Baidu Hacked By Iranian Cyber Army, Chinese Reactions

China’s #1 search engine, Baidu, was hacked yesterday morning. Here are some of images of the Baidu homepage that were posted by Chinese internet users on the popular Mop BBS discussion forum, before Baidu was able to fix the situation. Below are some translated Chinese netizen reactions.

Comments from Mop:

穆特:

At first I thought my computer had a virus…

低调⌒μ:

9:49 [am], still cannot get on…forcefully inserting my stool here, waiting to watch the show.

老猫上树打望:

Sichuan people send a congratulatory telegram.

我爱齐达内:

Fuck, its true! Just now I couldn’t open it, and I thought there was something wrong with my internet, but turns out it was hacked.

风尘所以:

Baidu, stop losing face for Chinese people, ding this up.

七家:

Iranian Cyber Army is this NB?

你是文具盒:

I announce my responsibility for this incident.

Hey,小是。:

Actually, shanzhai Baidu can still be used right now.

The truth behind Baidu being hacked: Why do Iranians want to hack Baidu? The truth has already been announced. Political protest is only the superficial reason, but in reality — as a result of American military threats and crackdowns, Iranians are preparing to buy a large amount of missiles, so they came to Baidu to search, but upon encountering Baidu’s paid advertising placement, Iranians chose to buy the missiles from the first search result, and when they received them discovered they were cheated. Unable to control their anger, the Iranians hacked Baidu.

[This is a criticism of Baidu selling search result positions to questionable companies.]

聖水:

Baidu cups!

十個她不如你一個:

Fuck, such a big incident, should we retaliate?

挖口井埋人:

Some of the DNS were hacked that’s all, just changing the address to somewhere else~ What is on the home page is indeed Iran [Iranian Cyber Army]…with the DNS changed to 8.8.8.8, aside from www, all the other addresses should work, but this time Baidu definitely embarrassed [themselves/us]~

碧魂:

We have a test today! Li Yanhong jia you, you want us to die?

[Li Yanhong is the founder and chairman of Baidu.]

没钱凑热闹:

Iran is so uncultured/uneducated, it is America that meddles with them, and Google is American, Baidu is Chinese!!!

靠还有比我注册更晚的:

Where are China’s hackers? Retaliate!!!

There is big news about Google China today too. We will post about it soon.

Not yet hacked by the Iranian Cyber Army. chinaSMACK personals.

  1. Is this the actions of the government or the people of Iran? The people are currently involved in public protests against their government. This is a cry for attention. Lend your support to the Iranian people!

  2. 傻子(婊子也行)

at least Google’s JV in Iran is going well

  3. Same people that took out Twitter..

  4. those Iranian hackers were supposed to hack google, not baidu X(

  5. Is there tension between Iran and China or not? I do know there’s tension between Pakistan and Iran over Balochistan and terrorists and stuff and that China is a close Pakistani ally but otherwise I’m not really sure.

  6. I’m thinking the govt did this to try to take attention off of Google now.

    Way to steal their thunder.

  7. Government hackers don’t do this kind of amateur and silly shit. They dig into your systems to steal financial, political, military and industrial secrets. And in China’s case, secrets from Chinese oppositions. And sometimes, they destroy your system. But they would never leave (or try to anyway) any traces of who they are let alone claim responsibility for it.

Whoever did this is probably some kid(s) who never had a girlfriend.

  8. LOL, the Iranian muslim fundies are butthurt that China is cracking down on its own muslim fundies.

  9. They hacked the website and the languages used are English and arabic, But no Chinese. They were smart enough to hack the site, but not smart enough to know that their target audience reads Chinese.

  10. HI I AM BAAAAAAAAAACKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!
WELL, sounds to me that this was chinese university students doing. Why the heck would any iranian hack such a shitty search engine like baidu, it would have been serious shit if it were google, but baidu, who gives a damn. SOME CHINESE COMPUTER GAME FANATIC DID THIS.

    • YOU ARE A REEEEEEEEEEEETARD!

Go and find out which company has its fingers in the Baidu pie.

I am so ashamed to be the same species as you.

Maybe you should do as one of the MOP readers did and forcefully insert your stool.

    • If it were Chinese students, they would have claimed themselves USA or maybe Japan.

  11. Food for thought. Could this have been students in Iran doing this to draw attention to the problems of the anti government citizens being arrested and killed in jail? I support anyone who would help the people of Iran fighting the sadistic government. Like several people said, makes no sense to hack baidu, but maybe that is the plan to make the chinese people think.

  12. I think this is going to be funny.
The 5th Iranian website: http://www.hrmbook.ir/ has been attacked by Chinese hackers.

  13. “Where are China’s hackers?”
    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA…wait…
    HAHHAHAHAHHAHA
ok, ok I’m finished. China’s hackers are still busy doing “amazing” things like being hired by people to hack accounts on QQ or message boards. SOOOOO AMAZING. Seriously, if your hackers spend all day breaking into things that you could just brute force yourself, there’s nothing you can really unofficially do against cyber attacks like this. China’s computer people are nothing to write home about.

  14. “9:49 [am], still cannot get on…forcefully inserting my stool here, waiting to watch the show.”

This is the most disturbingly hilarious translation I have ever read.

  15. There is no logic to this attack. Iran and China are allies, China are building infrastructure over there in addition to helping them with arms tech.

The only reasonable conclusion is that they did it because they could – Baidu is huge in China, the world’s biggest net audience, and any hacker would want to bring it down purely for the prestige.

    • I think it’s not that simple.

Yes, the Chinese government and Chinese government do some work together, but, assuming this attack was not coordinated by the gov’t (which I severely doubt it was), I can think of many good reasons why certain Iranians might dislike China (misplaced dislike for the Chinese government).

Chinese-backed infrastructure projects are pretty controversial in many countries because the people feel that they are getting no benefit from them, while their leaders get rich.

Feel free to also factor in Islam. China is not exactly the US when it comes to problems with Islam, but it certainly has its own issues in that regard.

And they may just be opportunists. I don’t think security is the forte of a lot of Chinese net companies.

    • you may be right

  16. Thanks to Iranian Hacker team.congratulations. Greeting from RUSSIA.

    Dumbass Chinese people.., haha

  17. What Iranian cuber army did was not hacking; but. loneliness.

  18. This is nothing compared with Chinese hackers. Chinese hackers even hack US embassy computers and keep everything hidden (paid by government, maybe…lol)

  19. well as an iranian it was funny to see some racist comments insulting our people as uncultered from chinese!comeone! you eat dogs!atleast we iranians are a rare breed, what about you ?1 out of 5 people is chinese,we all know what happens in mass production of that scale!
I should also inform you that language you see there is not arabic it is farsi ,we use similar alphabet, like ueropeans have similar alphabet
since the iranian flag with islamic republic sign has been put there it is for sure a group supporter of the regime or someone who wanted it to seem so,because anti government regime use the flag without that sign in the midle, but why they would do that, iran and chinese goverment have good relations, i guess somebody has tried to cause some troubles there,or a hacker or some hackers have had some fun

  20. Guys…don’t be misled…its the US CIA that is doing all this stuff to break the good relationship between US and Iran.

Who on earth will name something like iran cyber army..its too obvious…if i was a hacker…i put my name or my groups name…why would i say….US cyber army…its soo not cool

  21. baidu got again hacked i was jsut told. if you go on baidu and search “W” and go tot he 2nd page everything is a porno website viral ad.

also it seems like the new thing to say although it has been river crabbed id the phrase “非法献花” illegal flower tribute. sooo hilarious

here’s the website to its backround http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illegal_flower_tribute

    this is f’in hilarious

  22. Iranian(I)Cyber(C)Army (A) ICA = CIA DUH! Likely a retaliation for the Google incident to show 2-way vulnerabilites exist.

  23. I suppose, if this is real Iranian hackers doing, they are so fuckkingly st00pid.

If they are at war with US or something, an alliance will strenghten, not making another enemy like this.

but yes, in reality, arabs r dumb, you could never know what is inside dumb minds

  24. this passage was translated to english from a persian site :
    Chinese Search Engine failure
Chinese Search Engine Baidu another goal of the Cyber army clip it to work. This practice questions about the motive wave of hackers to create. owever, some speculations Qdrtnmayy army of cyber tale was. Facebook NET with the same domain Baidu was attacked and hackers to new server and change the first page of Facebook was. Although Facebook NET domain is not active, but that with respect to the home are on a server, once again the power of cyber army showed.

  25. Lv_3【网-今天你网了吗?】:

i am sure if they went on alibaba they could find the missiles they want , some one in shenzhen will have a few with great discount and free ems post.

  26. I agree with your assessment at the bilateral void of official reaction. It is indeed striking that two nations who normally subject their respective populations to overwhelming control, should suddenly find themselves at a loss for words at such an act of open defiance (that affects both nations), but targeting one that they would least expect. The confused spread of Chinese reactions too are telling. No one yet quite knows how to even look at this, much less how to deal with it. Some Chinese offer congratulations while others demand retaliation. In other words, even the netizens whose opinions are generally polarized, don’t know which pole they’re looking at. If there was ever a situation for the internet analogous to a deer getting caught in the headlights, this was it. A truly remarkable moment, LOL…

  27. It was on CCTV9 this morning. Not the lead story, but not the last one either.

  28. It will screw up everyone with a gmail account if they start to block access to google services.

  29. That’s awesome. Did it used to have a layout like Baidu in the PRC or was it 3rd party?

  30. This is why my wife has her computer, and I have mine. I don’t want any of that stuff on my computer.

  31. Yes, I also caved and bought my wife a laptop after I got fed up with her programs slowing down my computer with viruses. The Chinese programs don’t work well on english windows. . Even major programs like Chinese QQ are full of adware and virus’ and near impossible to uninstall on english windows.

  32. i didnt say we are a arce i said people and so you know most of chinese are Han and they recognise themself as a race and i again didnt talk about chinese race so maybe you should wake up and read it again, and it seems to me you have a sickness to answer to all comments you read, why dont you tell us where are you from that doesnt seem an achievement to you?
anyhow when people say shit about us maybe i should remind them of their own house?or maybe you need to answer all comments in here as a part of personal duty?huh dude? chill out!you are not even chinese if that is your picture
