  1. Somewhat odd, exaggerated but touchy.

  2. This is a tremendously bold move. But when it comes to death, after time, you will rebuild and move on from your grief, and you will still be married to a corpse.
He will have to divorce his dead wife, if he ever wants to marry again – which will be really really painful for everyone.
Never the less. Good on the love.

    • Your logic is flawless, but your premise is faulty.

Dead people cannot enter into contracts, so there’s no wedding here. No divorce needed, neither.

This event is a spectacle and nothing else. Someone should’ve told the groom to get a grip of himself

A private moment of grief turned into a public spectacle, yuck…

      • Oh geez have some compassion. So people who put up adverts for loved ones funerals are also making private grief into public spectacles?

      • Golly_ms_molly, Your understanding of Chinese culture is perhaps a bit shallow; ghost marriages is nothing new, and can take various forms. One involves a living participant standing before the usual matrimonial authority with a chicken (representing the deceased), as they accept their vows. Thereafter, the decedent will be considered “married” insofar cultural and familial sensibilities. Another manner is to bind two decedents together by marrying two corpses. This has created somewhat of a macabre matchmaking commercialism in today’s China for single dead girls. Here is a New York Times article for those that are uninformed:

        http://www.nytimes.com/2006/10/05/world/asia/05china.html

      • ms molly, if you read the article again, the couple already have their marriage certificate in december. so they are officially married by law but in the chinese custom, this is not recognised without a wedding ceremony. maybe it’s the groom’s way of comforting his bride’s family that he will take care of them – due to china’s 1 child policy or maybe it’s his way of a closure. let’s not criticise but emphatise as this is something we will not understand until it happens to us, lest it does, in order that we do.

      • 100% i agree with golly ms molly… i dont wanna know about customs… and marrying a dead women wont do any good or bad to her… thing that counts is how much you made her to feel your love when she was alive… its easy to love the dead than to love the living for a life time… but i do agree its sad… and we are living in a sciken society…

    • If he married her and she is dead would he not be a widower? hence he would not need a divorce.

  3. My goodness….. poor people.. :(

  4. What are these salty extracts coming from my eyes?!

  5. shame on anyone wondering if the groom consumated this “marriage”

shame on you, i say. SHAME!

  6. From the title, I thought the groom married another woman at the funeral of his deceased wife.

Yeah, this is touching and sad.

  7. Feelsbadman.jpg

  8. Good man, but stupid.

  9. I’m sorry but the picture of him holding his dead girlfriend’s bloated hand is just unsettling.

I much prefer the shot of him holding her picture, as it reflects more of the memory he had of her. Holding onto a corpse though, especially that hand… **Shudder**

  10. Would it be considered too western if the funeral was carried out where the deceased is placed in a normal wooden casket instead?

But that story really did make me feel sad. How cruel life can be sometimes.

    • At Bando, No it would not. Chinese funerary practices traditionally involves wooden caskets placed into the ground. Historically, there isn’t any evidence for placing decedents into crystal coffins (unless you count Chairman Mao’s).

  11. Maybe she dialed 1-800-Suicide?

Hey you little rich kid, what’s your beef?
Come and tell the Grym Reaper all of your grief
You asked for a Benz and you only got a Jeep
Your pop’s got endz, but yo he’s mad cheap
Maybe you’re a bastard child you think
Mom and dad are white and you’re dark as ink
Maybe you’re Sicilian with a tan
But you hate lasagna and the pizza man
Now you stand on the grave digga locked and
You’re singing the blues about the rough life you’ve got
    Not
You don’t wanna live no more
I guess you’re really ready for the grave yard tour
When you get home just fill up your windows and you doors
Turn your oven on high for about four hours
Light you a blunt, kiss your ass goodbye
You gassed yourself ’cause it’s a suicide!

  12. Life is really cruel but he dodged a bullet but in the way no one should have to sustain. If this type of thing happened to me, I would have offed myself after the ceremony. All signs point to a lonely miserable life of memories and people feeling sorry for him. How his attempt to try and start over with another woman in the future will be a struggle to balance fear and love. This display of extreme love will haunt him in his sleep. His guilt to properly protect the love of his life will drive him crazy, more than likely drive him to drinking more, miss work, isolate himself becoming counter productive to society.

    Someone hand him a knife.

  13. This is almost an exact opposite story as the story previous where the woman is aborting her husband’s baby because they found out he has stomach cancer, so she can marry someone else.

Worlds apart. It’s also interesting to see that it’s the man who is the overly sentimental one in the stories, and the woman who appears heartless – quite the opposite of most stereotypical ‘western’ relationships.

  14. My heart goes out to this man.

  15. Quite the opposite of legends of the fall…the woman who couldn’t wait for her true love to return. I think he is a beautiful men.

  16. in this wedding and funeral ceremony, the thieves’ heads should be sacrisfied to the soul of the deceased like the rebels did in northen soong dynasty.

  17. This story is really really… sad one.
Feel pity for the Boy (or Man)
Feel too bad for the lady’s family.
    But in China, IMPOSSIBLE IS NOTHING: I GOT A DEEP FEELING THAT THE mAN IS not STRANGER TO WHAT HAPPENNED TO THE bRIDE;
Sometimes, I see like chinese brothers are ready for everything just to become “Popular”. No matter is bad, worse , good or whatever; just wanna be POPULAR.
See pictures, videos, clothes, …and so on, seems like the man was ready for THE Ceremony.
Anyway, this is my point of vue. Just express my feeling.
Let the police findout who are involved in the bride assassination. May Her Rest Be Quite, Peaceful and Blessed.
    “Time Will Tell”.

  18. Yeah it is actually quite touching.

  19. very touching…

  20. I hope the thieves are caught and punished accordingly…
    Speechless

  21. I’m going to play devil’s advocate here. I think it is a show. Most of the Chinese people people I have met, and this is reinforced from their parents, believe that marraige is for economic reasons . . . not love. Yes, even in 2010. This does not mean that it is not the same in other countries. But, I do have a problem with the cameras and the glass coffin. It seems more for publicity and less about love. Just a thought.

  22. publicity or not. this is fucked up. This is the story that will get the police moving on the investigation. Create an element of extreme tragedy and its bound to fuel a fire that needs to burn and then later extinguished. As you can see most of us Assholes can agree that this is a fucked up situation no matter where you go or where you’re at. Just look at the symbolism.

devil’s advocate give me a fucking break.

  23. I think a large number of these English language posters are callous son’s of bitches. The guy’s fiance is murdered and you make jokes about it?

  24. True love never dies T_T

    Fuck all you pathetic haters!

  25. Damn those necrophiliacs !

  26. If the man had waited a little longer say another week or two, when the corpse became decomposed, general appearance unrecognizable, worms came out of all the openings, liquids leaked out of the body and the odor became unbearable, would he still hold her hand and marry the copse?
The dead is gone, the live needs to move on. That is the sensible thing to do.
No matter how sad you are to lose your beloved fiancee and how much you miss her, nothing will bring her back. One must learn to understand that. Otherwise one is living like a living dead.

  27. in each life we will all lose the true love in the end, some comes early, some comes later…
the important thing is how could you face it, be positive.
to remember someone is deep inside your heart, you don’t need to prove by others…..

  28. B Real, Maybe you should get real. They won’t investigate this tragedy at all. Even if they they do, they will beat some innocent migrant worker until he gives a false confession or he dies. Either way, they will have their man. Right?

    • For someone who cries about freedom and all that shit, what’s the point of having freedom if you are too fucking stupid to exercise your freedom and use a search engine?

      http://baike.baidu.com/view/3238128.htm?fr=ala0_1

      “案发后8小时,两名罪犯全部落入法网,可挚爱的女友却已永远离他而去。”

The two thieves were arrested within 8 hours. And no, they are not innocent migrant workers forced to confess.

  29. finally something I can agree with but atleast they can do something. Some one has to pay because this poor guy did. If anytihng they should be punishing the police. They have a lack of patrol. Most are just traffic police. Won’t bother to stop any type of confrontation. People have to go into stations to file a report. “My wife was stabbed please help!!!!” Officer pulls out a note paper and writes 6 pages of “man claims wife was stabbed to death”.

Another scenario, 3 years ago the girl before I married my wife was stabbed in crowded area for her purse. People stared as her friend got prodded in the ass and then my girl was stabbed thru and thru 4 time in the forearm. We went to police station and the police didn’t even leave the station. They were too busy filling out paper work from the other 7-8 bitches that was giving the same report. They told us to leave come back some other time. Meanwhile my girl cant get hospital treatment with no ID and these guys probably got away with it.

I can say that China’s police did help me get my iphone back. Im glad the fucker didn’t stab me. He would gotten away.

Does any one have an update on the stabbers in this story?

  30. passion of christ…

  31. Too bad Chinese don’t have guns to protect themselves from criminals, i.e.: thieves, police, communists.

  32. RIP for the bride..

Wishing that the groom will have change to know that there are many people in other side of the world feel bad with him and feel good with all the thing that he have done for his wife and get to know that there are still TRUE DEAR LOVE in this world.

Wishing that the bride and all the one who love her will have change to know that there is at least one person here who never known her before praying that she will be in heaven and love with her lover ,the groom, in next life without any bad thing like this.

Just want to let you know that your story are really famous in Thai net user now

  38. Honeymoon’s going to be pretty special!

  39. So sad and heartbreaking.

  40. i love u so much , , beautiful wedding
    she is beautiful

  41. There’s a world of difference between funeral ‘adverts’ and this daft spectacle.

Dont you sense there’s something ‘off’ about getting married to a dead body?

The whole glass coffin thing is like something from Snow White too.

    Double yuck

  42. I don’t see – unless he made the web post himself – how he is responsible for making a spectacle any more than he would be for holding a standard funeral or wedding. They’re ALL public displays to some extent.

If you think the result is disgusting, that’s fine, but his attempt at expressing his mixed feelings for the deceased are less “daft” than they are simply “offensive to _your_ sensibilities.”

And if you really must insist on the whole thing being outrageous, you ought to know that certain regions of China have a tradition of corpse weddings from which this “spectacle” is not a significant deviation.

  43. I agree with jones, why must everything raises controversy and debates. The man just lost someone he love dearly and he’s holding a ceremony to express his love. I say that dude have every right to make this as grant as possible. Also, it’s his family biz what he is doing, leave him along and cut the judgements out

  44. He might have to do that. No one is going to stop him because every one will understand his pain. Like with the old guy who jumped with his blow up doll. What a way to go if he had succeeded.

  45. At Uber, Well, if one is going to be a bean counter about this, then it’s both the Red AND White envelopes. The Red for the celebratory and the white for the mourning.
