I assure you, manufacturing ammunition is not all that complicated, certainly less so than smuggling cocaine in from Columbia. I am also American. I have shot many guns and basically most people I know have guns, but I can proudly say that I don't have and will never have a gun. You don't have to carry a gun you are given a choice. While overall I do not approve of guns, I do understand that in cases of when the government goes restricting people's freedom to an extreme guess who will have the guns and who wouldn't. Their are tight restrictions on filling out to own a gun anyways (I completely disagree with you in a person class allowing them to own one or not) and the owning a gun doesn't let you just walk around freely shooting people anyways.
