KTV Security Guard Group Beating In Hunan Chenzhou

KTV security guards beating customers in Hunan, China.

From Baidu Tieba:

Hunan Chenzhou Imperial Cashbox KTV [or "Royal Bank" KTV] cuts customer’s wrist vein true video

On the night of 2010 March 24, several patrons at Hunan province’s Chenzhou city Imperial Cashbox KTV had a dispute with the KTV [staff], and were publicly beaten up by KTV security in the lobby.

At this time, the video has been viewed nearly 1.2 million times.

Comments from Baidu Tieba:

1.119.39.87.*:

The so-called bosses of entertainment venues these days all have the same attitude. If there is any problem, first hit. After hitting, the boss will resolve it. Which is just compensating with a bit of money only. The law/law enforcement should investigate criminal liability in this kind of thing.

2.124.229.17.*:

Group fight…
Fuck, such pussies. Go one against one…

3.113.105.156:

When going out, one needs to avoid being arrogant/cocky. This society’s anti-rich sentiment is already very severe. It is better being a bit more low-key.

4.222.242.183:

Qie, where was the wrist vein/tendon cut, it was all using rods to hit [so cannot cut], what a SB post title, trying to attract people’s attention?

5.58.241.108:

They’re security guards and they’re attacking so arrogantly, attacking over and over again, the Cashbox boss must be really wealthy or really powerful to allow this kind of group beating incident to happen!!!! The attackers must be punished severely!!!!

6.60.12.188:

With the video going on so long, did all the police die [where are the police]? Tell that public security bureau chief [police chief] to go eat shit.

7.60.190.78:

We can only say they can hope for the best, because in China, this is nothing. This is the [king's] law.

8.221.208.79:

Fuck, fucking bullshit! This is my first time cussing. Was that attacking in public? If the person lying down was his relative, his own parents, would he be this heartless? Does he have any conscience left? Fuck, giving birth to him only for him to be this kind of scum! The scum of humanity!

9.123.68.218:

Fuck, simply inhuman~ so many people attacking just a few~ even hitting women~ what kind of behavior is this? ~ And attacking so long without the police arrive~ the police chief should be dismissed~~ otherwise Chenzhou’s public security will be too lousy and people’s safety not safeguarded.

10.222.247.96:

Strongly hope to know the truth of the situation! Hope someone who can provide the truth of the situation will come forth and share! No matter what the truth is, I feel there is no safety with over ten minutes and no police showing up? What are the police up to/where have the police gone? Don’t they say on television that police are dispatched quickly?

11.58.244.111:

Truly too angry, no matter what reason, this kind of bloody scene is not something our harmonious society should have, a bunch of scum, and the police are dogs.

12.123.87.66:

What do you guys know? This is black society [organized crime, triad, mafia]. As for what faction/gang I do not know, but I bet they help watch over this KTV.
At least, I’ve lived amongst this kind of society in the past…

For more information about this incident, you can see this translation of a KDNet post (a BBS forum) by EastSouthWestNorth. Here is a sample:

When the other security guards saw their manager wrestling with someone, they came over to help. So did the two younger brothers of Cui. There were injuries on both sides during the melee. But Cui’s action drew the ire of the security manager who summoned more security guards. Under his order, more than a dozen uniformed guards armed with steel rods rushed over.

These newcomers arrived in the lobby and hit Cui’s group on the heads, arms and bodies with their steel rods. Since they were armed and many, the Cui group were bloodied. The lobby was locked down so nobody could get out. The security guards continued their assault under the direction of their manager.

During the confusion, someone used a sharp object to cut the vein in Cui’s right hand, causing blood to pour on his hand and on the ground. Cui was forced onto the sofa in the middle of the lobby. His cousin Li Ming was trying to catch a respite on the other side of the sofa.

But their nightmare did not stop as the security guards began another round of assault. Although Cui was lying injured on the ground, they did not let up. The surveillance video showed one guard hitting him with a steel rod, another guard kicking his body and a third guard punching his head. Cui’s girlfriend was crying and pleasing: “Please don’t hit him anymore. He’s going to die!” She used her body to shield Cui from more vicious beating.

At 20:56, the relentless beating had gone on for almost 8 minutes. A Royal Bank owner finally arrived at the scene. Under his order, the assault was temporarily halted. But as he took the security guards out, the security manager suddenly came back and began hitting a semi-conscious person on the sofa. The other security guards returned and continued their assault with steel rods.

Their behavior made the Royal Bank owner angry. He yelled at the security guards and ordered them to stop. This gave some breathing room to Cui’s group. Cui’s girlfriend used her dress to stop Cui’s bleeding. But within two minutes, the security manager rushed back to the sofa and continued to hit Cui and Li Ming regardless of the owner’s order.

woot this is why when I go to KTV I just plan to relax on the sofa. but seriously I don’t mess with any kind of bao an, they know how to get down.

Savages! I have noticed in this country that people have a ‘pack’ mentality. They never fight unless the odds are stacked against their opposition.

It’s no wonder a smaller numbered military force( i won’t say who) was successful here.

    • http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rape_of_nanjing That Chinese Kid

You are talking about the Japanese. The Japanese had the smallest number go in, to cause the greatest damage. They saw China weak and defenseless after inner turmoil to step in and raid. Raping women, impaling children, and forcing the Chinese to commit atrocities.

If China had a ‘pack’ mentality, it would fuck Japan over many times for the unimaginable war crimes it committed. China has superior military against the Japanese defensive force.

You are also saying Japan is successful in China. How are the Japanese successful? Successful in acting like animals towards other humans? Successful in washing the streets of Nanjing with blood? Successful in killing innocent women and children? Successful in mutilating and raping women, pregnant, old and young? TELL ME WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS BULLSHIT FUCKING MILITARY FORCE SUCCESSFUL FOR.

      • Alex

That’s because the chinese are pussies. A ‘pack’ mentality is one that only operates through overwhelming strength. The japanese are pretty much the opposite, they fight to the death against overwhelming odds.

If the japanese tried that crap in russia, the u.s or some south american nation they’d probably get their ass handed back to them.

I don’t know it just seems like your average saturday night bumrush. Underpaid jackasses working for a goon style boss no doubt looking for their chance to wack somebody with a billy club. If this was the states they’d get sued for 20 million so thats why shit like this doesn’t happen in our so called “civilized” society. Other than that I can only say I’ve rarely seen a one on one fight in China.

  • http://imgur.com/gGpso.png PUSAN PLAYA

I don’t say this often but this isn’t just Chinamen being uncivilised as they usually are

Security guards are the same all over the world, they’re like cops except even bigger cocksuckers. They were too stupid or crazy to be cops but they still like the idea of wearing a uniform and pushing people around.

    • Slanty

So predictable. The usual drones jump in with their anti-China tirade. Here’s a news flash for you ignorants: it happens the world over. Ever been to Australia anyone? Happens all the time. Security guards always team up when one of them gets in a conflict. It’s part of the procedure. And in Sydney if you’re not careful bikies will take you out.

how about the Japanese were successful in WINNING. They came, they Conquered

hey Chinese kid. you finding this difficult to understand? Yes I know it is sad. even with a population a hundred times the size of the Japanese invasion force China could not defend itself. I guess it does not help when officers run away and let the civs defend themselves.

a terrible part of history I know.

    • http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rape_of_nanjing That Chinese Kid

another ignorant fellow. refer to my post above.

Japan saw a weakened force, and jumped on it like a ravenous dog. How exactly did the Japanese win? What have they won? The satisfaction of raping, and murdering defenseless people? Tell me what did they win.

Most of the Chinese were PEASANTS. They are not bloody war mongers that raid other country for land and resources. China does have a lot of land, but how many percent is habitable.

Do you even know what sad is? Sad is not losing to a superior force. Sad is the blood millions have bled, sad is the tears millions have wept, sad is the everyday knowing your loved ones would not come back. That is what sad is.

    • dontDoIt

you’re both wrong and you people having these stupid arguments never mention the elephant in the room standing next to you. mao. when are chinese going to stop blaming japan for all woes and psychological problems? is there a serious discussion that won’t eventually involve what japan did to china 80 YEARS AGO. it’s like, “china has a serious pollution problem that is making their population sick and the solution could be …” “NO….IT’S JAPAN’S FAULT!!!!!!!!!!!!” , “um…but I’m just trying to focus on today not 1938. “NO…NANJING!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’ll FUCKING KILL PEOPLE RIGHT NOW.” “uh…ok…sure….let’s sit down and relax. you’re only an 10 year old little girl. have a sip of warm chocolate milk and watch this hello kitty video”. “NO!!! I’ll FUCKING KILL YOU TOO, WITH MY CELL PHONE THAT MAO INVENTED!!!!!” and when are chinese gonna get some history books instead of this continuing mao cartoon history lesson that has most of china pissed off at the world? don’t chinese know not all of japan wanted to do nanjing? don’t chinese know that japanese citizens protested when they heard the news? don’t they know that the military leader in nanjing went nuts and his actions were not authorized and went against orders? (i do agree his superior officer did want to control china which was wrong, and he did not do anything to stop the insanity, but it was not his superior’s desire to go completely insane over there). yes it’s true that japan’s military became sick and twisted but there is a lot of evidence now to show many refused to act that way (some were executed by their own military for refusing crazy orders from crazy leaders). if chinese people had access to free information, they’d see that tokyo newspapers had evil and good stories. yes, it’s true japanese citizens enjoyed reading of the barbaric conquests but many people in japan were outraged by the actions of their crazy parts of their military. but like in germany, fear won over so some people became to afraid to speak up too loudly. more importantly, don’t chinese know that mao said he let japan sweep in to china so they would weaken kmt to make it easier for mao to rule over kmt? mao is responsible for ALL of china’s woes, from his rise to power until now. mao invited the japanese in (not officially, of course!) then watched them go nuts while doing nothing to stop it. mao killed one hundred times more chinese than japan did. mao is the greatest trickster in human history. he had a plan with japan to split up china. look it up. don’t chinese get google over there…er…never mind. mao had 3 or 4 of the dumbest ideas in human history and the effects are still felt today. you can still see his influence clearly. or if you believe in reincarnation, mao is back as kim jong il in n. korea. take a good look at that crazy bugger in n. korea. he is EXACTLY what mao was. can you imagine if he had nukes and a billion people? and what does modern china do about it? nothing, except stand up for n. korea against the world. huh? what? why don’t they do anything about n. korea? because they were raised to be little mao’s and many of today’s leaders were alive and well when mao was leader. maybe the leaders have secret man love for kim. kim even tries to imitate mao’s look, military fashion, society. take a good look at the dick head in north korea. THAT’s what mao was. a dick head. a limp dick head. that’s all he was yet his dick still impresses young chinese. i met a female chinese scientist once who was (is) really brilliant and been all over the world living in ny, paris, and san francisco over various times. didn’t want to go back to china and cried when she had to. yet one day she says to me “don’t you think mao was cute?” when she showed me an old book she had. i looked at her like “this is a joke, right”. but i saw the look on her face. she was totally serious. i said “he looks like fucking frog.”. she laughed. but then she got pissed. she literally had a little girl love on an old dead guy that sent her parents to slave labor camps. i did have to say to myself “mao…you are a master brain washer. look at this modern chinese girl still talking about you and having girl love for you.”. i couldn’t resist and said to her “well, thank…GOD… that some han chinese escaped mao and established taiwan”. her eyes burned with rage. if she had a metal rod and 20 friends i would have been beaten the same as these poor bastards were. “taiwan is OURS” she shrieked. “so, you would have prefered taiwan to have been like north korea and mao’s china? ” “no…i wouldn’t…but taiwan is still ours!”. and finally, kids…did you know that mao could NOT speak mandarin? he tought mandarin was stupid. the history books will tell you he was a peasant so couldn’t learn proper mandarin but he never bothered to learn the language of 900 million people he ruled with a stern, violent hand. it’s true. he was a proud hunan boy always. when i told the chinese scientist this, she thought i was being a smart ass. until she looked it up on google and wrote me an email “i guess you were right. mao did not speak mandarin. wow. that is really surprising to me”. i sent her a picture of a frog in my return email saying “right. it’s logical if you think about it. because, do frogs speak mandarin?” aaah. i feel better. i like coming her to write epic rants. haha, mao. there is nothing you can do about it. i won!!

I LOVE YOUR RANT! my parents are also saying “mao zhe dong this…mao zhe dong that” and im like “he brought communism into China and you think that’s good? are u crazy?” cuz to me, im american born chinese so i have the “american mind” (something my parents always say about me) but they have the “un-educated, stupid, old fashioned mind” (no offence mom and dad) cuz both of my parents didnt even make it past 6th grade so….VERY UNEDUCATED and even if they were, chinese teachers would probably say mao zhe dong is “the hero of china” it’s so stupid (and lol at the whole frog thing). also i also agree that not all japanese people are “evil”, and people (asians, especially my parents) say that “westerners” are racist and they always discriminate against asians but u know what? asians discriminate against eachother. we all hate eachother (politically) and WHY? because of IGNORANCE!

  • Big K

Below is the first part of the write-up from ESWN.

“At just past 5pm on March 24, 2010, the Chenzhou entrepreneur Cui Yuanping booked a suite at the Royal Bank KTV on Qingnan Road. After having dinner, he and his friends came to the suite, which they found to be too small. So Cui went to the front desk and ask for a larger room (specifically, Suite 236).

However, Suite 236 was already booked and therefore the receptionist turned Cui down. Since Cui had a few drinks during dinner, he insisted on getting Suite 236. That was when the dispute began.

During the argument, the receptionist said sarcastically: “Here, the boss is whosoever has the money. So I want to reserve the room for someone else. What can you do?!” Losing face publicly in front of his friends and relatives, Cui picked up an object from the reception desk and threw it at the receptionist. He was also about to charge over and hit her. But she picked up a stool and hit Cui. This made Cui mad and wanted to hit her. The security manager at the front desk went up to stop him, and a physical struggle ensued.

When the other security guards saw their manager wrestling with someone, they came over to help…”

I’m not saying that the guys attitude was worthy of this response, but I can see where if I was the security manager and some little shop owner high on himself tried to start crap, I’d get a little upset and have an itching to smack him around a bit.

These guys deserved the beating.. been to Cashbox a few times and most time, customers are always seen shouting at the cashbox employees just because their couldn’t get their room on time.. I was once told that you need to shout at the front desk before they give you priority in getting a room..
So, many chinese thinks they have the cash and they can climb over everybody else..

      • Comrade Kim

Not really. I mean, a well-timed racist insult *can* throw your opponent off-balance, but really it’s not substitute for a fuck-off great big stick.

  • LOLZ

Gee, is there a more sympathetic side here? You get a drunk, obnoxious customer who probably thinks that he is the shiznit cuz he a little money, and then the security guards who are used to treat people like crap.

This guy is lucky these guards didn’t kill him like the Walmart security did last Sept.

And people here stop pretending the Chinese security guards act any differently than your average cop from places like US and the UK. Security people are usually your average school bullies who always picked on guys who are smaller than they are but are afraid to tackle the bigger targets. Private security are the worst because there is zero qualification whatsoever to be one, but official police are not much better. They are mostly corrupt and have power trips. The pack mentality is their standard way of dealing with things.

    • Rick in China

Mmm…..while there may be little difference in the education or mentality of security guards worldwide, there is something called civil lawsuits which kinda….reign in and control the severity of abuse.

Everyone should see this news footage first before making your judgment. The news clip show the footage of the customer along with his cohorts physically beating the female front desk clerk and when the security manager came to stop the fighting he was beaten by the customer and his friends. I can only say that the security manager and his crew should get punished, but the customer that got beat up certainly got what he deserved, have no sympathy for people like him.

Thank you for the background info WYA, this confirms my suspicion that buddy lined himself up for a beating. I thought it was overkill, but after seeing him and his friends beat on a front desk girl?? I’d say it’s justice. The pipe wielding peasants aren’t heros, but I feel they’re much more justified in laying out a beating now that there’s some background info as to why this happened.

Step 1: Find a bunch of village boys.
Step 2: Take them through a security guard training program that really only teaches them kung fu and never how to resolve conflict in a civil matter.
Step 3: Let them have knives, rods, and spiked clubs.
Step 4: Watch as they regularly attack the wrong people when breaking up a fight, stab someone who isn’t physically violent, or do something else completely jacked up and inappropriate.

I’m still surprised there aren’t more lawsuits for this sort of thing, as is the average baowuguan is just a synonym for thug or gang… and let’s not forget that when somebody actually breaks and enters or steals your bicycle the baowuguan is never around to unleash their whoop arse. :-/

  • Fake Popcorn

It’s all fun and games until someone dies. These thugs don’t know what they are doing until it’s too late when that guy dies and then these thugs face execution. Then mommy and daddy come on television telling everyone how good of a boy their son is and he should be spared.

  • FYIADragoon

Fauna, I think the way you’ve portrayed this incident, makes it seem like it was the KTV’s fault. They went overboard a bit, yes. BUT, the guy who was being beaten was at fault. Read the full posting of what happened, and you see that the first one to “throw a punch” was the guy who ended up being a victim. And he threw an object at a FEMALE RECEPTIONIST. I mean damn, you can’t just yell at her instead? I bet this hothead won’t try to pull this shit again.

And durr hurr he was drunk, he couldn’t help it, isn’t a good enough excuse for the way he acted. They shouldn’t have gone this far to punish him, but the initial part of the video where he’s getting ganged up on while he’s still standing was justified. He shouldn’t be biting off more than he can chew. But the part where they came in with the steel rods was unnecessary and the actions afterward were unnecessary.

Are you high??? Someone does something like that you throw them out. You don’t gang-stomp them. This is pack mentality and is very dangerous. At what point did this situation get out of control, in your opinion? Oh, when the steel rods came out? lol, really??? What about when the guy was pushed into the glass and cut his arm severely? Head stomps? As you can see later on in the video, with the mood the security was in, it didn’t really matter what you did… if you got in their way, you got stomped.

Saying “he was drunk, he couldn’t help it” would be the plaintiff’s (if there was to be one) excuse is beyond retarded.

      • FYIADragoon

No, actually I was assuming it would be your (insert angered netizen here who would eventually respond) excuse. And you don’t think its an issue that this guy was throwing shit at people because they wouldn’t bend the rules for him? You think a time-out is going to teach him a lesson? He ganged up on the Security Manager before the Manager got back-up. He had some of this coming. He didn’t deserve to get his veins cut or get beaten like a Japanese festival drum, but seriously, someone needed an ass-whipping. You think people should just get away with this kind of stuff or something? I just wish this guy could have had his ass beat sooner in a smaller situation with less violence so he wouldn’t have to get bloodied up this bad to learn to watch his actions.

        • hitman

I so agreed with you.. these 2 guys deserved it.. the only way to teach these folks a lesson is not to walk away but walk towards them..

  • j lo

All I know is that people in China love to bitch out the customer service, whether it be waiters, desk clerks, cashiers, airport attendees. The haves like to step on the have nots. The people who whooped their ass were the sons and brothers of all those people they’ve been abusing. It’s karma. You step on them and they will now stomp the shit out of you.

    • Gaaad!!!

And is that any different from anywhere else?

      • shanghai girl

i’ve never seen people freak out at customer service to the extent i see it in china. and in most countries (that i’ve been to), when people do raise their voice to a waitress or receptionist, it is looked down upon by everyone else around them, as they’re making a jack-ass out of themselves. here it seems to be a status thing for people born to wealthy families, like “look what i can get away with” for their friends and girlfriends.

    • lolz

Ya, you get shit like that where you have bad income distribution. I have seen worse treatment of servants by Indians (towards other Indians), Taiwan/Hong Kong/Singapor-ians (towards filipinos) and Arabs (ironically towards the Indians).

But what people don’t realize is that in the 80s before the whole communist transition into capitalist system services in China was terrible. People back then don’t bitch at all because it was nearly impossible for state owned enterprises to fire people even if others complained.

  • squad up

This is wrong on many sides… but in NY a beating like this and for so long, the parking lot would definitely be shot up. I dont like violence but some people i know would definitely take it to the mattress, mos def after seeing the tape or aftermath. Do that shit to one of your boys and calls are being made and security guards are being followed home on a quiet weekday night

  • Nono

None of these guys would stand a chance on their own. None of them know how to fight, they hit like girls. It is only because they r in a group that they feel strong. As they say; power is in groups, especially if they have sticks ;)

  • fireworks

Security guards/bouncers in some countries need to have police clearance and have crowd controller licenses. If they are found to be not crowd controlling and join in on the fight and cause serious injury, they could face jail time or lose their security license.

but then again, there are always a few clowns and jerks who will piss off all the patrons and bouncers in night venues. These people will always be irritating and hard to deal with. They will get their heads crack by the looks of this video.

  • 马甲

I think the most disturbing part of the video is really how it is like blood in the water once one person starts beating a guy. You can -literally- see the ripple effect through the crowd of 保安. They’re like piranhas.

As far as rights for criminals or people like this, every country has different standards. Even in war, America has standards they must abide by. We’re not allowed to use chemical weapons, or weapons designed specifically to maim. Yes, I’m sure the torture at Abu Gharib will be brought up… but it’s only shocking because America has such high standards in regard to the treatment of those caught on the wrong side of law/justice.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not condemning how China does business. In fact, I say ‘to each their own’. I’m probably in the minority when I say “What works for us, may not work for [insert country]. We shouldn’t force our ideals on someone else.” That applies to our definition of human rights, democracy or religious freedom.

  • True American

These are some really severe “security guards”! That is not maintaining control, that is pack mentality at best. Brutal personel welding steel pipes and swinging from the overhead angle. Those are death thrusts. Kicking someone who is down on the floor. What a bunch of cowards. I mean COWARDS!! I don’t care what country this is from. The are sissy boys, little fagaila’s, back stabbing lowlife pukes. Give me two real men that can fight and we will adjust all of their attitudes. Let them have their pipes if they want them. Also, the comment that nothing was there to cut a tendon, the edge of the pipe will slice and dice in a heartbeat.

  • jason

    FIRST:
We all know that chinese people are very afraid to fight one on one…you are cowards and i assure you that i can kick at least 5 of you asses.
    SECOND:
When you are rich…kep it to yourself…dont try to show it to other people

  • Kufos

  • richardkenedy

  • Fman

This is China, I’ve yet to see Chinese men fight like me, one on one and if they attempt to it looks more like some kind of sad dance. They’re quick to fight like a pack of dogs and always grab a weapon. This video shows the men at their best.

  • Ronon

wow… that girl was incredible. To use her body as a shield for the guy she loves, against an army of guys with steel rods…

Even tho this guy got beaten so bad, I really envy him for having such an amazing girlfriend…

  • Chunky52695

shaking my head…this is just horrible, why would anybody want to do that? it’s already horrible that one person would do it, and now there’s a mob(a whole group of people…um i mean MONSTERS!) beating up a person, i am ashamed to even call myself chinese….

  • Laurent Coq

HAHAHAHA!!! where is the Kung-Fu??! Really??!
