Hefei Hair Salon Welcomes Old Beggar, Gives Free Haircut

From NetEase:

Beautiful hair salon lady owner warmly admits old beggar

Into a hairdressing salon near Yaogong temple in Hefei, a so-called “sweaty smelly beggar” entered, looking for a haircut. The boss not only didn’t refuse him, but she kind-heartedly looked after him. The old beggar asked to have his head shaved, his beard cut, and even asked for his head to be washed; the boss did everything according to his wishes. After shaving his head the boss didn’t receive a penny, and even gave the beggar about fifty RMB. This made me, a witness to the scene, deeply moved. “Wúshāngbùjiān” [the traditional idiom that condemns all merchants as unscrupulous] surely couldn’t be used to describe the boss of this salon!

A photo of the boss.

The old beggar getting his hair cut.

The beggar asks the hairdresser to cut his hair in a certain way.

As it turns out, he wants it all shaved off.

After having his haircut, the beggar prepares to leave, the boss not only hasn’t received money, but has given some to him.

After leaving, the beggar absent-mindedly feels his head, it seems like he’s considerably more relaxed.

The beggar starts a new day begging to feed himself.

In these materialistic times, someone who can do this deserves praise!

I wish this great person a life of peacefulness! I love you!

扯–淡:

She’s the most beautiful boss.

三旭:

I strongly urge the boss to charge for her services, if she doesn’t how will we stimulate the growth of China’s GDP?

屁民:

The really great people are all to be found amongst ordinary people.

zl6295:

This society needs a little love.

1000-year:

Beggars are still people, as long as they’re not begging on someone else’s behalf, or begging to fund illicit activities, they deserve society’s respect. The government should help and assist those that need it. Our economy is developing, so we shouldn’t forget those poorer compatriots.

Old beggars and kind-hearted hair salon owners. chinaSMACK personals. Happy new year!

  1. Great marketing!

    • I agree that it’s likely marketing. The only thing missing is I don’t see an address or location for the shop. That being said:

The first comment says it all.. “SUPPORT THE OWNERS OF THE SHOP!”

Not to mention the fact it just so happens, when such a ‘kind-hearted event’ is happening, someone is there to snap some “please pose” photos and follow the bum around to make a video? Give me a break.

One last comment: THAT girl runs a barbershop? Someone should be giving her a haircut, she looks like an angry lion – HORRIBLE hair style!

  2. Perhaps she should have given him a KB too… Perverted Girls, Experiences by Chinese Men Part 7?

  3. This is just an obvious publicity stunt but I’m not surprised the Chinese were gullible enough to fall for it. If they believe the crap on CCTV, they’ll believe anything.

    • hard hitting facts, it’s like you are these boards bill o’reilly or sean hannity! FTW PUSAN PLAYA AND FOX NEWS!

Bring down kai and his holier than thou blue blood ways! love live pusan playa!

  4. Buzz cut in winter? that’s gonna be cold… now they need to buy hats.

  5. That is good marketing, actually..

  6. thumb up for great heart people.

  7. very moving – best luck to miss hairdresser and to mister beggar!
But then there is this 5-thousand-y old civilization where most people don’t trust charities – they think charity managers are just as corrupt as their rulers (or “servants”).

  8. and the next day, hundreds of beggars lined up outside her door looking for free haircuts and 50 quai.

  9. HAHAHAHAHA I AM BAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK!!!!!!
would SHE have done the same thing without the MEDIA and the CAMERAS there?

look at her picture and u ll see a bitchy face posing as good woman.
WANT to impress me? do it sincerely

  10. the society needs more such a good person.support you,the most beautiful hairdresser in china.zhongguo zuimei lifashi!!!!

  11. That’s a good one, hopefully more people can do things like that to make our country a better place. Thanks for sharing!

  12. Does anyone know the literal translation of “Wúshāngbùjiān”? I’d love to know; Chinese idioms are the best!

  13. firstly, i hate beggars. lazy & good for nothing. if they can’t try to make something more out of themselves then don’t go on living. as you can see his already spent that 50 on cigarettes. next thing you know, he’ll be roaming the streets with the con monks or living it up with ceo monk. that i can leave with..ambitious.
as for the salon owner, she knows how much the wig industry is worth. for a slice of that billion dollar pie, you obviously have to collect hairs. nothing kind hearted about her at all. its just business as they say.

  14. Who the hell would want his tattered beard. Certainly not Trump or buffet or my hair losing boyfriend Jim Morrison.

  15. I read through like 10 pages out of over 250 pages of comments and found a grand total of 2 negative posts. If netease were say, Digg or some other social news media site in the US most of the posts would be the cynical types you find on this site as well.

The last pic is a major fail. The begger already spent that 50 RMB on a pack of cigs. Plus he is now alot colder cuz he shaved his head. LOL.

  16. Isnt Chinese society harmonious…

    *barfs*

Enjoy your feelgood story netizens..Now get back to work ant people!

  17. This story totally ruins my picture of the selfish, violent and uncivilized Chinese people. Guess the story must be fake

  18. after you died, sure you know by now you will appreciate of life. Not much i want to say, cos my negativity too mean.

  19. I lol at all the laowais here bitching and hating about a feel-good-post about people actually helping each other in the evil empire of grim dark China. Did your image of the evil and uncaring Chinese just got damaged?

Even if this is fake and posed and shit, in the end that guy got a haircut for free. Not all that bad I assume…

    Haters gonna hate.

    dismissed.

    • What haircut? He just got his head shaved. You can pay any Ayi to do that to your head for less than 10 kuai. She will gladly shave your head.

Bet you it wasn’t done out of good heart. But they just did it to get his smelly arse out of the shop so their clients could finally breathe again!

Chinese people never do good hearted things without some sort of benefit in return. Even if there’s no profit to it, there just has to be something in return.

    • Laowais are always butthurt when they feel that others are better natured than they are.

  20. Oh wow, so if there’s a bad report about China, all these people are ready to bash, and if there’s a good report… they’re still ready to bash. So if it’s good, then it’s always a lie. If it’s bad, then it’s definately true. Perfect logic. Anyways, props to the hair salon owner and the beggar. Even if it’s a publicity stunt, at least the owner gave beggar a free haircut + money. And besides, I think she’s pretty sweet. Haha, it was funny when she said to the camera dude, “Hey, you’re interviewing him like a reporter. Are you a reporter?” and then to the beggar: “If he’s a reporter, you should charge him!!”
People who haven’t been to China, stop complaining and whining about the government. I spoke with some guy in China, and the poor guy was so confused as to why the U.S. hated them so much. I said it that the U.S. hated the CCP, and he shouted loudly in English (mainly at the Americans next to him) that without the government, China would not be where it is now. “Oh, he’s brainwashed” or “He’s afraid that the thoughts-police will come arrest him” right? Well, he could be brainwashed… but then again, what’s to say that democracy-supporters aren’t brainwashed also? As for the thoughts police part, he didn’t have to shout so loudly and with such emotion, did he? He could have just said “No no no. China’ government is great” and moved on.
Anyways, I doubt anyone would read this essay, so whatever. Have a nice day!

  21. How can that be a promo for the hair salon? Would you say oh yeah. .I want to go get my hair cut where that street guy got his cut! I don’t think so.

  22. Cool, its a give and take situation. Free hair cut, free promo time for the hair salon. Good marketing strategy.

  23. I need to trace that hair salon soon.. sing !!! Recession !!!!

  24. It could be marketing, but it could just be a good deed caught in its moment. Think of all the ‘kind-hearted event’s’ that go on without being documented, how can you instantly jump to the conclusion that this one is scripted? It could be & it could not be but the fact that you instantly saw the situation in pessimistic perspective. You must be from America.

Yeah, I don’t prefer that her hairstyle but she doesn’t know I exist & I doubt she cares that you think her hairstyle is horrible.

  25. Ehh.. I really don’t give a fuck if it’s scripted or not either. I’m outta here lol.

  26. How many asshole comments does it take to disrespect this posted story? 43 at last count. How do you people look at yourselves in the morning. Never anything good to say about anything. And they call us Americans assholes! Chinese people hate each other, theirselves and anyone else in the world. Such happy people. Just reading all of the positive comments made by the Chinese readers. Hell, I try to find something good about everyone I meet.

  27. blablabla

now how can china grow into a modern state!

next thing you know those whacked out bums will be knocking on her door every other day

” oh please! please i am so pooooooor

fuck the poor they had their chance to succeed they just now use their stupidity onto the whole of society!

    by the way

most beggars are cons they are young enough and able enough to get a job of some sort
collect bottles or recycle help wash a window or two

i never give hand outs never had and never will

why? because they never offered me anything but their monkey mentality

  28. Common sense in which posts? If it’s about marketing the “beautiful boss” sure did a shitty job promoting herself by not bothering to even give the her name or the store which she operates.

It’s a lot more likely someone took some pictures, then made up a feel good story and then posted it on the interwebs.

  29. wtf is rong with u ???

  30. Maybe because beggars are (strictly speaking) not proles?

But it was a strange outburst, and after so long, too.

Jones, I’ve been reading a lot of these boards (derelict that I now am), and I noticed that, despite your views on guns, you’re a good-hearted fellow, who often made me laugh. Hope you will accept the old olive branch…
