From Xinhua & Mop:

Two days ago [2010 December 27], the Beijing Municipal Administration of Cultural Heritage held a conference meeting at the Capital Museum for the deployment of security measures for cultural relics. During the meeting that lasted multiple hours, many people were dozing off at the venue. Video of this was wildly spread after it was posted online. The Administration of Cultural Heritage has said that it will investigate what work units/organizations the people dozing during the meeting are from and will reprimand the, during the next conference meeting.

The meeting was about emphasizing prevention of fires.

Comments from Mop:

叫我无奈就好:

As long as it doesn’t hurt anyone, I’d rather they slept! emoticon

请叫我蜘蛛:

A conference meeting for the Heavenly Kingdom is a matter of great importance!!!

此女贼刁:

Haven’t heard that government officials all have to stay up late?

So exhausting at night, yet still having to attend meetings during the day,

how do you expect them to survive?

It isn’t as if there are any big problems happening right now,

and when something happens, they will think of an extremely good solution.

Lou zhu, don’t be worried for no reason.

啥是比丫:

If something happens, just arrest a few migrant workers [and blame them].

把青春献给你我的右手:

In the Heavenly Kingdom, if you take things seriously, you will lose…

rayzhao800:

The meeting is nonsense anyway. What is “must be placed upon prevention”? Without obligatory/enforced measures, what bullshit use is it to yell slogans every day?

小卷mao:

The Heavenly Kingdom will always have never-ending conference meetings…the leadership [officials] are all so numb to them that they go to sleep!

床上真男人:

Won’t explain.

Different countries' government officials during meetings.

mn45265:

Cliches, jokes, empty words, but no truths. For the big officials, going to work means reading the newspaper, so when the leader of the meeting reads from the newspaper, can they avoid falling asleep?

ylq6145:

To be honest, conference meetings in China is something where any leader [official] can drag out to be several hours, but the content is empty, all a bunch of cliches, nothing of practical use. I bet most officials could open their mouths and do the same, but what do you want them to do when they are on the listening end? It isn’t as if they are like us insignificant rabble who must wait for the right moment to applaud the leadership to give them encouragement, so all they can do is go to sleep.

kstg3319876:

It isn’t interesting when the discussion is not about money, so they can only go to sleep!

Talk about promotions, allocating funds, and raising salaries…

…and each and every one of them will be alert.

So sad~~~~

潮州老邢:

Holding a meeting is not the same as ML, where lasting a long time is good. Quality is the most important.

okseaok:

When obviously two sentences or a simple notice would’ve been enough, the leadership insists on spewing saliva for 2 hours on a platform, so can you really blame those in the audience?!!

Also not the same as ML. Personals @chinaSMACK.
