European-Chinese Couples: Chris and Fufu

Intercultural couple: Chinese Fufu and Danish Chris.

Chris and Fufu are a Danish-Chinese couple who met in Beijing. Fufu is in a band called the Hellcats and has an online second-hand clothing shop whereas Chris plays football and enjoys riding his bike around town. They talk about what it means to be a newly-wed intercultural couple today and what helps them manage to stay together.

Chris and Fufu are an example of how having a common belief keeps them together. The best part was shooting Chris on the bicycle at the intersection, it’s such a simple way to show the differences of culture.

Chris on a bicycle at a Beijing intersection.

They are now living in New York where Chris is continuing his studies.

Really? Still fixated on this topic? Nothing better to do? Is this really the most interesting news in China? Perhaps there is something more constructive for the European Union delegation to focus on, maybe a way to save bankrupt Greece….?

    • ken

I see nothing wrong with posting about this topic. I say, post all of the short documentaries as they become available.

      • Hoji

They are all available now on Youku

    • mr.wiener

At least they are less ridiculously photogenic than the last couple. I can relate to them more.

    • where is the news?

i agree like the followup of the kindergarden teacher she was set free by the way. as they said in chinese 无犯。 where is that news?

      • DavidisDawei

        Wow – I’m Shocked (Not)

    • LeilaM12

The EU delegation in China has no role on Greece. You just revealed your complete ignorance. The EU delegation does trade, projects in China (energy and environment projects e.g.) and public diplomacy. And this video is a great example of public diplomacy.

    • Naiwen

yeah, he can post wherever he likes eh?

  • James

    I really enjoyed it, thanks!

“This is part of a series of short documentary films about real-life European-Chinese couples conceived and produced for the Delegation of the European Union to China.”

Ah well. If they don’t know what to do with tax money, they create stuff like this. Seriously, what’s the intention? To show people that different cultures can come together or what?
If those stupid delegates would leave their offices/homes once in a while, they would see what’s really going on and realize that the common European citizen has seen multicultural couples already.

    • theway

I agree. What’s up with something like this when it’s not needed; what’s the point, and–more importantly–how much did it cost???!!! Aren’t there more important things to be spending money on, like oh…emasculating evil corporations???!!!

      • Billy

I rather my tax money went on this than stealth bombers and the Israeli war machine – that’s getting ones priorities right!

        • DavidisDawei

Keep the money in OUR pockets. Problem solved.

          • Billy

A very simple minded solution that doesn’t seem to work in modern societies – we don’t live on a Mennonite community in Paraguay – ‘we kint keep outta thit big ol’ pesky govirmint outta of oua lives’ whilst we carry on living from the land – it isn’t 1776. The government IS responsible for the welfare of the community including health, welfare, education etc..

          • DavidisDawei

I could not disagree with you more

          • Billy

Doesn’t matter if you do or you don’t my man. I live in a country where it doesn’t cost me a fortune in health insurance to get treated in a hospital and I ‘cannot afford to get sick’ and thank God for that!

          • Erdos

Billy: The problem is that liberals are completely incapable of managing anything effectively because their religious beliefs (egalitarianism) compel them to introduce religious-orientated policies like equal representation across all sectors of employment and academia. At least East Asians are capable of managing SOEs effectively, mostly because they actually run them like businesses.

Liberals in the US are right about CEOs being greedy, they just don’t realize Unions are just as greedy, but not as smart, so their greed is limited by their cognitive impairments. This sort of antagonism is not conducive towards a corporatist environment.

          • Charles

Billy – that is such an irrational comment… kinda sad.

        • The Israeli war machine, often cited, seldom elaborated beyond tinny epithets. While neither Israel nor the Palestinian territories should receive any aid from the US, you should also be keenly aware that to those of us who have lived and worked there, statements like these make you sound pretty ignorant.

          • Billy

Why does it Noah? that few billion donated to Israel would be better spent on Americans at home would it not?

          • As I said, the US should not be in the business of throwing money into the Middle East. It does make matters worse. The part of your comment that I was referring to is the part where you call Israel’s military a “war machine” — we all know what’s behind loaded terms like that, and unless you were born yesterday in a cave in a Tasmanian nature reserve, you should know as well.

          • Billy

It is a ‘war machine’ they have been trying to involve the Americans on an attack against Iran for the past 12 months, they have made no secret about it either. And what are they doing now? ‘War Machine’ is a very apt phrase.

          • Naiwen

I agree, but what does it have to with this Chinese-European couple topic?

      • How much did it cost? Let’s just assume it’s less than a million euro. If so, it’s totally insignificant when compared with entitlement spending and military budgets. Literally, a drop in the bucket. The problem though is this culture of fiscal irresponsibility.
By the way, corporations are neither evil nor good. It’s just a business model, like partnerships.

      • Jason Wong

The costs were very minimum. We are two independent filmmakers who made these documentary films with love. If you ever met somebody who made a documentary, you can ask them how much money they made. But you are correct, often it is sad to see where government spending goes. However I hope you can see that films like this that bring unknown cultures to a Chinese culture who has very little chance to see outside their own country are a positive way to spend government funds.

    • themig

I now realize chinasmack didnt post any chinese netizens comments because these 2 videos probably werent shown to Chinese citizens. the ultimate controversy in China would be Japanese race mixed with other Asians under a Japanese Trade Delegation. post that and you are guranteed 10,000,000 netizen comments

      • Naiwen

        or Korean with Japanese. I met some people who are half-Korean, half-Japanese; half-Chinese, half-Japanese or half-Chinese, half-Korean.

    • vanyuelding

oh or maybe the peoples who don’t see this type of couples and the way they live so often and the peoples who this is made for are in Asia specifically China and not in Europe

    • Jason Wong

The delegates at the EU actually took their EU film festival opening party budget and decided to make better use of it by creating videos that bring up the discussion of intercultural relations specifically between Europeans and China – because they are the EU in China. Europe is a place that values their culture highly and understands that they need to share their unique culture as soft diplomacy (http://dawn.com/2012/04/28/eu-china-in-soft-diplomacy/) “aimed at ensuring the EU-China conversation is about more than just trade, business and global politics.” – so it is a common trend for European nations to invest into art. The US Embassy, on the other hand, has no cultural department and currently has no desire to invest into any self produced video content in China.

      • Germandude

The link you posted does not work. “Page not found”. Surely, you have a source that you’d like to share with us, proving that the EU delegates are using money supposed to be invested into a EU film festival opening party to produce these videos. Do you not?

And Jason Wong, please don’t misunderstand. I am not against the movies per se, actually they are nice. However, I stay by what I said. The money could have been invested into sth more help- or meaningful. For the European side as for the Chinese side.

        • Kai

It’s the parentheses at the end of the URL. Just delete it and reload that URL, but I think I’ve fixed it for him.

In Jason’s defense, there are tons of things governments spend money on that any person could argue could’ve been used on something more helpful or meaningful because we have different values and priorities. Personally, I also totally believe governments often do things to justify, maintain, or expand their budgets (hence the general criticism of government inefficiency), but I don’t think producing these films seems so out of place for a government organization dedicated to EU-China ties.

Also, your initial comment suggests you were thinking of how Europeans would receive these films. But note that they have Chinese subtitles, are hosted on Youku, and promoted on the EU in China’s Sina Weibo account. The target audience is also Chinese people, whom I think many of us here would agree could use a lot more cross-cultural and international exposure. China is still a really homogenous society and interracial/intercultural couples are still relatively rare compared to many developed Western countries that have been historical destinations for immigration and thus have longer histories of more diverse multiculturalism.

Increased exposure to this kind of stuff will shape attitudes in China over time, just as they shaped attitudes in Western countries. Don’t you think so? Don’t you think that falls within the mission of the EU in China delegation?

          • MrT

its a ploy to dilate the gene pool, so Chinese people don’t take over the world!

            Look at Honk Kong now,

          • Germandude

“Also, your initial comment suggests you were thinking of how Europeans would receive these films. But note that they have Chinese subtitles…”

That is correct. My first comment was written prior to me watching the movie (as I can’t watch it in office). From the pictures, I didn’t know that it has Chinese subtitles.

The “article” here gives 0 further information on why it was done etc. So I assumed that the movie was done for European viewers. And in that case, it would have been wasted money in my eyes, because except a small portion of racists, Nazis or nationalists, European societies are used to see multicultural couples.

And I don’t know how familiar you are with Europe, but we are getting this whole “multicultural society is good, racism is bad” song blown into our faces 24/7 and it starts annoying even people like me, who are living in multicultural marriages. Combine that with governments (and the European Instituations in general) trying to restrict information on certain topics and you get people pissed off and suspicious with anything that comes out of those institutions.

Thanks for correcting the link by the way, was too blind to see the error in it.

          • Germandude

Oh and if I may add:
            From the link:
“Europeans are clearly impressed by China’s rise but opinion polls across Europe also show continuing public unease about the country’s political system, human rights, increased military spending and trade practices.”

Yes, Europeans dislike the Chinese governmental system and the lack of human rights in the country.

However, Chinese and Asians in general are the most welcome foreigners in Europe because unlike many people from other countries, the majority of Asian immigrants is not living on social welfare.

As a funny anecdote, during my studies in the Netherlands (I lived in GER that time and drove back and forth almost daily), my wife got offended by a Skinhead once (in GER), while we got offended by Moroccons and Turkish multiple times (in GER and NL).

          • zappa frank

hey dude, sorry but i cannot agree in saying chinese are the most welcomed immigrant in europe. this is a bit false except if you mean that most immigrants (expecially maroccons and easter europeans) are less welcome..but that doesn’t mean chinese are welcome. Let me explain, chinese in europe are better than most immigrants, is true, not violent, no disorder, no troubles… but still chinese are not exactly popular in europe.

          • MrT

wow, what happened there, i never posted that!

          • Germandude

I don’t know where you are from or which countries you mean. The impression I’ve got was that Asian immigrants were the most liked ones in GER, NL, AUT, BEL, FRA, DEN and UK. Not so much welcomed in POL, ESP, ITA and CZ.
I have the impression that in the eastern European countries, no foreigner is welcomed.
Don’t know about the nordic countries so much because unfortunately, I have never been there.

Could you please let me know which countries you had in mind? I find it funny actually that for many people Asian means Chinese. Best I’ve seen so far was sitting in a Japanese restaurant in Berlin and a German old man (like 70 years old) said to the waitress: “You Chinese really know how to cook”. LOL, luckily the waitress took it easy and said: “Thanks, but we are Japanese”….

          • Zappa Frank

i’m talking about italy, spain and france.. sincerelly except filipino there aren’t other asian immigrants than chinese here.. yes there are japs, but really really few.. and about retaurants, well i don’t know in germany, but most of japs restaurants in italy are with chinese and no japs at all.

          • Naiwen

            yep, 100 agreed.

          • Kai

My first comment was written prior to me watching the movie (as I can’t watch it in office). From the pictures, I didn’t know that it has Chinese subtitles.

Ah, that’s understandable, simple misunderstanding. I assumed you had already seen the video as well as the AJ and Natalie video from several days before.

We’re placing the emphasis on the subject-matter of the films themselves rather than “why” the EU in China delegation produced the films, but I think its close to what I said above, that the mission of the organization is focused on China-EU relations and ties.

I do think there’s a growing backlash against what people think is government-sponsored political correctness or the promotion of certain things as trying to force certain values they don’t subscribe to on them and those around them. I can understand that but I think its always going to face a problem of subjectivity (where different people think more or less is needed based on their own conception of reality). Shrug.

Anyway, my personal opinion is that I think this is good for Chinese audiences, and that this is being promoted by the EU in China delegation to Chinese audiences is an interesting thing about how the internet can be used to influence Chinese society as much as the Chinese internet reflects Chinese society. Cheers.

        • Germandude

Look at this guy’s eyes, nose and mouth. Change his hair color into black and photoshop a Chinese guy’s hairstyle on him. Then tell us “he looks like an asian guy made his hair blonded.” again.

“maybe he look like u.” I won’t upload a pic of myself here. Nice try. As a 4 year old, I looked pretty similar to the kid in my avatar’s pic however it’s not me.

          • linette lee

This blonde guy look something like this, except he is blonde, whiter skin, and taller nose….and much younger of course with more hair.

no matter ugly or pretty the white one is in a mixed couple, to have pretty kids, that white one just needs to have clear frame.

            fk with urself.

          • Super Bunny

i just say his face frame is not clear, not so much as pure white.

as my father, his face is narrow and long, sharp chin, high nose, long and narrow eyes.not so round and wide and messy as asian.

maybe that’s why i am always addctided to ethan hawke’s films. just to look at him.no matter how many times and what’s topic.

      • linette lee

I’m sorry, but he does look like a chinese guy with blonde hair. He has nicer nose and whiter skin of course and the chinese guy have more yellowish skin and nose not as tall.

That is just a bad photo of them. They look better in the video. He looks tall and slimmer in the video.

    • fabulous

  • Nilerafter24

Cute couple, but I’m just waiting for a real controversial interracial couple.
    Black/dark Indian girl- Chinese guy.

    • Billy

I am on a British university campus and I am seeing a fair few Arab/Indian/Pakistani men with Chinese girls, saw a black man and a beautiful Chinese girl the other night out as a couple, Chinese people thinking outside the box for once – love it and long may it continue.

      • Akhemu

in developed country its a little different they may not be so conservative but in developing country its a big deal because most of them are conservative. Conservative as in within their own race or if with outsider, only with someone of lighter skin (this is a dream of most asian family, so its not a big deal to see this chinese men/women with white women/men, even in developing countries) and they will work hard to make it work and the family will be resistence only a little bit. So there is hardship, but not so much.

As for controversial couple they are a few in my country as in dark men/women with light women/men (darker skin asian/arabic with chinese girl/guy couple or with really rare white skin individual) and it is out of love. The problem is usually given by a family of lighter skin, more resistance, more excuses given for it not to work. (no one wants an ugly children or grandchildren, too bad but thats how it is). Some of my friends, they are in this controversial relationship but they and their family genuinely love each other and no excuses whatsoever.

Most reasoning is the different culture and religion. This is not really true actually, its more of a preferences. The darker skin muslim will not be able to be with a christian light skin individual. One time an Iranian came to our uni, muslim, light skin and quite rich because he is a singer. There were queues of girls, no matter if they are christian or buddhist. End up with one chinese girl Catholic Christian. It wasnt controversial at all despite the religion difference, because he have all the quality that a lover supposed to have.

So really its just preferences of the family, the rest are just excuse so it wont be too painful for the rejection of the other party. The older generation are usually quite discriminative. Living in asian country where values are superficial, this kind of things bound to happen. In developed countries like US or UK when i visited it was normal to see interracial couple, isnt a big deal at all, to see dark and light joining ‘forces’ haha.

    • zappa frank

without any comment from chinese netizen there are no controversial couple. Those articles have no great meaning if we cannot see what chinese think about it. For westeners they are just a common interracial couple, except if you are from stormfront, there’s no way anyone could say anyting wrong about it. well maybe they are not so attractive.. only that we could say.

      • Jason Wong

Hello. If you are able to follow in Chinese and very keen on helping, our Chinese video comments are all on youku and weibo, just look up 中欧合璧, AJ and Natalie, or any of the other couple names to get a feel for what they say.

        http://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XNDcxMzQ1MDI4.html

Intercultural Relationships are not the same as interracial relationships, one is about differences of culture/country and one is the difference of skin color, and yes you are correct any video focusing on the later is a mundane concept. This is about culture differences and the stories of people living today in modern China. what we are focusing on are inspiring people who love each other across borders and share simple ways to find common ground which is just a small example of how we all can find in ourselves ways to understand each others differences.

Projects like this funded by the collective of the European Union is also a very soft way for many small countries, like Denmark, to have video content spread about their culture. Now, a few thousand Chinese people have seen a video about Denmark, which i think for most people, is a rare instance. This instance gives awareness to this country, and gives Chinese people options in life.

        • hess

what did they possibly learned about Denmark in this video? That they stop at red lights, thats it

          • Alain

They also did not show him drinking a carlsberg beer.

          • Lila

True! But it makes one want to know more about Denmark! And the scene was quite hilarious : All Chinese not caring and him staying like any good citizen should have (not that I would do the same as him).

        • SuperHappyCow

“Intercultural Relationships are not the same as interracial
relationships, one is about differences of culture/country and one is
          the difference of skin color,”

That’s funny. You’re funny. As if white people and asians are part of the same ethnic background. And I can’t bring myself to say “race” because it’s an invented fucking idea.

        • Lila

… You only show the good sides not the bad sides but showing the later would spoil the pretty picture I guess.
Still I really enjoyed watching those videos, good work! You would do well if you’re ever asked to do propaganda.

      • Naiwen

        except Chinese can’t marry Whites.

    • Derick

Not going to happen, hardly ever seen Indian girl going interracial way, Indian guys are all into Asian, White and Hispanics

    • lemerchant

you won’t ever see it. to liberals interracial only means black men – white women or white men – asian women.

for example in the UK, they only try to promote blacks as male leads in movies and dramas despite the fact that blacks as a percentage of population is far few than indians or other south asians.

another example is how freely liberals rip on asians while defending blacks and jews like their life was depended on – as many posters on this blog demonstrate.

      • Jahar

I’m a liberal and I don’t rip on asians. among my friends, ive only hear people rip on asians when living in that particular country. I don’t know where you are from, but in general, by definition, liberals are more accepting of change than the opposing group- conservatives…

        • Naiwen

But they are doing the exact opposite of “being more liberal than conservatives…” in society.

      • donscarletti

I know plenty of White girl Asian guy couples. Parents rarely get shitty about it because they don’t tend to be the KTV frequenting, chain smoking, erguotou guzzling, spitting indoors type of Asian male. They tend to be relatively classy, successful guys from Singapore or ABC. I also know a few white guy black girl couples, more than the inverse, mostly parents don’t have a huge problem with it either to my knowledge.

Liberals like those couples because they piss off parents and make certain males feel insecure. Certain combinations simply don’t upset enough people to sooth chardonay socialist’s sense of ennui.

        • Erdos

          I like you donscarletti.

Liberalism is a disease of the mind.

          • bert

Conservatism is reality while liberalism is pure fantasy. Liberals want the whole world to die off if need be, conservatives only want the other half to die off.

          • Erdos

Funny, so 99.99% of all your ancestors, and everyone else’s ancestors all over the globe all had a disease of the soul and the only spiritually and mentally healthy people were 1960s hippies? Get real.

        • Dude

What is the deal with spitting anywhere you are, and somehow its acceptable. I haven’t quite figured out if its just pure arrogance, or just absolute uncivilized animals. I see this happen more often from the wealthy people, I guess they figure some poor person will come right over and clean up their filth. It really bothers me. I like this part “KTV frequenting, chain smoking, erguotou guzzling, spitting indoors type of Asian male.” Classic.

          • mr.wiener

            Try “total indifference”.

      • Billy

Probably because blacks along with whites date interacially more than any other ethnic group whereas ‘South Asians’ are the group least likely to date interracially.

    • patko

I live in an incredibly multy cultural country and an Indian girl with a white boy is something I have never seen.

      • Kai

        America is working on it…

    • haha was it you who posted that similar comment about the previous video ? :p

  • Grumpy

Could either the EU or ChinaSmack not have had the good sense to put this on youku or some other platform where one would actually be able to watch it in China without having to wait 20 minutes for it to load over a VPN?

    • Anonymous

Well, if you had looked on Youku, it has actually been online for a while….

      • MrT

Youku is one of the few sites that are loading the past few weeks.
        Google gone to sht.

    • Kai

If you’re visiting this website from within China, the video embed is from Youku. If you’re using a VPN, that means you’re appearing from outside of China, which means you get Vimeo. Vimeo will stream to wherever your remote VPN connection is but that data still has to stream over to you in China and that’s the part, especially when crossing the GFW, that takes a long time. We’ve been optimizing this site for China visitors for a long time and part of that is to offer a Youku video for visitors from China. Turn off your VPN and reload the page. If you still don’t see a Youku video, let us know. It works for us.

  • linette lee

    hhahhahahhaha……..lol…………….XD

next article will be married couples white woman and a chinese woman. And then the next one will be married couples white man with a chinese man. xD

      • Super Bunny

they should shoot Dashan and her chinese wife. hahahaha!
        that’s funny!

        • linette lee

          who is dashan?

          • MrT

handsome Canadian dude, but you wouldn’t know that being on a closet island

  • Akhemu

i think the documentary director are just doing research to see everyone’s reaction to this, finding out that its nothing new, perhaps he will focus on a more controversial matter? his video making is excellent, i wonder, if he were to cover an issue with alot of drama involve, how it will look like? perhaps some symbolism for argument such as breaking a tea cup and slow motion of water spilling out… I look forward for more.

  • Cynic

I love how it’s written. ‘They talk about what it means to be a newly wedintercultural couple today and what helps them manage to stay together.’

Like all inter cultural marriages are wrought for distaster at inception just due to their unnatural nature and u need tricks to manage the marriage so you stay together in it.

Maybe it’s just me but I read it that way.

    • Jahar

Cynic is a good choice of names, haha. More seriously though, inter-racial/cultural couples tend to have more difficulties to overcome than non-whatever couples. I think cultural hurdles are tougher than racial matters though. an ABC with ABC parents is much easier to handle(for a Canadian) than a mainlander with mainlander parents. I Don’t know how anyone can handle mainlander in-laws.

      • Kai

It’s not that hard. You just need to understand and make your peace with the fact that they come from a different socioeconomic background and their values and sense of priorities will be different from the average ABC. Their values are likely to be closer to the ABC’s immigrant parents than the ABC person in fact. In other aspects of culture, an ABC usually at least has some shared culture with the mainlander, compared to say someone whose family history has no Chinese or Asian background at all.

Of course, there are always crazy in-laws, but I don’t really think mainlanders are unique in that regard. The key friction in most of these relationships is major differences in values.

        • Jahar

I’m not saying it’s hard or not, I’m just saying there are generally more issues to deal with. If you can or can’t, that depends on you, i guess.

It’s not the craziness that is hard to deal with, it’s the no boundaries. The parent-child relationship among adults can be tough to deal with for some of us.

          • DavidisDawei

People have given me the following warning – Would you say the following statement is usually true?

“When you marry a Chinese girl, you marry her entire family?”

One friend told me his biggest arguments with his Chinese wife is when she wants to send her family money and he refuses.

          • gumiho

Most definitely true-and pretty much true of any other woman you might marry, too. Do you expect a girl to give up her family when she marries you? I’ve been married to an Asian woman for a very long time, and just about every other couple we know has sponsored some or all of her family to come here to the US. My wife’s mother has lived with us for 30 years now-she has no one else to care for her, so what are we to do?

          • DavidisDawei

            Thanks Gumiho
I agree it would be impossible to turn your wife’s Mother away if you want a happy life together.
But I understand my buddy’s Point of View – it would make me a little uncomfortable if I was being viewed as as a bank that hands out free money – for example, being asked (sorry, I meat to say EXPECTED) to pay for her nephew’s college or other family expenses back in China. I agree with him that You need to draw a line somewhere.

          • Naiwen

Oh yes, Chinese wives/husbands do that a lot to the White husbands/wives (from a Chinese’s PoV), thinking they must be ultra-rich people.

          • Jahar

I wasn’t referring to finances, I mostly refer to the fact that they become very involved in your life. I’ve heard so many stories about in-laws invading peoples lives. And your wife will never say a word to them about it. She will (almost) always defer to them, unquestioningly.

But taking care of an elderly parent is quite a bit different than taking care of her whole family. Where I’m from no one takes care of their parents until they are too old to do it themselves.

      • Mean Hag

Good point. I’d say it’s not too difficult, but the experience is bitter that nobody will understand them. It takes more efforts and determination to tell most mainlander parents how much they’d want to be with the guy/girl, and nothing their parents do will change your mind, But the thing is you don’t even know that the person you are currently with deserves all that you’ve done. I can’t even promise that I will never fall for someone else. I’ve seen a lot of couples seem like happily married. Most guys get stuck in China, with having a shitty job as English teachers (if you do think this is a career), bc their wives can’t find a job anywhere else other than China. Or, they’d drag the lady to the country where they are from or they’d want to live, and their wives won’t have a good job at all. Only fewer couples will reach an in-between plan and live a better quality life. Supposedly, being realistic hurts, but isn’t it what we call life?

      • linette lee

I will say religion is the hardest to overcome between married couples. One may have to be converted. Religion shapes life, beliefs, society, and even a country. If a person is very religious it’s hard to convert.

        • Jahar

Haha might as well tack politics on there as well.

        • MrT

Not in Honk Kong so many religions there now!
One big cauldron of Interbreeds, positively a freak show!

          • linette lee

            …….One big cauldron of Interbreeds,positively a freak show!…….

a freak show…..then you should move to hk, you will fit right in.

          • linette lee

          • MrT

That is me, I is a pirate!

  • Mean Hag

Since when ChinaSMACK has run outta story, and thus decided to post a barrage of such threads? What’s the point in making a big deal outta it? People sure fall in love outta mutual interests and by nature, that says, it has nothing to do with nationality, age, or different culture background. The principle is simple bc you want the relationships to work out. Isn’t it the reason ppl say that love actually is all around? However not all love stories end up as we expected, sometimes they end up badly and sadly, or rather ugly. The point is reality matters. Good to see there are ppl who still believes in love. Cheers! I sure enjoy being cynical.

    • where is the news?

there are TONES of stories chinasmack has been missing. I just read one about the four boys in china age 9 to 13 who died of cold because they took shelter in a dumpster.

      • Kai

Peter did that over the weekend. It just hasn’t been reviewed and edited. His title says 5 homeless boys. It’ll be out sometime the next few days.

      • vincent

Yeah I saw the story on ministryoftofu they got the story up yesterday.

      • SuperHappyCow

        Fuck. That fucking sucks. Damn.

  • As a person of color, I am VERY jaded by Asian-White stories and topics.. Okay there is a consensus about this! Asian and white people are insanely in love together! “they are the ultimate combination of the ideal race” “perfection” “harmonious!” ect. ect. CONGRATULATIONS..

    • Akhemu

I prefer your “whoopdy fucking doo” at the end of your sentence rather than” etc etc congratulation”. the R rated version comment of yours, its funny.

    • cc

      As a person of color!!
What colour are you then? Pink, brown, black, yellow? Were all person’s of colour.

      • I much as I appreciate how color blind you are some people still have 20 20 vision.. catch my drift ? lol

    • fabulous

As someone named fabulous, I am very (and I mean VERY) jaded by stories and topics that aren’t me. People are insanely in love together! CONGRATULATIONS..

I’m finding it very hard to advertise my own identity if all I get to hear about is other people.

    • Erdos

      lol, such obvious sour grapes.

    • 3ayo

No, you’re just insecure, and that’s coming from another POC.

      • live in denial all you want my brother

        • 3ayo

Living in denial? How? I’m not the one here making assumptions about a creation of a ‘supreme, perfect race.’ I don’t understand how this affects you, me or any other POC. If anything be glad its not us doing this mixing (even though majority of the time the children come out looking black anyways).

          • if you haven’t realized this but those are not my remarks but remarks made my Chinese netizens

          • 3ayo

Then why did you feel the need to post it? O_o

          • zappa frank

so we should deduce that you’re a simply a guy who want some chinese girls but somehow you feel hurted because instead of fall at your feet for your charme they rather prefer white guys… is this the issue?

          • Akhemu

I agree most of the children do come out looking black. Its like…. coffee.

            imagine
one black individual as a tablespoon of coffee married to a white
individual as a tablespoon of milk. The total volume represent an
offspring produced by this marriage. The offspring produced by this
marriage when stir turns out black rather than patchy if left unstirred.
Add another tablespoon of milk because this offspring fell in love and
decided to marry a white. Mix and stir them to produce a new offspring.
Still black. Now lets fasten the process and add a whole jar of milk and
stir. The offspring will now be the colour of chocolate after marrying
            countless of white.

Ah a sudden enlightenment, now i know the meaning of the saying “once you go black you dont go back”

Well… people do get addicted to coffee.

            a cup?

          • Nilerafter24

            hahaha :D

          • 3ayo

Lol. Well at least white/black children look black (though I have seen first hand those with white fathers/black mothers show more of their white side). With blasian children, they seem to slightly favor their black side besides the almond eyes and hair texture, or genes are co-dominant.

          • SuperHappyCow

I feel like you fucking made that up.

            Probably because you definitely did.

    • LeilaM12

That is not the case in China… Trust me, there are still a lot of people very much against this. You look at it from the wrong perspective. BTW: Asians are people of color too.

  • Fufu has her life together, Chris is a loser. Fufu gives up her livlihood and band so Chis can go get into lots of debt and still be a loser. Fufu’s pretty dumb.

    • Fernando

Your jealousy speaking? huh? haha…poor idiot, jumping into conclusions without knowing the whole story behind them.

  • Dr. Barefoot

    weak

  • I want to pose a serious question to white people, and asian people that are attracted to white people: the Chinese make up 20% of the world population (that is China, while there is still the populations of the Koreas, and Japan to factor in for total Asian pop). 1 out of 5 people in the world is Chinese, while India is close at 17% of the world population. Whites/Europeans alone make up about 9% of the world population. So, if every European were to reproduce and marry with an Asian, there would be no more whites left in a generation, yet there would still be many Asians left. Don’t you think Europeans should do more to preserve their own culture; and, in light of these facts can’t one go as far as to say that videos like these are provocative and maybe even unethical in some sense? Remember, the U.N. definition of genocide is “any situation socially, physically or mentally interruptive to the continuation of a race, group, or people.”

    • mr.wiener

The way the world is going is probably beige.
We started out as one genus, we split , isolated, migrated, reformed ,added to conquered, split again etc, etc. There is not much new in what we are doing here sport ,”The end of white people” ? so what , they’ll just happen again.
I’m suspecting that you’re the kinda fella who might loose sleep over this, so I’ll be nice. The genes we pass on will outlive us by many millions of generations, and we are the product of genetic inheritence from millions of generations past. If a few cells on skin pigmentation get reshuffled along the way [and they already have, many times] it is of very little import. You might as well try to hold back the tide, and to what end?
To present ourselves [whites] as the victims of “genocide” is utter rot. On a par with Pat Robinson claiming Christians are an oppressed minority

      • Gay Azn Boi

In the words of Russell Peters, in a few generations from now, we’re all gonna be beige. So if we’re all gonna mix anyways, let’s start mixing now!

      • 3ayo

“The way the world is going is probably beige. ”

Not necessarily. Perhaps the Americas, but that’s it at most. Most people still mix with others of similar ethnic and/or racial background. Africa and South Asia are currently the fastest growing and youngest regions on the planet. So by mid-century around 1/4 of us will be black (up from 15% today), 1/2 Asian with another 1/4 alone being South Asian (unchanged from today pretty much) and the rest being multiracial (increase) and white (decline, though this is attributed more to Europeans and white Americans having lower fertility rates/aging).

So I’d say we’re approaching a mocha color with more South Asians, blacks and multiracial people (Americas). ^_^

        • linette lee

I agreed with so many multiracial here in America. Everybody have some kind of mixture trace all the way back from their great great parents . Like some have native indian blood, or latin blood, or mexican blood, or chinese blood…etc. Americans so many are really just mixed people.

          • SuperHappyCow

            or…African

    • Appalled@everything

You have nothing to fear. Every European is not going to marry and produce offspring with a Chinese. Chances are nil of that happening.

    • linette lee

……………..if every European were to reproduce and marry with an Asian, there would be no more whites left in a generation……………

Or you can say there will 50% less Asians and more white. I am chinese and if you and I get married, our kids are eurasians….which later on go off and marry other white people(that’s usually the case here in USA), then no more chinese offsprings.

I think the hk gov’t needs to make it illegal for hk chinese women from marrying non hk chinese men. They are losing their hk 7 millions population fast.

      • hess

“I think the hk gov’t needs to make it illegal for hk chinese women from marrying non hk chinese men. They are losing their hk 7 millions population fast.”
        That’s not racist at all

        • Germandude

LOL, even better: The thought of having a government tell you “who to love” is just hilarious.

German girl loves Italian dude, GER government stepping in: “Sorry Bettina, but you cannot love and marry Luigie…” Lmao… if she posted it as a joke, it would be great. Assuming that she meant it for real actually saddens me on the 2nd thought….

          • linette lee

            hhahah…luigi….or ricky or giovanni….so italino…

And all the greek men are named after george. The grandpa is george, the dad is george, and son is also george.

What is the most common male name in german or sweden?

          • Germandude
        • linette lee

why racist. I was just replying to Chris Granzow XI about preserving the population, so why not just have the gov’t make it illegal then.

      • zappa frank

if all europeans marry asians how can their sons-daughters marry other white europeans? there are no more left.. Besides for people like Chirs probably a 1/4 asian and 3/4 white is not white race.

    • maja

just to put it simply: no, I don’t care. I actually am the last male of my family to carry on the surname, I don’t really care about passing it down, neither do my family. assuming you talk about culture and not about skin colour, which culture should be “preserved”? today’s? my grand parent’s? the “culture of my country”, which part of it? and which specific parts of it should be preserved? which one’s discarded? well… I could go on but in the end the answer is: I’m not interested in the slightest in tribal preservation.

      • DavidisDawei

Maja – You raise very good questions – it is a different world today – better or not can be debated

How many of us met our great grand parents or know anything about them? It is amazing how quickly individuals are forgotten.

However, their decisions & actions have impacted many lives – most importantly, they are are responsible for us being born. Pebble in a pond analogy.

Things have changed a lot in the USA in the last 50 years. My Grandmother emigrated from Ireland to Boston when she was a teenager – Irish Brogue and all. My Mother wanted to go on a date with an Italian and Grandma blew a gasket when she found out. That relationship ended before it began.

If a Chinese (or Italian) girl won’t date me because her family objects to someone of a different race, It is OK with me if they make that choice. It is their life to live.

    • zappa frank

cultures change and cultures die…races use to mix at any chance they have, simply now we have more chance than before…besides
what is the european culture you’re talking about? we have many
different cultures, we share a lot is true, but we’re not the same
culture, like we can see expecially now. If we suppose that every marriage is for love, who is the one who has the right to stop it in order to save a “race”? moreover, i think that in the decline of the white race
mixed union are almost irrelevant, what is really relevant are economic
and social aspects, as we can see a decline of birth rate aslo in
non-europeans countries like Korea and Japan.

    • mr.wiener

Bummer mate, someone didn’t like your question. Wasn’t me I swear. True dinks. I might disagree with you but I’m not for censor you.

  • where is the news?

just read this chinese article (written by a chinese journalist) on fake marriages. the article claims chinese women pay money to waiguo men to get married and move to places like america then divorce after two years. maybe to add that story to chinasmack. after all these glowing chinese couple articles?

    • MrT

      is the normal.yup.

  • where is the news?

been following the article on webo for the last two weeks. the one with the crying white guy photo it’s call “含泪诉说老外取中国太太下场“ had TONES of comments thought chinasmack would have reported it by now

  • Appalled@everything

    Her name is Fufu? Seriously?

Like when i’m asking Chris to introduce her to me I would say: “show us your Fufu”
or when she is expecting her first child I would say: “I think your Fufu is showing”
or when I am trying to get better acquainted with her I would say: “I want to get inside your Fufu”
or when I have no luck borrowing money from her I would say: “That’s a tight Fufu!”

oh man I could do this all day

    • Kukuku

I like you. You can touch my fufu all night long.

  • jlion1786

How is this interesting news……….really really slow week for chinasmack…

    • Kukuku

An article on how internet has been slowed down to a crawl would have been interesting. Anyone can rationalize how the party thinks slowing down the internet will somehow stop news from coming in/out? Short of an absolute physical cut of the lines, you only increase frustration and lose face.

  • bluesummers

I’m not against interracial couples, I mean, I’m for it because if you limit yourself to one race you’re just wasting so many people, right?

But I’m not OK with making it a novelty by pushing it down our faces like this. They’re trying to make it something super-special, making it something that it’s not. Love is love, it doesn’t suddenly become 10x better or extraordinary if your partner’s not of the same race.

  • Simon

I do like these videos, but was hoping we would see some reactions from Chinese netizens. Judging from peope’s comments others had the same thoughts.

  • Slob

    Boring.

Who cares about this, honestly? For a website that’s aimed at bringing Chinese news to foreigners (or for a way to see how foreigners react to Chinese news), this is a pretty pointless article. I’m only here to see the juicy stuff, not this crap. If you want to show about interracial couples, post more about students coming here to study and how they treat the Chinese girls. That should cause some nice controversy.

  • 5000 years of history …

    • Gay Azn Boi

      Me too!

simplest way outta the country. Chinese pragmatic efficiency at it’s finest.

  • Gay Azn Boi

Although I already have a bf, I would totally bend over for Chris. I just think he’s so handsome :p

While I’m on that topic, I just think White guys from the Scandinavian countries (e.g. Denmark, Sweden, Norway, etc) are very handsome. There’s just something about them that’s so charming. I can’t describe it. But I guess the fact that most of them have soft fluffy blonde hair is one of the reasons. That totally turns me on.

    Anyone else think so?

    • vanyuelding

how about his wife feelings ? you selfish pervert! why gay peoples tend to always be so outrageous and sexually extrovert ! Ok we get and accept it you are gay dont need to flash your dick arround . tolerance in a society has limit: your liberty end where someone else’s start respect it

      • Gay Azn Boi

His wife’s feelings? I didn’t mention anything about his wife, so why are you bringing her up?

You find my comment to be outrageous and sexually extroverted? What era do you live in? May I remind you, this isn’t the 1950’s anymore. I don’t know where you live, but here in Canada we’re very tolerant of people of all sexual orientations. And by the way, I was simply making an observation (that I find White Scandinavian guys very handsome). What was so controversial about it?

And please, if you’re going to insult me (which you fail miserably), at least use proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

        • vanyuelding

oh yah you were just projeting to bend your ass over him a married man… NORMAL

          • Gay Azn Boi

Ok, are you just trying to be a troll, or are you actually homophobic? Because if you’re the latter, then I truly feel sorry for you. This is 2012. You need to get on with the times.

If you didn’t like my comment, then read other comments. There are enough other comments on here for you to read.

            And what is “projeting”?

    • MrT

yea Vikings were handsome chaps indeed, just before they cave your head in.

  • gumiho

That guy reminds me of me,almost 40 years ago. I was a dorky looking white guy, who managed to somehow win the heart of an Asian girl, and to this day, I still wonder how I got so lucky. We made a son who turned out better-looking than either of us,too.
Maybe it sounds strange, but I have never thought of us as an interracial couple-I really only think of her as being from another country.

    • SuperHappyCow

      Rofl. How fucking silly.

      • Naiwen

yeah eh? XDD White guys have low self-esteem sometimes.

        • mr.wiener

          And Asian women don’t !?!!

          • Naiwen

sure they do… but I don’t get why White guys think Asian women are prettier than White females, though.

          • mr.wiener

I like women from every race, but I s’pose you could say I have “Yellow fever” as I married a Taiwanese lady. There is a germ of truth in the oft repeated story that “White losers come to Asia to get women”, but I think this is mainly a comfort story put about by some disgruntled Asian guys.[ [What I can’t figure is the logical extension of that argument is Why did they pick a white loser over you ?]

          • Naiwen

yeah exactly. In my view only… the White is much hotter
than this Chinese wife, no offence to the Chinese lady. & My argument is: somehow the White guy always ends up with a very uggly Chinese girl by “Asian standards of beauty.”

          • mr.wiener

Having not been brought up in the culture western guys are unaware that small eyes and high cheekbones are not considered attractive, all they can see is the alien and the exotic. Once initial attraction has been made and they fall in love with the person not the race they will be telling themselves for the rest of their lives how fortunate they are to have met such a wonderful person, and never thinking “if only her eyes were bigger”. She will also consider herself lucky, so they are doubly blessed.

          • Naiwen

yep… “beauty is in the eye of the beholder” yes? But what I’m saying is that: no Chinese man would look at her (in terms of looks) & White males are attracted to her type of Chinese girls.

          • mr.wiener

I see what you are saying, but I think it works out as a win-win situation.

          • Naiwen

Generally speaking, I’m against this kind of marriages & life. I will marry one myself.

          • mr.wiener

I think you mean “marry one like myself” right? If that is the case I hope you find the right one for you, just try not to judge others who are mixed married.

          • Naiwen

yeah. & I meant to say: I will not have a White husband myself. No offence, personal choice cause I don’t want my life to get complicated as I think it must be for you to be married to someone outside your own race.

  • I wonder if she is considered to be pretty by Chinese standards.

    • no

      no.

      • YourSupremeCommander

Neither is the white boy, probably a reject from the west.

        • MrT

I concur.but i still think their all actors

      • Kai

I dunno about that. Beauty is subjective. She looks alright to me. Not hot, not ugly, could probably be considered cute. She’s not Sister Feng for sure.

        • Zappa Frank

          sexy sister feng…

      • vincent

Hey if they’re happy together then who are we to judge based on appearances alone?

    • Super Bunny

she looks much older than this boy, but this boy also a bit bellow average too.
her skin looks like little granny.

      • linette lee

But white and black men like that kind of look no? They find her attractive and pretty. That’s their definition of pretty when it comes to chinese girls.

        • 3ayo

I’m confused about the look you’re talking about. (?-?) I can’t speak for white men, but I’m sure she isn’t a looker to nearly all black men.

          • linette lee

I am saying the black and white people that don’t like their own race but go for east asians usually go for this type of look. At least that is what i see. They like thin slanted eyes and wide face. They like that mongoloid face.(not that I am saying it’s bad, many of them are pretty) But this is what I see.

            http://media-cache0.pinterest.com/upload/19351473369338022_BmEVmMr9_b.jpg

Black people dating their own kind prefer beyonce looking girls.

          • 3ayo

Hmm, interesting. I’ve only seen a handful of black men with Asian women, though WMAW are everywhere, still I never really paid attention to the type of woman they (white or black guys) were with.

And I wouldn’t say we prefer black girls that resemble beyonce. Yes a nice butt and flat stomach will get the attention of 95% of the black male population, but black women come in all shapes and sizes from petite to thick, and with that black men who like them. ^_^

          • Nilerafter24

I’m black but I don’t like beyonce looking girls. I like girls with proportionality (small or big,but proportional. Though I hate stick-thin bodies) but even more so, a good personality.
You can have good sex with a fine face and body, but a solid relationship stands on character.
But hey, each to his own.
Someone like me, I’d date that Chinese girl, Fufu. She’s pretty.

          • MrT

I seen a lot of piggy eyed women in HK.
            is result of interbreeding?

          • zappa frank

i don’t understand…so a white or a black man date a chinese girl just because doesn’t like his own race’s girls? So to date a girl of another race cannot be a normal thing? does it need that weird reason?cannot simply be that he found a better chance with that one or that the level of other white/black girls around was poor in that moment, and so on? By what you said seems that a man who date an asian girl just like asians girls

          • 3ayo

“cannot simply be that he found a better chance with that one or that the level of other white/black girls around was poor in that moment,”
It doesn’t even have to be that. Just they met a girl who happened to be Asian and dated her. There doesn’t have to anything wrong with the local white or black girls.

          • SuperHappyCow

Glad there’s a Chinese girl here to speak for black people, and tell me what I like, but hey, it’s not like I like girls that are a bit heavier, with skin as black as it could get.

            Thanks random Chinese girl.

          • MrT

            How do you know?

          • 3ayo

I’m black. That’s how. If you are and are attracted to women Linette Lee described then alright. You’re in the minority.

        • MrT

Talking of pretty, why do HK girls put their make up on so they look like Morticia Addams. I have a theory…

  • Kim

China girl loves the Danish man’s passport lol

    • Super Bunny

Since you have previously stated you are not white and your photo appears to be a mug shot you are quite obviously trolling.

          • vincent

Detective Wiener now all you need is a sidekick called Doctor Sausage.

          • mr.wiener

My sidekick is Bratwust Boy. Our crime scene investigation and and gadgets are handled by Dr. Frankfurter.

          • vincent

hahaha thanks for the laugh man :D

          • Kim

      • vincent

You think he’s wrong? It does happen you know. Instead of cursing which you’re apparently not good at, why don’t you argue your case instead of spouting garbage.

    • zappa frank

maybe alsoi for the big cock, who knows..invidious eh…

      • MrT

they don’t like it up em you know!

  • Chinawhack

Seems Chinasmack has become Chinawhack of late, focused more on stories about crappy pop music lyrics and self promotion articles like this documentary series that is posted by the director himself. Is Fauna even around anymore? Perhaps to busy in Russia and Korea these days.

  • BAHBAHSHEEP

Thank god the white man took her shes is fulgy

  • At least they are fitting. Average at best.

  • 3ayo

They look like a happy couple. To those critiquing their looks, they look like average people just like the rest of us. Unless you’re a Jake Gyllenhaal (ok first white guy to pop into my head), Zhang Ziyi, Oluchi Onweagba, etc then I wouldn’t be calling anyone else ugly. :p

  • Daniel Tynan

It’s weird to see a Chinese band and person that is totally copying 1950’s Americana music and style of dress. But I saw lot’s of random stuff like that in Beijing. .usually in one concert you will see Chinese death metal act followed by chinese hiphop or punk rockers.

    • MrT

should see HK full of 80s throw backs, just woke up.

Hey moderator… my wife is watching a video on WeiBo of some Canadian guy going batshit crazy on the subway. I think it’s a great pic for the site, hope you can find it. He’s going off about how Chinese people are so rude, and someone tells him to leave China and he yells “No, you leave, and I mean die!” It’s a great conversation piece.

    • MrT

give us the link, I like to see laowai having bad china day.

If everyone mixed then most people will become a grey-ish color with a Caucasian appearance and a few Asian characteristics. The blacks would be gone.

How can a student (who from reading does not seem to work!) afford a chinese wife, and to provide her with digital slr, macbook pro, and all her other worldly wants. Is he independently wealthy?

I await RIC to say that all foreign students are wealthier than foreign teachers in China and have more in the bank than FT’s but as I’m working in the sunny gulf at the moment, I’m more flush than ANY foreign student in China, so I don’t mind his reply, I know he is not a bad bloke, if a bit republican/tory leaning.

  • Intercultural couple show that living together in peace and love is amazing thing that we can share for this world. Differences just make this life more colourful :)
