US Military’s “The Warrior Song”, Chinese Netizens Reactions

An American soldier.

From KDS:

This song is truly too impressive/awesome, the American military nakedly showing off

Showing off one’s strength shouldn’t be like this, nakedly promoting killing. emoticon
The American military’s recruitment song “The Warrior Song“.

Troops are meant to invade.
All day talking about peace, peace your sister. emoticon

On YouTube:

Can’t see the above video?

Comments from KDS:

约翰117:

Being a solider in America is one of the few jobs in the world where you can travel the entire world killing people for free.
And what more, it’s all legal. emoticon The precondition is that you are responsible for your own life, although most of the time it is you murdering others, because your equipment is so much better than the other side’s. emoticon

约翰117:

[A military, referring to China's military] that would rather destroy large amounts of expired ammunition than bear to give them to soldiers to practice with…
what use is this kind of military?
And yet [this military] still has the face to go escort [ships to protect them such as from pirates].
In the end, their task is always only to go pick up sailors that were released after being ransomed. emoticon

cp935:

Watched it, very domineering/cocky [aggressive?]. emoticon

上山打虎:

Americans like to kill people around the world. Very democratic, very human rights [a joke similar to this internet meme].

本地土著:

The purpose of an army is supposed to be killing people, discussing peace is the job of the politicians. It would be great the day our army can be this domineering/cocky, as long as it doesn’t oppress its own citizens.

梦遗桥廊:

Our military recruitment advertisements are very impressive/respectable too. emoticon

Chinese military formation: greeting the commander

约翰117:

I’ve heard this song’s melody in many films before, [but] the lyrics are always changing.
This RIP [I think he means "rap"] version is the most impressive one I’ve heard so far.

It’s almost to the level of the German SS’s “The Mass“.
This makes me feel like playing COD7 again. emoticonemoticon

无册无拉:

You guys [Americans] have The Warrior Song, we have The River Crab Song.

Comments from China.com:

欧阳教主仙福永享:

Inspiring, this is exactly the kind of song soldiers should sing.

凯撒大爹:

hahaha! Run into China’s People’s Liberation Army and you’ll be sorry!!! [sarcasm]emoticon

正日金二:

There is no politics in the song and only national interest, and yet it is extremely stirring!

凯撒大爹:

America’s military cannot be compared with China’s soldiers! In terms of not fearing death, there isn’t a single country’s soldiers who can compare to China’s soldiers! This song definitely sounds like it was tailor-made for China’s soldiers!!! [sarcasm]

六级士官:

This is not a recruitment song, it’s just a popular song by a band/music group, a dark humor song. Which band/music group I don’t remember, but it is a few years old now~

级别:

Mighty American imperialism!!!!!!

太平洋飓风:

We need to be more like American imperialism. I await conquering the world!

以下是蕴峰在:

MGBD, Chinese just have to blow a little horn and this bunch of stupid cunts will be piss in their pants. [sarcasm]

扑向蓝冥冥的天空:

Army songs should be like this, murderous/ferocious, much better than the army songs of certain countries that are all about their mommies.

The above commenter 六级士官 also posted these images:

    • Col Bob

I think “Die, Mother F*cker, Die” by the band Dope would have been a better choice for recruiters to use. If this song inspires soldiers, that would send them into a Beserker rage!

      • johnnywalkerchang

now that’s some war-making music for my ears… should switch the song and see what they think.

chinese ppl are fucked for there above commentsw…they dont know what it takes to be part of the military specially of the US…however, US soldiers do…this song is nothing more then some soldier expressing his own feelings this isnt the actual training recruitment song…u chinks are fucked up if u think that…get a grip u dumb bastards….jesus christ

    • SLX

What it takes to be part of the military of the US? Bunch of cry babies….
Proves you have no idea what the Chinese army goes through + the pay they get compared to the US minus the filthy desires to rip out some arab gutz

    • Fort

YOU FAIL SO HARD USAARMYAREPUSSYS WITHGUNS!

    • J. Li

Yeah of course no other army has it harder than the US Army, what with their adequate pay and rations that actually taste good. I mean look at the Korean War, the Chinese definitely ran away like little pussies back then eh? Oh wait no they didn’t, the PLA stood their guard and was never pushed back behind the 38th parallel, you yank fatass cunt.

      • Pvt. Joker

Dumbshit, American military will crush your conscripted PLA. Better equipment, better training and most definitely better moral.

You guys may have more in numbers but we can still crush you through better tactics and superior technology. Most of your army are full of bullies and lack discipline. When the shit goes down, all we are gonna see are your asses running from the field. You are lucky this President won’t blow your country back to Qing dynasty.

        • Bob

Damn, conscripted PLA with worse equipment, training, and most definitely worse moral caused the longest retreat in US military history, from one end of North Korea to the other.

          • Peter

True – but how many young Chinese boys had to die to make that happen? (Just so the DPRK could have 50 years of misery and starvation and blame it on everybody but themselves).

          • USAF

They pretty much had to zerg rush the korean peninsula to push US forces back. Just look at the casualties on the Chinese side, it was a game of numbers. Today, the PLA wouldnt stand a fucking chance.

        • Chunghwa

          >PLA
          >conscripted

          pick one.

        • Arness

Yeah mate, is that like USA said about blowing the North Vietnam back into the stone age? Cool!!!

      • outcast

Only because the US was not willing to have another total war. It was a distant adventure, something your average blue collar worker would read about in the morning paper over a big breakfast before driving his shiny new Ford (or GM) car to work. There was no rationing, no full mobilization, none of that that we saw in World War 2.

Now if the US threw its entire industry into the war, the PLA would never have stood a chance. Look at all the damage the japanese did, and the american army was far more powerful plus it had nukes.

      • Boom (aka John Rambo)

fuck you bitch, PLA vastly outnumbered Americans, but got their asses kicked bad. They suffered immense casualties at the hands of the outnumbered Americans… Over one million of Chinese alone, Bitch!

      • http://www.foarp.blogspot.com FOARP

“the PLA stood their guard and was never pushed back behind the 38th parallel”

Jesus. Is it just too much to ask that you actually, you know, check the dumb-ass shit you write before you click on that “post comment” button? A little history lesson for you:

Mid-1950 – DPRK invades ROK, chases US/ROK army all the way back to Pusan

Late 1950 – US/UN/ROK army counter-attacks over the 38th parallel to the Chinese border

        Late 1950/Early 1951 – DPRK/PLA attack south, capturing Soul

        Mid-1951 – US/UN/ROK forces counter-attack north back over the 38th parallel.

Mid-1951 – PLA/DPRK attack south again, get their arses handed to them.

What is this garbage you write about the PLA “standing their guard”? As far as I can see the PLA hardly came out of the Korean war with a shining reputation.

    • Chad

Dopiate embodies the critical thinking, eloquence, and open-mindedness required in enlist in the US military.

      • brotherrivercrab

although I don’t agree with dopiate, but his crude troll statements are exactly what you want from your common foot soldier in a successful military.

You’re killing machine is not suppose think about how they should enjoy the beauty of a foreign culture, they are to blast it into pieces when ordered to do so.

        • Chad

A total lack of respect for the common people of the foreign country you’re invading isn’t helpful because it incites hatred against the occupiers. There’s many videos of American soldiers playing abusing locals by ramming their cars for no reason, playing stupid tricks on them like holding out food on a moving truck as hungry children chase them.

china never go look for trouble. did you ever see china interfere with any countries problems? china in war since WW2?

oh forgot this… your great america owes china billions of dollars. have fun paying tax for the rest of your life, just to repay china.

      • Alikese

Chinese people love to toss that out, “Oh, we’ve never invaded anyone. China is only interested in peace.” That’s bullshit, China invaded India in 1962 then invaded Vietnam in 1979.

China has their hands in Countries problems all across the world, from Zimbabwe to Cambodia to Venezuela. Don’t pretend that China doesn’t meddle in other “countries’ problems,” it’s blatantly untrue. Ask the people of Darfur if China has ever interfered with any countries’ problems.

        • jin

wow 1962 and 1979… then 1962 was because india tries to claim a land which belongs to tibet. while tibet is a part of china. and 1979 was because vietnam was mistreating the minority vietnam ethnic chinese. and occupation of Spratly Islands. which belongs to china. china only attacked them and gave them a warning. BOTH WARS ENDED IN 1 MONTH. china did not attack them any further after giving them a warning.
ok china did meddle with some countries. but what rich white country didnt? and america is still causing/starting wars. and i dont even want to say how many. cause its too many.

          • jin

oh and, what country would let other countries steal their land? and let chinese ethnic get mistreated in other country?
most reason america started a war. was because of greed.

oh alikese. its on wikipedia and several other internet sites i visited. http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/war/indo-prc_1962.htm india invaded and occupied 90,000 square kms of Chinese territories. where is your PROOF that all these information on the internet are lies? go study before you talk without any proof

          • bert

China attacked Vietnam because China’s buddy (Cambodia) was being given a hard time by Vietnam (Russia’s buddy).

China has always wanted to occupy Vietnam.

China’s claim to the area in the South China Sea is ridiculous and every Chinese knows it. This is Chinese mentality “we have a 4000 year history, so it is ours”

China also invaded and occupied a small Vietnam island in 1974 or 77, I forgot. China even agreed it was Vietnamese territory 100 years previously. So much for the word of China. China breaks treaties every time is changes it own ruling class.

          • Alikese

China invaded Indian territory (territory that it had agreed is Indian) because India accepted the Dali Lama after he was able to flee Tibet.

China had just invaded and taken over Tibet and they were trying to test where the borders were, whether they could push them back, and how strong the Indian army was.

      • Alex

Chinese Army fights for the party, not for its citizens, not for its country.

        • SLX

For party or what ever reason…. the party exist today because it was formed by the citizens who fight for the country during the Sino Jap war.
There’s nothing wrong with the original idea of Communism but it became corrupted by greed as the world became peaceful.

          • anon

Yes, there’s nothing wrong with the original idea of Communism (except that it is unrealistic). Yes, it became corrupted by greed (which exactly why it is unrealistic). Not sure about the world becoming peaceful part.

No, the Party (Communist) exists today because it was formed by the citizens who fought the OTHER party, the Kuomintang, the same party that did most of the fighting “for the country” against the Japanese.

          • Bob

“It allowed the KMT to be bloodied while it hid in reserve and rarely engaged the IJA at all.”

It engage in constant guerrilla warfare behind Japanese lines, which is why it is able to drum as much support as it did. It also engaged in the hundred regiment offensive, the resulting victory caused the Japanese to start their 3-all policy. Call the communists the opportunists they are, but Chiang Kai Shek initially ordered the nationalist troops to save strength to use against the communists. It was not until warlord Zhang Xueliang, who was getting blamed for Chiang’s policy to not engage the Japanese, staged a coup against Chiang did Chiang finally decide to form an alliance against the Japanese.

“Oh, and the irony of it, was that the CCP wasn’t formed by Chinese citizens, but by Stalin through the Communist International.”

In the early days of Sun Yat Sen’s revolution, the communists were allied with the nationalists against the warlords. Sun Yat Sen allowed the communists to form to receive aid from the Soviets after every western country rejected him. The initial break in the alliance was caused by the massacre of communist members in Shanghai under Chiang Kai Shek during his Northern expedition after Sun died. Saying Mikhail Borodin founded the CCP is like saying Marshall led the nationalists in the civil war.

“the CCP struck and renewed the civil war, ultimately driving out the nationalists.”

The break out of war between the communist and the nationalist was initiated when Chiang launched a large-scale assault to the Communist area with 113 brigades in July 1946.

          • http://www.killerjo.net Kenneth

            Bob,

I am sure you know nothing about the Yan’an Retification launched by Mao to cleanse the CCP and the Chinese population of anyone that disagree with him of Yan’an during the 1940s. It is estimated more than 10,000 were killed in the process, although the exact number is known given the CCP do not let any research done and it is only slowly uncovered during the recent decades.

Hundred Regiment Campaign is only a guerrilla campaign, and it is launched by General Peng Dehuai not Mao. In fact Mao hated Peng bitterly after that incident and persecuted him for disloyalty during the cultural revolution for this action. In fact, hundred regiment campaign is the only major CCP’s action until the Soviets arrived in 1945, and the CCP followed and pillage in its wake.

Japan’s policies throughout the war are usually three-alls anyways, and if you read Japanese historical texts, you noticed they never considered the Chinese communist army as enemy and some Japanese commanders even believed it is smarter thing to let the communist army go, given the Chinese Red army is known for attacking other Chinese formations (let it be militia or Kuomintang alike).

In fact during the war, Mao Zedong counted other Chinese army groups killed as enemy killed. And let it be known, most Kuomintang formations is smart enough to not get into CCP’s area, though most of the Chinese formations that were massacred were made up of ordinary Chinese resistance fighters with no affiliations but the Chinese public.

This are accounts I read from sources in Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, USA, Japan and etc. The PRC simply do not have a good historical record as they do not want many truths to be leaked out, hence, unless you read more about the outside world, I think you should refrain from commenting as if you are an expert on the Second Sino-Japanese War.

          • GodsHammer

The party fought the KMT during the ‘Sino Jap’ war and this ‘infighting’ largely is the reason for the ease with which the Japanese CONQUERED the country.

The party exists because peasants thought it more important to stab the ‘ruling class’ from behind whilst they were defending the country.

The party exists because the external pressures of fighting a military giant were so great that the small island of Japan had to concentrate it’s efforts elsewhere.

The party exists because Trueman ordered MacArthur to stop at the Chinese border even though he wanted to push on to Beijing.

So you see, it is indeed a miracle party. It has survived despite all odds. Wow.

    • Justin

I’m confused. Why mention the Winter Soldier project, which is about rejecting militarism and hate? The Winter Soldier project is a group of people who became conscientious objectors after they joined the military and saw the horrors they were being asked to commit in the name of freedom. And for every soldier who has a conscience there are about 5 who just want to kill and don’t feel bad about it at all.

Just FYI, this isn’t a recruitment song. It’s just a song by some individuals… nothing formal or sponsored by the military. It’s also too bloody and arrogant for my (and many other Americans’) tastes.

Sad to see Americans behaving/singing like this. It’ll be just as sad, someday, when China is powerful enough to act as awful as America has (though I think many Chinese look forward to this day… I think it will be awful… as it is now with the U.S.).

  • Chef Rocco

The song reminds me of what Samuel P. Huntington said about brute force of the West:

“The West won the world not by the superiority of its ideas or values or religion (to which few members of other civilizations were converted) but rather by its superiority in applying organized violence. Westerners often forget this fact; non-Westerners never do.”

  • Bryan

I once read an article about a group of PLA generals and other high-ranking staff officers who toured an US Army base (might have been Ft. Lewis, not sure). The one item that impressed them more than anything else was the natural patriotism, loyalty and ‘dedication to the job’ expressed by the soldiers on the base. Apparently such attributes need to be consistently drilled into members of the PLA on a regular basis and that unit nationalism and pride (believe it or not, I was surprised too) is difficult to maintain without constant vigilance and supervision (read: presence of political officers).

They wanted to know how the US military was able to foster such traits so effortlessly.

(I wish I could provide the link…it was a year or two ago).

    • Jay K.

yes I read this article also, was it an army base or usaf base, im not exactly sure but during that time they were doing military exchanges,

    • Jordan

It’s easy to maintain nationalism and pride when you’re number one in the world.

      • PCJR

Nope – all a show – Fort Lewis soldiers have been implicated in rapes, drugging underage girls (two died on base) and robberies at the UW in Seattle. Because the military offers jobs for uneducated inner city kids, the gangs have moved on base. The miltary is also an organization that is more apt to allow minorities to advance. But most can not overcome poor education and even worse upbringing.

When there are foreign generals, the best and the brightest are put on show. Better you think we are all “Rambo” and patriots, lest you figure out that the US Military has cracks in its armor.

BTW – I am an American Born White Dude who does not want my generation’s legacy to be “we came, we saw, we killed, we left, we lost” – I would prefer to have never had the fight take place.

BUT – the US system is better than the Chinese at improving the quality of a recruit. Also, the leadership (military) is very good at the mid levels. At the very top, there are issues, due to the politics as organizational dynamics, particularly with regard to ideaology and religion. (Christian Fudamentalism.)

    • D Head

You need to understand the USA military is not political. It is a tool of the government. Did you know that you do not need to be citizen of the USA to join to service? in fact you can gain citizenship my military service. The military reports to the President And not a committee. It is only a tool to be iced when required.

The troops do not make political judgements or have party affiliations. Your job is to not let your fellow brothers down in the unit and complete the mission.

  • Joe Miller

Just to clarify, this is NOT an official US military recruitment video. It comes from a small group of ultra-rightwing kooks who may or may not have ever been to war. Real “warriors” are not looking for war and do not glorify it. From a Vietnam veteran….

  • Justin

This song is disgusting and sick. It reeks of fascism. It’s really not that different from what the army uses at basic training. My brother was in the Army, some of the drills were like “What makes the grass grow tall?” And everyone screams “Blood! Blood! Blood!” another one was “A bunch of little kiddies in the grass so green, a perfect target for some jellied gasoline.”

I know it’s not an official recruitment song, but you can be damn sure a lot of soldiers will be playing it through their headphones inside their tanks along with “The Roof is on Fire” by the Bloodhound Gang.

I think a lot of soldiers are good people who just want to go to college (like my brother) and some who honestly believe that the army’s job is to protect the country rather than dominate and exploit another country. But I also know from experience that the rest are immature idiotic jackasses with no scruples and they ended up in the army because it was the only place where they would get to kill someone and not get sent to jail for it.

  • Fleecer

The sheer hypocrisy of this has forced me to respond:

Arise! All who refuse to be slaves! (EXCEPT SLAVES FOR OUR LEADERS!)
Let our flesh and blood forge into our new Great Wall! (ALL CHINESE PEOPLE FORM A HUMAN SHIELD AROUND OUR LEADERS!)
As the Chinese people faces its greatest peril,
Every person’s forced to expend their very last cry. (KILL YOURSELF FOR YOUR LEADERS!)
Arise! Arise! Arise! (GET OUT OF THE NET BAR AND FIGHT!)
    Million hearts beat as one,
Brave the enemy’s fire, March on! (DON’T FEAR DEATH FOR YOUR LEADERS!)
Brave the enemy’s fire, March on!
March on! March on! On! (YES, MARCH LIKE SOLDIERS!)

I find China far more militaristic than America, except America acts upon their words, China is simply all bark and no bite.

Even when ordinary Chinese were demanding China do something and take more action against Japan, Beijing just clamped down on their own people.

    • anon

What “sheer hypocrisy” are you speaking of?

    • Justin

Militarism is as militarism does. How can you say China is “more militaristic” given that they don’t invade a new country every 4 years or so? Also compare arms spending in terms of GDP and China pales in comparison.

Yes, because the US Army, just like the British and French Army are professional armies, not conscription. So it is a well paid job that offers lots of benefits. Most people think the army is just guns and tanks, but they are completely wrong, you can be a plumber, electrician, accountant, fire fighter, or even a nurse in the army.

Woah, that video is no different than propaganda posters from the Cultural Revolution. Surely that’s not officially sanctioned by the American military?

How can you do hand to hand combat anymore with the state of weaponry being what it is today? Paratroopers? Are they going to fight WWII again? Did it even work then? The army is a bunch of generals calling shots, a couple of guys doing the fun stuff like flying shit and jumping out of planes, some other guys programming bombs to kill muslims and the other 95% of ‘soldiers’ are just guys wearing camo to clean the other 5%’s toilets while they bask in the artificial light of glory cast by military propaganda.

I don’t. If I did what would they tell me?

        • mankouzanghua

They would tell you what specifically they do as part of engaging in a war. Out of three friends who were deployed to Iraq and/or Afghanistan, two did raids and one did problem-shooting for the computers on planes that acquire targets. It would make no sense for a single soldier to be shipped out for the purpose of cleaning toilets without anything else to contribute, whether that be some skilled training or just the ability to fight.

On the subject of soldiers acting like dumb kids with guns: Remember, a lot of these guys are 18 to 25 years old. A lot of those also chose the military because they didn’t have a lot else going for them. For the most part, it definitely helps them financially. Pay is decent, benefits are pretty good. However, in combat, they’re human beings just like anyone else. I can hardly keep from firing wildly at everything that moves in a game of paintball. I imagine actual combat, with real bombs and bullets, would be much worse. I’m not exactly sure of how accurate and controlled I’d be with my .50 caliber machine gun if I was simultaneously shitting in my pants. I’d just be thankful for the high protein MRE diet making sure it’s nice, solid bullets that I could easily dump out of my boots in a neat little pile afterwards.

It’s sad and convenient that many Mainland Chinese forgot or dismissed USA military bailing China.

For that, China should forgive the USA $800+ billion debt as a tribute to the lives and $$$ that the USA spent on removing Japanese pests from China.

    • Chad

Yeah, and the US and China also fought against each other after that in a war or did you forget? I know it’s hard to believe, but former friends can become enemies. We don’t bash the crap out of Germany today for what they did in WW2, and the Americans don’t really seem that grateful to the French these days. Boohoo.

    • plasticvicar

small error there, the US government bailed out the nationalist chinese (taiwan), who often used US weapons and money against their fellow communist countrymen more than they did against the invading japanese.

the commies fought on their own and won on their own in both WW2 and the civil war afterwards. if you want thanks, ask the taiwanese because you aint gonna get any love from the mainlanders.

      • http://baihaifeng.blogspot.com Dr. Jones Jr.

Correction: You mean the commies fought with Russian weapons and money, and won–the civil war–because the KMT did most of the WWII fighting (with US weapons and money).

Doesn’t look like Mao’s China was all that grateful to Russia either, once Russia decided to cut off its arms/factory supply, so we shouldn’t be too surprised that they aren’t grateful to anyone else that helped them out. Mao was very good at taking credit for other people’s work.

If 5000 americunt sailors and soldiers lose their life in an blink of an eye, 5000 families will cry for their obese sons, who died while playing soldiers and topple the president who send them to their deaths.

    • http://www.foarp.blogspot.com FOARP

“Democracies cannot into wars and lose massive people.”

Yeah. That’s exactly why the democratic countries of Britain, France, and Italy spent four years at war with the German Empire , losing millions of dead, only for the Germans to throw in the towel.

      • http://baihaifeng.blogspot.com Dr. Jones Jr.

Seconded. He forgot a qualifier: Democracies cannot get into wars and lose massive numbers of people *when* those wars are seen as unjust and/or unnecessary.

While I do believe that an invasion of mainland China would fit the bill of “unjust and/or unneeded”, that would be conditional on whether China decides to invade another country first (even Taiwan).

As a die-hard Democrat who has met and talked with Kurds, I can understand both sides of the conflicted American response to the Iraq war–the main problem being that Bush never built a case for going to war with Iraq that would convince more than about half the country, particularly given that we were already at war in Afghanistan. Don’t make the mistake of applying that conflicted response to situations (like WW2) where fighting has a strong justification that appeals to most sectors of society.

To quote Matthew Polly from his book “American Shaolin”, “Even the gay, Buddhist monks will fight you!” If his statement applies to China, the same applies to America (or any other country) should China give them reason. Pacifist hippies will throw down their bongs and pick up rocket launchers should you give them sufficient justification to do so.

  • D Head

The people of china need to understand that the warriors in the video were all volunteers and not forced to join the military. Neither did they attend a three week bull shit military training class before they stated the university this fall. This is a very determined group of people that are very motivated to get the job done.

I am an American who was in Iraq and work in China. I love China and the Chinese people, but you need to understand that the military is used by the American government to look after the USA governments interests and enforce it will on the world. Do not blame the soliders of the USA for being pawns in the game. They are people who get the job done and as an added bonus you get to blow shit up.

Everywhere in China I see military license plates on very high end cars. I ask myself how can an officer in the PLA have such a nice automobile, not pay tolls, and park anywhere on the street. In the USA such a military officer would be dismissed. I think you need to take a hard look at the motivation of the military.

  • Richard Wang

I once saw two groups of ants fighting. One group was like super ants. They were bigger, more aggressive and stronger than the opponent. They bit their enemies in half with one bite. Their opponents were tiny and weak, but there were many of them. The battle lasted about 10 minutes. I couldn’t tell which side won. All I saw was the ground littered with dead ants.
Sun Tze said the best way to resolve conflict is not through war.
If Aliens were looking at the US Army what do they see. A pure, efficient killing machine. So what? People design, build and use machines. Once the machine has served its purpose it is disgarded at the curb.
A truly great army operate out of compassion, truth, justice and ideals. They kill only as a last resort and only when it serve a righteous purpose. It is easy to win a battle, much harder to win a war, and harder still to win the hearts and minds of the ppl. Look at Afghanastan, Korea, Vietnam. Technologically superior forces are pushed back because they are regarded as invaders on foreign soil. Might does not make Right and Right alway prevail at the end.

  • http://kvaadk.livejournal.com Kevin Killiany

I haven’t read all 138 comments, so someone may have already said this: That song was released by a band named “Scandal” in the 1980s. I may be wrong, but I think they were Canadian. Certainly had nothing to do with the US military. They also had a female lead singer, Patty Smyth (or Smythe, I forget) whom I don’t hear singing in this song. She wrote this and a lot of other rock tunes. While there are a couple of pictures of General Patton, famous for his tactical brutality in WWII Europe, the voice promising destruction to enemies is that of George C. Scott, who played Patton in a romanticized biographic movie in 1970 or 1972 (again, age and memory do not mix.)

    • Justin

LOL. I hope your joking. That is a completely different song. That is an 80s pop song. “Shooting with the guns of heartache Bang!Bang! I am the warrior.” From your picture you look old enough to remember that, or maybe it was after your time.

      • http://kvaadk.livejournal.com Kevin Killiany

No joke. Just really, really wrong.

I’m closing in on 60, so even the George C. Scott movie (I got that part right) was after I was out of college. I’m a visual thinker, I was a photographer for many years, and I remember Scandal’s Warrior album cover. Multiple long exposure (tricky in the days before digital), florescent wash against black; strong composition. Do I have a clue about how any of the songs on the album sounded? Evidently not.
Warrior is a common name, though. An artist of whom I’m currently a fan also has a Warrior song. I’m fairly sure the soundtrack of this video is not a recording of Matisyahu.

all falling empires exhibit this kind of military arrogance. glorifying killing…singing to potential enemies that your blood will run under our feet is really a sign of weakness. no true great military power would ever the need to sing this type of thing. it’s evil too. i can say that as an american citizen. i’ve seen the military go from barely noticeable to a lot like nazis, japanese, russians during ww2 and during mao’s time. military arrogance will only stir the world to defeat america. it will make no friends. it will earn no respect. if you fight an opponent with lesser arms and so no mercy, they will fight to their last breath and fight much more brave and courageous ways. what is courageous about using super advanced weapons against those who barely have any? our elder fathers never spoke of their fighting against japan or germany. they came home and kept their mouths shut. they were not arrogant yet their fighting was just and valid. invading iraq is not just or valid. george bush is a war criminal and this song is part of the evil that has crept into our military mindset. and it is apparent that china is very jealous of this type of power and working hard to become the next evil military power. china likes to criticize america but the love to imitate the worst of america and never embrace the good parts of america.

    • Anon E Moose

As both you and I are American citizens, I will have to
respectfully disagree. The US is in what could be considered
      a ‘barbarian’ stage of development.

Instead of a falling empire it is instead in the process
of ascension. Think Ghenghis Khan or Timurleng
or any other empire-builders spilling out from Central Asia.

Imagine the songs of triumph they woulda sung while
hoisting up the heads of the defeated on poles.

“all falling empires exhibit this kind of military arrogance.
glorifying killing…singing to potential enemies that your
blood will run under our feet is really a sign of weakness.

That’s what, a 20 year time period ? Same time it took
from the Mongols. And their project extended over
2-3 generations and covered a vast majority of Eurasia.

military arrogance will only stir the world to defeat america”

America is in quite the position to dominate the World.
Russia is slated for extinction if only because of demographics (80 million by 2050), India a rising power is being co-opted by the US in the biggest “special relationship” the anglo-sphere has yet seen, China has its own structural flaws as well as almost the same demographic crisis Russia is gonna go thru, and Brazil will be too busy samba-ing, fornicating, and partying to give us any problems (BRIC).

Remember that the US still has a 3-1 lead in manufacturing over China; hell it’s bigger than Japan AND China combined.

Looks like the 21st Century will also be an American Century, just like the last one.

As for coalitions against us, those are really hard to keep together, as the US knows all too well.

If things get tuff, we will enter into our ‘Civilized’ state of foreign engagement. Think the Byzantine Empire holding off its barbarian invaders for a 1,000 years or the British Empire during the 18th & 19th century w/ all of it’s alliances on the continent.

Some people would say the end is near for America.

I sez things are jus’ beginnin’ !
