Diamond ring.

From QQ & NetEase:

Summary: Zhang X previously found a diamond. At the time, [he] believed it was a fake diamond so he simply threw it away. The person who lost it, Ms. Wang, found Zhang X through the police, and then took Zhang X to court. At present, Beijing Second Intermediate Court’s final ruling is that Zhang X did not take care of the lost property he found, and even had subjective intent, so he should compensate Ms. Wang 46,000 yuan in losses.

This SB, why didn’t he just insist that he never saw it, why did he have to say he threw it away, does he know nothing about the law…?

网易辽宁朝阳网友:

How did they appraise it to be a 46,000 yuan ring, especially if the ring is already gone?

网易火星网友:

A piece of advice for everyone, don’t pocket anything you pick up! Everything on the streets you must not touch, [because] that just might be a trap!

网易上海网友:

I question the judge’s level of law enforcement, my reasons below:
1. Which law stipulates that the person who finds a lost article is responsible for safeguarding it?
2. How was the ring’s value determined? Just video or purchase evidence is not enough to prove its value, the item must be obtained for proper appraisal first before it can be certain.
3. The person who lost the article herself lost the ring, so then she herself did not fulfill her responsibility for safeguarding, so she must bear some of the loss.

Some general of the Heavenly Kingdom [China] visited Mongolia, and strangely asked, “Your Mongolia does not have an ocean, so why do you have a navy?”
The Mongolian general disdainfully replied, “Don’t you guys also have courts?”

网易火星网友:

What kind of joke is this? So if one day someone’s wife runs away and i see it but did not stop her, am I supposed to compensate that person with a wife?

网易福建福州网友:

Go buy a fake diamond ring…then throw it on the street…then…you will become rich….

网易山东青岛网友:

Those above take note, in China, if you don’t want to be screwed, don’t go help those down and out people on the streets you see, don’t go pick up whatever wealth on the streets you see also, just protect yourself and nothing bad will happen, do you acknowledge this point?

Don’t go help others, okay. The same, don’t go touch anything of value found on the street, because if you touch it and others find out, it will be on your head, and you deserved it. A diamond ring worth over 40,000, as long as you are not a dummy, you can tell the value from the workmanship. It is obvious that the person who found it simply isn’t willing to return it, and yet he gets so many people’s sympathy, I really can’t believe you guys. Try to put yourselves in the positions of the two sides. If you were the person who found it, what would you do? If you say you would be greedy and keep the diamond ring, then you too should not stand on the finder’s side arguing that he definitely would not be greedy and keep it. If you were the owner who lost it, what would you do? If you would be upset that the person who found and then “threw away” the diamond ring that could have been found, then you also please understand the owner’s current feelings!!!

This verdict is really fresh/interesting! Looks like Beijing’s judges don’t lose to Nanjing judges! [Beijing judges refuse to let Nanjing judges be worse than them.]

腾讯芜湖市网友:

Teach this unlucky person who found something to go to a street vendor and find something that looks about the same, and say that was what you found, and whoever wants it can have it.
Another, please learn your lesson, things on the ground must never be picked up.
When I see people drop something, I always just yell to them, and absolutely never get near it—-This society is truly too complicated [You never know what may happen].

腾讯威海市网友:

Haha poor people are poor people. Never seen a diamond before, eh!!! Sigh, so sad.
Always remember that the law stands on the side of people with money and power!!!!!

腾讯网友:

Indirectly encourages the ordinary common people to not recklessly pick up things on the ground. At anytime it could be solid RMB….such bullshit!

  1. He “threw it away”? A diamond ring? Yeah right. He hawked it.

  2. One man’s garbage is another man’s…garbage? If you’re going to drop something of that value on the street, (not just moneywise, many diamonds come from slaved miners) you probably shouldn’t have it in you possession to begin w/.

    • oooooooohhhhh. burn.

    • I have never once used a second name with this email address, not once.

[Note from Fauna: Yes, you have.]

      • Someone just got owned.

        • I’ve only ever posted as “Steven” with one email address. I never once posted as Mr. Wang. Why she thinks that me I’ve no idea. Must be some weird Chinese thing.

      • That wasn’t me. I only ever use one email address. Care to try again?

[Note from Fauna: All of those comments have the same email address as you. What type of computer do you use?]

        • eh, that’s impossible. Unless someone else used my email address. What does it matter what kind of computer I use? I really think you should be a bit more grateful that you even have people visiting your site and leaving comments. I also think you should clarify the rules somewhat, or perhaps introduce a registration system?

  4. to be fair, the man might have found it and sold it, but then,

y does the man have to pay for the woman’s lost?

    fuking stupid chinese cunts.

what kind of law is this?

cant even take care of your own shit and you go blaming someone’s flaws?

    geez!

    • Where you from UDL?
Name your country and give me just 5mins on google, to find an equally, if not worse example of law in your country.

      • well, does it really matter where i am from?
if you really have to know, i, am from china.
have u mistaken what i was trying to say up there?
what kinda of country r u from then?
honestly, i have never ever really known any country without a single rediculous law.

        dont judge too quickly, Tadd.

  5. sounds like diamond lady has some solid guanxi

i wonder if this stuff happens anywhere else…

  6. How dare she take that wedding ring off her finger for even a nanosecond.

If taxis don’t turn their lights off when there’s a passenger inside, anyone can get in.

  7. Just goes to show how the saying “only in china” can only be said about stupid bullshit made in china, and by the chinese.

What society are we living in? All those people who get their homes taken away from developers just because the local government people love receiving fat little red envelopes filled with cash…do they ever get sued for loss? Or how about the developers who bribe the local officials to make things happen?

NO, instead people who help other people get sued. People who find shit on the floor and think its 10 RMB costume jewelry and toss it, get sued.

I am this close of suing the taxi driver(s) the next time they refuse me just cause its 60 minutes away from their shift change.

  8. He should have just put the ring on and disappeared for a while, but then I suppose that there would be ringwraiths to worry about, and he would have had to cast the one ring into the fires of Mount Doom; maybe the 46,000 kuai was the easier way out.

  9. Why waste time pursuing a rubbish 46k RMB ring? The children of China’s elite spend more on a single night out.

  10. Hope he saved some of that money from the pawnshop.

  11. Hey Fauna, I love to hear what ordinary Chinese folks say; is there a way they could hear our comments too?

I know there’s a lot of trolls aboard, but some comments with intelligent thought should be heard. Maybe it will enlighten our Chinese brothers and sisters, who knows?

  12. This is some whack news man. I had never heard such shit before. only in china..truly

  13. Obviously the guy already pawned it and said he threw it away so he won’t have to pay up in court. I just hope that he got a good price for it so he can pay the bitch back.

  14. I actually read that the reason the police knew it was this guy was there is video evidence of him picking up the ring in the car park where she left it.

There was also video evidence of him throwing it away, it was said in the Shanghai Daily.

Thus, it seemed he did not sell it.

  15. Another brain dead Chinese law. What’s wrong with you people? Chinese have no logic OR self respect. Like dogs really.

  16. the owner of the ring is clearly at fault.

  17. It looks like variation of “Look what I found, let’s share it” scam:
you walk on the street, someone drops a wallet or a roll of money, another person picks it up making sure that you see him picking it up. Then since you “saw him” and might expose him to the person who “lost” it offers you to share the “found” (which is in reallity is worthless).
    So, probable scenario:
The woman “drops” fake diamond ring making sure it is within the range of CCTV camera.
Observes the place until someone finds it and, since it is shiny BUT worthless piece of crap throws it away far from the camera’s range (who would throw even a fake diamond ring? I wouldn’t!!!). Then quickly goes to the police to file report – “Oh! No! I probably lost it in that parking lot! Let’s check CCTV camera recordings!”
    And here it comes…

    • This story did leave the taste of scam in my mouth too but a bit differently. Reminds me of when my friend got taken for a ride when he was told to ‘watch over’ a classmate’s expensive cellphone, then under his watch it got ‘stolen’ and my friend was bullied and forced into paying for it.
On the other hand if there is no clear law on what happens in situations like these then the person with the lawyer and guanxi wins.

  18. I agree, how did they know what it is worth…. This is a fake story…. Someone has been had…..

  19. This story seems to be either false or missing some information because the situation is highly irrational.

However, the standard rule governing this situation is (or should be): finders keepers, losers weepers.

  20. Who ever said that law stands behind a person with money is full of SH**, and the guy who threw away the ring is an idiot !!!1

  21. without the Bible or a Biblically-ground culture, there is no justice.
