I bet it is because they are afraid of airplanes or satellites photographing barren/bald mountains. If they had the money, it wouldn’t just be graves, but the entire mountain would be painted green.

I want to ask which law gives them the right to blow up graves?

The local leadership’s relative probably is in the business of selling green cloth!

After death, one green hat for each person. ["To wear a green hat" is like your wife cheats on you.]

It isn’t the first time green paint or green netting has been used to make the land green, supposedly to avoid satellite spying, to whitewash the local government official’s achievements.
For government officials who live off of taxpayer money to force the ordinary common people to do such a meaningless/bewildering thing is truly a wonder.
Wouldn’t it be better if government officials could use just 50% of this “intelligence and wisdom” to do something practical for the ordinary common people?
Why bother wasting precious national resources to do these fake things, using such despicable methods to raise the area’s official’s “green political achievements”?
Where did the fine tradition of seeking truth from facts go? It is difficult to imagine, these public servants, are they able to really serve the people?

  1. so a horse goes into a bar and orders a whiskey sour…

  2. Anyone want to shed light why turning gravestones green has anything to do with “satellite spying?”

Gravestones, I think, in the right setting are just as beautiful as greenery. So long as they’re not tacky. History is what makes a place interesting, not bushes.

  3. sad and disgusting. why?

  4. I wonder into which color it would be better to paint the officials who issued this regulation.

  5. I wonder, if the people got their wish and one official decided to grow a heart by give back in copious amounts, would that official last very long afterwards? By giving themselves such face, they would definitely either be taken down a few pegs or the entire party would have to become golden hearted as well.

    Not gonna happen.

  6. Why don’t the villagers get together to go out and paint ALL of the graves green? Issue solved.

  7. This is how totalitarian regime. My way or Highway.

  8. As per my will I’m getting cremated and having my ashes scattered into the East Sea, that way there’s no risk of coming back as a zombie or having my skull sold on Ebay.

  9. Am I the only one who thinks this is almost reasonable? The paint’s not to disguise them, but to ID which graves are still maintained and clear space for new graves without pissing off too many people. The graves that are still cared for get painted/covered in green, the abandoned non-green ones (that no one will make a fuss over) are torn down? I mean, I think you could’ve found other ways to do it, but this is probably the least expensive way on the governments part to do it.

  10. I remember reading they wanted the graves painted green because they are located in sacred ground, and the graves are currently painted white, which is supposed to be disrespectful to that land.

  11. ….sure hope chinaSMACK gets back to interesting topics again, someday.

  12. … I don’t get it?

  13. Chinese leadership at its best.

  14. Wow it is like painting the grass green to “beautify” the city.

Quotas quotas everything is quotas, keeping up appearance, and taking shortcuts.

My childhood apartment looks like shit with really bad paint and really need some maintenance. Grandparents told me people came and painted the apartments before the Beijing Olympics, and the cover-up paint didn’t last long after the games were done. Same shit here, only more disgusting.

  15. how the hell did you find that clause? Do you obscure Chinese law books in your library?

  16. I thought they just wanted to destroy any old un-used graves … aka graves that are just there now, with no one visiting.

In another word, I thought they were getting rid of the “old”, and the only way to figure out which ones are the old ones, they need ppl to pain the “in used” ones green.

  17. Any university of some merit in the USA would have a law book for all major countries.

  18. I was happy never knowing that.

  19. indeed. Rastamon Chant somewhere in alla that.

  20. No, you definitely need Journey’s Don’t Stop Believin, then when the kickin’ guitar solo starts up they slide the boat out into the water.

  21. Korpiklaani??!! No way! Finntroll all the way!! :)
