Two Chinese homosexuals profess their love on stage at the Beijing Chuan Zi Concert.

The above video received nearly 900k views in 2 days on popular Chinese video sharing website Youku. It features two young homosexual men professing their love for each other on stage in front of a noisy crowd at the Beijing Chuan Zi Concert at the Tango Starlight. Chuan Zi is the bearded musician in the red t-shirt (also pictured below), who became famous after appearing with his “singing” dog on last season’s China’s Got Talent.

          Just spotted the article on Pride Taiwan. Didn’t know there even was a Pride there until about two minutes ago. I’ve been showing my students pictues from San Francisco’s Pride this week. When I get to a shot of two guys with Freddy Mercury moustaches kissing, all the students make disapproving noises: tutting, gasping, grunting, moaning, sighing slowly. Then I ask them if they’d like a Pride in their city. Their answers range from ‘Disgusting -never!’ to ‘I’m sorry -I can’t accept it’. Anyway, I’m trying my best to subvert them. As for whether someone can not have a problem with someone’s sexuality and still make fun of it, why not? Hell of a lot of good faggot jokes out there -my friend Rupert tells me most of them, and he’s positively screaming.

            When I was in Taipei, the Taipei 101 was lit up in rainbow colors to support LGBT month. Taipei has a big gay pride parade, too.

            Yes, there’s a tonne of homophobia in Slavic countries. You need to have serious balls walking around Russia looking gay. Then again, Russian society is intensely racist as well. Is that OK? Immigrants shit themselves when they see the militia. Is that OK? Russia is an emormous country which has arguably produced some of the best writers, musicians and poets in the world. Surely not all of them can be as narrow-minded as you?
            I was in Moscow when some kind of pride parade took place. I don’t know much about it, apart from that the OMON let some right-wing idiots attact those celebrating it. I think the point I want to make is I’ve been to heaps of countries, and unfortunately there are a few pricks like you in all of them. It’s got nothing to do with tradition. It’s got to do with hate inside a person that’s just looking for an excuse to justify its existence.

            Mile, the reason you don’t see straight pride parades are because it’s perfectly socially acceptable to be straight. No matter where you are in the world, you’ll be fine. But if you’re gay, most societies will shame you and many will put you in jail.

            As I understand it, gay pride parades are a way of raising public awareness and letting people know that it’s alright to be gay.

            Your comparison about “straight pride” parades is like asking why white Americans didn’t have a civil rights movement in the 1960s – people who have all the power in a society don’t have to rally to try and change people’s views and gain acceptance.

        Ma Leshan seems to be making a career out of exhibitionism, I think anyone who is also revolted by Paris Hilton should be able to say whatever they like about him without any inferences made about their own views regarding homosexuality.

        Anyway, It obviously means a lot to those two guys onstage, but that doesn’t mean everyone else has to like it, as long as people are relatively civil about homophobia then you should be tolerant to them expressing their feelings.

        I read news about a touching question asked by USA politician not long ago, and it is a very very haunting question for me. Basically the question was something like this:”If sexuality is divine, then how many more gays does God have to make, until we start asking ourselves whether God actually wants them to exist in this world?” It makes me stopped. And re-evaluate my whole viewpoint in the whole gay-debate. Yes, we are thinking we know what God wants, but is this true? If sexual relationship is from God, then how come He created them that way? Maybe he keeps creating them, borned from heterosexual couples, because he wants their existence to deliver us some messages? I’m not God’s apostle so I may never know what he thinks, but surely it’s been long time since first gay and hetero couples co-existed in this world. All I can think today is just this: maybe this world, and our existence as human being, will be more bearable with more love in it. DOn’t you agree?

I’ve personally said such things somewhat approaching that level before, although falling short of describing an individual woman’s vagina, but it’s acceptability is dependent on context.     I miss the small venue rock concerts in Beijing! ALways relaxed and chill and you never know what kind of act or thing is going to happen next! Good times! All the audience would be dancing. I’ve never seen a guy and girl kiss on stage in Beijing. . so I can imagine two guys kissing would be extra shocking. Anyhow China needs lots of gays because otherwise it will have too many lonely and single men. + gays can’t procreate. . .so that is another bonus for CHina.
