Girlfriend Clutches Boyfriend’s Hand After Deadly Accident

From Mop and free.21.cn:

Boyfriend near death from car accident, girlfriend at the scene clutching his hand

“For me, you have to hang on!”, a young girl, half kneeling on the ground cried, hands tightly clutching her boyfriend’s bloodstained hand as he was stuck in the car.

At approximately 3 in the morning, in the main lane that goes from west to east, this Cherry QQ compact car, carrying two people had flipped. Its shape had been deformed badly, the front windshield was smashed, and the two windscreen wipers were still moving.

Everything that had been in the car and bits of it were strewn across the freeway.

Through the deformed window a 20-year-old man stuck in the driver’s seat could be seen. His eyes were tightly shut, his body wasn’t moving and a bloodstained hand reached through the deformed car’s window.

I’m begging you, hurry and help him, he can’t hang on any longer,” a young girl half kneeling by the car had cried to the paramedics who had rushed to the scene.

The paramedics told her they weren’t optimistic about his injuries, and she wailed, “Impossible, his hand is so warm!”

At 3:30 am, after confirming his condition, the paramedics prepared to remove him from the car.

The young girl, seeing the situation, threw down her phone, to touch his face, and cried: “They’re here to save you! For me, you have to hang on.”

The police and paramedics then got the car the right way around, and pulled the man from the car. The paramedics then spent about 15 minutes treating him.

From the time of the accident until when the man was sent to hospital, approximately one hour passed. Although the girl hadn’t stopped crying, she kept encouraging her boyfriend to hang on.

At about 4am the girl got onto the ambulance with the stretcher. A doctor told this reporter he had suffered intra-cranial bleeding, his injuries were quite heavy, he was suffering arrhythmia and needed urgent brain surgery. Immediately after, 999 took the patient to hospital to undergo treatment.

According to the police on the scene, the injured was the driver of the car in the accident, the girl was a passenger. After the accident, she had climbed out. The cause of the accident was under investigation.

“I don’t know how I crawled out either,” the girl said to the reporter before getting on the ambulance…”

  1. 加油啊!!~

  2. I hope everything goes well. This is still one of the reasons why I don’t want to buy a car…

  3. Zhu Fu! Slow down when driving to avoid tragedies like this.

  4. 在天愿做比翼鸟, 在地愿为连理枝。
    唉, 爱。

  5. when the couple chose QQ,they chose their fate!think about the ulgy loago of chery…

  6. sensationalism.. everywhere… shit happens everyday bro.

  7. The Chinese drive cars like they ride bikes so it’s hard to feel sorry for them when they have accidents.

From the article it sounds like it was a single vehicle accident = retard driving. Can’t go wrong with that type out of the DNA pool before they reproduce.

And his girlfriend will dump him when she finds out that he is no longer able to be more than a vegetable. If she doens’t do it voluntarily her parents will tell her to do so. And regardless of her feelings for the guy she will listen to her parents.

And if the accident happened during the day the girlfriend wouldn’t be able to get near him for the crowd.

Typical comments you hear from Chinese hanging around bloody accidents:

    “Lots of blood.”

    “Is he dead yet?”

“For all the blood he’s got to be dead.”

    “Look at his leg wiggle.”

    “He’s gotta be dying.”

“Is that a clump of his scalp that came off?”

    “He’s dead for sure.”

    “Look at his children cry.”

    • what is wrong with you guy?
making fun about these kind of situations?

      • Its german humor. Was in a bar the other day and when i told a german guy i am dutch he said: “since when did they start serving dogs like you.” he thought that was funny

    • i like how so many people put their nationalities in their names, makes stereotyping all the more satisfying

    • Hey man, you Germans think you’re the freakin most righteous race in the world dude? It’s the GERMANS who killed 6 million jews like animals, it’s the GERMANS who would elect someone like Hitler to become their chancellor, and it’s the GERMANS who only know how to start a war and have no idea how to win it… get a fuckin life you NAZI skinhead… it doesn’t matter how gentlemen you try to be now, your race, your grandparents killed 6 million jews, and that makes you a monster no matter what…

      • It is generally not a good idea to fight racism with racism.

ps. Do not attack the state of Germany for something that happend 50 years ago. There is enough material to critize in todays Germany. ;-) lol
War in Afghanistan, wide spread xenophobia and violence against Migrants, disposal of atomic waste in 3rd world countries, supportment of groups with connections to terrorists (Munich – WUC), censorship (I am not even talking about the media and politics (e.g. Zhang Danhong), just take a look at how do they deal with computer games. The German Government really threats their People as sheeple and it is sometimes really shocking how “political correctness” kills every dissenting opinion and ad hoc legislation…

        • Sorry, made a mistake. The last sentence should go like this: “The German Government really threats their people as sheeple and it is sometimes really shocking how “political correctness” is used to kill every dissenting opinion and is used as an excuse for (insane) “ad hoc legislation”.

      • “…and it’s the GERMANS who only know how to start a war and have no idea how to win it…”

AHA! I knew it; Bush is German!

BTW, how many did ‘your’ grandparents kill? Yeah I really want to know, too. Gosh, I really wish there was an official tally sheet somewhere, where belligerent and confrontational ‘historians’ can then look up numbers of death historically attributed to each national, ethnic, or tribal group (just love to bore down into those Hutu versus Tutsi numbers, myself), so that one can finally win an argument from time to time, Don’t you?

I mean, it would certainly save a lot of keyboard pounding, figuratively wagging our fingers at one another; one would only have to point to a link with the official score, “…et voila! I win, you lose; so there.” We can only dream, right?

But until then, maybe it might be worthwhile to stop all this nonsense of finger pointing, accept that we ALL have dirty hands through history at one point or another, and really sit around like an honest bunch of killers to decide how we can make the world a little less unhappy?

      • So Germans are a race? Oh please tell me, MD, what other races there are…

        • The Germanic peoples (Teutonic race) were anthropologically accepted as members and a sub classification of the Nordic Race during the late 1800′s to mid 1900′s. This had more to do with racial ideology rather than pure scientific criteria, but it became the basis for Hitler’s assertion of innate “Aryan” supremacy as the “master” race. Though discounted today by the mainstream scientist, it nonetheless remains the vocal contention of many white supremacist groups who continue to staunchly argue its validity.

      • To MD: What happened in the past already happened, and it is OK if you have some reservations about it, but you shall not use it against the whole German people – they are not responsible for something happened generations ago.
And how about all Chinese get attacked and critized for your prejudiced opinion?
Honestly whoever this croach is, he is right about our traffice problem and how cold-blood (ignorant should be more accurate)a lot people are.
Most people did not realise that even if they dont care about their own life, the way they drive will cause big danger to others (no belt, drunk, etc)

      • What about the cultural revolution?

        You are a moron, MD

    • TO: Koji Kabuto, luc, MD, beowulf, Ralphrepo, and bleah;

What did I write that is wrong?

      1. Yes, the Chinese do drive cars as if they are bikes.

      2. Did I miss something? It was single vehicle accident so the driver is a retard.

      3. If his girlfriend doesn’t dump him when she finds out he is a vegetable her parents, extended relatives, and friends will all pressure her to do so.

      4. In China crowds gather within minutes to see the macabre road accident theatre. Deny it?

      5. All the comments I wrote I have heard at the scenes of accidents. I didn’t include the nervous laughter at somebody else’s expense.

Furthermore regarding your most pathetic remarks.

      1. I have made fun of no one.

      2. Whether I am German or not doesn’t matter.

      3. Nobody has killed more people than the Chinese Communist Party.

      4. I am unfamiliar with Germany’s present day to day politics. Maybe beowul knows more.

      5. bleah is correct. The Germans are not a race and I don’t think that any Germans think that except for the most wing-nut wannabe goose-steppers.

You’re welcome to reflect upon my comments.

      • I don’t know why my name was chosen to be included in your cast of characters to be addressed. I did not respond to your comments other than to pen a satirical notation about MD’s dig at you. That said, the comment that I will make now however, is in response to what you stated in your item #2:

“2. Did I miss something? It was single vehicle accident so the driver is a retard.”

Single vehicle accidents could have been caused by a multitude of reasons that have nothing to do with driver ineptitude. There may have been a sudden medical event such as a seizure, hypoglycemia, hypotension or cardiac arrhythmia induced syncope, stroke, et cetera; or there may have been a transient traffic element (animal, pedestrian, another vehicle, a thrown object) that wasn’t struck by the vehicle but nonetheless affected the vehicle’s operation, ie. causing the driver to swerve in avoidance; the driver may have been distracted by simultaneous operation of a cell phone or other electronic device; his girlfriend may have engaged him in a manner that offered a distraction (conversation, argument, sexual act or horseplay); or the vehicle may have suffered a mechanical malfunction such as a locked gas pedal, brake or steering mechanism failure…

In essence, there is no convincing or substantive evidence offered thus far that satisfies (at least in my mind) why we should view the driver as being mentally deficient or challenged. IMHO, the fact that the accident involved a single vehicle is, in and of itself, immaterial in this regard.

      • 1. Yes, the Chinese do drive cars as if they are bikes. Yeah many Chinese do. And many Germans drive cars as if they are Luke Skywalker attacking the Death Star. I have been on a German Autobahn, I know what I am talking about. But if I read about an accident involving a German I would never think something like – “ah, of course a German…”
        2. see ralphrepo´s answer
        3. How do you know that? Because most women in Germany will do that?
        4. Crowds always gather to watch. People in Germany do that as well. But I would never think “oh, those Germans”. I would just think typically annoying human reaction.
        5. I have seen accidents in China and in Germany. Everything was pretty much the same. – “nervous laughter” are a protection reaction. Similiar to people joking after a funeral in Germany.

        -
        1. No, you were just bashing chinese people.
        2. I do not care where somebody is from. I just do not like you as a person.
        3. Nobody has killed more people than the western capitalistic system. You are including the death by famine, right? Then the capitalistic system is even worse. But I think it is ok, if people in India are still starving to death. At least they die in a democracy.
        4. Yes – I think I do. But not only Germany, also China.
        5. There are no races. To use the Word “race” in German is actually one of the worst thing to do. Everybody will think that you are a Nazi. Funny think is, that Germans still think they are superior. They just do not use the word anymore.

        • Beowolf, I’m Chinese; but I’m going to say something that you probably won’t want to hear. Having seen both systems up close, insofar as the milieu of national driving is concerned, Germany, is ahead of anything that the PRC offers in regards to traffic safety. One example of this is the universal requirement of an emergency medical kit and fire extinguisher in all vehicles; a driver MUST stop and render assistance when passing an accident scene, or else is subject to arrest. The entirety of Germany is also covered by overlapping medical evacuation helicopter service, provided by the German military. If one knows anything about the “Golden Hour” relative to trauma care, one can appreciate why there is tremendous importance in this.

In China, the only thing that frankly beats Germany outright is that its roads are brand new. However, Chinese (within China itself) are a relatively immature driving force. Many of the accepted road etiquette standards that one sees, accepts and expects within Germany isn’t even on the radar of the majority of drivers in China. I was in the back of a Beijing taxi one evening, in which our driver violates a red signal and causes a motorcycle driver to ditch in avoidance of our vehicle; our driver just kept going. When I asked if he should stop to see if the other man was alright, the driver replied, “He’s fine, I never hit him.” After a few more minutes of what became a heated exchange; when I finally insisted that he stop and return to the accident that he caused, he quickly pulled over, and screamed at us to get out of his taxi. We did. A few minutes later, we encountered a policeman and tried to give him the information about the accident and the taxi driver who caused it. The officer seemed rather disinterested and insisted that we had to to go to the public security office instead. I know that this was only one incident, but it is illustrative of the general sentiment in China vis a vis traffic issues. That is, if it has nothing to do with me at the immediate moment, I don’t care to know about it, even if someone may be dying.

My point is that traffic safety within Germany is integrated with a high level of public and private consciousness, and has been for generations. Within the PRC however, it seems more so that it’s a system based on the belief of every man for himself.

          • Indeed. I love a lot of things about China, but they’re driving habits are definitely not one of them.

          • “but I’m going to say something that you probably won’t want to hear.” Yes, you are right. I do not want to hear that. Why? Because I already know that. I think you are clearly missing my point. I am not saying traffic in China is saver, than in Germany – which is of course utterly nonsence. I am trying to it is not adequate at all to use a story here like this to vent one´s wrath on chinese people at all or on the – the topic here is traffic accidents – behaviour of many chinese people in traffic.
An Example: He said: “If his girlfriend doesn’t dump him when she finds out he is a vegetable her parents, extended relatives, and friends will all pressure her to do so.”

The truth is most people would consider to leave their partner when they find out he will be a “vegetable”. Even more in a poorer country like China, where many people have to struggle to survive and sometimes also have to take care of their parents/whole family. This is sad reality. But we do not know what the girl in the story is going to do, and we have no right at all to sit at home in front of a computer and jugde people for their possible behaviour (remember – which we do not even know yet). Just image there is a traffic accident like that in Germany* and an e.g. Italian Netizen will post a similiar Post with the content: “She will leave him for sure. Her friends and family will also talk her into this, because Germans nowadays just glory self fulfilment and have no more other values at all.”

You see – I am pissed of by his intention and attitude.

*happens every day – main reason – fast driving and alcohol. The best and most expensive cars – which most of the chinese people can not afford. A Cherry QQ is more reachable. There is a reason why the buy cheap and unsave cars – might not protect you in a heavy car accident.

      • I think the Guo Ming Dang and the Yuan Dynasty killed more people than the CCP.

    • 1. You know just because he uses the word “German” in his Cyber-Name, doesnt mean he is actually German.

      2. This is the internet – people exhibit their prejudices and observations. And often observations are misinterpreted as prejudices by those on high-horses.

    • What is more discussing? Germancockroach or answers on his comment?

It is tragedy and nothing can minimize tragic. Even germanesque self-righteous.

From article, all we know that QQ rolled.

  8. I agree, this should remain private. There’s no “news” element there except voyeurism towards someone’s distress. I don’t see that as news. There’s no lesson to be taken, nothing about the causes, etc. Fail on that one, and all my thoughts with the victim…

    • LOL, in the US it’s call “rubber necking.” People love to witness the macabre. In fact, some spend so much time gawking as they drive by, that they themselves cause another accident. It’s a human element in people to do so, and if anything China’s got, it’s lots of people.

      • The internet has made rubber necking a lot worse. Grief seems like it should be a private thing to me. There is something really distasteful about having someone’s painful, private moments broadcast.

Doesn’t seem to stop people from doing it, though. People. Fuck ‘em.

  9. http://www.spike.com/video/cherry-qq-crash-test/2857606

Interesting video of crash test for Cherry QQ supposedly traveling at 20KPH/12MPH. A coffin on wheels, IMHO.

  10. that is what i call love.
someone standing by your side and holding onto you

  11. Here we go again. A tragic story that could happen everywhere in the whole world, and some stupid sinophobes who literally have to exploit every opportunity at the internet to show the world how evil and stupid “those Chinese monkeys” are. Hallelujah – welcome to Chinasmack.

  12. 为他祈祷。

  13. HI I AM BAAAAAAAAAAAAAACCCCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKK!!!
WELL, BLABLABLA, people complaining about the Cherry QQ car, its the car`s fault. C`mon, If you take a look at the state of the car you will notice it is deformed, and, to be deformed that badly the driver must have been at full speed, it is not about the car but about how fast he was driving.
ANOTHER THING, What happened to the remarks? i am not getting any… Bad remarks are my fuel, i cant go on without them .Either CHINA SMACK removed the remarks or people are not giving me any, which i dont think it is the main reason.

  14. He should have been wearing a helmet.

  15. This is a crash test from the first Chinese car to be sold in Europe, SPLAT!

  16. Cherry QQ + Chinese drivers = population control

  17. All fun and games until someone loses and eye.

    Rubbernecking cnuts.

  18. for every 100 girls, there are 150 boys – in peace time, what better way to make adjustment than to mass produce coffins on wheels? Yeah, number one automobile market in the whole wide world, so so so proud to be PRCnese.

  19. 6000 000 Jews. Dont forget the colossal losses of Soviet Union – about 20 mln people, dont forget that Japanese followed German, then invade China, kill millions of Chinese, and one guy in Nanjing Nanjing, who was invalid, on the bed with his head in the coat rack.

  20. Slow news day isn’t it..

  21. Very sad. My guess is that the guy wasn’t wearing his seat belt. I really don’t understand the aversion ordinary Chinese have to seat belts. What’s the big deal about wearing one? Click and you’re done.

  22. You come across a horrible freeway accident, a man dying, a hysterical woman in tears, and you start snapping photos? Just brilliant.

  23. This accident happened almost FOUR years ago and first appeared on the Legal Evening News (法制晚报, a Beijing newspaper) on Mar 13, 2006.

    http://fzwb.ynet.com/article.jsp?oid=8088741

I can’t find any update online on what happened to the man. Maybe the newspaper didn’t follow the event or they followed but didn’t put the update online.

However, I have sent them an email asking for update and will tell you chinaSMACKers when I get a reply:

    法制晚报:

    您好!我在互联网上看到国内众多论坛转载贵报的一篇2006年3月13日的报导《为了我,你一定要坚持下去》,文章中的故事相当感人,而且有很多网友很关心这对情侣之后的情况。请问贵报是否有持续报道这件事情,或者有什么办法了解到他们的近况?

    此致
    敬礼!
    Python

  24. Wow…that’s sad, I hope the guy does alright.

What more can you expect from driving a Chinese car? Haven’t you ever seen a Chinese car crash test? It’s horrible.

  25. I agreed that Chinese drivers drive cars like bike. They are extremely dangerous. I was almost hit by them when I was crossing the zebra crossing. It was green light for me and red for the cars, and the cars still don;t care about the red light and zoom over. Damn

  26. never buy cherry QQ, its a death cage.

  27. I hope he survives . . .
very unlikely that he will be able to talk, walk or even move tho’

  28. Geely’s going to own VOLVO. Hope VOLVO will keep its safety brand image and innovative streak.

  29. This sounds like a a movie script, one of these cheesy tragic dramas.

  30. :( 祝福

(“Your comment is a bit too short.” … But I have little else to say.)

  31. Tragic traffic accidents happen all the time everyday in any country. What is the big freaking deal that this accident deserves worldwide attention???

  32. powmadeak47.com

welcome to the auto-based economy ya’ dumb asses.
Ya’ should have known ya were being played when the Clintons decided to bring ya into the mess that kills 40,000+ Americans every yr.

Here is some advise. Take a fucking bus.

  33. wtf…i thought the main point would be whether or not he survived and also how did he flip his car at 3am when there arent any cars around

    • He flipped his car because he is a retard.

His girlfriend was lucky to get out of it.

He turned out to be a confirmed vegetable.

He is now out of the gene pool. The doctors just pulled the plug after two weeks. They asked his mother first and she said, “No problem, quit wasting time!”

His girlfriend dumped him within ten days of the accident.

She is now screwing his best friend who is on his second marriage. She has had three abortions with this guy. She teases him saying that his seed is so good.

Both families, The Vegetable’s and the young woman’s, have sold off their Chinese cars and are now riding bikes. They have promised themselves that they will only buy a car when they can afford an import from Germany.

The Dead Vegetable’s family are almost half way to buying a good German car with the life insurance money they got from his untimely death.

At The Vegetables funeral everybody smoked cigarettes, ate peanuts and pumpkin seeds spitting the husks on the floor, and spoke about how shitty Chinese cars are.

One of The Dead Vegetable’s grade school teachers did remark quietly that he was never close to being the brightest in the class.

      • This German guy is retarded, just read his post above and you will know it. Dont argue or even give slightest attention to such a cold-blood monster, because that will only him more excited. Imagine if his partner became a vegatable, he himself most likely will the one sending the partner to hell.
Yes, German make good cars, so what? They are the most unhappy, paradoxical and pathetic people in west Europe. A lot of them dont have much individual life, but more like a collective group of Aliens in [Dark City]. A personal guess is they are too much full of hate.

        • Daphie,

Calm down. Sure he is trolling but at least it is pretty funny. Kind of contradicts your opinion of them.

Better than Laowaixian or that idiot ‘Tins of sardines’.

          Germancockroach… enjoyable.

        • This Daphie guy is retarded, just read his post above and you will know it. Don’t argue or even give slightest attention to such a dimwit, because that will only make him rage more. Imagine if his partner became sarcastic, he most likely will the one sending the partner to hell.
Yes, he can write whatever he wants, so what? From whereever he comes from they are the most pathetic and generalising persons known to man. A lot of them dont have much individual life, but more like a collective group of rednecks. A personal guess is they are too full of stereotype believes.

          • Sorry can not help take your bait.
Seeing this blaeh guy so angry really make me happy, am I sadistic? Yeah, i quite enjoy it,haha.

        • Daphie: “verbal flatulence verbal flatulence verbal flatulence, because that will only get him more excited. Verbal flatulence verbal flatulence verbal flatulence…”

          I am excited.

Daphie: “Yes, German make good cars, so what?”

          Jealous.

Daphie: “They are the most unhappy, paradoxical, and pathetic people…. A lot of them don’t have much individual life, but more like a collective group…”

Revealing Freudian slip of the Chinese.

          • Why I should be jealous of someone who make good cars but is cold-blood, pathetic and unhappy (namely, a scrooge)? Maybe next time you shall use more brain to make a more logic reaction…
Anyway, seeing you mad make me happy again.
I hope you are not playing both blaeh and croach, then you are really pathetic beyong my sympathy, hehe.

          • Maybe Daphie is the wife of The Vegetable’s ex-girlfriend’s lover.

        • All generalization is wrong, include this one, and the one i said about German people before.

      • Hehe… sure the Germancockroach is trolling. Well, parts of this is called “satire” as of us Europeans have a maybe strange sense of humor. To others, the maybe Chinese it is not humor but I guess most of the uditions here is laowais. He surely points out issues but also ask “is this typical Chinese”? Do real condemnation or whatever. Just if make a post completely he need include the “complete comprehensive manual of humor and it’s derivatives” that will make it a too long read for most of the people.
All know here it is easy sit shitfaced in fron ot a pc and spit out whatever that comes into your mind at forums. It does not prove you really is that person in real life. It just makes it easier to do your daily vent off frustration. I guess Germancockroach also don’t want you take all to seriously and read a little between the lines.

Anyway: Grats to xmcx, ralphrepro and wichone to ever burden their asses effort balance this rambling.

I like China, just add some more Nanjings :P

        Happy weekend all!

    • It could happen that someone driving BMW or Audi was speeding over 200km/h and the guy in QQ tried to avoid it.

Actually, the worst drivers in Serbia are Germans in German cars going home from vacation in Greece.

  34. Ding this.

I hope the man in the story turns out ok.

  35. judging from the list of injuries the driver sustained from the crash, survival certainly doesn’t sound very probable.
hopefully the cheerful memory he left behind with the girl can help her combat her way through the grief that will soon besiege her.

  36. 祝福祝福祝福祝福祝福祝福祝福祝福祝福

  37. My dad was driving, me in the passnger seat, a friggin Geo Metro. Almost head on from a drunk Chevy Nova but my dad swerved just right and instead it side swiped us just behind the driver door. We both got out no prob, but the back of the car was crumpled. The drunk old bastard then ran headon into a brand new F150. The F150 was fucked, its engine lieing on the ground, but luckily no one was hurt. The Nova was still drivable.

  38. Here are some more photos of the Chery QQ:

    http://paultan.org/2006/02/18/chery-qq-crash-test/

…along with another video that compares it to another historic hall of fame vehicle, the “Yugo”:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J95f1Olos98

It’s interesting that the PRC has recently eclipse the US in total number of vehicles sold. I wonder how many of that number is represented by these motorized skateboards? Food for thought.

At any rate, it seems that China is in desperate need of a home grown Ralph Nader. Consumer protection and safety always seems to be on the back burner within the PRC. While people may gawk at the grisly spectacle of some unfortunate mangled into a mass of steel and plastic, if one looks a bit deeper, it is in fact, emblematic of the safety issues confronting the average Chinese consumer. “Glad its not me” or other wishful thinking is not any rational way to pursue product safety goals. A vehicle like the Chery QQ should either be strengthened or be banned from the roads.

  39. Actually, brain sugery in China… not so expensive.

  40. BTW, here’s one more video on the crash worthiness of this vehicle:

    Sad stuff…

  41. Yugo couldn’t be imported in USA if it didn’t compile with Californian standards.

The biggest problem with Yugo is engine failure caused by not changing oil on regular basis – because dealers didn’t told buyers to do so.

Actually, Yugo is well engineered car. Without any modifications and regular care, it can last for more than 20 years (I see some of the first models on regular basis!) and tuned one are respectful racing machines (up to 220 km/h).

Yugo is time proven car. QQ or some of Ford/GM/Chrysler (even Benz) aren’t. It just happen that was solid and popular car with some tweeks of its own.

  42. I do not care about the cherry QQ. Maybe it is not a safe car, I don´t know. Therefore I do not care really much if somebody is bashing a company. I also think it is ok to complain about someones poor driving habits. I do that on the Highway all the time.
You know what is not ok?
    Expressions like these:

“…we have come to expect when descendants of Confucius try to use principles of physics and engineering that were discovered, albeit long ago, by westerners”

“…so it’s hard to feel sorry for them when they have accidents….And his girlfriend will dump him when she finds out that he is no longer able to be more than a vegetable. If she doens’t do it voluntarily her parents will tell her to do so. And regardless of her feelings for the guy she will listen to her parents…And if the accident happened during the day the girlfriend wouldn’t be able to get near him for the crowd…Typical comments you hear from Chinese hanging around bloody accidents: “Lots of blood.” “Is he dead yet?””…”

Most of the posts here are ok – even your Posts (maybe with the exception of the nader post, but this post has nothing to do with the story and I will count it as an attack against the chinese government and not the chinese people) are fine. But Posts like that one from the “deutschen Kuechenschabe” are really disgusting.

  43. Most of the time we are too sensitive and we get hurt easily. And then we attack others…

  44. well, how fast can a qq go? 50km/h?

  45. You are right. I also think that you are not a “人”. You are a troll. And what do people say? Do not feed the troll.

  46. …a technique as ancient as the Chinese civilization. It is a medical principle called “using poison to counter poison”

Actually, the idiom “fight poison with poison” originates in the ming dynasty, but this is common mistake amongst people who understands little to nothing of Chinese history and are too lazy to use a search engine but nevertheless pretends be an expert.

…feel that a trade war and industrial espionage is legitimate.

Economy of less developed countries often expand rapidly because they can copy the techonologies, and production methods of developed countries and by pass stages of trial and error. When a large technological and economic gap exists between trading countries, intellectual property rights are often ignored in favor of feeding the poor.

As for the so called trade wars, trade is good, despite the ire of many blue collar workers. For every cheap, labored intensive job shipped overseas to another country, there will be demand and opportunity to create more high tech jobs coupled with the cheaper manufactured goods are usually good for the economy in the long run.

It will take a certain amount of time for Chinese nationalism to fully ridicule itself, in and of itself.

    yes…I think.

When the borders of China are as welcoming as those of Europe, when my grandchildren plan to emigrate there because of the good welfare conditions and aspiring opportunities…

It’s true China still has a long way to go before the average living standards are close to those of Europe, but it’s immigration policy surely has nothing to do with its stage of economic development. Currently the countries with the highest standards of livings also happen to be those with the most restrictive immigration polices, moreover I hope your grandchildren have higher aspirations then to freeload off of the welfare system of another country.

I feel no compassion for them, and do not see them as people. The reason? They don’t see us as people. 不是人. If you disagree on this I say YOU’re biased.

While it isn’t remotely surprising that you feel no compassion for Chinese people, I don’t think you should make those kind of generalizations. It is possible, even likely that the multitudes of people calling you less than human meant so only in the singular sense.

How come an upstanding good man is “a good Han”?

Whether by ignorance or willful misundestanding, you have confused two different though somewhat related concepts. 好汉 (pinyin haohan, literally “good han”) should be more accurately rendered as “Hero”. Though it is rooted in ethnocentrism it has long lost that particular connotation, much like one can be called “Herculean” without implicitly assuming Greek ancestry.

Most of it is tongue in cheek, if not for my stunted emotional maturity I would seriously respond to some of the semi-valid points you have made, unfortunately we do not always get what we want.

  47. *shrugs* I didn’t translate it because it was news, I did because I thought people would read it.

  48. its all about cost..a QQ cost about USD6K in china.. you can’t expect too much comfort and protection for that.. I agreed that bad driving is the main cause here but look, 8 out of 10 chinese drivers are bad drivers… look and look again before you cross the road when the little green man is flashing…

  49. LoL, nice one, Jones. Remind me to +1 you later.

  50. Does the Boston Marathon count?

  51. “Physics. The article hinted that the car rolled over a couple of times.”

I’m not so sure about that. Considering that the girl stated that she “climbed out” it is doubtful that the vehicle had rolled several times. Had it done so, the roof would have collapsed and she too would have likely suffered tremendous head and or neck trauma. Unlikely as she was able to escape unassisted after the vehicle had come to a rest.

  52. Did you cry about it?

    Tell your mommy?

Will you talk to your therapist about this?

    Do you feel victimized?

    There’s a Grendel in everybody.

  53. please point me some place in the modern press I may see an actual “foreigner” hailed as a 好汉.

    example 1

    example 2

If you speak Chinese, then you can see that the title of each refer to foreign nationals as 好汉 in some form. If not, translate.google.com will yield a decent rendition.

These are the two of the first three hits off of a baidu search “外国好汉” (The first linked to some guy’s blog, which I can’t see unless I login on msn). These were not difficult to find.

can 华 mean any measure of civilisation distinct from the Chinese? Or is there a separate word for Chinese civilisation vs. “other” “civilisation”?

As with all Chinese characters, 华 can take on a number of meanings depending on the context, one of which refers to China, and by extension (when combined with other characters) the Chinese civilization.

When you talk about “a Chinese word” denoting civilization, you are in fact referring to a word-phrase coined from several characters which themselves are the individual morphemes in Chinese language. There is no basic level character which denote Chinese civilization apart from any other kinds civilization. (As far as I know, which I admit isn’t very far) To render “Chinese civilization” in Chinese, it would take China/Chinese + civilization, this is identical to the phrase for every other civilization, namely “country/cultural name” + “civilization”.

they have a HUGE burden of ethnocentrism

On this point I do not disagree, however if you want to back up your statements with examples, you should take some time to make sure they are true/valid ones. With only an casual understanding of Chinese language one is liable to make cultural assumptions that looks cogent on the surface but is in fact entirely baseless, much like Condoleezza Rice’s amusing example of crisis/危机.

Well that makes it clearer who you are working for.

Common sense, and it does not pay very well.

  54. Han means person. Many cultures refer to themselves as ‘the people’ in their own language.

  55. Hmmm… If you’re going to say that, then I guess you would consider too, that the Ford Pinto was a classic car? LOL… To each his own, I guess. Just remember to bring your own barbecue sauce.

  56. My brother had a Lada once. Going no more than 20 km/h, we rear-ended someone and the Lada was wrecked enough to be on the verge of undrivable, but not so wrecked that he could get enough insurance money from it. So, we drove it at an angle into a wall to wreck it up some more. Hey, we were kids – seemed like a good idea at the time :)
By the way, he bought the car for $100. Worth every penny, I’d day.

  57. hahaha, that’s right! otherwise he would have shit his pants too!

  58. This piece of trash should just go and get into an accident itself because it doesn’t deserve to live. If i ever see this cockroach, i’m going to exterminate it and its family so that the world will be a better place. lol
