How Guns Are Sold In American Wal-Marts, Chinese Reactions

Guns on display in a glass case at a Wal-Mart in America.

From Tiexue, Sina, & Mop:

This is how America’s Wal-Mart sell guns

Today, while visiting Wal-Mart, I took a photo while at the gun sales counter. The guns were sold in a rotating glass display case just like this with price tags attached. If interested, you just ask the salesperson to take it out for you to examine. Being able to buy a gun while buying groceries at Wal-Mart, convenient.

In this glass display case are different types of ammunition.

Comments from Tiexue:

txgk:

I’d like to ask the lou zhu a question. It may be very naive but please be so kind as to give me an answer. Since guns are sold like this in America, is their government not afraid of social problems? Right now in Shanghai, the supermarkets selling cooking knives have also locked them inside glass display cases like this.

bandit800:

Because the hostility between their people is not as deep as it is with us, which is to say they are harmonious in the true meaning and not river crab. Hehe.

北美孤狼:

China bans guns and aside from political reasons, it may be because the government has considered that there are too many neurotic people in China, people who will bark/howl for no reason. If these kind of people had guns, imagine how bad it would be. (I’m referring to the issue, not people, so I hope certain people will keep that in mind before responding).

破奴:

I think the American Constitution has a part that says the citizens have the right to overthrow an authoritarian government…it is what I have heard, not sure if it is true or not.
But in China, that is not possible, and the key is that the character of the people [on average] is not there yet. If firearms were available for sale in China, then we’d probably have to wear bullet-proof vests in order to go out.

飞行音:

Our country’s people have treachery/trouble-making in their bones. You can see it now, in all of China, no one respects anyone else. Learned men scorn each other and military men are lowly to each other, this place cursing that place. If everyone in China had guns, then the country would be torn apart. Even though everyone speaks Chinese, everyone has a different heart. Are we lacking lessons from history?!!

鹰舞苍穹:

Only with citizens who have high restraint and a society with relatively few injustices would [a country] dare be like this.

cbasky:

Imagine for a moment, if we were to sell guns in this manner, I think those domestic tigers, birds, bears, these animals basically could no longer survive.

bluehaze:

I think I saw a short-barrel M700, did I see wrong??
America is really not bad. The weapons that are sold without restrictions appear to be those used for hunting, but even openly selling firearms like this truly makes people sigh.

俺老头是老兵:

If this were China, the number of crime-related deaths would increase ten times. Therefore, America’s gun deaths is still very little. In the future [if guns were allowed in China], those who are involved in forced demolitions and chengguan would not be so niubi anymore. Pressure us and they’ll just shoot you a few times.

五好青年:

Damn, foreign countries are too incredible, even allowing guns to be sold. If China were to also allow them to be sold, things would be a mess. [The population of] black society [organized crime] would at least increase 2 times.
And with China’s current education level, it is possible that school shootings would happen often.

kelefly:

America is a country that was built up from the first shot of the Battle of Lexington.

And the biggest reason they were victorious at the time was because the ordinary people had guns.

冯欣伯林根:

When everyone has guns, no one is afraid of a few people having guns. If it is fear of overthrowing the government, there is no need. If the current government in power truly doesn’t follow the people’s will, in four years at most, they will have to step down and at worst there are still impeachment procedures. There is no need to use knives and guns [no need for violence], truly not worth it. If one wants to express one’s political views, one can organize one’s own political party. Although America in reality is only a two-party system, there still exist other political parties, and what more, the constitution protects the participation of every political party, with the most powerful non-mainstream parties like the Green Party normally getting around 10% of the vote. If one day, this party were to replace the Democratic Party or the Republican Party, the constitution would also protect it. And when there is social disorder, there is the SWAT. With so many people having guns in America, I don’t think a little handgun or a small hunting rifle can cause any social impact.

中国人都期待航母:

The reason why America allows the ordinary people to possess guns is to prevent dictatorship…when that happens, the people can revolt…
Over time, Americans have developed the habit of not using guns even if they have them. Or maybe they are bound by ideas of individual heroism, believing that men should use fists to fight it out, and not relying on guns.
But in our country, the once proper so quick to resort to taking up knives, if there were guns, definitely within 10 years, the population of Chinese people would probably be reduced by half…haha.
PS: America as a country has the highest penetration of firearms in the world, with one gun per capita, but the number of Americans that die under the barrel of a gun are only a trivial 30,000…

幽狙:

America’s president is chosen by the American citizens, so this type of government is not afraid of the common people harming society and rebelling, because don’t need to resort to guns [violence] and only need to demonstrate and protest to make the president step down~~

kemescape:

Americans lives are comfortable, so why have a good life and not live it? Usually chaotic/disorderly societies are all in impoverished countries; You have guns, others have guns, mutually checking each other. If you carry a gun illegally, the police have the right to kill you. Americans’ tradition highly values life…

  1. A few things to add from an American.

    1. The Constitution of the United States does allow its citizens the right to bear arms (have guns).

    2. Not everyone in America has a gun.

    3. Most of the guns in America owned by private citizens are used for hunting or home defense.

    4. Not all those that have a gun know how to shoot a gun. This can be both a good and bad thing.

  2. *sigh* I miss the good ole days when I could go to wal-mart and just go look at the firearms for sale there. Might have not been the best selection of firearms but it was a good sight to see at a store like that. My time on this earth sucks, right at the period where we have TSA BS, guns are bad, it’s for the children, and the regular BS.

  3. I live in US, i am from Shanghai 23 years ago. i am NRA member. lady like to play with their jewel, i like collect firearm, i own 23 hand guns and 18 long guns, they are all so well made from all of the world…

  4. As a US citizen I can clear up a few of the questions some posted above.

1- Yes, it is true guns are sold in stores as shown in this article. However to own a gun you must pass a security check (people with criminal records are not allowed to buy guns) and have a gun holder permit. If the person has both he still has to wait 3 days to receive the weapon.

2- No, the sale of guns to citizens does not create social problems. It solves them. A criminal will get a gun by illegal means..the black market or steal it. A citizen cannot defend himself against a criminal if he has no gun. You can look into American news and see many examples of criminals being shot dead by citizens. Saves on the police work ;)

Gun ownership by the citizens also holds the government in check. The US government knows there are nearly 200 million citizens that own guns..many are military-grade assault rifles.

As Egypt has shown the world, a people fed up with the government can and will show up by the millions on the streets. In America if the Gov. became real bad and oppressive it would find millions marching on Washington DC… ARMED.

  5. A few Americans have posted comments stating that a permit to own firearms is required to buy a gun. One stated a 3 say waiting period is required. I suppose that is true in some states or cities. The 3 day wait applies to pistols only. However, in my state and all the states bordering my state this is not the case. There is an “instant” background check done over the phone called “NICS”. The NICS check will result in one of three decisions: approval, hold or denial. If it is hold, the NICS people have 72 hours to justify the hold. If no reply comes as a result of the hold then the buyer can pick up his gun. As for the permit, in my state their is no such thing except a license to carry a concealed permit. Said permit will allow waiver of the 3 day waiting period for pistols only, no wait required for rifles and shotguns. Nor is the concealed pistol permit required to purchase any firearm.

These background checks are NOT required for private, in-state sales and transfers of firearms. They only apply to purchases made from federally licensed retail stores that sell firearms and for sales between private citizens of different states. In the latter situation, the buyer and seller go to a licensed dealer and pay a small fee for a NICS check.
There is a saying: “Only free men own guns, all else are slaves of the state”.

  6. I am an American (wife is Chinese from Zhejiang) and I HATE guns, especially handguns. If I could, I would make handguns illegal and rifles and “long guns” much more difficult to obtain (after licensing, classes, background check and being over 21 years of age, or be active ex-military/police.

Many pro-gun people scoff and say that one can use anything to kill someone. Should knives be outlawed too? Of course not. However, a handgun serves one purpose, to kill other human beings. You don’t hunt with a handgun, it serves no other purpose. If someone pulls a knife on me, I can usually run away or maybe fight the person off. With a gun, you are at their mercy (which has caused a genocide of people kidnapped, assaulted, raped and killed because someone else had this unfair advantage.)

Guns have caused so much destruction, mayhem and murder and has shattered so many people’s lives. Many people would be alive today if it wasn’t for guns and the gun industry. Most people get killed by guns not by crime, but by accidents, a child playing with it thinking it to be a toy. Or someone who has had a bad week, gets drunk and decides in his cups to kill himself (my cousin went out that way). There were two cases from my hometown last year where someone angry in public at another party and under the influence of alcohol has pulled out a gun and started shooting with people getting killed. In China, it would of been a fist fight and a lot of shouting.

I just do not feel that a hallmark of a free society is free gun availability. If I have to live somewhere where I have to carry any kind of weapon to live my everyday existance, I am not free./

One thing I love about China is the lack of guns by everyday people.

    • Mr. Zheng … You come across like you wish to move back to china.Or is the land of the big PX too much for you with all it’s freedoms. If your “hallmark” is complete security from everything and that alleged security is so generously and perfectly supplied byt he government…please , please do move back to china and become a citizen there with your natural born wife.

      • Actually, if you trace it out, the problems with guns has nothing to do with the guns. It has to do with the bullets.

Now, while people have a fear of a gun, tell me, what are they afraid of? Getting hit in the head? I could use a metal pipe and get the same or better results.

No, they are afraid of the bullet in the gun. As Chris Rock once said, what we need is not gun control, but bullet control.

Make the bullets $6,000 each, and I guarantee you would have less gun related crimes. “I would so cap your ass, but I am broke. I’ll see you after the bank approves my loan. Better hope they don’t accept my 3rd mortgage, or you are so dead.”

        • Silly… any time you outlaw or tax a product or service, you create a golden business opportunity for gangs. Even Norinco (the Peoples Liberation Army owned arms factories) tried to capitalize on that back over 20 years ago, by selling illegal full automatic Chinese made AK47 rifles to Los Angles street gangs. I assure you, manufacturing ammunition is not all that complicated, certainly less so than smuggling cocaine in from Columbia.

    • I don’t understand or agree with many of the things you are saying. You don’t have to carry a gun you are given a choice. While overall I do not approve of guns, I do understand that in cases of when the government goes restricting people’s freedom to an extreme guess who will have the guns and who wouldn’t. Their are tight restrictions on filling out to own a gun anyways (I completely disagree with you in a person class allowing them to own one or not) and the owning a gun doesn’t let you just walk around freely shooting people anyways.

    • I completely agree with everything you said. I am also American. I have shot many guns and basically most people I know have guns, but I can proudly say that I don’t have and will never have a gun. If you don’t want to kill people don’t buy a gun. If you want a gun to kill things, maybe you should rethink your motivations.

    • @Mr. Zheng..then MOVE TO CHINA! guns are essential to a free society. Chna doesn’t doesn’t allow the free ownership of guns and it isn’t a free society.

  7. Gun nuts!!!!!!!

  8. As an American (and a gun owner) I am perfectly comfortable knowing most of my fellow citizens are legally armed. It’s the ones who are illegally armed that cause trouble. The hard part for the criminal is trying to guess who has a gun and who doesn’t – it’s pure guessing, and makes it hard for them.

It’s interesting to see other people’s reactions – different societies view the same thing very differently!

  9. Herr Peter.
“With fruitcakes like Cosantoir and Strem about…”
“Tell, you what, though, mental midget….”

    Sir,
I find your gratuitous rudeness disturbing in the least, particularly as you represent our nation to the Chinese
people by the default of simply being there. There is no
functional value in your nasty little habit and it conveys
the subjective notion that your behavior is considered
acceptable in American culture. That this sort of behavior
is right out of the “liberal” playbook, and, is more typical
in “liberal” and less well armed areas of the nation lends
support to the reality that a well armed population is a
    polite population.

  10. Nihao,
I live in one of only two provinces in the US where “guns” are restricted from being owned by citizens. Indeed here we can’t even own ‘replica’ guns or even something that looks like a gun.
Here is a map of the rest of the US:
    http://www.moccw.org/map.html

I really think my government in my province is insane.
I can’t carry my pocket (folding knife) outside my house as it is greater than 4-inches and despite the fact the 9/11 hijackers used box cutters with less than 1-inch blades. I frequently hear gunfire in the distance as criminals go about their trade, yet I am forced to walk disarmed. I think my city in my province would be a lot more pleasant and polite place to live if I had the same right to carry a firearm as the criminals – who do obviously – AND the vast majority of the rest of the US.

    • You are absolutely right! You would find it comforting to know you have a means of protecting yourself and your family from harm. Illinois is a very backward and corrupt state. You should work hard to voice your opinion and change the law to allow you freedom to choose to protect yourself.

  11. Very interesting website. I am an American, and wanted to say that in the past few years, most US states have changed their concealed carry gun laws so that ordinary citizens can easily get a permit to carry a handgun. The states became “shall issue” states, which means local law enforcement must issue a permit, so long as the background check clears (states often also require a simple study course).

I just got my permit 2 months ago. A popular online US site for buying guns is called bud’s gun shop, if you would like to see what anyone with a permit can purchase legally. I hope to purchase a Glock 19 or S&W M&P .45c next year.

Americans can also purchase many of the assault rifles carried by militaries around the world (and yes, even many famous Chinese and Russian guns, like the AK-47, can be easily purchased in many places). Most regular citizens cannot purchase these guns if they are fully-automatic (capable of firing multiple bullets while holding your finger on the trigger), but if modified to fire only single shots, they are OK.

The guns you see for sale in Wal-Mart are pretty much all shotguns and hunting rifles. Wal-Mart does not sell handguns, but handguns can be purchased at licensed stores in most towns or cities.

  12. Google” Ammunition reloading, supply and demand, prohibition.”
    Silly idea.

    • If you are addressing me, you need to learn both how to use the reply button and you need to learn the difference between a joke and something serious.

If you are not addressing me then, well, I will (t)roll on out.

  13. At least Americans and Canadians can survive a little longer than the Chinese people in China if there was ever a zombie apocalypse around the world.

Then again we Chinese can Kung Fu the zombies with our fist, make sure you don’t punch them in the mouth.

  14. China isn’t the only country that has no gun laws…

  15. The right to bear arms has wreaked havoc on the bear population in the US.

  16. well not everyone agrees that the 2nd amendment was the best thing ever. Might had been good at the time, but not so good these days

  17. China has no gun laws?

If only I would have known! I could have taught all of my classes with a bandolier and my trusty six-shooters.

  18. The problem isn’t the guns, it’s that there isn’t enough land for the bears. At least we didn’t kill off the animal population like in China. It’s a real problem there. People don’t really talk about it but depopulating the local animal life is pretty common in China. Entire species can end up on the dinner table…but at least it’s used for food and not trophies(in general). I do agree though, in the US, less killing bears please. If you have to hunt bear, give them sidearms so the bears have a fighting chance. No long rifles allowed :)
Those would be real bragging rights…if they survive lol.
On the other hand, we really need to kill more deer. The population is out of control here in the East Coast.

  19. I think some people missed the pun here

  20. The guns are a check on the gov’t as it was intended to be. Think the Chinese officials would be as corrupt as they are if people were allowed guns? Maybe the nutcases would target the officials instead of the schoolchildren….

  21. And the lack of affordable meat.

  22. and how’s your violent crime rate doing over there….last time I check in merry old england it was not so good….maybe citizens being able to defend themselves would help a bit….

  23. Shhhhh! Someone wanted to keep a lid on that, y’know.

  24. I would like a Norinco AK, but you can only get them second hand. I’d also like a Chinese broomhandle Mauser. Fat chance of that ever happening.

  25. The biggest exporter of military hardware in the world are the USA. Grow up.

  26. every govt in the damn freaking world is corrupt. try being in a high position and sit on millions of cash… do you honestly thing you can resist not getting even 3-5 bucks for coffee?

that being said.. china is fairing better than the US which is drowning in its own debt. this is the difference between china and the USA.. freaking state of california has a 1 trillion deficit.. is thats not a result of corruption then i dont know what is.

  27. well worded. i would not trust a kid with a gun, let alone one with a pencil to write perfectly. Might even apply to many adults too.

  28. It’s cause we’re fucking crazy, couple years ago there was an article on digg that estimated that 50% of Americans had a dangerous mental disorder and where unaware of it.

  29. Alain actually took all of those measurements himself, his throat is lined like the door of a convenience store.

  30. I know, I was responding to Frijoles Refritos.

  31. I was never a big fan of boar arms…I’m glad I don’t have the right to boar arms.

  32. Personally, I can’t bear puns, so I was trying to ignore it.

  33. You might do better not to imply that the guy with the gun looks bad…

  34. Merinas van der Lubbe

LOOK bad??? bwAAAhahahaaa… Like we care what “people outside of the US” think about how we arm ourselves.

I’ll tell you what we DO care about: OBAMA makes us look bad to the whole *world*.

    And weak!

    And stupid!!

  35. No. I think it makes us look like a free country in which citizens have the right to buy weapons to defend themselves both from criminals and, if ever necessary, the government.

I don’t think it is any coincidence that China cannot afford to give its people this right.

  36. The real truth is that you have to undergo a federal felony background check, through the NICS computer (National Instant Check System). This computer system is run and monitored by the FBI, and can tell instantly if the purchaser is a felon or not. Felons are not allowed to purchase guns (with very few minor exceptions).

This background check only takes a few minutes and assures that criminals can’t get guns through any legal means.

How is that supposed to make ME look bad?

  37. The shotgun, bow rules are usually safety issues. A rifle shot can travel really far compared to a bow or shotgun. In Pennsylvania, they draw a line. North of a certain interstate highway rifles are allowed, south of that they are not. This is because of the higher population density in the southern part of the state, thus a higher chance of a missed rifle shot hitting someone or something.

  38. I’m guessing you’ve never bought a handgun in Texas. Prior to getting my CHL (concealed handgun license) the process went like this:

    1) Pick out the gun
    2) Show my driver’s license
    3) Hand the dealer my money
    4) Fill out one form (ATF’s Form 4473)
    5) Dealer calls NICS (National Instant Criminal Background Check System), about a minute later they say it’s clean and he hands me the case with my gun

In total, less than 5 minutes. Now that I have my CHL I am allowed to skip the NICS background check since I have undergone a much more through check. The process is now:

    1) Pick out gun
    2) Show my CHL
    3) Hand the dealer my money
    4) Fill out one form (ATF’s Form 4473)
    5) The dealer hands me the case with my gun

  39. California (in general) = state of whiners, liberals, and worst case example of socialism in the US. Too much of the hispanic population affecting CA politics. People have to realize that you can’t spend what you don’t have. The Governator realizes this but his constituents refuse to give up all the freebies they’ve been getting.

US officials can of course be corrupt but nowhere near the level of Chinese officials or in such numbers. I do agree though that the US has a problem with debt….the country and the people. Easy credit’s a curse. Credit isn’t so easy to come by in China. It’s arguable whether China really is doing better than the US. Too many perspectives to view it from.

  40. I live in california. I hate it. Hideous women, faggots, mexican takeover, etc.

  41. looks like ball gargler woke up from his nap and needs attention

  42. They do now. If you can prove that you have the finances to support a larger household. If you live in areas where the local population has gone stagnant …like Guangzhou (migrants don’t count). If your a farmer in a rural area and your one child was a daughter….. If your not a gov’t official but plain rich and can bribe your way in to getting legal ID’s for your kids (my wife’s aunt had 3 kids, bribed officials, paid poor folks to sign off on them as their own, and later bribed more officials to change official documentation…she married in to a rich family)

I might be a bit mistaken. China’s laws change so fast. There are some other exceptions….Many localized areas or cities of China now have a population deficit that is having some rather detrimental effects on their local area. A lot of areas are adjusting the one child law to compensate with the blessings of the head honchos in Beijing.

  43. Switzerland, where every man of military age has to keep an assault rifle in his home, is a pretty unusual case, don’t you think?

  44. “Much like they would if guns were illegal in the first place. Harder to get and more expensive if illegal, but all the more effective as they wouldn’t have to expect the victim to be armed.”

True, criminals in countries with strict controls on guns can still obtain guns if they know the right people and are willing to spend enough money. However, in the UK at least they usually don’t bother using a gun because they don’t think they have to, they know that using a gun will increase their sentences if caught, and because they don’t want to spend the money. It’s also worth mentioning that many of the illegal guns in the UK are smuggled from the US, lax gun laws in the US do not only affect that country.

  45. Merinas van der Lubbe

Yeah, the Chinese will eat anything, it’s sad. Comes from centuries of intermittent famine. They do have animal protection agencies despite all that, though.

On the bright side, though… Maybe we could get them to eat Obama next time he goes over there?! (He *must* be good for *something*!)

  46. I don’t care about gun control, but that is a really stupid analogy. You can easily live your life without a gun in the house.

  47. If you loved your children you would figure out a way to live your life without knives either.

  48. Fear and violence is strife is the USA. Thats how so many people die to gunfire compared to other countries. USA is a violence worshipping country, like Old Rome. Yet at the same time, they abhor sexuality, which is strange, because they seem to like to use the word fuck every day 100 times for no reason.

  49. don’t be so nice, this guy is an idiot

  50. You are stupid and uneducated as to be expected. Btw., a boar, especially when wounded or rounded up, may easily maim or kill a man. Hunting rules advise never to enter the thicket where a boar is to be expected without a proper 9mm or so handgun. You would never get a rifle ready against an attacking boar near to you. The problem with hunters frequently is that they are lacking experience and underestimate risks. Carrying a gun doesn’t make you Superman, but many feel exactly that way. That’s why I do not like the notion that idiots like those posting here have access to something requiring diligence and responsibility like firearms do. As to gun laws in Germany, they are more restrictive than in the US, especially with handguns and carrying firearms in the public, be it openly or concealed. Beneath that, it is not particularly hard to own guns in Germany. Yet, there are relatively strict duties how to lock them up.

  51. You mean “checked” as in “didn’t check”?

    http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/cri_tot_cri_percap-crime-total-crimes-per-capita

Check all the other crime stats, the picture doesn’t get that much better. The truth is that crime statistics in the US and the UK are comparable in most areas (we have more burglaries, you have more rapes, we have more assaults, etc.) although these crime statistics are not comparing like with like – there are differing definitions as to what constitutes an assault in different jurisdictions, and the reporting rate is different.

The only area in which this does not seem to be the case is that of homicide, which the US has far more of. I wonder why that could be . . .

  52. Jones, try harder. You are simply too pathetic. I am reading the brainless nonsense you are defecating here with more than enough of diligence and due disgust. So do not try to explain me what is funny and what is not. I chose to ignore what you confuse with humor. And I know a bit more about as well hunting as firearms than you, and your comment was simply idiotic and had nothing to do with puns about bears and bearing arms. Severe hunting accidents with boars usually have few or nothing to do with marksmanship and the ability of using a rifle in game. They nearly always occur in the thicket where a wounded or rounded up animal is hiding.

There, the handgun is the only adequate weapon, and scoring a hit or several onto the quite massive animal does not require extreme marksmanship, only cold blood. And the 9mm (.38), typically an automatic like Walther, Beretta or similar is usually preferred over bigger calibers, especially over revolvers due to higher firing speed and less recoil, bullets are deforming and doing considerable damage when hitting. Animals when hit usually abort an attack or at least are stopped (if one is lucky). And it is advisable not to go on boars without some good hounds.

But I consider all that bit wasted on you and your ZB attitude.

  53. It is fascinating how verbose an immature kiddy becomes when he frantically tries to show expertise on things he does not understand anything about. As to calibers, all these definitions have to be considered with the weapon or weapon class in question and your assertion “.38 is more than 9mm” is simply bogus and shows your absolute ignorance of handgun technology manufacturing and standards history (I assume you are one of the yanks who end up with the finger in their asshole when it comes to finding their place on the globus). And the impact of a bullet hit highly depends on the ammo used. BTW, I won’t tell you what ZB is – I am sure the educated readers have understood. And me, I do not play online games, that is your world.
Get a life and an education.

  54. Jones, there is no waiting period. If you pass the NICS background check you get your gun.

The FBI NICS background check will validate if you are a felon, a violant spose or if the various law enforcement departments have deemed you not fit for firearm ownership.

And to the rest of you miscreants and yahoos – in the Unites States people own (and sometimes carry) guns because they are FREE to do this. Period. Freedom. You silly people need to stop building your opinion of the United States from TV shows and movies – they are simply false.

I know, I immigrated to the USA 15 years ago, and the country is not what is depicted in the movies. I own and enjoy shooting guns for fun, for sport and carry one because I am free and allowed to.

Hell, my 12 year old daughter shots rifle, shotgun and pistol.

Only those with an immature psyche have an unnatural and unhealthy fear of guns. What better measure of a free society than if its FREE citizens may choose to be armed or not.

  55. You missed the rest of the quote:

“All political power comes from the barrel of a gun. The communist party must command all the guns, that way, no guns can ever be used to command the party.”

  56. I bought one of my handguns in Oct ’09 and another earlier this year.

Your brother probably had to wait because NICS returned a “delay” response instead of coming back clear. This happens to some people, if the dealer doesn’t get a response within 3 days the sale can proceed. Sometimes they get a call back in a few hours/days saying it can proceed.

  57. The UK has more assaults and burglaries because killing the perps is not a chargeable offense in a large number of American states, whereas it can be a capital offense in the UK (leading to a life term). Home invasion in the UK or even beating someone senseless carries few consequences in the UK, whereas in the US, a good Samaritan can shoot or stab the perp to death in many US states without negative legal consequence. The US has more homicides because 12% of its population is black, compared to 2% in the UK. That 12% commits 2/3 of the murders in the US. The US homicide rate (per 100K of each race) is 10 to 1 for black perps vs white ones.

  58. Could we have more homicides because we have more people? Nah, just because the U.K would fit inside Arizona doesn’t meen there is a population difference. Oh by the way, in the U.K. if a burglar hits several houses in the same street in one night, the police count that as ONE crime. Rather convenient when discussing crime rates.

  59. Won’t diss on someone who’s first language doesn’t appear to be English, but:

    - A “capital offence” is one you receive the death penalty for. Needless to say, the UK doesn’t have the death penalty, and therefore doesn’t have capital offences.

    - Self defence or defence of another is still a justification for killing. If you kill someone in justified self-defence or defence of another in the UK you will be just as exempt from prosecution as you would in the United States.

    - Thank you for the mindless racism. It may not have crossed your mind that the urban poor are those most likely to commit murder, and American blacks are more likely to be poor and live in the inner city than their white brethren due to fewer opportunities, higher rates of drug addiction, inadequate policing etc. etc.? Skin colour by itself has nothing to do with it.

Equally, I can’t criticize someone whose confident, yet inadequate grasp of English is in-born (can’t help being born both lazy and arrogant, can you?) despite all the advantages of geography, but stateside, there are plenty of non-death penalty states where capital crimes are automatically commuted to life imprisonment.

Actually, thank you for your mindless political correctness. The reality is that in America, a so-called poor person is wealthier than a lot of middle-class Chinese. He drives a car. He has air conditioning (heating and cooling). He has all the basic appliances taken for granted in America (microwave oven, vacuum cleaner, refrigerator, cooking range). He spends $200 a person on food (thanks to food stamps) every month, in a country where a pound of beef costs $1.99, a pound of chicken costs $0.99, a pound of potatoes costs $0.50 and a pound of cabbage costs $0.50. You don’t see middle class Chinese out there committing murder or carrying out street level robberies, do you? Bottom line, criminal activity in the welfare states of the West cannot be excused by poverty. What motivates it isn’t hunger – it’s greed, envy and sheer malice. And no amount of name-calling will change the fact that South Africa and Jamaica have far more restrictive gun laws than America, yet have murder rates of 7 to 10 times the US rate.

  61. I thought about it. Then, after extensive thought, I decided that ChinaSmack needs a filtering system for comments so I don’t have to read your tripe. I think a slashdot-style filtering system would be awesome.

  62. You re a drone brother

  63. Please get a history lesson. Without the 1st and 2nd amendments, our country would not be the greatest in the history of the world.

  65. Shut up you senseless commie.

  66. Wow… you leave me speechless with such casual ignorance.

  67. Would you still say that looking into the business end of an illegal gun pointed at you by a thug bent on taking your life? Not your money, but your life?

While its perfectly alright for you to cower and beg, leave me my right to defend myself.

  68. The right to bear arms for SELF DEFENSE is even MORE important these days with crime being as bad as it is.
Anti gunners seem to be ok with 1000 women being raped as long as ONE gangbanger doesnt get his head blown off.
    Sick…absolutely SICK!

  69. I can’t speak for the UK, but here in America, legal guns are actually much more expensive than illegal ones and in many places, it’s easier to get an illegal gun as you bypass whatever restrictions are in place.

You say most criminals in the UK don’t use guns because they don’t think they need them. For some reason that doesn’t make me feel better. I for one would not want to live in a place where criminals have the notion that victimizing citizens is so easy they don’t even need a gun to do it. I’d prefer for our criminals to take pause with the thought that breaking into my home or anyone else’s has a high likelyhood of ending their life prematurely.

You suggest that lax gun laws here are responsible for firearms being smuggled into the UK? I can assure you there are far easier places to smuggle a gun from. Just try taking a firearm on a plane or a passenger ship here. You’re chances are orders of magnitude easier smuggling a weapon out of Africa or Mexico or some 3rd world country.

  70. As US gunowner, avid shooter and experienced reloader, once possessing a Class 6 Manufacturers License issued by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives, I must point out that .38 Special is a “Marketing Term”. The actual bullet diameter is .357″ and 9mm is .355″. The actuality is .38 Special and .357 Magnum use the identical bullets. Be it 110gr, 125gr or 158gr weights.

When you’re hunting boars, I would definitely recommend a much larger caliber than 9mm or .38 Special. One could use .44 Magnum, .454 Casull, .50 Action Express or .500 Smith & Wesson Magnum. You do not want an injured boar after you.

My loading press and equipment is manufactured by Dillon.

  71. As and American, who lives in the Midwest US, I have held a Class 1 Federal Firearms License (Dealer in firearms other than destructive device) and A Class 6 Federal Firearms License (Manufacturer of Ammunition other that Armor Piercing and Destructive Device). Your statement asserting a 9mm (.38) is preferred over bigger calibers is proposterous. (9mm Kurz, .380 or 9mm Parabellum (Luger) .355) Both are totally inadequate for ANY practical hunting. Taking down a boar with the pitiful 9mm would at best piss him off. Yes, IF you could pump 10, 15+ rounds into it you probably would do it in, but that’s ridiculous. Preferred handguns for tough game is on the order of the .41 Magnum, .44 Magnum, .454 Casull, .50 Action Express or the newer .500 Smith & Wesson Magnum. All of these gun are REVOLVERS with the exception being the .50 Action Express being made for the Magum Research Desert Eagle semiautomatic pistol manufactured by Israel Military Industries in Ramat Hasharon, Israel. The muzzle energy and velocity are so great from these calibers, one well-placed shot will usually take down a boar. the diameters of these bullets range from .410″ to .500″ before they expand on impact. Many of these projectiles are rapid-expanding hollow points, from Speer Gold Dots, to Hornady’s XTPs (Xtreme Terminal Performance)
The 9mm evolved into a somewhat adequate defense round after ammunition manufacturers develops heavier weight, hollow point bullets such as the Winchester Black Talons, the Winchester Ranger Talons, the Winchester Silver Tips, Federal Hydra-Shoks and so forth.

My recommendation for personal defense? Either .40 Smith & Wesson Ranger Talons (180gr) or .45 ACP Winchester Ranger Talon (230gr) Preferred Handgun? Glock mid-size pistol with high-capacity magazines.

    Nuff said

  73. The beauty of gun ownership, beyond our unalienable rights to bear arms via the well thought out and drafted Constitution of the United States, is the fact that we do indeed possess and train to use those firearms, unlike the radical, leftist contingent.

Who do you think is going to win that battle should their minions come knocking on our doors in and attempt to nefariously strip us of those rights?

  74. You forgot the right to hunt (after purchasing a license of course) for your own tasty, tasty meat.

Duck, goose, pheasant, deer, elk, moose, even bear if you are brave enough. I have eaten all but bear before, from my father’s hunting endeavors (I personally do not like guns, but am knowledgeable about them and know how to shoot, reload, tear down, clean and maintain guns, and my dad has 6 rifles and 1 handgun. Personally, I prefer bows).

  75. Sounds like a damn good idea for the USA.
