Kung Fu, should really just shut the fuck up.

before the match you guys say that Muay Thai will kick their asses with EASE.

now that the match has given the clear winners, you Muay Thai suckers says that BRIBE is involved.

    Act of PURE LOSERS!

If you say that BRIBE is involve, PROVE IT!

  25. How many monks these days still know kung fu? Even if they do, they are still only for show, only going through the motions, and they may not even necessarily win if they ran into a country woman who does farm work.

  26. Real Wu Shu or Kung Fu, which are more or less describing the same thing, all that was lost after the Cultural Revolution, what we have today is the remnants of all that remained. I’d say give China another 25 years to grow other things instead of its economy. Westerners only like to think in the short term. Hell the US has been around for 200 years? No one likes to talk about how backwards Europe was pre-industrial revolution. China is in its infancy of another rising dynasty, history usually repeats itself.

Sorry there was no cohesion there but just my immediate thoughts put on paper.

  27. I wonder if the children have an option to train or is it automatic for their lifestyles.

  28. It’s our own identity. We should respect each other’s ways of expressing one self.

  29. Ahh…. the famous thai boxin vs kungfu quarrel. Seriously, most people wouldnt realised that thai boxing was also influenced by chinese and indian martial arts.

I would say that thai-boxin is a very powerful martial arts, specifically made for fighting, and would win against “kungfu” of course. Most MMA fighters would learn thai-boxing and BJJ, cause it gives them a quick and powerful long and short distance offence and defence.

But notice I mention “kungfu” in quotes. The original essence and philosophy in real kungfu is very deep and lethal, and it takes maybe the whole lifetime to master it. But when u do, it’s probably the most lethal and dangerous martial arts with second to none. Too bad, though most likely u can never discover these things in China anymore. The Cultural Revolution has unfortunately deprived China most of kungfu original essence and philosophy. Plus, many real sifu prefers to pass the arts like in ancient time, that is in a closed door situation, because they know the lethality and danger that the arts can do, hence choosing the right disciple is very important. That is why you wont see them anymore. And last thing, CMA’s philosophy do not lies in fighting totally but something deeper, that is life itself.

I do believe that thai boxin real philosophy also lies outside fighting, but I guess most modern thai-boxers wouldnt realise about this and forgot bout it in this modern world. So people, please respect these martial arts and their history.

  30. Kung fu ‘used’ to be very powerful. Today, kung fu is mostly a franchise (money spinning machine) on the market.

karate, judo, Tae kwon do, Hap Ki do, and the lists goes on. They practice for health and beauty of the arts. Sparring occasionally, with sportsmanship in mind or rules that handicapped the arts of fighting. Worst of all most masters doesn’t really teach ‘all’ of it. I heard my great, great grand father could split a rock with his bare hand (they call it chi). Now, his children great, great grand children can tear an A4 paper. That’s the best they can do.

Today, great chinese martial art masters can only display one or two feats. That takes them about half of their life time to learn and guess.

For Muay Thai, they train like there is a tournament almost everyday. and their life depends on it. I can see Muay Thai is speed, brute force and technique.

Shaolin kung fu are divided into many types. A monk can only learn a very few of them in his lifetime. Winning depends on which type of master will attend this fight. I bet he won’t do any shaolin somersaulting though. lol.
    Very curious…..

  31. You people watch to much late night TV! The king of the ring is Muay thai! And for a good reason!

  32. RUEGO A DIOS MISERICORDIA POR EL DOLOR QUE BA SENTIR EL TAILANDES ESPERO NO LE QUIEBREN UN HUESO O ALGO , O EN ALGUNA CAIDA NO LO DEJE EMIPLEGICO

  33. dude, thia boxing will murder all those chines pussy’s! dont you think it means something when every person in MMA learns thia boxing and not kung fu? Kung fu is so deluted they’rs like a million styles of kung fu and only one muiy thia boxing.if you come in with your stance rike dragan and frist like wrock your gonna gonna catch a knee or an elbow!

  34. My kung fu will beat any thai boxer. no gloves, no rounds. TIGER STYLE

  35. The Thai boxer’s will destroy the monk’s, they are acrobat’s
nothing more, i spent some time with the monk’s in Australia,
had a little spar, threw a hook at this monk named Bruce he
turned his head away…. doubt he’s ever had a fight in his life
and he’s the star of a national geographic program….?
Ask any true Kung Fu practitioner in China and they will tell
you Bruce Lee was an actor didn’t even make the national team
The Shaolin truly are a joke

  36. The writer of this article is being very naive. The Shaolin have been practising kungfu for 1500 years, yet always had a strict ‘policy’ not to use violence unless really neccesary. Besides that, it’s not at all a matter of ‘kungfu vs. muay thai’, it’s a matter vs fighter vs. fighter. People are always fuzzing about which martial art is better, but in the end it’s the fighter that determines the outcome. The Shaolin monks train kungfu but I doubt that in this commercial temple in Henan, the monks spar a lot. So whether kungfu is more effective than thaiboxing or not, the thaiboxers could still be better fighters.
P.s. I can confirm from own experience that kungfu is nothing like in the movies, and it does really work.

As for the ‘Buddhist spirit’, I agree the way this specific temple is too commercial and not much living up to the Shaolin ways anymore. This is no reason, however, to be wanting to ‘kick the abbot down to his knees’, this shows only that the thaiboxers are extremely arrogant.

One last thing, the names of the thaiboxers you mention are Chinese names. But you also say they’re from Thailand. So what’s the deal with that?

  37. As a shaolin fukien dao chan chi artist, and teacher, with due respect to sport verses a fight, they may box but we will show them what boxing isn’t and that isn’t by any means they can touch.. unless your just trying to have a boxing match, and yes “wushu” is just demonstrational but i prefer stuff that works… so boxing you would have the advantage, or would you.. but can if one was to use what they was taught be able to do more then just boxing or kicking as you know it… (i would love this challenge, but if one was to win, we would still have to fight more just to prove it wasn’t your guys, and if you will china will be like trying to save their image as well, so who is the winner but entertainment.. (but it would be fun).. for the sake of life… if life is about who is the better fighter is there a fighter, it all changes as the next round happens…

  38. I Love you kung fu

  39. Sorry brother, I my reptilian barbaric brain forgot that I am only a heinous simpleton void of culture. I bow to the greatness of the white lotus sects of the HAN greatness

  40. There’s a story I heard in documentary about Bruce Lee. Once, some extra said to him that he is not real fighter, just an actor. Bruce called him to have a match. Guy was knocked by 3rd punch.

It is story I heard on TV, so I cannot confirm that.

  41. “bruce lees students, bring em on. my record is perfect so far, not afraid of some pansy gongfu artists”

Make sure you bring your keyboard with you too.

  42. Da gong ji,

You have told us ALL that little story of yours before, no one except for you and mabey FDKR care. As for Bruce Lee.

I don’t think he is the best that ever was, and certainly not the best that there’ll ever be. However, he was a real martial artist who learnt many different styles as everything has something different to add. He created JKD which is an effective martial art, and if he were still alive, he could probably beat you to a bloody pulp.

As for him ‘Bumming out’ as an actor in the states. Lets not forget the time and context of which we’re speaking. Bruce Lee didn’t have ‘a china man’s chance’. The general public of the USA was that if the actor wasn’t a white christian/catholic they couldn’t be the leading roles and on top of that they had to be an insulting stereotype of their background/culture. Which is why he went to HK where he could get leading roles. I’m not saying he was a terrific actor, But I would’ve preffered him over David Carradien in the ‘Kung Fu’ series which he had helped develop and had been passed over at the last minute because he was chinese.

  43. No, I say that I feel sorry that FDLR gave american people bad reputation, because not all are bad. I have nothing against america. Do you understand now what I mean? Did I use the wrong gramma or something???

For example, if I go out and act like a shit every day here in Sweden, of course it will give the chinese people bad reputation. What part don´t you understand?¨
Sometime I can´t undestand why so many americans are so hostile. I was actually helping the american people to say not everyone is like FDLR.

Mr president Obama just won the nobel peace prize, he would never want to have a war. Not every american is like FDLR.

  44. Welcome to Chinese logic 101 bro.

“We the chinese are angry because you Americans refuse to give us nuclear and advanced technology!!! We support your whole economy by giving you cheap shoes! How can you do this to the Chinese people”

  45. dont be upset your wife left you, it’s not the chinese people’s fault that she prefers them over you!

  46. Your brains are crap and you think with your ass when you can even entertain the thought of winning a war when you are losing two and going bankrupt. But I’m not surprised! I have met plenty of shitheads like you through my years in the Midwest USA. Bankrupt nations have the less to worry about waging wars. Heard od Mutual Assured Destruction or are you too stupid to understand your own language, shithead! I pity you for the arrogance you display in broadcasting the limit of your subhuman intelligence

  47. SO WHO WON TELL ME!!

  48. The easiest part of your argument to get right, regurgitating the equation for force, would get you kicked out of first semester physics. You have undermined your own credibility by attempting to form a chain of reasoning around a subject which your own words prove you don’t understand.

Huo Yuanjia didn’t “rearrange physics with magic”, he rearranged the faces of all competitors regardless of their martial arts origins, using a system which you say is only effective in the case of one twig vs. another.

When theory collides with reality, reality wins every time. Which leaves you the option of building a new theory, or clinging to your ignorance.

  49. kung fu(flips, kicks, punch, uppercuts, etc) looks a lot cooler than boxing(punching, kicking….i guess that’s it)

  50. http://www.chinasmack.com/videos/guangzhou-kung-fu-master-fights-young-man-on-bus/ i guess the skinner man beat the bigger guy in this match

  51. Jones,
Tiu le ah ma ke hai, get it?
    Another arrogant white trash,I believe.
You can continue to be arrogant, continue to pretend you are righteous, continue to promote “humanity” to confuse some nations, continue to legalized gay “marriage” in your country, continue to call your grandPa gay..so on and so for,
but you can’t deny the fact that the result of the match was 4 to 1, CHINESE KONG FU WON. Get it? And there are fewer and fewer people buying your crap each day on the planet EARTH. Do you know that?
And one more thing, you and your son and your poor grandsons will have to work your sorry ass off to pay off your national debt! Amrican number one, my ass!
    American dream, my ass again.
Change now, admit that White Trash can’t be number forever!
I apology if I am harsh, but I mean you good.
    Are we still friends? :-(

    Your sad GrandPa.

  52. i think there are such things as “pressure points”, using opponent’s force against them, oh and being heavy doesn’t make one strong….and for a more satirical comment, bony people can do some damage jabbing people…like when my bony cousin jabbed me his with his bony elbow

  53. what NIT WIT would run full speed to tackle someone? that someone could move out of the way in a split second sending the FAT guy tripping, rolling around, and ending up hurting himself. besides, one kick in the groin is all you need, and a phoenix-eye-fist in the neck will easily take the guy down
