San Bruno Explosion Prophesizes Chinese Victory Over Japan

On September 9th, a massive explosion caused by a ruptured gas pipeline rocked the town of San Bruno, California, USA. Having destroyed 37 homes, injured 52 people and claimed the lives of at least six residents, the damage caused by this accident is so extensive that California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger had requested federal aid for disaster relief. To emphasize the extent of the destruction at a press conference the day after, Fire Chief Dennis Haag called the explosion “pretty devastating” and that the affected neighborhood “[looked] like a moonscape”.

This extremely loud gas explosion that some residents had mistaken for an earthquake was accompanied by an equally enormous fire that had at times reached heights of 90 meters (300 feet). Some of these fireballs have been caught on media, including the one pictured here. To witness such a phenomenon of unbridled power one may be in awe of the primal force of fire; conversely, one may be touched with sympathy and compassion for the victims of this horrible incident.

However, if you are Chinese and see the above picture, you may have another image in mind: that of the country of China. That said, such a comment would only come from a citizen not proud of his country, for a nationalistic Chinese full of pride for his homeland may see something very specific: China as a rooster pecking away at a worm above it. What makes this the vision of a proud Chinese is what the worm represents: the country of Japan.

Note from Fauna: This Mop post and these netizen comments were posted on September 9th only a few days after the Chinese fishing boat collided with Japanese Coast Guard in the waters near Diaoyu Islands, and many days before the detained fishing boat captain was released.

From Mop:

The Strange Appearance That Fell From Heaven: Explosion at American Airport Foretells Chinese “Rooster” Will Peck the Japanese “Worm”

On September 9th in the evening local time, an explosion occurred near San Francisco International Airport in which many buildings were set afire and a nearby gas station was surrounded by the tall flames. Households affected by the fire have already been evacuated, and local authorities are currently investigating whether or not this incident was caused by a natural gas pipeline fracture.

Among the many thoughts that run through one’s head upon looking at this picture of the scene, one that sticks out is “A strange appearance fell from Heaven, the Chinese rooster pecks the Japanese little worm”. Could [it mean that] little Japan is going to be held accountable for tyrannizing our Diaoyu Islands and colliding with our fishing boat?

Well, if the following test tells anything…

Go to US version of Google that automatically tries to guess your search, start typing “made in japan crap”, Google can’t guess the last word that you are trying to type, you have to type all four letters of the word “crap”, but if you do the same thing for China, “crap” comes up as soon as you hit only “cr” for the last word of the search.

Here in the US we try not to buy anything of importance that is made in china, even though we still have lots of Wal-Marts. The toilet bowl brush I bought from Target is actually made in china, I’m fine with that, but I refuse to buy my thermos from china. All the thermos Starbucks carries are made in china, I searched and searched, and found that Tiger Corp’s thermos are specifically stated to be made in Japan. Yes!!

    • j lo

I hear these comments all the time. Yet, the whole world still buys and blame the poor quality on China. If Walmart and Target and Walmart wants things made cheap and do not want quality, China will do it. Blame the American Quality Control department for that. Obviously, no one gives a f@#$ because the factories in China are still humming and Americans are out of work because there are no factory jobs. 3 out of 10 Americans are on government assistance. College grads are living at home because there are no jobs. BTW, I would never buy an American car because they’re unreliable. That’s why Americans won’t buy American. China can make high quality goods, but Walmart doesn’t want to pay.

      • Sunni

        My comment was too short.

      • Something Something

China can make quality goods Walmart doesnt want to pay? I’ve been given gifts of so-called Chinese famous branded products, from nice fountain pens to suits. They’ve all performed terribly and taken more maintenance than my Chevy ever did (and that’s saying something). Any country is perfectly capable of putting more time and effort into it’s products and their development. China at this point is simply not doing so and the business climate and work culture are completely opposed to this. When the price of their goods gets within reach of a foriegn brand’s target market it is immediately swatted down. To say that they won’t someday is preposterous, but to say that they can now is equally so.

        • jlo

      • Hypocrisy

actually, the japanese government thru their prime ministers have apologised to china several times for WW2 suffering and the nanking massacre.

the disagreement is whether 300,000 died or 150,000, the former being the chinese position while the latter is e japanese estimate. both sides do have a joint scholastic working group working on this very issue but politics always take the front seat.

the western allies believe at least 150,00 people died but could not determine if the higher estimate is correct since the whole area was in tumult and people were all over the place – many fled and then again, many took refuge in nanjing.

in any case, even 150,000 people massacred over several weeks is amongst the worst atrocities in human history. it’s a terrible stain on the japanese people commited by a group of hardline ultra-nationalist racist fascist militarists.

mankind need to guard itself from ever committing such Genocide again. ultra-nationalism, fascism, racism and religious extremism all lead to death and destruction everywhere and everytime.

i see a goat with a fat ass and no back legs trying to nibble some nice grass just out of reach. with no back legs, it cannot do it. japan is safe is the only conclusion which is good news for the clean toilets in japan not to mention the good sushi and beer. stay away from japan, china. you will only ruin a very nice place. at least clean yourselves up first before thinking of invading someone else. replacing japanese culture in japan with chinese culture would be like replacing the cutest, cleanest girl in the world with a giant, crazy lady, with poop in her pants. stop this lunatic hatred of japan. you all seem like crazed mental hospital patients with deranged hatred. i’m very sorry about ww2 tragedy. japan got destroyed for it eventually so they suffered greatly too. they got dominated and had no military power at all. yet look how fast they rebuilt. did they sit around crying about destruction of japan? are they crying today that america should die? nope. they built one of the great modern societies along with america and europe. every japanese city except kyoto was fire bombed to the dirt and two cities got atom bombed. the entire japanese military was surrendered while 5 million of their citizens died in ww2. within 20 years they had bullet trains and olympics. their rebuild of japan from 1945 to 1960 is far more impressive than the world teaching china how to build out modern china. let go of the hatred. it’s not healthy. gives you heart burn and gray hair. makes you poop hot mustard. and just hands off japan, china boys. you’re going to ruin another good thing. farting and burping and spitting is normal behavior in china. let’s not replace japan with that behavior, okay? they don’t eat dog and cat in japan. they don’t kill all the sharks in the world so they can have shark fin soup while tossing the rest of the shark back into the ocean. their fishing captains to ram china navy boats and get the world upset about possible countries fighting because one moron fishing boat captain made some really moron decisions. japanese wash their hands after they take a poop. they have really good pornography. they understand the concept “wait your turn in this organized line”. there is nearly no crime in tokyo. a beautiful girl can walk any where, any time, and she will be safe. it’s rare to see garbage their. they do not have food poisoning. they have to smell your pollution every day. maybe that could be your revenge for now. but just admit that mao blew it too back in the day. if he had fought japan first instead of making chiang fight mao and japan at the same time, china would never had been taken over by japan. it’s not all japan’s fault. mao didn’t exactly help chiang first fight the japanese before then fighting each other for power. mao also is to blame for nanjing and other tragedies. he didn’t exactly help chiang first fight the japanese, did he? mao watched nanjing. he could have helped. think about that as you see stupid fire photos and actually see a rooster eating a worm. wtf? crazy ass china. gotta love them. i love crazy ass china. but please don’t ever think about invading another country before really cleaning up yourself first. when every chinese person washed their hands after they poop, then you can invade japan. but by that time, you will be too busy enjoying life to care much about japan. because wasn’t it mao who said, “one who cleans his hands after poop, is a successful man with no war on his mind.”

Because Mao is Chinese. And he didn’t actually kill 30 million people, famine and drought killed people during his rule. And to be fair, everyone has killed people at some point.

          • Peter

With respect, dim mak, it was Mao’s policies that, at the very least, exacerbated, if not, caused the droughts and famine. Plus, his lack of concern for the people dying was inhuman. In addition, the madness of the Cultural Revolution was neither drought nor famine, but murderous thuggery.

BTW are you saying that it’s one rule for non-Chinese and another for Chinese ?

You’re right, every nation HAS killed people at some point, which is why picking on one nation for it is wrong. I was just pointing up the hypocrisy in the position of 大 李 飞 刀 .

That being said the statements of ipeedaily were ridiculous too, particularly the bit about sharks – the Japanese hunt and kill whales which are a protected species.

          • Jeremy

dim mak, he had a policy to kill songbirds, which in turn lead to a famine caused by an unopposed swarm of crop devouring insects. Mao is a greater murderer than you think. Yes, he didn’t kill 30 million people.

            He killed 65 million.

        @jlo:

        “China invaded no one.”

Perhaps you don’t know what the definition of an empire is?

Modern genocidal acts may be defined by the way that machine warfare has allowed us to organize such acts on a scale scarcely imagined before, but I think it’s also defined by how modern media gives us access to the act–pictures, movie/video footage, re-enactment, etc–in such a way as to preserve the feeling of immediacy. I often wonder about all of history’s terrible atrocities (read a few books on ancient history and read between the lines) which haven’t been recorded in such indelible, blow-for-blow fashion. Perhaps if you were willing to reexamine Chinese history a bit more carefully you’d find yourself unable to cast China as an innocent who had committed crimes against no one.

        Victim, yes; innocent, no.

And before you attempt to deflect my humble suggestion with the usual ‘whataboutism’, yes, there doubtlessly does not exist a single modern or ancient world power that can be cast as a “blameless innocent” on the stage of world conflict.

a fine rant, spot on my friend.

” replacing japanese culture in japan with chinese culture would be like replacing the cutest, cleanest girl in the world with a giant, crazy lady, with poop in her pants. ” – AWESOME

” within 20 years they had bullet trains and olympics. their rebuild of japan from 1945 to 1960 is far more impressive than the world teaching China how to build out modern china. let go of the hatred ” – More Awesomeness

China would gain soo much positive pr if it just learned a lil bit about humility.

    • Concerned Citizen

Your English is terrible. You are writing chunks of rubbish. I suggest you practise writing English elsewhere.

Brush up your English before you write the next time.

      • dilladonuts

lol, lol, lol, before you ask someone to brush up on his/hers english, you might want to learn how to spell practice.

        • dilladonuts

hmm, i guess its just an american thing, nevmind.

          • Concerned Citizen

You are a crap. So disgusting!

          • Concerned Citizen

You are a real crap. You don’t even know which one is which.

  • jlo

Mommy, what happened to grandma and grandpa? Well son, when the Japanese evaded the countryside, grandma was raped and beheaded and grandpa was just tortured then beheaded.

    F!@#k You! Get over it!

    • jlo

Why don’t you tell all the Vietnam Vets with the highest suicide rate of any war to get over. I hope you live a long life so that you can check if the Iraqis ever got over it. I’m telling you that for some, it’s not so easy.

    • mimi

But also with today’s media, memories of these kinds of events last for far longer than they would have done before the advent of widespread printed media, photography, films, the internet etc when after a few generations those involved would have passed away.

Also, when you have a country trying to divert attention away from it’s own past (where far more people were killed), the government is going t maintain those memories for the citizens. Anti-Japanese rhetoric should not be encouraged by the CCP. Anyti-any sodding country shouldn’t. I lose count each week of how many times China gets offended by some ‘foreign’ nation because China is different and special.

In this China/Japan fisherman things – so what? China detained Vietnamese fishermen for 5 months last year. But Chinese fishermen being detained is different because China is special/important/fagile/sensitive/strong/rich/powerful/gay/xenophobic.

  • Sunni

    Sure, in other threads.

In this thread, however, where a picture concerning only a ball of fire is displayed, netizens are up to their usual shenanigans.

The only thing I can say is that the netizens of MOP cannot be a generalization of the Chinese people. Just as ChinaSmack cannot be a generalization of the whole Chinese internet community. This website only gets its “interesting” articles from forums such as Mop and TianYa, which if you have visited yourself, you will know are anything but “nice”. They are like the equivalent of 4chan for North America.

    • Bob

ChinaSmack comments tend to reflect terribly on the laowais.

      • Sunni

        Maybe you should ask Fauna.
She obviously only picks the most controversial threads to post on here. I can only speculate as to why.

    Dear black people

About Slavery: GET OVER IT. Damn.

    • jlo

Thank you! You bring up a good point. The year Roots aired on TV in the United States, White boys were getting their ass kicked all over schools by black people. Some White people didn’t even want to come to school. Some tried to be Black to fit in so they didn’t get jacked in the halls. Slavery happened way before WW2 and the tension was still there. But that was 20 years ago! I guess we now have racial harmony in United States now. Why is there still Affirmative Action?

    • j

nah man, can you just drop a bomb on this rooster? i like em crispy.

      • Chef Rocco

j, you meant A-bomb? No way, we have seen what happened to the worm with that by Chef Uncle…

        • Ted

Where are you a chef at? KFC? McD’s? CSC?

    • Jeremy

How to make chicken soup out of China:

      Hit the Three Gorges Dam

      75 million downstream will die
Agricultural output will drop drastically, and for years to come
Power shortage will weaken China’s military, open for attacks
Humanitarian crisis will stretch monetary and medical reserves to maximum
Also, all that weight near a fault line, suddenly all pressure is released wonder what will happen…

I’m surprised the Chinese haven’t taken that grim fact into account.

  • Simon

    marvalous chinese minds!

I think he means move on, not “forget it ever happened”. I must say most of the counter-examples given here have been more progressive than the Asian powers have been when it comes to WW2.

  • Chef Rocco

The fireball is too small to show that also there is a huge bear trying to smash the worm.

Medvedev has plan to visit Kurile island. Obviously China has changed its previous stance in regards to the dispute and will support Russia in exchange for Russia’s support for its claim to Diaoyu islands, an interesting development…

  • 楚留臭

For those who were yelling “get over it!”, can you tell the same thing to the Hawke family in Cheshire USA?
In this incident, the father who is a doctor was serious injured while his wife and daughter were raped then killed, and his house was burnt down after that by the two criminals who robbed them! Can you blame the Hawke family and that it was their fault because they were too weak or too pathetic to defend themselves against the criminal? Or these criminals should be arrested prosecuted and hung!
It is always easy to say “get over it” when yourself is not the victim!

    • The Regulator

That’ll be the horrific crime committed over seventy years ago in which the descendants of the Hawke family refused to listen to the apologies of the murderer’s descendants and turned down financial reparations from them, whilst meanwhile they turned on each other, starving the poorer members of the Hawke family to death, and hounding the educated members of the Hawke family half to death? All before the most fashionable descendants of the murdered Hawkes started copying the murderer’s descendants fashion and tastes?

Yeah they should probably get over it.

    • Vukodlok

Time for Japa to get the nuclear bomb and rape nanking again. It wasn’t war crime the first time around – just teaching the chinamen where they stand in the world pecking order.

    • Jlo

I think it’s the other way around. Japan needs the Chinese economy. The economy is so bad over there that the elderly have resorted to petty theft. China has rare earths like the Middle East have oil. China’s government just set drastic limits on exports of rare earth minerals. If you want to build computers, cell phones or anything electronics, rare earth minerals are at play. Japan sent a delegation to China to plead for a change in such policies. The delegation left disappointed. Check out some rare earth stocks and see how high it is flying. China’s nuclear weapons have always been for defense and not offense. Other governments will have to think twice about starting wars with China. When China sent a missile up in space a few years ago to shoot down their dead satellite, that was a message to the world that they can. Who really wins in wars anyway? This is geo-politics not the Olympics.

      • xmcx

But quite unlike oil, rare earth metals can be recycled after use!Yay!

    • Peter

Octavian – that’s just nasty and racist.

I personally think that the Chinese hatred for all Japanese people (even though most of the Japanese War Criminals are dead and gone) is too much. But being an idiot like you are being is ludicrous.

  • mrsleep

Judging from these comments, the Chinese seem to be just like the Nazi’s.

People who are overwhelmingly in favor of genocide are disgusting.

    To: ipeedaily

You are a confused soul, on’s cleaniness does not equate moral or ethical practice. Japan is a developed country for over a hundred years while China is still developing.

Japan each years hunted thousands of whales and other mammals of the sea (higher intelligent than predatorial shark)

Japanese simply take from the sea, import high quality earth’s resources from around with their high consumerism at the expense of the world (ie. woods and food).

Japanese are well known for POLITENESS but NOT FRIENDLINESS. Think deeply what is the different between the two.

From the tone and style of your language, I assume you’re brainwashed by Japanese popular cultures. Stereotyping Chinese and Japanese.

How would you feel if these “clean” and “polite” Japanese invade your country (wherever you’re from), kill and rape your family?

    • John1909

Every I begin to have faith in my fellow human being I return to this site and smell the coffee. I’ve lived in both Japan and China, I’ll be returning to China very soon, to work, and before you ask if you care it’s not to take advantage but to assist in open access to university education for Chinese students, which is horribly unfair in China. My point is that both countries are great. The sins of the father are not the sins of the son, and you’ll only end up worse if you don’t just accept that time passes. I’m English and have no ill feeling towards any German, those in power at that time, those individuals at that time, yes, I’d want to kill them…but to feel that now is futile and pathetic…hate against Japan is not China’s strength, it just bitter manipulate pride and weakness…stop it your being daft…I’m actually feeling depressed about speaking to intelligent young Chinese who waste their minds on this shit…look at your government, look at your fellow Chinese, if you see them suffer now, who is to blame?

    • Jeremy

      To Tristan:

“Japan each years hunted thousands of whales and other mammals of the sea (higher intelligent than predatorial shark)”

Yeah, and China turns anything with a pulse into a “delicacy.” What’s your point?

“Japanese simply take from the sea, import high quality earth’s resources from around with their high consumerism at the expense of the world (ie. woods and food).”

You mean China right? They consume more resources than the Japanese.

“Japanese are well known for POLITENESS but NOT FRIENDLINESS. Think deeply what is the different between the two.”

If recent history is any indicator, the Chinese don’t really know either one of those.

  • Nong

Chinese victory against Japan is unnecessary, why? Because you have already won! Chinese ideas of peace and judging people on the content of their character are superior to judging people on their ethnicity or their nation.
    Minnie Vautrin Fan,
    Peace!

    • Jeremy

Uhhh, did you see the article about Chinese racism towards Lou Jing for being half African? China is a land where you will face discrimination if you are not Han Chinese. Chinese ideas of peace and judging people on the content of their character DOES NOT EXIST.

If anything, China and Japan being made out of a fire would be a Chinese strike on Japan, and a multinational strike on China. So many regional enemies and so many weak spots in the Chinese infrastructure. Shameful belligerence.

  • Ha-Ha

But it has no Taiwan pictured? why arent they upset about that?

    • tdo

Because their ship captain didn’t collide with a Taiwanese fishing boat off the coast of the island in dispute.

  • bert

Victory? Victory over what? Are they at war now? Ridiculous title.

  • Name

China is beginning to act like a bully. Despite their current economy, they’re still whining like a wuss about the second world war.

  • tdo

Patriotism so easily degrades into fantastical whimsy and hateful invective like this. After all, what is patriotism but being proud of the accomplishments of those around you into which you contributed absolutely nothing?

The fact is, these sentiments expressed here by Chinese people can be found or heard spouted by unenlightened people in any country, America included.

  • JJ

All this post shows is the Chinese people’s insecurity. Their hatred has degraded their sense of rationalism so much that they are now relying on wishful thinking and superstition. Funny enough, the picture can be interpreted in other ways. One is that the rooster is worshiping the worm, bowing below it. Another is that it is eating crap the worm dumps on it. Not surprisingly, none of these alternative forms of interpretation have shown up in the post.

As a Chinese person, I am often appalled at what my fellow Chinese people have become in the face of senseless hatred and blind patriotism.

  • es ef fon.. LOL

pride will be china’s downfall. what kind of country prides itself over defeating a country 1/50th its size? shouldn’t a rooster kill a worm with ease? if it’s so easy, why not show mercy? isn’t it better to be prideful about being a noble country that forgives? a humble country that shows mercy? i’ll tell you what, western countries will show much more respect if china “turns the other cheek.” for sure, people in US and south america will notice christian values in chinese values, and respect china.

  • Ambientman

I thought this place was different. But my comments have disappeared. Just like any other stupid Chinese site. Fuck this place, on to better places. Leave the comments alone, cause I’ve seen far worse than mine.

Liu Xiaobo would not be too pleased with this joke of a site. Censorship is totally prevalent. Fuck whomever censored my words!

Obviously, that’s because you are the smartest person alive. Our poor Chinese minds can not comprehend that kind of advanced rhetorics.
