European-Chinese Couples: Harrison and Jehanne

Intercultural couple: Harrison from Northeast China and Jehanne from Belgium, in Beijing.

Harrison is from the North East China while Jehanne is from Belgium. Both are pillars in the Beijing design community. Harrison grew up during the Cultural Revolution where his larger than life personality was picked to perform acting and opera in the army. Jehanne chose 15 years ago to devote her life to oriental art, and left her privileged upbringing to move to China. They live in an ancient Ming dynasty temple where they transmit their unique philosophy to their children Genghis and Nour. Besides their regular crafts in filmmaking, furniture design, and jewelry design, they work together as a living bicultural bridge in their interior design studio where they create lifestyles for people to enjoy.

These two are great examples of how, when you follow your dreams, you will find happiness. They also share their values of raising their children, which is another more complicated element in an intercultural relationship.

Probably the most interesting moment was when we met them for the first time in their house. I was standing in their beautiful

courtyard talking to their maid in Chinese with their daughter, Nour, off to the side. She heard me speak two sentences, then said, “American” in French (she speaks French with her mother). I looked at her, and asked how did she know, and she said in her fluent Chinese, “there is a boy in my school who is also American, and you sound just like him.” In my four years, nobody from China has ever picked me out that quickly, and she’s only 7 years old!

the Khans were the 3rd people in history to sack Jeruselaum in 1230 AD

  • I enjoy these videos. If you do not, it is quite simple: ignore them and refrain from commenting. Does the mere fact that they are posted here offend you? You have the choice to watch them or not. Exercise this right and let others do the same.

    • Slob

They’re boring, stupid, pointless, garbage. This crap can be found anywhere on the internet. Why would I bother coming to a website that has awesome articles from China translated into English with both Chinese and foreigners commenting to see how both react, just to see some crap love affair between two people? They’re not famous, they’re nobodies, how do these articles fit in with the rest of this website? They don’t. They’re meaningless crap that you might see on Fakebook or as previews for the next Twilight film.

      • ChairMao

exactly! couldn’t have put it better myself!

      • I wouldn’t say they are boring, stupid, pointless or garbage. I don’t mind watching them or them being on here.

I do feel they deviate from their goal listed on the about page which reads, “chinaSMACK is a daily-updated collection of news and content from the Chinese-language internet.” They are neither news nor content from the Chinese net.

If I recall correctly there are past posts and comments where chinaSMACK has defended the type of content they post saying it doesn’t follow along with about page goals. That’s why this give me the feeling of a slight contradiction.

      • gumiho

So bitter and angry! have you ever been in love with someone else in your life? or are you just jealous of those who have found someone special? The dynamics of an intercultural relationship are always interesting to others in the same situation.

“In my four years, nobody from China has ever picked me out that quickly, and she’s only 7 years old!”

That’s the first thing foreigners get asked – Are you American? What a dildo.

    • Zappa Frank

yeah, it was obviously a lie… chinese think by default that all foreigners are americans and have americans custom
i remember how suprised they were when we told them we don’t use to celebrate the thanksgiving day…than they said, doesn’t matter, you’re white, come to the tanksgivingday party..

      • Erdos

        >chinese think by default that all foreigners are americans and have americans custom

What I don’t understand is why Asian-Americans have drummed up the issue of Westerners confusing them for Chinese/Korean/Japanese into howling claims of “RACISM!” yet we’re fairly chilled and don’t go batshit over the fact they think we’re all American.

I’m really starting to dislike the fact non-whites hold whites to standards they never hold their own people to.

        • amelt

Dude chill out. I am a Dutch born ethnic chinese and I find it pretty effing irritating when people in Asia pigeonhole or assume things about white, blacks or whatever. So don’t just lump all non-whites in one big giant ignoramus category.

        • the ace of books

Yo, Erdos – is your name a reference to the mathematician? Or are you Hungarian?

        • Korq

Why don’t you define what you mean by “their own people”? You seem to be lumping Asian-Americans with foreign Asians or at least assuming that racial solidarity trumps national/ethnic solidarity.

Asian-Americans are quick to cry racism when whites confuse them for being “all the same”/”foreign Chinese” because historically, this has led to some blatantly discriminatory/racist laws and policies preventing them from integrating into society. Asian-Americans are interested in being recognized as full-fledged, loyal US citizens, especially 3rd or 4th generation Asian-Americans.

Foreign Asians in Asia, however, do not share those interests because most of them are already the majority ethnic groups in their home countries. Instead of fighting against racism, they have the so-called “privilege” of unwittingly being racist against others due to ignorance–including thinking all whites look the same, are foreign and are Americans. (In contrast, an Asian-American would not make the mistake that all whites are Americans. The Asian-American community holds itself to the same PC standards as Americans of other races.) Not enough whites are living in Asia long-term enough to be invested in raising awareness among the local populations.

        • I dunno. When I lived in Sweden and Brazil people usually had me pegged as American before I even opened my mouth. Must have been my swag.

        • Captian obvious

^This^ He’s right.. Dont start bitching and pointing fingers about something, unless your own country is above it. I experienced a lot of racist assumptions, and double standards in China, that Chinese wouldn’t be exposed to in America. Focus on fixing these problems in your own country. in America, we arent perfect, but we certainly have been more focused on fixing ourselves, than bitching about how we are treated abroad. I have also noticed people in China who have never lived abroad among foreigners, have a lot of misguided assumptions about life in foreign lands. I mean, they are way off the mark. They always know somebody abroad living in Chinatown, who told them some ridiculous stuff. Focus on fixing yourselves, and speak from your own experiences.

  • YourSupremeCommander

Another privileged “artist” bi-racial couple that lives in a 600 year old Ming temple, with a child named after Khan.

Ooooookaaaaaaaay…. now I have seen everything.

  • Gerhana

The use of contrast really makes this video. From the moment she said of looking for country side in the city transition to the shot between their country house and country life to the one in the big city and it end nicely with the chaotic celebration that makes you unable to distinguish between reality and fantasy. So Jason, when is it are you going to make a full feature film rather than just this 5 minutes documentary? the one where you direct rather than just holding the camera?

I suppose I should add a line or two about interracial relationship. I appreciate the fact that the guy is mocha. About damn time!

  • Zappa Frank

so finally, after many complaints, we have a chinese man-european woman couple.. is someone happy?

  • Cleo

I think a Chinese husband with not be polite enough to refrain from telling a Chinese wife that she has an awful haircut even if their marriage wasn’t built upon true love. However, Chinese-Foreigner marriages often involve being on one’s best behavior at all times and that can also help give their children a more peaceful childhood that will make them more self-confident and poised adults compared to Chinese children.

But it’s a hairshirt regardless of ethnicity to be tied to someone permanently with whom you are not crazy in love.

    • linette lee

      She looks cute.

Chinese people majority don’t care too much about style just like the Americans. They don’t care if you don’t have the latest most popular hairstyle or fashion styles. They dress casual like sweaters, jeans, and sneakers. I find majority of the chinese and Americans in USA are not style obsessive. They like to dress comfortable, not 4 inch high heels and tons of make up.

And I like men dress more casual not make up and tons of hair gels and skin whiteners. I hate men put on more make up than me. Men should look like men. They should be shaved and well grooms. Smell good and plenty of sport or exercise. I hate smokers.

      • Cleo

          • Zappa Frank

of course she cannot be an european black woman, european black women are basically black africans, just arrived. The one in the picture is quite far from beeing an balck african, she has, almost for sure like most american blacks, some white ancestors.

          • SuperHappyCow

I like when people pretend that all Africans were as black as obsidian. Don’t you tools realize that, since Africans are the oldest people, they also have the most diverse genetics, and weren’t all the same skin color? Some were “light skin”, others were “dark.” Being one or the other does NOT indicate one’s fucking ancestry.

          • Zappa Frank

i like when someone just because black think to know something about africans.. like you know talking about light skin or dark sking ignoring toto coelo that we should talk about y genes, and sorry, but analysis of y genes in most black americans males found their origin in europe.. you what it means? or do i have to expalin this too?

          • PixelPulse

A lot of Egyptians had black skin a loooong time ago but Egypt has pretty much been taken over by the Arabs the same way North America has been taken over by white people. You can still find Egyptians that are African thought.

          • Alva

Same applies to Morocco and Tunisia. I dont think is so difficult to find a couple made by a black woman and an asian man, i have seen them, and usually they are good in learning Chinese. How many Chinese factories/ companies are there in Africa ? How many Chinese employees are sent there to work? Many! Is becoming more and more common.
            :-)

          • Zappa Frank

come on.. it’s not just about skin. i’ve seen quite a lot of africans.. she’s not ever close.. her face doesn’t seem nor western nor easter africans.. she obviously has white white acestors in her face.. besides, africans can vary a lot, but africans imported in USA were just western africans, and theri skin wasn’t light at all..

          • SuperHappyCow

Um, yea, but… I don’t know if you can understand this or not, but, everyone else kind of came from Africans. That’s why sometimes Africans will “look like other people”, because the reality is that other people actually look like Africans.

I just don’t see why they should waste their website resources on these articles. They might be interesting for Chinese people, but for the foreigners who see this stuff every day, it’s really of no use, unless you’re looking at the cinematic value of it – which, being in film Little Wolf, you might appreciate. Others come to this site for different purposes though.

Show us those juicy articles that we can’t see on TV here – I don’t particularly like having only ONE English channel – CCTV 9, which is always filled with pretentious foreigners acting like clowns, so this website is a good alternative for those of us who miss watching the news back home to kill the boredom. Guess next time these articles show up, I’m just gonna wait it out like a bad storm.

      • Fair enough, Slob. They better have a humdinger come Monday…what with all the slacking off and all.

      • Kai

Others come to this site for different purposes though.

Yes, and if you look throughout cS’s 4+ years of history, you’ll know that it has posted “non-grit” plenty of times. The grittier stuff is naturally more memorable for a lot of people but you’re being unfair to the site with regards to content. This site is tabloidy, but it isn’t just tabloid articles.

Also, go do a count of the number of posts cS has been putting out and let me know if the number of normal posts are significantly less than normal. For the most part, these feature posts are on top of our normal posts. cS updates about once a day, often 6x a week, depending on people’s schedules. There have been 9 posts over the past week. If you start from today, you’ll count 3 China-Euro videos. If you count from yesterday, you’ll count 2. Not a significant decrease from our cS’s normal posting schedule and content lineup.

It’s one thing to express that you’re not interested in this content. It’s another if you’re taking the time to go on each of these posts that you already know you’re not interested in to then shit on it and possibly ruin it for everyone else. It’s like going into a movie theater for a movie you know you don’t want to watch and then vocally booing it disturbing the other audience members. Not cool.

You might be happy to know that we’ve completed the series of 6 videos we wanted to feature, hence the additions to the format like the thumbnails and links to each of the other featured films. We posted one film every 3 days. You may not be happy to know that there will be a couple more updates regarding this series that you may not like but we do and that others do. Please kindly respect that and do us the courtesy of not complaining about it on every post.

        • bluesummers

          >Please kindly respect that and do us the courtesy of not complaining about it on every post.

Yeah. This is the respect you show to your community.
Ignore the criticism, tell people not to post if you don’t like what they are saying.
Respect works both ways. Don’t talk about respect if you’re not prepared to give it.

          • no

Also deleting posts they don’t like but it’s ok we’re all in china anyway

          • Kai

We don’t delete posts based on whether we like them or not. If that were the case, we apparently like a lot of posts that are contradictory to each other.

We do delete posts that are violations of our comment policy.

          • Kai

We respect our community by knowing not to give into the whims of a vocal minority.

I’ve shown respect to our community by repeatedly acknowledging that there is a subset of readers who don’t like this series, answering their questions, and sharing our reasons for why we posted this series.

You’ve shown us respect by being flippant, accusing us of posting this series to make money, twice, calling the director a stalker, and calling my responses “BS

          • bluesummers

And again, I would like for you to substantiate your claim that it is indeed the minority that dislikes these articles, because from what I can tell, it’s pretty much 50/50 at this point.

Also, who do think a satirical site like this that points out flaws and truths that is normally ignored by the Chinese media caters to? Well, I’ll tell you since you obviously don’t know. Cynics. Most of us are sarcastic. Extraordinary events like the Chinese govt. demolishing poor people’s houses, exploding chairs, fake eggs, etc., all that stuff appeals to us. If you come in here expecting 100% positive feedback to a six part series which fulfills one person’s interracial fetish, then I don’t know why you’re here.

And finally, if it’s not obvious enough already you’re not doing your job properly. Posting through rose-tinted glasses makes you a fool, and being able to hyperlink my posts doesn’t make you clever. Again, why should anyone respect you for that?

          • anonymal

            hi bluesummers,

your point is good but i hope cS wont change into a news site that only post negative issues in China because that would suck. It should be 50/50.

            Regards

          • Kai

This will be my last public response to you because you’re officially just trolling me at this point. If after this you still want to continue the discussion, you can email us and it’ll get directed to me.

How did you get the 50/50 figure? By looking at the comments? Do you think everyone who reads this website comments? About 1% of the people who visit this website might leave a comment. Do you know how much traffic we get? A highly discussed article might get 100 comments, with many of them from the same group of people. Now compare that to our overall traffic. The 1% (less than 1%) claim is obvious to anyone who understands that commenters do not represent all readers. It isn’t a “claim” either, its a statement of fact.

Let’s reason this out further. Just like people who like the article but won’t comment on it, there will also be people who don’t like the article but won’t comment on it either, just moving on with their lives. So that makes it difficult to gauge like/dislike. We therefore may look at other metrics and indicators, such as traffic trends across the series, time on page, reshares, etc. Do you have access to this data or are you just looking at the number of other “vocal” complaints in the comments section?

Let’s go even further: Even if 100% of you guys dislike this article, so what? When did this site become about catering to your whims? As I said in previous responses to this issue, we accept the consequences of people not liking these articles just as we accept that other people don’t like other articles you may like. We can’t make everyone happy, so why do we have to “respect” your whims by giving into your complaints instead of others?

Moving on, what makes you think this is a satirical site? We don’t think our site is satirical. Perhaps you use our site for satire. Other people use it for other things. Again, why should we cater and bend to your preference? You characterize this site by what is most memorable to you. But that’s not an accurate picture of this site’s content or of how others use this site.

No one, least of all me, expects 100% positive feedback. You’re using a straw man there. What I find worthy of discussion is why some people “beat themselves up” by clicking into articles they already know they don’t like. We’re not deceiving you into clicking into these articles. They’re clearly titled. No one is holding a gun up to your head forcing you to watch them. Voicing your dislike once or even twice is understandable, but repeatedly across every article? Maybe you just really don’t like it, but that crosses over into being intentionally uncivil and disruptive.

A lot of our commenters are indeed sarcastic and cynical. But you guys are not the only readers of this website. A lot of our most trafficked and reshared articles are not the most commented ones. You need to get your head around that and understand that you are not representative of our overall audience and it would be foolish of us to cater to the whims of a vocal minority.

I’m not sure how I’m not doing my job properly or what rose-tinted glasses I’m posting through. I don’t think I misunderstand your arguments. Rather, I think you misunderstand how representative you are and how much we should oblige your preferences. I certainly don’t think adding hyperlinks makes me clever. Why are you even offended by me posting hyperlinks anyway?

        • Slob

Do you think I’m the only one that dislikes these articles? Maybe you should read the entire post list then reconsider your position on how many people actually enjoy these articles.

If these articles had something interesting, I mean anything, anything at all, then I and probably some of the others who don’t like it, might be interested in them.

What’s the point of a comments section if it’s only for positive comments? If others don’t like my comments, they can ignore it or downrate them. Wasn’t that the point of bringing back the like/dislike function to the posts?

          • Kai

Where do you get the idea that I think you’re the only one who dislikes these articles? I clearly recognize that there are a subset of readers who don’t. Some of you in this subset have demanded explanations for why we’ve posted or continue to post this series when this subset doesn’t like it. I’ve explained that we don’t base our editorial on the whims of a vocal minority and that there are other readers who do enjoy this content. Isn’t that a reasonable response?

Maybe you shouldn’t assume the vocal minority adequately represents the full spectrum of cS’s readership? I’ve previously said that this vocal minority is literally less than 1% of cS’s daily readership. We have internal traffic statistics for each post. Do you? Do you think you have more information than we do on how each post performs?

Yes, of course if these articles had something interesting to you and those who also feel like you, then you guys would be interested in them. That’s pretty obvious. My point is that just because it isn’t interesting to you doesn’t mean it isn’t interesting at all to all. Wouldn’t you agree? Aren’t there things you find interesting that others don’t?

It’s very difficult for someone to look at our comments section and honestly think we expect only positive comments. That’s a dishonest rhetorical question on your part. We haven’t stopped you from repeatedly clicking on posts you already know you won’t like in order to just complain about them, have we?

It seems a lot of the couples featured are artists. I’m wondering, is it their eccentricity that unites them? To me, they just seem less focused on each other’s race, family background, financial/social status, etc – things that the “rest” of us would almost always consider when choosing a potential partner (though, for me, as long as my partner has a dick and a job, and is white, I’m happy haha).

Does eccentricity come with being an artist, or is it eccentricity that drives you to be an artist?

Anyone care to comment on that?

    • YourSupremeCommander

Because “regular” interracial couples are not “interesting” enough. And by slapping “artist” in front of anything, you automatically become “cool” and “news worthy”.

    • ” (though, for me, as long as my partner has a dick and a job, and is white, I’m happy haha)” You are an extremely shallow person. But that’s no surprise to me. Most gay Asian men I’ve met have a racial inferiority complex.

      • mr.wiener

Meet lots of gay asians do you?

        • Gay Azn Boi

Lol I was just gonna say that.

        • Yes, I’ve dated a few but have been reject by many SIMPLY due to the color of my skin. Yes, I’ve made an honest effort chasing after Asian guys yeah, but most are not willing date fellow minorities (Asian men included!) because that would be considered “lowering their standards” or “forcing attraction.”

There is just an enormous hypocrisy with Gay Asian guys because they expect white men to date non-white men like themselves, when they themselves are largely unwilling to do it. I used to like Asian guys so much until I realized how prejudice and discriminatory they are. However to answer your question with more detail, I focus most of my attention on dating Latino, Black, and Pacific Islander men now because VERY few Asian guys will give me the time of day.

          • Gay Azn Boi

Cool. I didn’t know you were gay lol :p

Well, I’m sorry to hear that. And to be honest, when I just entered the dating scene, the white guys that I used to chase after are EXACTLY like the Asian guys that you described. Well, here’s a personal anecdote. I remember in my freshman year I took an intro to marketing course. One of the first things we learned was that any business idea must be profitable. The second that you realize your business has failed, you need to scrap it, NO MATTER how much you believe in your business. There is no point in running a business that’s not profitable.

That made me realize something – I’m not going to be everyone’s cup of tea. I wasted a ton of time chasing guys that weren’t even interested in me. That’s was just stupid. Now, there are many white guys that don’t like Asian guys, BUT there are also many that do. So afterwards I only chased after the white guys that are into Asian guys, and I think you should take the same approach. Although rare, I’m sure there are Asian guys that are into….?

            Btw, what’s your background Anthony?

          • Gay Azn Boi

Anthony, I do sympathize with you. I was just trying to say that we can’t change how other people act. We can say they’re wrong in their choices but in the end it makes no difference. You can’t force an Asian guy who’s not interested in you to like you, much like I can’t force a white guy who’s not interested in me to like me. BUT there are things we can do to increase our chances of finding a partner.

          • SuperHappyCow

It’s okay. Hopefully some day they can become white, too! Don’t sound so sad? Be happy for them. :>

      • Gay Azn Boi

Anthony, I was merely pointing out that some people – myself included – do not judge our potential partners based on their family/social background, earning potential, status in society…etc. – things that the majority of people (in particular the Chinese) look for.

And you must have come into contact with many gay Asian men ;)

        • I live in SAN FRANCISCO I’m surrounded by you boys.

          • Guest

I would date you. white men are very dry. lolz

        • SuperHappyCow

This, within the context of you saying “has a job and is white”
That’s exactly what you claim you’re not discriminating based on.

“why are people so tired of me”

If you can’t quite put your finger on it, you should probably take your hands out of your ass. You essentially represent the worst of asian culture, and you’ll flaunt that to the day you die, over and under the rainbow.

Whatever. Talking to you is tiresome.

          • Gay Azn Boi

            Okay…..then maybe……I don’t know……like……DON’T talk to me? :D

          • SuperHappyCow

You’re like a slobbish caricature of a white guy that goes around talking about how much he loves to “fuck little asian pussy” because it’s so “tight.” No one would talk to, or trust that guy, but you aggressively want to get away with being that exact creep because you’re gay, and god forbid anyone criticize you for it, because you’ll claim that they hate you for being gay, or some shit.

That dude was right. You ARE a self hating cum dumpster.

            Later.

          • Gay Azn Boi

Guess you don’t know me well enough that you actually believe that cum dumpster can be used as an insult against me.

That’s like calling Bill Gates rich and expecting him to get mad about it.

            :p

          • Gay Azn Boi

And you seem to have a habit of instigating fights with people on the Internet. Chill out dude.

          • SuperHappyCow

I’m not having a fight with you. I’m just trying to let you know that reading your contrived shit makes this site shitty to read.

But first, let me tell again you about this one time I had some really really tight Chinese pussy…

That ugly Chinese & ugly Whites somehow make pretty kids? Just a wild guess.

Must be nice to read your comment for Harrison and Jehanne. Judging people based on their looks is only done by simpletons. Some of the most interesting personalities I have met in my life would not be considered as “pretty” by the mainstream. And again: tastes are different.
I actually think Herrison and Jehanne look like friendly people that enjoy their lives. But who am I to judge?

Out of these six documentaries, two have been about Chinese male-foreign female couples.

As heart-warming as these documentaries may be, this is wildly disproportionate, considering that they account for, oh I don’t know, 0.3% (to give a generous estimate) of Chinese-foreign couples. Perhaps the EU will commission a documentary series about what life is like in the EU, and devote a third of the content to people living in rural Malta. Or maybe we’ll be treated an hour-long, EU-backed album designed to showcase the breadth and depth of the European music scene which contains 20 minutes of Slovenian turbo-folk.

As you are all fully aware, the truth is that the overwhelming majority of expat women would rather be tied up in a sack of used boil dressings for two weeks and be forced to abstain from chocolate for the rest of their lives than choose a mate from amongst the simpering and Warcraft-obsessed ranks of local chumps with their dreadful hairstyles and harrowing halitosis. When a foreign girl does go out with a local, it is invariably because he is *so unlike* the average Chinaman that they were attracted to him in the first place. Hence the preponderance of creative types among the Chinese men dating foreigners.

You might quibble with this analysis because you don’t like the fact that this is all fact, but as per usual you know I’m right.

    • mr.wiener

Totally un-PC, mean spirited and as per bloody usual….right on the money. To quote Jennster: “It’s not racist if it’s true.”

      • SuperHappyCow

Actually, it still could most certainly be racist, and even more importantly, myopic.

        • mr.wiener

My point exactly. Jennster has a habit of using ideas based in truth then spinning them to fill her own ideas. Johnny has done the same thing….but with considerably more wit.

          • SuperHappyCow

:> Fine. I was disappointed in having to feel disappointed about that.

    • Anon992

      Correct.

I would add that there are also the weird ugly sandal wearing misfit type girls that sometimes take in a mainlander as one of their humanitarian aid projects.

Also, the underclass, over-caked, female English teacher will sometimes stretch their standards when they realise all the foreign males are off on ‘language exchanges’ with pretty slim Chinese girls.

As you say, all very rare though.

And err.. ‘Slovenian turbo-folk’ … Classic.

      • Jennster

It is very rare for a pretty slim Chinese girl to date a foreigner and this is coming from a female. Lol. With countryside prostitutes hooking up with ugly laowais in bars, ugly with ugly do produce okay children though. Lol

Ps. Have you watched the latest version of fei Cheng wu ra0? All Chinese guys reject a white lol in the show history.

        • Hmmmm…that’s strange because I’ve only gone out with slim Chinese girls and same with every foreign guy I know. You can’t just pull things out of your ass and try to pass them off as facts just because you want to take cheap shots at foreigners.Lol Also, I don’t go to bars so I wouldn’t know about hooking up with prostitutes though I know for certain I am incapable of producing ugly children. Lol

          • Germandude

You see, she is the living proof that the US-Republicans concerns regarding contraception is a mistake.

          • Oh, I hesitate to blame the parents in this case. Who could have foreseen that that she would be bitten by a Republican as a child and scarred for life?

The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree…

same here, never seen a foreigner with an ugly fat chinese girl.. no matter how old and fat the foreigner is…

          • linette lee

……. I am incapable of producing ugly children……….

LOL….is that your pick up line?

“hi horney, I am incapable of producing ugly children”

          • Germandude

“hi horney, I am incapable of producing ugly children”

haha, gotta admit that one was a good one. Probably someone would even fall for that on the first date here.

          • Shhhiiiiiaaat, I never used a line in my life. I met my ex-wife by throwing a Frisbee at her at the beach….if that counts.

        • Anon992

There’s something in this point. It’s true foreign men often have quite ugly Chinese gf’s.. but that might be related to errmm, personality.

Plus, female English speakers in China are normally pretty ugly. The pretty Chinese girls keep themselves nice and stupid for wealthy Chinese men who can give them the future their mum has told them they MUST have.

The ugly educated English speakers think ‘screw it, I’ll go and have an orgasm with a foreigner instead’ (who am I kidding.. it’s far more likely a ‘don’t screw it for ages, I’ll go and fall fanatically in love with a foreigner instead’).

It’s also true that Chinese men tend not to go for Western women. But then, Chinese men generally don’t go for ANY women who show any signs of having a personality, intelligence, ambition, etc. so this is not something I think foreign girls need to worry about.

          • Anon992

And as for Chinese people constantly asking… ‘why do foreign men always have such ugly Chinese girlfriends?’

1, Sounds really self-loathing (the implication is that Western men deserve the best of Chinese women)

            2, How about personality?

3, And finally, this is an amazing statement to make given the aesthetic mismatches that exist here between beautiful angel looking girls and the most butt ugly old wimpiest/fat husband/boyfriends you will ever see.

The answer to all these points is that, in its most simplest form, love in China is about stability for the women and face for the men.

          • Jennster

Why would they be self loathing if even females say that? It’s a fact. The white will always get leftover girls. China isn’t Korea Japan or Philippines lol. The more powerful it gets the more it will think white as lower class like in history.

          • DavidisDawei

It stands to reason that it is much simpler for a Chinese girl to date a Chinese guy. Same Language, Same Culture.

Today, it is not so difficult to find a “rich” chinese guy, therefore I’d expect most Chinese girls to prefer dating a Chinese guy. A relationship is difficult enough without adding cultural and language barriers.

I suspect most Chinese parents today would prefer their daughter to date and marry Chinese and that expectation/pressure influences many Chinese girls.

This has nothing to do with superiority, but making decisions that create fewer waves.

The Chinese love misery; it is part of their DNA, but that is another topic for another day.

          • linette lee

It’s all about money and power isn’t it? Reality. :(
Chinese parents want their kids to marry to rich educated chinese men. IT’s their goal.

          • DavidisDawei

Linette,Have your parents ever told you they Love you?

Most Chinese I ask tell me their parents have never said that to them. It is a cultural thing that most Westerners would have trouble understanding. Very simply put – They believe that Actions define love; Not Words.

            .

          • Zappa Frank

it’s not a fact, it’s just your opinion that you pretend is a fact… Look eropeans-chinese couples here on chinasmack..are chinese girls there all leftover?

          • Zappy, just for fun I just made up some true facts that I pulled from my ass. Did you know:

Chinese engineering students have a special talent for playing the accordion?
All foreign women married to Asians are left handed?
Eskimos can breathe through their ass (like a turtle) and stay submerged for hours at a time?
Germans have x-ray vision but only when looking through wooden doors?
Australian sausage makers make the best rugby players on account of the unique musculature of their hands from stuffing meat casings, they never fumble or have the ball ripped from their hands?
Kai’s full name is Nickolas Yanopoparopokai? (It’s Dutch/Romanian)
Many Chinese are color-blind to the colors blue and red and allergic to the color yellow?
Say….this is fun. No wonder Jennster likes to do it.

          • Captian obvious

I lived in China for a couple years.. I met several girls who liked me and were beautiful, even by Chinese standards. The problem I had, was they either turned out to be part-time prostitutes (nightclub girls), or they had resorted to prostitution at some point in the past. This fact was not easy to uncover. They hide that dirty little secret well. After a while I realized it was difficult to find a beautiful girl, who hadnt. The girls who didnt were often less attractive ones.

          • DavidisDawei

How did you find out they were working girls?

          • Jennster

All waidiren chicks in foreigner section are hookers and all have aids. Nearly every single one get their material things from working in ktv/massage places/haircut place b4hand saving Up from Chinese customers. The thing is most farmer chicks make 1500rmb per month and this is easier way for them

However if u actually venture out of these areas a lot of ppl are just normal.

          • I respectfully disagree. I mean….really…where did you come up with this “female English speakers in China are normally pretty ugly” theory? Look, you’ve never done anything to me, so you should know I am trying really hard to to keep it to myself that it’s among the dumbest things I’ve ever read……anywhere.
I really need to get out more.

          • Captian obvious

I have to agree with her. There are exceptions, but generally speaking, beautiful girls can get by on their looks and generally dont work as hard academically. As a result, less of them speak English. I met a beautiful girl from a small town who bragged to me, that in her hometown she never had to pay, if she wanted, she just took. Because she was beautiful.. She didnt speak a work of English.

          • Well….I was responding to “Anon992” and must have been staring at the computer screen too long because I realized too late he was just taking the piss. Wasn’t my smartest moment, but hey, we all strike out once in awhile. As for Jennsters “only ugly Chinese girls learn English” I recommend not even wasting our time discussing such a retarded comment.

          • mr.wiener

            Jennster learnt English didn’t she?…..whoops!

          • Jennster

Yep couldn’t have said it any better. :)

Have you heard of beautiful Korean women being gifted to Chinese dynasties for tribulation, and not the other way around? Because china was most powerful @ the time. Given the situation now, it is very rare for a top notch Chinese to want a laowai. Just don’t brag about getting uglies. LOL

          • mr.wiener

Jennster and Anon, when you have quite finished patting yourselves on the back, I’d like to respond.

            1. In contradiction of your “mostly ugly girls speak English and chase foreigners ” i’d like to respond…bullshit. I’ve seen some gorgeous women with older and less attractive foreign guys. The only germ of truth in this argument is that it is perhaps less traditional and adventurous spirits who are prepared to try expats, and it seems once you’ve had black there is no going back . Or conversely once you’ve had white nothing else is alright.

2.Older women [over 30, good god!]divorcees and women who for whatever silly reason are considered “poor goods” by Chinese society often find happy matches with foreigners. A win win situation for all concerned I would have thought, why the condescension? Let us not forget foreigners seem to find Asian women attractive who are not thought of as attractive by their own cultures, for example: Lucy Liu [small eyes high cheekbones and freckles! shock horror!]

3.I think you two are for too concerned about outward appearances [from people who choose not to post photos of themselves no less]. If that is how you choose to live your lives go right ahead. It’s a pity if that is the case.

          • Germandude

It’s pretty obvious that Anon is trolling Jennster. Admittedly, he is doing it on a bit too high level as you can see Jennster even agreeing with him, not realising that he included her in this:

“Chinese men generally don’t go for ANY women who show any signs of having a personality, intelligence, ambition”.

I’d say that fits her perfectly, doesn’t it?

          • mr.wiener

            like a glove.

          • ooops!

          • Jennster

Why would I take offence to that since I am not male and what he said is true LOL.

Have you heard of the terms “li xin” and ‘gan xin’ people? the white fall in the latter throughout their life. the chinese fall in the latter in the 18-21 age period, but becomes pragmatics after their mid 20s. this is how life is supposed to be darl. :D

          • Germandude

LOL, can you read? Any guy interested in a girl that HAS personality, intelligence and ambition, WOULDN’T be interested in you.
Just to let you know: personality, intelligence and ambition are good attributes. The stuff you let lose on chinasmack makes readers believe that you are a simple-minded, money-worshipping, stereotyping simpleton without ambition, personality and intelligence.

          • Jennster

            1. I have a boyfriend. Dont’ sidetrack my comment.

            2. I said that is generally true if based on western definition. it’s due to the li xin mindset of chinese people (brain > emotion). personlity/intelligence/ambition of westeners in our view is wildness/selfishness whereas in china its more elegant/filial/collective. that is why 99% of successful chinese aren’t interested in white due to cultural issue.

            3. Btw, I have a double degree in Commerce/Economics and 8th grade in piano and play violin dear.

            4. Yes Shanghai <3 me.

          • mr.wiener

Thank the flying spagetti monster for the 1%.
I could launch into a “I’m not saying Chinese aren’t classy…but” tirade. Except that would be superfluous to requirements.
I’ll just settle for saying that you seem to fit in with the remaining 99% quite nicely.
You know you’re in deep do-do when an Australian calls you out for being low class.

          • Jennster

I’m not an Australian and your people are ugly with ugly English. Try compare your average 20 pts lower convict iq with chinas let alone mine lol. Know your place. Btw thanks for the degree.

          • Germandude

Jennster, may I ask how tall you are?

          • linette lee

You study in Australia and you don’t like it there? Why?

I like USA. I like it because of their gov’t system. I like their beliefs and their effort to practice it. They encourage cultural diversity. Zero tolerance for racial discrimination. Equal opportunity. The gov’t preach those publicly. They have no child left behind act in their school system, which help even kids with disadvantage to achieve and succeed to the best of their abilities. All these things are important in a good society. USA is a good country.

          • mr.wiener

You’re welcome. Apparently I’m now a kettle of noir complection.

          • Adding “LOL” to your own stupid facts that you pull out of your ass is not indicative of a high IQ or intellect. Also, no photo, no calling anybody ugly.
(Check it wiener. Indicative. Do I have my ugly English down or what?)

          • Jennster

Aren’t u American and Indian? No yank English doesn’t sound so bad

          • Gerhana

put your picture up Jennster, I also want to see how you look like. Must be like your personality, like a chilli, red and spicy.

          • Aristarchus

Hi. From a cognitive science / cross-cultural psych perspective,
the characterizations here are pretty silly. Brain-emotion dichotomy is daft, as the latter are superordinate processes facilitated by the former.

I think for ‘brain’ Jennster means some analogue of rational / logical / reflective / analytical, etc. But the empirical record has it
going mostly the other way, with Westeners favoring analytic models over more intuitive (e.g., emotional) approaches and Easterners favoring the latter. Check out Nisbett’s ‘Geography of Thought’ for something accessible, or check out Peng, Choi, & Norenzayan’s ‘Analytic vs. Holisitc Cognition’ for a meta-review.

          • Germandude

Yes, russian prostitutes in Shanghai charge about 8 times more than Chinese ones. And it’s not the foreigners going to them. Mostly locals.

          • linette lee

hahhaa…how do you know that. You bad boy!!!! I am going to tell your wife.

          • Germandude

Tell her then. I have some friends who are pretty active in that “scene”. Plus, it’s no secret actually when going out in Shanghai. There is one club where all Asian hookers are (Phillipinos, Vietnamese, Thai…). The Chinese ones are mostly inside Karaoke bars and small barber shops or pink shops and the Russian ones are mostly active in the most expensive establishments.

          • linette lee

Why all the chinese hookers when china is in such a shortage of women? Aren’t they supposed to all married to a man and not be hookers? Where they have extra unmarried girls to be hookers.

          • Germandude

Where there is a demand, there is a supply.

          • Captian obvious

When there is a shortage or women, prostitution increases. Because an opportunity opens up. Supply and demand.

          • Jennster

but ukrainian/russian women here are at least good looking. the countryside prostitutes aren’t in chinese standards lol. so my original comment is correct afterall. and it is very rare for a 20-30 aged shanghai local to want a laowai lol. FACT :)

          • Germandude

You see, tastes are different. I for example don’t like women that put tons of make up into their faces. Many ukrainian women do so. I also don’t like blonde girls so much, don’t know why. I prefer brown and black hair.

Beauty is subjective and I don’t judge other people purely on their appearance. Beauty will fade away with age. It’s easy for a smart person to pretend being stupid but for a stupid person pretending to be smart is much more difficult.

By the way, I don’t know any other country where people have so much hate towards their fellow countrymen than China. It’s pathetic when you need to distinguish between Shanghainese and non-Shanghainese, putting the later into a bad light so that yourself is looking better, isn’t it?

          • Zappa Frank

whenever you write something like this you really sound like a girl who has been refused by laowais and than like to find a justification like a fox for the grape.

        • Erdos

          >this is coming from a female

I’m kind of doubtful of this assertion to be honest. Every post you make reeks of pent up passive aggression of the chronic masturbation variety.

Either you are a male pretending to be a female because you feel it will butress your points, or you are an extremely unfeminine female.

          • mr.wiener

            I’m leaning to the latter.

          • Erdos

Nah, the name “Jennster” sounds like something a guy pretending to be a girl would come up with. It’s like he sat down and thought “Hm, let’s think of a common female name and then just suffix ‘-ster’ to the end to make it sound more internet lingo-ey!”.

The sad thing is that when you’re active on Asian blogs such as Chinasmack, you notice the same, mostly male, Asian-American faces popping up over and over again, year after year, in perpetuity. They mostly come from AsiaFinest, and it’s sort of depressing when you see the same people making the same arguments about the same topics literally 6 or 7 years after you first noticed them. Yhalothar/ISN from AsiaFinest comes to mind for example. He’s been complaining about Asian females dating White males and wishing brutal murder-rape upon White females for more than half a decade now, yet he still keeps going, whether it’s the American Renaissance comments section, China History Forum, Shanghaiist etc. You would have thought, if these girls were so ugly, it wouldn’t bother him so much, but I’ve seen openly contradictory statements on this regard. Near-pathological rage about white guys dating beautiful girls in Taipei to newly reasserted claims that white guys only date ugly Asian girls.

The funniest examples are when the Asian-American dude starts claiming that Japanese girls belong to him (Chinese or Korean) despite wishing death upon the Xiao Riben 3 comments earlier.

So much second hand embarassment for these people….

          • Jennster

The more you bash asian men the more I will defend them because I don’t see any defence from them here and it’s a pity. Why would I hate my fellow asian men along with your kind? So you are going to disrespect my father? I don’t get rejected by guys of my own race because i’m not an ugly waidiren going for ugly laowais in bars lol.

          • Your fellow Asian men? You’re an Asian man?

          • linette lee

Chinese girls don’t like it when men from other countries bash our chinese men. Don’t try to impress us by putting down our chinese men. We will get very pissed and protective.

Chinese men are our fathers, brothers, and the little chinese boy we fell deeply in love with during our junior years in school. We love our chinese men. Majority of us don’t hate non chinese men. But the non chinese men shouldn’t bash or disrespect our chinese men. It’s like disrespecting our fathers.

Chinese in general have very strong family bond and are very family oriented. I will not marry to a man who disrepect my father. And when I marry to a man, I will love and take care of his parents too. I will not disrespect his father even if he is not chinese.

          • Being wrong but belligerently sticking to your guns while insulting others in the process…….way to go Jennster. You’ve accomplished your dream of becoming an American Republican.

          • Erdos

There is no systematic campaign to attack Asian men on here Bruce. The comments poking fun at them are isolated examples and you can find similar slander against Westerners on any Chinese websites. People in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. The only East Asian ethnicity that consistently uphold politeness as a virtue are the Japanese. Chinese and Koreans are just as rude and vulgar as the worst Westerners.

By the way: Your delusional paranoia gives the game away. I don’t attack Asian men. I attack Chinese and Korean American twats. Most actual East Asian men are, in my experience, good natured people (although Koreans have insane tempers on them).

You’re just another shitposter from AsiaFinest.

          • Germandude

Jennster in my eyes is a girl. Check out the rubbish she is posting on http://www.shanghaiexpat.com and you should be able to figure out.

      • Yesway

Nope, have seen pretty white girls going for Chinese guys.

Just like some Western guys come here because they fall for Chinese girls, there are also western girls who are pretty crazy about Asian guys.

        • Zappa Frank

never ever seen any pretty white girl with a chinese guy (not mainland guy at least), and never hear talk about it… i’m sure there are, but just like one in one milion.

          • Yesway

There are not even a million white women in China, and I’ve seen several going for Mainland guys.

Perhaps you and your set of friends don’t really hang out with such women (some of whom are foreign students, but also some who work in China), since you’re probably more interested in Chinese women who fall for you or white women who fall for you and your equally minded friends.

          • Zappa Frank

if the kind of women you mean are russian prostitues, yes, never hang out with them. About normal white girls i’ve seen them with africans, indians and so on…but never with chinese mainlanders (sometime with ABC..or XBC).. But, as you said, may be my limited point of view.

    • linette lee

      racist pig.

    • Anon992

I will add to your point that… it’s prob a lot to do with massive cultural differences than bad breath though.

Western girls tend to want wit, charm, shared interests, good looks. Chinese girls tend to look for ‘a husband’. So in these cases, looks and personality are not as important as wealth, reliability and devotion.

Obviously the Chinese way is miserable, boring, and hopelessly cynical but hey… we rich so we can mess about without pressure from parents who nearly starved and a society where women are offered little without their husbands.

Stuck in their personalities formed to please a traditional Chinese society Chinese men can only attract the weird, sinophiled and the desperate of Western girls.

    • Mens_ReaL

Hyperbole aside, this is probably true. But most likely due to economic reasons rather than any real “aesthetic” reason.

Give it twenty years; when the Chinese become our overlords, and the Chinese garbage that couldn’t make it in China go to the West to find work, you will probably see more of this type of couple. Although, at that point, it will still be foreign men with local girls, even if the ethnicities are reversed.

Disclaimer: Just kidding there is no yellow peril I swear.
Disclaimer 2: Not to imply all Westerners in China are garbage that couldn’t make it in their own countries. Some of my best friends are Westerners leading very successful careers in China. The ones exhibiting overt racism tend to be overcompensating for something though….

      • Jennster

It is not racism though. In traditional Chinese culture Chinese guys don’t want their offspring to be mutt blooded. This is why even the richest Chinese guys in todays society would not accept a foreigner woman in. The trend is getting stronger given chinas rise, unlike rich countries of Japan and koreA being reversed :)

Oh did I mention Chinese with foreigners in all western countries is lowest after for Vietnamese with Vietnamese.

        • mr.wiener

Which is fine and dandy for the top end of traditional Chinese culture. The greater mass of Chinese guys can’t afford [literally] to be so picky. With the demographics skewed in favor of men to women in china it’s a case of get any bride you can.
“Mutt blooded” indeed, shades of Harry Potter. I’m glad I’m a muggle.

        • Mens_ReaL

I wasn’t responding to you (or even in earnest). My attempt was to be somewhat subtle, but if it needs to be spelled out, this is what I (and with good reason) found racist and hyperbolic:

“the majority of expat women would rather be tied up in a sack of used boil dressings for two weeks and be forced to abstain from chocolate for the rest of their lives than choose a mate from amongst the simpering and Warcraft-obsessed ranks of local chumps with their dreadful hairstyles and harrowing halitosis.”

I don’t see any statements about traditional Chinese guys and their preference for only Chinese women. But since you responded, I find your post almost as offensive (if not slightly incomprehensible from a syntactical perspective).

Prior to the US becoming more liberalized, there was a preference among white Americans for other whites. As people in the US liberalized, the concept of “miscegenation being evil” became more unpopular and eventually vilified. You now have very successful Caucasians in the US married to women of color. To ascribe some unique aura of perpetuity to Chinese cultural prejudices is a sadly too common trend among many Chinese commentators.

And just to provide some background, I am a “mutt,” resulting from a successful Chinese businessman and a white mother from a good family. I am in touch with my Chinese culture, but have also had the benefits of a top Western education. As a counter-example, my case is not the strongest; I am just one person, and will acknowledge that my own background is rare. But to categorically say that Chinese guys don’t want their children to be “mutt blooded” is offensive, to me personally and to a realistic view of the way human attraction evolves.

    • Yesway

“as per usual you know I’m right.”

The gentelman doth protest too much.

Aw, the foreign male can’t stand it that some white women choose Chinese men turns up. Knew there was going to be a comment like this.

You’re wrong. More and more expat women are dating Chinese men. Maybe you don’t like that fact, because you think women (Chinese and non-Chinese) should all worship Western guys, but that’s the truth less and less.

      • Erdos

Why do you Asian dudes hate white guys yet love our women?

I don’t know a single white dude, especially the Asiaphilic kinds, who hate Asian men.

All of your hatred is one sided my friend. It makes you appear doubly pathetic. If you marry a white girl, your children will be half-white. Most Eurasians, in my experience, identify more with their European side. Go to Singapore and see for yourself if you don’t believe me. Don’t you think you Asian men who dislike White guys but want white women are going to create a kind of neurotic condition in any future offspring you have with white women?

Again: Hating the males of one race yet desiring the females is a recipe for disaster.

        • Mens_ReaL

This statement is filled with ferrous.

“Yo, why do you stupid Asian males hate white guys. But you love our women. We love Asian women but we don’t hate Asian dudes. You are so pathetic. Doubly so. I agree with the above poster that Chinese men are pathetic mouth-breathers that won’t attract any female attention. So stop hating us.”

          • Erdos

That’s a rather fantastical extrapolation. It bears no resemblance to the reality of what I said. I don’t prefer Asian women to White ones, like most White men. The only people who think White men prefer Asian women in any substantial numbers and Asian women who want to boost their own self-esteem and Asian-American men

          • Mens_ReaL

Is it? I thought your post was in response to Yesway, and a defense of Johnny Basic.

But if it isn’t, and you just happened to write a reply to put in your unrelated two cents, then I would agree with you. I really don’t like Asian men that hate white men. I don’t like white men that hate Asian men. As long as both are held in equal disdain, I got no problems.

Also I do have quite a few Asian American friends who hate that white men date Asian women. Which is stupid. If my uncle married an Asian woman, I think my dad (Chinese) would be happy, since he would have someone else to speak Chinese with at family gatherings.

        • themig

          this video should explain all

          • Erdos

Hasn’t the whole youtube “I’m Asian and American! Culture Clash! Isn’t that CUH-RAY-ZEE?!” ‘comedy act’ run its course yet? It’s painfully unfunny.

  • Cipher

I enjoy watching these videos, but it does make we wonder if the EU only has white people living there. It’s nice seeing these video, but show me more then just white people living in China, because there are more then just white people dating chinese. I’m Latino and I’m married to the most wonderful chinese woman.

    • hess

And are you from the EU?

    • Zappa Frank

well you know, EU people tend to be white.. there are immigrants of course, but europeans are still mostly white, by far.

    • Alice S

      Good for you.

  • Righteous American

    Fucking hippies.

  • Gerhana

Actually all this demand will be difficult for Jason to fill, in fact, he doesnt have to. The video he created are for bridging the gap between China and Europe and as we can see from various article in chinaSMACK, not many of Chinese or at least the popular thought and stream of thinking are not too open-minded especially with the case of homosexuality and relationship with darker skin individual. If he were to create videos that explore this issues, many China Chinese may not be able to accept it, and he would fail his goal and the European side that backed him up in this video will also blame him. He is standing on top of the fence to try and please the audience that are used with multiculturalism, the China Chinese and the European.

If he wants to make those video that everyone demand, it will be out of his own interest not from this European-Chinese video with the aim to promote the two.

This Harrisson and Jehanne video makes me reminisce ‘raise the red lantern’, the style is there. Anyway his shooting skill is great if he were to make movie with this kind of quality he may have a chance to win those movie awards.

his skill is worth appreciating, it will be ashamed if he didnt use this to further his own name by directing his own movie.

here is his imdb (same name)

    http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2355794/

  • vincent

Well for those of you who are interested and since you probably won’t see it on ChinaSmack anyway here’s a round up of the news:
    1) The assailant who bashed in the head of his countryman during the protests over Senkaku / Diaoyu islands has been caught.
    2) In Hainan two Chinese argued over whether China or Japan would win in a hypothetical war over the Islands, the argument got heated to the point where one was killed, google it for details.
    3) 2 people died while running a race ( not a marathon which is a hell of a lot longer) in Guangzhou, leading netizens to wonder whether the sedentary life style is causing Chinese to become the ‘Sick men of Asia’.
    4) China has a masturbation contest (I didn’t see that one coming ), there’s a video too http://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XNDgxNDg2MzY4.html , I would advise against clicking on it.

    • Gay Azn Boi

LOL. Can you give us a little background info on the masturbation contest? I can barely read Chinese so I don’t know its purpose was. All I saw was a bunch of chicks holding dildos and men jerking off into buckets.

      • vincent

        Sure, this is the link
        http://www.ministryoftofu.com/2012/12/chinas-first-masturbation-contest-unveiled-before-world-aids-day/
and it was originally translated from weibo, basically it was a contest
held in Shenzhen by a sex toys company and the prize would go to
whoever took the longest to rub out out lol.
I’m just surprised that the last woman with the leopard print didn’t kill their boners, there’s more info in the link. :)

        • mr.wiener

          Ah, kinda like soggy biscuit.

          • vincent

They went on to form an all boy/men band called limp bizkits.

        • Gay Azn Boi

          haha brilliant.

  • elizabeth

‘Very simple’, ‘very romantic’ story but also very unusual couple with utterly profound thoughts especially from Harrison.

    Their children are very fortunate.

  • asd

I’m really getting annoyed with these types of articles BUT at least this article is a little different (i.e. foreign female, asian male).

  • Dave

lol in a country with 1.3 billion people, they decide to post 4 marriage articles in a week… talk about going to a new low. I am sure there is nothing else interesting going on in the middle kingdom.

  • Anyone can talk to me?I am new, I don’t know how to use this website, post a discussion and my blog here?

    • DavidisDawei

      Huanying miao.
      Ni de jia zai nali?

      • Crazy, this website makes the things so complicated, I don’t know where to see your profile, where to write blog and discussions. Hi, David, I am in Shenzhen, and you?

        • Chinese

No, you don’t write blogs, you only write comments here.

        • DavidisDawei

          Hi,
My Home is North of Boston Massachusetts in the NorthEastern part of the United States. We just had our first snow here this week. If you haven’t tried cross country skiing before, I Highly Recommend it if you ever get the chance.

Regarding Chinasmack, they have changed the comment section a couple times this year. This new system (Discus) has up and down votes at the bottom of each comment, but I don’t know if these votes have any impact on your status other than to provide feedback on what readers think about your comment.

To leave a comment, I think you have two options:
          1) Click on reply if you want your blurb to link to someone else’s comment – I believe the person you are replying to is notified by email that you replied to them
          2) Leave a comment at the beginning of the comment section to start a new thread (unlinked)

I don’t think most people set up profiles so I rarely look at them. In fact, I have noticed that some commenters on this site will change their user name (or have multiple user names).

Give it time and you will be a veteran in no time.

          • Gay Azn Boi

Lol. DavidisDawei, why don’t you be straight up with miaorenmiaoyu and tell her what’s really on your mind? ;)

    • Zappa Frank

this is a blog, but not your blog. here you can write your comments about articles of this blog.

      • ScottLoar

Very well expressed, a rarity here, but a pity that you ignore the convention of capital letters which even the Chinese newbie uses.

        • Zappa Frank

my language use capital letters as well, so my sin is even worst. i deserve to be punished with torture…

  • dim mak

Are these Euro-Chinese articles a regular thing now?

Surely there are more interesting things to post about

Then again, they do make good trollbait

  • mattman_183

Surprised people still have any fucks left to give on these mixed race relationship stories. The person who made these videos must have been connected somehow to the Chinasmack guys to get this much play on the same topic.

I like my Chinasmack stories new and fresh, not recycled CCTV 9 style drivel. No smack in that…

  • Oh, dammit, this nonsense again. If these keep going, they’re going to overturn chinaSMACKs readership.

  • stoutboy

I just want to say that with the exception of one installment, I’ve enjoyed this series. Bluesummers and other critics: get bent. If you don’t like it, don’t watch. There’s plenty of other content on this site. They’ve even grouped it all into categories, for your convenience. Can’t get any simpler, really.

  • Alva

I see a lot of controversy with these videos..I do like them, maybe because I am tired of bad news or because I am tired of those videos that, even though they are real, they show the ugly part of this country.

Not every single topic is going to be for you, and only for you, some topics are addressed to other audience, some topics are interesting because it the writer loves the topic and is an expert on it, then the result is much better.

I do think the person behind all this work likes what he is doing, he likes movies, he likes working with people, he likes China, cultures and he likes to be open to other cultures.

Let’s give the editors some freedom to talk, and even if some of you think a minority like it, so what? Dont you think a minority has the right to enjoy this?

  • David Kenneth Stone

I don’t like these videos. They are symptomatic of the European
Union’s push to make everything everywhere multi-cultural porridge.
Think about it. What’s their motivation for producing these videos.
My own country, the UK, has been turned into a fractured and
balkanised nation, due to the pervasive multiculturalism spewed from
the EU. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not isolationist. I’ve been living in
China since 2001, my wife is Chinese, and so is my son. I’ve lived and
worked in 14 countries in the past 30 years. However, I am suspicious
of government policies of pressing cultures together, such as those
espoused by the EU. How people relate and get along, or don’t get
along, should not be a subject of government intervention, as this
    clearly is.

  • Maja

Belgium? I’m from Belgium too. Really inspiring.

How cute! I reckon by her accent that her mother tongue is French not Flemish or German… Belgian French-speaker don’t have that horrid Frenchie accent!
