America Sells Arms to Taiwan, Chinese Netizen Reactions

From China.com:

About America Selling Arms to Taiwan

America is a country where politics serve economics. Actually, Americans don’t have any broad political goals. Their behavior, to phrase it colloquially, appears to be very realist; of course, it’s because they do things serving their own interest that it seems realist.

To a businessperson, profit is prestige. Without profit you have no prestige, and it is like this for America, their prestige comes from their profit. To a businessperson, even if it’s just a small trickle of profit it’s important. Even if this tiny profit will cause them to offend others, generally they will still take it, and restore relations with the offended parties later, if they think it’s worth it. America is also like this.

For Americans, it serves great national interest to make things go poorly between [Mainland] China and Taiwan. In the context of modern global security, possibly no one would dare to be fighting battles and ultimately having a [military] showdown, so struggles take the bloodless forms of attempting to change culture, politics, economics, etc. [Struggles also manifest through] trying to keep one’s own country stable while trying to make the opposing nation unstable. In chaos there is profit, and perhaps in chaos the opposition can be undermined. This is just like the way the US treated the Soviet Union.

America is selling arms to Taiwan again. As far as we’re concerned, this is old, stinking news; what is America’s meaning [in doing this]?

The US is stirring up new conflict between the two shores [i.e., China and Taiwan]. [America is saying,] you can talk, but talking is only talking, you can’t get too close and definitely can’t unify, because that wouldn’t be in the best interests of us Americans.

It’s been sixty years, Taiwan is a painful spot that is difficult for our nation to hide; for many reasons, the Taiwan problem has never been resolved. Now we’ve come to the best time ever for cross-strait relations, but the Americans’ behavior has once cast a dark shadow [over the progress], can we just allow this to take its course?

In truth, I personally feel that America can sell as many weapons to Taiwan as it wants, all that it takes is for us to be willing and those weapons are ours. Didn’t America once give us [China] many weapons via Chiang Kai-Shek? The Nationalist Party has never been able to accomplish anything great, to say nothing of the Democratic Progressive Party. Those in current Taiwanese political circles aren’t qualified politicians , they’re just mediocre people who’ve taken on politics as a profession, what can they ever change? Look at that Chen Shuibian. Are you independent? Isn’t that your political ideology? Not only is [Taiwan] not independent, he’s eaten up an enormous sum of the Taiwanese people’s money!

So, Taiwan has no talented administrators; Americans selling them weapons is useless. America cannot stop the unification of Taiwan. When the unification happens will be decided by China. We don’t fear war, [but] we hope to use great sincerity to peacefully unify Taiwan. After all, the ‘brothers’ on either side [of the strait] are not strangers. If Taiwan is incited by the Americans, and ignores the feelings of the people and goes against common sense, then the weapons will have to come out.

Taiwan, don’t naively think that you can divide up the family, this family you cannot separate from!

America, don’t naively think that you can split up China, you don’t have the skill. Moreover, don’t think that the Chinese people won’t bear a grudge, the Chinese are the best in the world at bearing grudges. If you don’t fear retribution, keep making trouble, if you don’t, it would be so boring!

I think we can retaliate against America!

Netizen comments from China.com:

袖里乾坤:

Ding, support!

看风向吧:

America has already learned the lesson: making endless concessions to China can only further intensify it, make it refuse democracy, and become enemies with the world. When weighing the balance between democracy and economy, Americans finally decided that the value of democracy was much greater than the value of the economy! Otherwise, they would have avoided FDR’s serious postwar mistake with China! Now we’ve come to the time of restoring the original spirit!

北冥教主 [in response to the above comment]:

American democracy isn’t valuable, it isn’t real democracy!

hygry:

Taiwan’s doing it as insurance, America’s doing it for money. [In Taiwan] they have permanent property ownership rights, [if they] come back it changes to seventy-year use rights, and [houses] can be torn down at any time. Consider it, what would you think?

正压邪:

In the past thirty years, China has already become a country that’s only looking for money.

一叶戏秋风:

I personally feel that America can sell as many weapons to Taiwan as it wants, all that it takes is for us to be willing and those weapons are ours.

Chairman Mao was a great leader, and everyone remembers him fondly, but today’s politicians? When they step down, who will remember them fondly?

Netizen comments on a news story about the arms sales on Netease:

网易四川攀枝花网友:

Everyone must rethink this, if you were Taiwanese, would you want river crabs?

网易辽宁大连网友:

We don’t need to fear America selling arms to Taiwan, as soon as a war started these advanced weapons would be quickly consumed by our lower-quality but numerous weapons and many soldiers. But I can’t bear to see my own people injured and murdered; as to Taiwan, I’m not sure if I love it or hate it.

网易广东珠海网友:

An enterprise seeking profit, what’s wrong with that?

网易浙江宁波网友:

These arms are all defensive weapons, for example right now, they’re selling Taiwan patriot [defensive missiles], not F-16 [fighter jets].

网易浙江杭州网友:

A dog says loudly, America is our hope. A pig hears and laughs. The dog doesn’t understand and asks why did you laugh. The pig says, your head must have been slammed in a door, because you sound like an ass.

网易广东深圳网友 [in response to the comment above]:

America is humanity’s hope. The guy above me isn’t even as good as a dog.

网易河北石家庄网友:

As long as America exists, the world cannot be peaceful.

网易重庆渝中网友 [in response to the comment above]:

I only know that without America, the whole world would be chaotic.

  1. on one side of my balls is china & on the other is america. now imagine that each side of my balls are being sucked by your mothers. my shit is gonna explode in your face as you watch.

  2. Err so US is selling Taiwan arms to pay back China? No wait what…

  3. this could be the beginning of ww3. it will be the u.s., taiwan, japan, s korea, india, uk, and australia vs. china, russia, and n korea? you see? at the end of the day taiwan has more friends and more powerful friends who would defend independence and democracy than china.

  4. Really? So, let me get this straight. In this WW3 scenario, rather than busily running about shooting drafted Chinese ‘comrades’ in the back for deserting the Communist regime, you’d spend all your time hunting for some white guys having a fondle?

Hmmm… Is this really a wise strategy?

  5. China is masking a huff testing the Obama administration. The tone from Washington seems quite standoffish since the Google incident. I can see more conflicts such as this and the Obama-Dali Lama meeting occurring. Washington seems deliberate in remindg the world who wears the pants in the sino-american relationship. Although the US military may be a bit stretched as the transition from Iraq to Afghanistan occurs it is in fact the most experienced army around aside from its obvious technological advantages.

  6. what a shame. I see idiot chinese making stupid comments, but when i see westerners making the same stupid comments i am disappointed. China is a cancer. they have no workers rights, no social support system, no soul. Stop confusing the people with the government. I have many chinese friends, but i seperate them from a government that uses force, coersion, propaganda, and nationalism to subjugate their own people as well as as those in many other conutries. Stop blaming america. How many americans are still in iraq compared to how many chinese are in darfur? Stupid liberal assholes!

  7. China is not really angry that America is selling arms to Taiwan. More likely China is angry that America is not selling the most advanced weapons to Taiwan, so that the pro-China spies in Taiwan can steal the weapons’ secrets.

  8. I find it more than a little ironic that China is making a huff and puff over this issue. After all, weren’t they more than happy to sell arms to Sudan while the whole Darfur thing was going on? Same with them shipping weapons to Zimbabwe (and shipping handlers in South Africa refused to unload the cargo). If they are willing to sell to any amoral government then they shouldn’t whine if someone else sells arms to someone they object to.

  9. Trains, planes, cars, rockets, telescopes, tires, telephones, radios, television, electricity, atomic energy, computers, and fax machines. All miracles made possible by the minds and spirits of men with names like Ampere, Bell, Caselli, Edison, Ohm, Faraday, Einstein, Cohen, Teller, Shockley, Hertz, Marconi, Morse, Popov. Ford, Volta, Michelin, Dunlop, Watt, Diesel, Galileo, and other “fat ass white caucasians”.

The Chinese didn’t take gunpowder much beyond firecrackers and pyrotechnics. It’s true that China lead the world in technology and commercial inventiveness about 1,000 years ago. They had great coal-mining operations, gunpowder, six-masted sailing ships, and intense commercial enterprise. But it all collapsed because the elites, the long-nailed Mandarins, centralized control–1,000 years before Mao–and crushed the expansion and inventions.

  10. All modern inventions are just derivatives of electricity, mechanic and chemistry foundations. It’s easy to invent when the West is rich and stable while China is in turmoil from Mongol, Manchurian and Western incursion. Recent explosion of invention such as trains, planes and the rest mentioned above (starting 200 years ago) are a result of momemtum.

Without paper, the West can’t spread knowledge to the masses. Without gunpowder, the West can’t conquered the New World defended by tribes with sticks and stones. Without compass, the West can’t navigate with certainty to “Rediscovering” the New World.

    • There is no point to brag about China’s 5000 or whatever year’s of history. The past is the past.
The Western world is clearly more advanced than China. That’s why you have the concept of Industrialized nations vs developing nations, which China in the later group.

Looking ahead though, it’s also pretty clear that China will excel in areas of science. If you have gone through some higher education in the US, you will find that almost half of all grad school and phd students to be Chinese. The US corporations will have the first pick to retain these talents, but with the US economy slowing down and Sinophobia rising more of these students will return to China along with their knowledge and experience.

In the past, Chinese companies have been behind international competition. In areas like renewable energy China is becoming a clear leader. You will see more of that coming in the future.

  11. time to nuke china

  12. From the ashes rises the son of Fcuk Da Lu Ren!!! Vengence against the infadel Chimatrons must be made!! Their douschetastic comments will be accepted NO LONGER!!

    SOFDLR 万岁万岁万万岁!

  13. Today’s headlines in China Daily:

Beijing FURIOUS at arms sales to Taiwan
US Forces China to Boost Defense budget

“What the US did this time will further impede possible improvements in their relationship, and the US hopes to learn more about China, its biggest competitor, through exchanges and communication,” Guo said.

Can you please explain to me how exactly is China the U.S.’s biggest competitor and in what area. I think the Chinese really need to re evalute just where they are in the world stage.

Its great to talk tough, but when the final decision comes to push the button, they WILL back down. If they really felt they were the biggest competitor, they would have taken TW back by now…

The reality is, they are a bunch of pontificating, arrogant peasants who have a few toys.

I say we encourage Japan to re militarize and just walk away and see what happens

    • “they would have taken TW back by now…” lol obviously whoever poste this statement is a dumbass because War is more than just invading, their are far more powerful weapons other than WAR and killing innocent people like how the United Stupid Ass did in IRAQ buddy!! Just sit and learn!

  14. @B Real, agree with a lot of what you have to say, and when I say let Japan Re Militarize, I mean come out and say we are going to cut the constrains of the constitution and if you come into the “Dao You” islands you will be met with a fully authorized Japanese military welcoming.

@lol, I tried to understand what the FCUK you were saying but you don’t make sense because you are a bumbling Chi Mate. However, if you look at the Iraq and Aganistan situation you will note the following:

    1. We now have a presence in the middle east smack dab in dune coon central (and yes B REal I agree we should just let them kill themselves, or even better we win, TAKE OIL, but that is the imperialist in me)

    2. Situation subsiding, we had a minimum of causulties, stabilization of the area (Iraq) probably a lot better than that was before we came.

All that to be said I don’t really think we should have bothered in the first place and if we did, we should have just killed everyone and implanted naturalized Mexicans (cheap labor, loves america)

@ B real again. Yes there is a manufacturing sector that has taken a significant bashing since the global (American) economic downturn. I agree, we should tit for tat though. Increase Tariffs to get to the real Chinese dollar value, since they are our “number 1 competitor” SMLOF (shart myself laughing on the floor)

The truth of the matter is China is not powerful enough to really impose anything on anyone, you know what let them sanction, sanction back… Tariffs, eject Chinese spys from U.S. Universities, send a clear message who your daddy is.

  15. First, It’s all defensive weapons.
Second, Its part of completing a contract that was created and signed back in year 2000 by former president Bill Clinton.
If I were anyone complaning right now, I would just be thankful that America didn’t sell Taiwan nukes, A-bombs, and F-16′s.

  16. Lol, Chinasmack is a failure considering its original purpose.

  17. I think ROC and PRC already have secret deal.
ROC gets as much American Tech, then they go, lol we were actually commies, and then CCP can reverse engineer everything.

  18. @ B-Real

The Chinese evolved and civilized long ago before the European learn to eat with their forks and knives. Chinese have been using toilet paper at least a thousand years while the European use their fingers.
I wouldn’t be surprise the other race is even more unsanitary if they were as poor and populated as China.

History tell us every developed countries copies and steal other’s product designs and ideas, only the West are good at hiding their shameful past. China can’t stand the overpriced Western products so they make their own. Keep laughing at China’s products just like the West were laughing at the Japanese inferiority products at one time.

  19. Supplement to “King Tubby”:

Yes, almost forgot the only reason why the European worn all sorts of fake hair and wigs one time in the past was because lice and tick was rampant. The wig was worn to hide the unwashed hair and for some, baldness as a result of constant scratching damaged hair full of lice and tick.

  20. Though I was born in Hong Kong, and my parents are born in Taiwan, I believe in freedom and peace. Freedom of will, want speech and rights is a necessity for any nation, country or person. Yes, the Americans are selling weapons for profit (don’t you sell items to gain money in your own pockets?). But the most important aspect is that history and facts is more important than opinion on wether Taiwan belongs to China. Ever since Chang Kai Shek retreated to Taiwan, there was no agreement or signed bill stating that Taiwan was under the communist rule. Factually, Taiwan belongs to the rule under the current leader (KMT party). Despite the fact that China claims that Taiwan belongs to them, it is best decided by the Taiwanese people collectively and not others for what is best for them. After all, if China has a seat in the UN, shouldn’t they follow the four freedoms the UN was founded and respect it?

  21. If you got the balls, stop whining around here, go ahead and sell the weapons to Iraq, to north Korea, to whoever you think can piss America off. IF you don’t get the balls to do that, then stop screaming , stop putting on the blames on other American companies here, and most of all, stop minding other people and other countries business, maybe you are used to bossing people around in your own country, but somehow i n this world, there are people do not like to be boss around, and no one has the right to tell what shall other people do!

  22. I love this new crop of “foreigners” who are bashing these five mao morons. Gentlemen my father fcuk da lu ren salutes you from the grave!!!

  23. I think it is fair for China to sell missiles to North Korea, Iran, Cuba and Venezuela to anger USA as it did to China.
USA is evil and trouble maker in the world who has killed millions of innocent people in Iraq ,Afghanistan and else where around the world with no blame on them from this civilized world. What a shame on us.
It is time now for China to teach him a lesson this time from now on

  24. Taiwan is the stupidest area in this world to buy the outdated and far more expensive weapons others pay.
No matter how developed weapons, they are finally in the hands of PLA.

  25. Taiwan is the stupidest area in this world to buy the outdated and far more expensive weapons others pay.
No matter how developed weapons, they are finally in the hands of PLA.

  26. China should drop a nuke bomb to Taiwan to resolve the problem once and for all if Taiwan tries every way to deny its origins from China ranging from language, culture, nationality and gold reserve.

  27. Taiwan purchase of overpriced American not-so-advanced defensive weapons is another form of paying for American protection. Besides, the American would never trust anyone especially the Chinese with the latest weapons. I wouldn’t be surprise most of the exported weapons has a built-in homing device that acitivated in a time of conflict with the US. There is a potential that the weapon will self-destruct the minutes China successfully invaded Taiwan and get a hands on those weapons.

    • right.

      read my post below.

It’s rejected second-hand, malfunctioning stuff fronm the Turks, even requiring additional, very cost-intensive repairs by the Taiwanese themselves.

Maybe China should sell the poor NRA some of their equippment, which is not only rather cheap, but also actually working, very reliable and rugged.

      Just for the lulz?

    • If America REALLY wanted Taiwan to stand on its own Taiwan would of had nukes already. Instead in the 70s the US did whatever it could to prevent Taiwan from developing its own nukes. Today the US is still closely monitoring Taiwan’s weapon capabilities. If Taiwan goes for nukes you can bet that the US will join China’s side to bring the program down.

      • You actually think they dont? You bet your ass they do. At least tactical nukes and possibly even ICBMs. They’re not stupid. They’re the sequel to Israel the movie. They know that nukes are simply one more detterent to a big zhong guo boot up their ass.

  28. greatdiwei

    great fenqing or GREATEST fenqing?

    Anyway, I already like you.

In other news; Those weapons sold to Taiwan are overpriced second-hand hardware, rejected stuff from the Turkish Armed Forces, who are even require some additional 100 million USD for maintenance to make them actually work.
Taiwanese military observers and military interested netizens are already raging about it like the fucking angry fist of the north star or something.

    Poor Wanwans; always getting betrayed by everyone – even by your ‘friends’, the Americans… This is why you cant have nice things ;__;

  29. Taiwan is way too poor to develope nuke even with the expertise of the American. Besides, China already successfully detonate their own atomic bomb in the 1960s. What make you think a small island with nuke can wage an all out nuclear war with success? That’s suicidal. China will immediately invade Taiwan the minutes it is in the process of developing an atomic bomb.

It’s not right for a foreigner (ie. American) to intervene on another’s countrie’s civil war. Can’t blame the American wanting to continue the status quo on the benefit of spying of China’s electromagnitic signal from a close distance along the Strait of Taiwan cheapily. China currently at a disadvantage when it come to sea transport of goods and oil as well as in time of war without the control of the Taiwan Strait.

    • It doesn’t take that much money to develop nukes. It takes expertise and more importantly raw materials and parts.

Taiwan started its own nuke program after China in the 60s. By mid 70s the CIA’s planted mole in Taiwan reported that Taiwan will likely to build its nuke in 5 years. This scared the shit of all American politicians over a nuke showdown, so President Ford pressured Taiwan to stop its program.

I am not sure if China would of nuked Taiwan first had Taiwan pursued its nuke program, but the US was clearly afraid of other Asian allies following Taiwan’s footsteps and develop their own weapons. This would certainly diminish US’ influence in the region.

Personally I don’t mind America messing with other countries. Each nation should focus on its own interests before anyone else’s. It serves America’s self interest to keep China at war with Taiwan so of course America will continue to sell weapons to Taiwan and fund the independence movements in China. It’s not a matter of right or wrong.

What I do mind is the hypocrisy behind all of this. America is helping Taiwan because of Democracy? That’s bullshit. America helped Taiwan when it was a brutal dictatorship fresh off killing tens of thousands of natives, just as America helped numerous other dictatorships sometimes even to topple legit democracies. “Freedom” is just another bullshit concept forced on by Western nations to serve in their own self-interest. Iraq needs “freedom”, which is exactly why the US/UK had to bomb the shit out of it. This is also exactly why when Palestinians democratically elected Hamas, you never hear any of the Western world praising “democracy” in Palestine anymore. Instead the Western nations made numerous attempts to punish and destroy Palestine’s democracy.

  30. LOLZ, I agree with your views and facts. Of course I don’t think China will nuke Taiwan with any issues or conflicts in the future, but China will do something extreme knowing Taiwan will likely succeed in becoming indepentant with poccession of nukes.

Historically, the U.S. toppled many foreign leaders who has hostile foreign policy against the American or that country has geostrategic important to the U.S., and then install a puppet leader, doesn’t matter if they are democratically elected.

Many people doesn’t know U.S of America is NOT a DEMOCRATIC country, it is a CONSTITUTIONAL REPUBLIC under capitalist system. Democratic system proves unstable when the Greece tried 2 thousand years ago. That is why the American keeps on promoting democracy around the world.

  31. I find the Taiwanese people are more friendly and civilized not only because they are getting lonier each passing years with more countries shifting to the Mainland China camp… they need as much outsider to support their cause, that is their hidden agenda. Also, Taiwan government didn’t inject as much poisonous grievances of historical baggages and humiliation against foreign incursion as much as China.

Everything has a price tag in contemporary money-crazy China, even friendship. Can’t blame them, who know when the PRC suddenly closed China’s door to the outside world tomorrow.

  32. The reason there’s alot of military hardware in northeast china is because Norinco and Shenyang Aircraft corporation are headquartered there….not because North Korea supplies China with weapons Lol. Seriously B-real the shit you say is fucking ridiculous.

That’s like conjecting “Since you can see alot of military hardware and equipment in California, it’s because Mexico supplies the US

  33. haha, i do love this poorly concield communist party line made to insite feelings, china tiwan don’t want to be part of you get over it !

  34. i find it funny that no one has really defined the argument. Taiwan is free – the people can read what the want, say what they want, learn what they want. They can support their government or they can protest. You can’t do that here in China. It is not USA versus China. It is freedom versus authoritarianism. The most striking thing is when i talk to supposedly the best and the brightest China has to offer, and they all complain about the government and their desire for more freedom and democracy. But, they are the first ones to denounce the arms sale to Taiwan. Just brainwashed fools, thats the best you will find here. Ready to fight for nothing more than nationalistic pride. If you look at history, which so many here are fond of ding, you will see that history has supported the idea that the victor fights for an idea and principle, not land, not a spot on the map. Every time i visit this site, its the same – more fucking retards.

  35. I hate to say it but the big banner of “FREEDOM” is NOT everything in life. Can freedom feeds and cloths billions of poor rural Chinese? Can freedom prevented chaotic and splitting of China with its current poorly educated and rational population? It take China 300 years of decline and Chinese people won’t mind if it takes another 10×30 years (since 1979) of gradual reform and steady openning to ideas of freedom. If China has the longest continuous civilization on Earth for 5000 years with its mantality of how to governed its people, I’m pretty sure China can continue for another 5000 years without freedom. Let see how long can American empire or civilization can last.

I see a trend of gradual authoritorian rule and a tighter grip and control of its citizens in North American each passing years. Let see if system of freedom can manages a population of a billions American in the far future.

    • You’re an idiot.
You actually wish a lack of freedom on the world?
You actually believe that your outlook on life should always be, ‘no, I have no right to know about that information or make that choice, because I am an idiot, I am irrational and it might cause friction in my country?’

Read 1984. And then re-read it, but this time with the idea that it is not describing the futures as the totalitarian paradise of your dreams, but a chilling glimpse of where humanity could easily head.

Yes, the UK invaded Iraq, despite large scale protests against the government. Information was leaked, everyone knew there was no weapons of mass destruction. Blair even went to trial…It didn’t turn into mass riots and a nation of laowais ‘going wild’.I think it’s important that a nation questions its government. They are, after all, just people too, not some celestial beings that have the ability to rain down on the earth like the wrath of Zeus.

  36. Freedom is evrything, it is as vital as breath. If you think otherwise, take a close look at the faces of those around you. Also, the communist government does NOT feed or clothe the billion rural poor in this country. They are forced to leave their homes for large cities where the system forces them to work as slave laborers all for the sake of giving the leaders some economic growth numbers they can spew out in the daily propganda rags. China’s economic succeess in recent years is the result of labor laws that are nothing more than unofficial slavery. You don’t feed the poor, you dont clothe the poor – your system eats away at the souls of the poor. But, some in China are getting very, very, very rich . . . . I wonder who they are? And, I’m sure India (which is the world’s most populous country now) is doing very well with democracy. Are you saying 1.3 billion Chinese can’t do what 1.3 billion Indians are doing as we speak????

    • >>And, I’m sure India (which is the world’s most populous country now) is doing very well with democracy.

      whatthefuckamireading.jpg

    • “Freedom is evrything, it is as vital as breath.”

Jesus fukking christ put down the kool-aid.

If freedom is everything then why the hell do you have so many laowais in China? In the context of Taiwan, some 5-10% of its most educated population are living in China permanently. Why don’t all of them leave?

“You don’t feed the poor, you dont clothe the poor – your system eats away at the souls of the poor.”

Wow, how mighty progressive of cmfeirs. I can hardly believe this is the same cmfeirs who wrote the following on Politico:

“I have taught in China for the last 3 years, and you progressive morons can’t see the horrors of socialized medicine coming your way. Progressives are idiots and have derailed the American dream.” Posted By: cmfeirs | September 10, 2009 at 02:59 AM

Ah yes, progressive policies in China = good. Progressive polices in USA = bad. There you have it, just another two faced hypocrite. And to think I almost regretted bashing foreign english teachers the other day.

  37. The basic logic is no form of government in existence can maintain freedom without achieving FIRST the neccessity of life: Air, water and biological nourishment. One can’t survive without air for a few minutes, water for a few days and food for a few weeks.

Freedom can happen ith a small population and abundant of natural resources such as in the early colonial America, but not starting with a billion people and resources hungry China. The next task after fulfilling one’s stomach is basic educated population. An uneducated citizens will ignore the Rule of Laws set out by the Constitution and eventually freedom of human rights and democracy will break down eventually. Taiwan, Singapore and South Korea are a few example where a strong grip from the government is need early years of its newly formed Constitution and new system of governance.

  38. @cmfeirs, I think you’re a young lad with utopian and simple idealistic view of this world.

First, the Chinese did not force the rural population to look for jobs in the city.

Second, you can’t have the cake and eat it too. With China’s currently situation, “slave labour” wages is a must-go-through initial stages especially with 100 of millions of people vying for jobs. The very riches few are a side-effect of a capitalist-run system.

Yeah, I believed India can achieved great wealth somehow and somewhere in the far future with its demon-crazy and inefficient buraucratic government, probably 10 times longer than China to achieve the same thing.

    • The naiive attitude of most westerners towards developing countries such as China is pretty much like the attitude of Marie Antoinette towards the starving people of Paris during the French Revolution.

“What? Paris’ commoners have no bread to eat? Why wouldnt they simply eat cake instead?”

      nothing new here.

  39. LOLZ

    1. “Freedom is evrything, it is as vital as breath.”

Jesus fukking christ put down the kool-aid.

Only the words of someone who has never experienced Freedom or someone who has never had it taken away.

    2. If freedom is everything then why the hell do you have so many laowais in China? In the context of Taiwan, some 5-10% of its most educated population are living in China permanently. Why don’t all of them leave?

Don’t you understand? They are free and they can leave whenever they choose. That is why they are free.

    3. “You don’t feed the poor, you dont clothe the poor – your system eats away at the souls of the poor.”

Wow, how mighty progressive of cmfeirs.

How long is China going to repeat the mistakes made by the West? If you don’t see slavery when you alk into an restaurant or factory in Beijing, then you are a blind fool. I was actually waiting for some genius to mention that it was OK, because western powers built their economies upon the backs of slaves 200 years ago.

Actually, that remark wa directed at the Westerners who were bacing Obamas health care package. You should have mentioned that before you made you two-faced hypocrite remark. There you have it, just another blind fool.

    And for Tristan,

The basic logic is no form of government in existence can maintain freedom without achieving FIRST the neccessity of life: Air, water and biological nourishment. One can’t survive without air for a few minutes, water for a few days and food for a few weeks.

Well, it seems the party has done such agood job with the first 2 that I wont even bother touching on the third. After 30 years, they have really done a good job of providing lean air and drinkable water to everyone. I mean, I drink water out of th tap in Beijing evveryday – love it. When you say something so ridiculously stupid, I can’t eve waste time on the rmainder of your flawed argument.

    • The Chinese can’t leave whenever they want. No country wants them.

      • I don’t mind those who don’t share my views, but I do hate liars and hypocrites. Cmfeir you are clearly both.

        1. I would stop making assumptions about people who you don’t know.

        2. They are free to leave yet they don’t. Political freedom clearly isn’t worth nearly as much as you think it does.

        3. You are bullshitting.

        4. This is the part where I called you a hypocrite and a liar. Your original post was related to to the incident where congressman Joe Wilson yelled “you lie” during Obama’s healthcare speech. The post before yours was bashing Wilson for his rudeness. Your post was to defend Wilson and bash Obama’s Universal Healthcare proposal.

        http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0909/A_voice_from_the_floor_on_illegal_immigrants_Lie_Page3.html

You are a hypocrite because on the US messageboard you were clearly a conservative against Obama’s progressive proposals to help the poor. Yet on ChinaSmack you are accusing China of not doing enough to help to poor.

You are a liar because instead of admitting to be a hypocrite when I called you out, you lied about your original position with the hope that people here could not understand English well enough to figure out your position.

  40. The Chinese are the niggers of the world – working 10 hours a day 30 days a month for $128… How can the world ever take this society seriously?

So theres 1.3 billion of them. That just means theres a hell of a lot of stupid people in one country. They have no geniuses. They are not clever people. They don’t invent anything – they just steal the rest of the world technology and patents and copy it. They can’t think for themselves and just follow whatever Beijing tells them.

Taiwan should be independent, as well as Hong Kong.

I hope the US nukes China and soon. They deserve it.

China will never have the respect of the free world.

    • If you are going to bash China with multiple accounts at least choose a decent alias. Naming yourself after a music group is tacky enough, but Ja Rule? He sucked hard, kinda like you actually.

  41. LOLZ

Thanks again for your re-post dumbass. First, I refuted all your bullshit claims and your attempt to call me a hypocrite. You then responded by admitting I was right, when I mentioned I was referring to calls for socialized medicine in the US. Do you actually understand he word “progressive”? Do you understand the meaning of the word of progrssivism as it relateds to American politics? Stop trying to twist words to make ourself sound right. You were the one who tried to correlate my earlier words about a health care debate in the US with my words about freedom and the immoral acts of the Chinese government against the porr in their own country. When I called you out on it, you obfuscate behind your liberal wall of bullshit. Say hello to Ted Kennedy for me. There;s a reason people didnt vote for another dumbass liberal. Let me refute the points you made that countered my argument.

    1. I don’t mind those who don’t share my views, but I do hate liars and hypocrites. Cmfeir you are clearly both.

    1. I would stop making assumptions about people who you don’t know.

You clearly do mind those who disagree with your views or you wouldnt have responded with such trivial bullshit as this, because it lacks any substance to any of the arguments either you or I made previously.

    2. 2. They are free to leave yet they don’t. Political freedom clearly isn’t worth nearly as much as you think it does.

They don’t leave because they dont have to. They won’t go to jail or be tortured in some backroom because they said somehing on the street or in a restaurant. They simply get deported. And don’t be sa fucking imecile and bring up the drug smuggler from the UK. You’l just embarass yourself again. Foreigners are more free in Beijing than the Chinese themselves. If you try to argue against that, you should join Obama’s staff.

    3. 3. You are bullshitting.

Really? Why do you say that? Is because you were caught bullshitting about my psosition on progressivism as compared to socialism in a revios post from . . . ohhhh, what was it , , , September 10???? You really made yourself look like fucking tool with that one.

Isnt that exactly what I said in response to you?????? that I was talking to Western comments about the health care package in the US???? Wasn’t it you who tried to make it look like I was talking about something else???? I think you need to look up some definitions, boy. Wanting to take care of the poor does not mean socialist or progressive. it means morally centered. Stop trying to bullshit your way through PoliSci 100. You never addressed my first question, asshole, why defend a system that does not care for the poor, but rather enslaves them? Here’s another one you cannot answer – If the Mainland and Taiwan have a problem . . . if it really is a civil war, then shouldn’t there be some overriding idea behind the scenes that drives it? For example . . . slavery, as in the American Civil War? Repression, as in the Velvet Revolution? Why do Chinese people want Taiwan to suffer??? If Puerto Rico declared independence would US citizens be clamoring for blood???? Give me something good to throw bak in your retard face. Your last one was too easy.

    • “Say hello to Ted Kennedy for me. There’s a reason people didnt vote for another dumbass liberal.” -cmfeirs @ 3.36pm

      “I am a financial conservative and a liberal.” -cmfeirs @ 8.50pm

LOL cmfeirs do you even read what you write? How is it that you go from hating liberals in one post and some 5 hours later declare yourself to be a liberal in another post?

“They don’t leave because they dont have to.”

No shit. They don’t have to because political freedom is clearly not the most important thing in their lives.

“Wanting to take care of the poor does not mean socialist or progressive. it means morally centered. ”

So let me get this straight, you don’t want Universal Healthcare in the US which would exclusively benefit the poor who cannot afford insurance and call that “morally centered”. Yet at the same time you want the Chinese government to be more involved in the private sector by providing extra services to Chinese.

“You never addressed my first question, asshole, why defend a system that does not care for the poor, but rather enslaves them?”

I have not answered the question because I find it more fun to bash your as a hypocrite and to piss you off. It’s clearly working because you are foaming at the mouth. Plus, why would anyone answer to your stupid straw man arguments? For example, how do you determine that China does not care for its poor? Because if you look at poverty rates you will easily find that in the last two decades China has done better to reduce poverty than any other nation in history. Making comparison to India was also a stupid idea as other already picked up.

“Why do Chinese people want Taiwan to suffer?”

      LOL Another straw man argument.

ps cmfeirs why do you use multiple question marks at the end of your questions like this??????? It makes you look even more confused.

  42. and don’t try to claim that bashin Wilson’s outburst, whih was silly and juvenile, disqualifies from bashin Obama’s socialized health care proposal. That is not hypocritical. One is bashin the methods of dissent, while another was bashing the effectiveness of health care legislation. 2 totally different thing. Got anything else?????

    • “Got anything else?????”

Yes, on your previous post you mentioned that you taught for 3 years in China. As a teacher, how do you feel about using spell checkers when posting on the internet?

  43. “People would give up their freedom for a good pair of shoes”, my beloved son Fyodor Dostoyevsky wrote.

There is a little Mephistopheles in each of you. Especially in places where you have killed me, GOD…be it China, America or France.
You have replaced me with the Pursuit of:
    - Pleasure
    - Power
    - and the most innane of all: Happiness

The pursuit of these three scourges leads to DESPAIR, ALIENATION and HATRED. Exactly where China and America are now.

    Still, the Good will Triumph

  44. Jones,

We may or may not be on opposite sides of the political spectrum, but I have enjoyed and respected your logic and our wit.

  45. I am a financial conservative and a liberal. Too difficult for most too understand here besides ourselves.

  46. Hey, God . . . . go fuck yourself! Anyone who thinks they speak for God is a moron. Go ask Osama what God thinks you fuckin cunt!

  47. is reunification ans subjugation the same thing thing? I mean, in the eyes of the Chinese?

  48. I think “Ja Rule” is short for “Japanese Rule” meaning there is a possibility he’s a Japanese who simply hated China because he think China embarrasses the Japanese race. “Nuke China”? What China done to you or your race for the last thousand years? Why not hate the American for nuking yours two cities or is it you’re so white-washed to the point of forgiving.

“China are the nigger of the world”? Japanese are so self-conscious of their short stature they wasted no time in important tall and robust races from northern China and Korea during WWII.

Your’re simply stating all the negative facts about China without thinking about the inter-relationship between facts.

  49. @xiaomoogle,

“I’m an idiot”? Which point did I make revealing that I support supported less freedom? I want China to work toward freedom gradually and steadily without causing another chaotic period like the Great Leap. Each country should chooses its own unique roads to prosperity based on its historical and current facts, not listen to some Western empty rhetorical of high moral.

Yes, I have read “1984″ and Adolf Huxley’s “Brave New World” and grow to loath, IN OUR VIEW, the chilling world of alternative system.

Do you have any ideas EVERY countries have its own censorship? China happens to have over a billion people, hence needed stronger censorship that will prevents distabalizing the government rule, I’m afraid to think otherwise. Do you want the world to be flooded with Chinese immigrants escaping from the chaos of China?

  50. @cmfeirs,

I admitted China have many problems espcially the environment, but one can’t develope a country at this speed without causing side-effects. Majority of the world’s population, 80%, don’t have access to clean water or even air. I would rather wants China to have a strong and RELATIVELY dirty enironment than a week China where every developed countries wanted to envaded and carved out as they did the the past.

There are no magic bullet to developement, all China can do is balance the situations. Majority of the environmental problems of the world are due to Western relentless consumption, their wealth is mainly derived from making waste and wastfulness. Over 50% of Chinese export are owned by foreigner and joint venture. If you care about the world, why don’t you stop consumming, espicially from Chinese’s goods.
