Lyrics (Original Chinese, Pinyin Romanization, and English Translation):

LOVE WILL BE YOUR MUSE

他眼神 湛蓝 像从 爱琴海边 刚归来
tā yǎn shén zhàn lán xiàng cóng ài qín hǎi biān gāng guī lái
His eyes, azure, looks like he just got back from an Aegean beach

上半身 像诗人 下半身像 流浪汉
shàng bàn shēn xiàng shī rén xià bàn shēn xiàng liú làng hàn
The upper part of his body, is like a poet’s, the lower part of his body, is like a wanderer

你爱他 神秘 爱他 危险 YEAH
nǐ ài tā shén mì ài tā wēi xiǎn
You love hi, [for being] mysterious; love hi, [for being] dangerous, yeah

爱他 颓废 爱他的优越
ài tā tuí fèi ài tā de yōu yuè
Love him, [for being] decadent; love him, [for his] sense of superiority

他心里的野兽 比毕卡索更 狂野
tā xīn lǐ de yě shòu bǐ bì kǎ suǒ gèng kuáng yě
The demons in his heart, are wilder than those in Picasso

桃花比村上隆 画的更泛滥 鲜艳
táo huā bǐ cūn shàng lóng huà de gèng fàn làn xiān yàn
[His] peach blossoms [a metaphor referring to the admiration a man receives from women] are more and brighter in color than the ones painted by Takashi Murakami

他爱你 随和 爱你 方便
tā ài nǐ suí hé ài nǐ fāng biàn
He loves you, [for being] easy-going; loves you, [for your] convenience

YEAH 敢怒不敢言
YEAH gǎn nǔ bù gǎn yán
Yeah, you dare to be angry but don’t dare to voice it

你自我催眠 他是艺术家
nǐ zì wǒ cuī mián tā shì yì shù jiā
You hypnotize yourself, [that] he is an artist

你给他色盘 去拼贴背叛
nǐ gěi tā sè pán qù pīn tiē bèi pàn
You give him the palette, to collage betrayal

他不是梵谷 也不是莫内
tā bú shì fán gǔ yě bú shì mò nèi
He is not van Gogh; nor is he Monet

他的模特儿 却都从来不缺少 Huh
tā de mò té er què dōu cóng lái bù quē shǎo Huh
He never runs out of models though, huh

PRE-CHORUS:

面对你他装的 乖的 乖的
miàn duì nǐ tā zhuāng de guāi de guāi de
In front of you, he pretends to be goody good

背对你却乱来 坏的 坏的
bèi duì nǐ què luàn lái huài de huài de
But behind your back, he misbehaves as bad as they come

NE NE NE NE NE… NEVER STOP
Ne Ne Ne Ne Ne… Never stop

他只想搜集 更多 芭比娃娃
tā zhǐ xiǎng sōu jí gèng duō bā bǐ wá wa
He just wants to collect even more Barbie dolls

The love you create with all your heart is priceless

Wake up 别再做慈善家
Wake up bié zài zuò cí shàn jiā
Wake up, don’t be a philanthropist anymore

你其实 没有那么爱他
nǐ qí shí méi yǒu nà me ài tā
[because] you actually don’t love him that much

CHORUS #2:

爱是缪思女神的吻
ài shì miù sī nǚ shén de wěn
Love is the kiss from Goddess Muse

Everyone should be tattooed with excessive affection

GO GET IT.GO GET IT.
Go get it. Go get it.

The kind of beauty can give birth to Venus

你无需 忍受他的
nǐ wú xū rěn shòu tā de
You don’t need to put up with his

人在曹营 心在汉
rén zài cáo yíng xīn zài hàn
“presence in the Cao camp while his heart is leaning towards Han” [a Chinese idiom describing disloyalty]

要学会 放下不甘 戒掉母性泛滥
yào xué huì fàng xià bù gān jiè diào mǔ xìng fàn làn
You need to learn how to give up your unwillingness [to see other women take away the boyfriend], and renounce your maternal instinct [the tendency to give and sacrifice]

他要你 让让 你就 让让 YEAH
tā yào nǐ ràng ràng nǐ jiù ràng ràng YEAH
[When] he asks you to make concessions, you just make concessions, yeah

说的爱你 只是嚷嚷
shuō de ài nǐ zhǐ shì rǎng rang
The “I love yous” he says, are just empty words

他的 博爱 始终没有极限
tā de bó ài shǐ zhōng méi yǒu jí xiàn
His universal love [fickleness and flirtatiousness in love] has no limits

复制 谎言 瓶颈不曾出现
fù zhì huǎng yán píng jìng bù céng chū xiàn
[When he] duplicates his lies, the “bottleneck” never comes up [meaning you never stop him]

你该说再见 就说再见
nǐ gāi shuō zài jiàn jiù shuō zài jiàn
You must say goodbye, just say goodbye

YEAH 千万别留恋
YEAH qiān wàn bié liú liàn
Yeah, never ever look back

No good offering me youtube links, my VPN been blocked out past month

        • linette lee

Why you can’t watch youtube links?

          • MrT

Chinese government blocked VPN systems because of the foreign agencies trying to kick sht up over here.

            You know how it is.

            Youku works great thou.

        • linette lee

you mean you can’t see this?

          • MrT

            Luckily no.
also youtube I put in the same class as Facefook and Twatter and avoid as much as possible.
Maybe you could re-upload it to youku?

          • linette lee

I like to watch youtube. I am not too familiar with youku. Youku has high definition?

      • linette lee

        here, this is more fun.

  • I love this song.

Not sure if it’s cool for me to be saying that on ChinaSmack, but there, I said it.

    Deal with it, cynical assholes!

  • Slob

Jolin is the hottest pop star I have ever seen. Spears, Aguilera, Pink, Beyonce etc. They’re all scrubs. Check her in the video for Jin Tian Ni Jia Gei Wo and admire her awesome body even in simple clothing.

Those lips, that body, that smile…dear lord I just came buckets.

    • PixelPulse

Calling Beyonce a scrub is punishable by death in some countries.

      • linette lee

Beyonce is absolutely beautiful. One of the most beautiful woman on the planet if you ask me. She is also a good singer.
@slob, you just like skinny asian girl. Asian girls are like 100lb so skinny.
I am an asian girl but I am fat. I am like 112lb. :(

        • Zappa Frank

12lbs is the difference between skinny and fat?o_O

          • Greg

LOL maybe if she’s like 3 feet tall?

          • DavidisDawei

            HaHa – I gain 12# at breakfast.
The singer in that video (whoever she is) is WAY TOO THIN. Her legs look like one long stick.

      • Zappa Frank

listen that music has replaced the death sentence in some countries.
besides..really someone listen spears, aguillera, beyonce and pink? i thought just teenagers…

        • PixelPulse

You should repent before god smit’s thee

    • Greg

LOL she’s not THAT hot and those other girls are definitely not scrubs!

  • YourSupremeCommander

The song is about Edison Chan.

    • Jennster

i searched his scandals up and eww pics

  • redgirls

Do you remember the good old days before the ghost town?

    • MrT

      I do.

      • redgirls

It’s just the same old show on my radio!

  • Ray Mason

One more fraud to add to that list of entertainers you got there. Would this she be anywhere today without those fellatio lips of hers? Would she be able to call herself an artist/e today?

Mr Chinasmack, why do you insist on promoting the mediocre (Stephanie Sun) and the slutty and devoid of talent (Jolin Tsai)?

    • Obviously the point isn’t for us to go out and buy their music, but to practice our Chinese (if we wish) from the translated lyrics.

It really isn’t that hard to find quality music on your own—you don’t need chinaSMACK’s staff to spoonfeed it to you.

      • Roihu

It is when you don’t have any Chinese connections. :P

    • Jennster

      LOL

shu qi has the similar look. i think guangdong/fujian has more of that kind of looks.

  • linette lee

Thank goodness rensi. finally you post somethng that’s popular among the young chinese audience. Not like those old songs from old singers you always post.
I am not a fan of jolin though. I don’t really like her.

    • Maybe somebody over 25 should be doing this music section since you don’t have a fucking clue about anything involving a shred of quality.

      • Kai

Arguing about the “quality” of music is like arguing about beauty. It’s pretty darn subjective. Jolin is a pop star, like Bieber. Hate them however much you want, or criticize the pop music industry, but they’re still legitimately popular.

I also think you’re being unreasonably harsh to Rensi. There’s no need to make it so personal. Geez, what did she ever do to you, man?

        • It’s fine that you stand behind your staff. But how did I make it personal? Who the hell is Rensi? Is it a boy or a girl? Ok….now I know …a girl. Hardly anybody knows who is who around here. I just replied to the comment, not the person. I have to put up with way worse worse shit everyday.
I still stand by my comment though since that is my opinion but thanks for that pearl of wisdom about music. I would have never thought of it.

          • Kai

Dude, your comment was about her being under 25 and her not having “a fucking clue about anything involving a shred of quality”. How is that not unreasonably harsh and personal? Making something personal is to attack someone’s person, You attacked her as a person who doesn’t know anything about “quality” with some colorful adjectives that are unreasonably harsh. Relax, man.

          • I heard you the first time and still don’t feel bad so maybe you should relax. You want me to send her a box of Gummi-Bears? If she has a problem with me she can speak up since I assume she’s a grown-up.
            Dude.

          • Greg

That was an assholish comment to someone you don’t know. You’re throwing a temper tantrum because someone called you out on it.

          • So is your’s. Though, I don’t see anybody having a tantrum here. Maybe you should learn some context before you go flapping your jaw and try to bandwagon on me.

          • Rensi, I know it’s hard not to take criticisms personally and I usually am only a jerk to people that have been a jerk to me first unless it is somebody whose demeanor just really rubs me the wrong way. You did neither but I explained in another comment to Matt why I was unkind to you. Do not be discouraged by mine or other people’s rudeness. As they say in Hollywood “If half of the people loves you and half of the people hate you, then baby, you’re a star”
This website is full of sharks and I’m prepared to get ripped to shreds every time I press “SEND”. You might as well get used to it.
Now…I will say that maybe you’re a big fan of Jolin and that’s ok. But I have my reasons why that music makes me physically angry in a pretty abnormal way. It’s too complex for me to explain here. On the upside, the more this kind of music gets played, it will anger people enough until they are sick of it and the next generation of pissed off bands like Korn and Alice In Chains are born.

        • linette lee

I think Rensi should just post singers or songs that are popular among chinese at present time. It sort of give foreigners an idea of what’s popular inside China. It will help them to understand chinese society and culture more. Like for me seeing lady gaga and justin bieber and one direction on usa tv all the time, I understand that’s what usa people like. That is what’s popular and most talked about.

          • “Like for me seeing lady gaga and justin bieber and 1 direction on usa tv all the time, I understand that’s what usa people like.”

            Oh God. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      • The point of this series is to learn Chinese from the song, not to fawn over its compositional greatness. Get a clue.

        • Really? Where does it say that? There’s alot of other commenters on this thread who didn’t get the memo either but I guess it’s “let’s burn on Little Wolf ” day”. And why not discuss the music? It’s a chance to “network” with other music enthusiasts and maybe be recommended some other good Chinese bands.(like ChthoniC, that was the band, thanks)
So I’m going to try to put this shit to rest right here. (Not directing this at you Matt, I just want to have the comment posted in this area) Yes, I probably was over-rude to Rensi. Sometimes things don’t come out the way I meant or get taken out of context through the Internet. Sometimes I am just a fucking asshole. In this case, probably a little bit of each. I have a daughter in college and it’s not my nature to bully a young girl who is maybe just an intern and trying to do the best they can. In fact, when I see people making effort I will bend over backwards to help them move forward. In my defense,(if you want to call it a defense) I did not know who this Rensi person was when I wrote the comment. There are so many posers and frauds and sock puppets it’s hard to know who is who around here. Sometimes it’s the Internet version of “The Jerky Boys” or “Do you have Prince Alpert in a can”. For all I know, Kai could be Rensi.
I really take issue with zeal Kai has used to single me out as a prick. I have to deal with personal attacks every day from random shit heads that I never met. So do alot of people here. I have tried to de-fuse unpleasantries over the years I participated on this site. So has “mr. wiener” and “Brett” and a few others where Kai could have stepped in but he’s on me about this within minutes. I can only presume he’s sore about my scolding of the way he bumbled the “Fraser Stewart” thang.
Anyway, today I have reminded myself that even though I will never be perfect is not an excuse not to try to improve.

          • I can understand how a handful of people individually criticizing you can feel on the receiving end like they’re knowingly ganging up on you in a collective assault, but it’s worthwhile advice to not take things too personally on the Internet.

Anyway, I’m a big supporter of quality music, so I can understand your frustration that disposable pop music is getting top-billing chinaSMACK publicity. But if you scroll to the very top of this page, and look right above the title of this page, you’ll see that the header is “Chinese Pop Songs”. Maybe you’d like to be exposed to better-quality Chinese pop music (like Teresa Teng, perhaps? Maybe Faye Wong? I don’t know your personal taste in music), but to be honest, I’ve heard tons of “highly-acclaimed” Chinese pop music, and most of it, in my subjective opinion, isn’t all that better than this. ChthoniC is a major anomaly in the Chinese music scene, and the music chinaSMACK’s been featuring is about as good as it gets, as far as Chinese music is concerned.

I’m linking to a video of one of my favorite Chinese (Taiwanese) songs. Maybe it’ll be something you like.

          • Thanks Matt, I have not been able to view the link yet since my VPN is tempermental. I used to work with a girl singer and we actually played a few Wong Faye and Yan-zi covers and I have a few guilty pleasures such as Elva, FIR and Siqin Gerilie though I would deny it if any of my “homeys” found out. I have yet to hear a male singer that I can stand. I think Jay Chou is absolute shit and slapping Edison’s snotty face (forehand and backhand) is somewhere on my bucket list. But mostly I listen to Sevendust, One Way Mirror and Mnemic especially when I’m lifting weights. It’s kind of hard to get fired up for a 1-rep max listening to Vicky’s 我是女生. I happen to like alot of international music. It doesn’t matter if I don’t understand the lyrics, if it sounds good, it’s good. I played a couple of years in a Brazilian band that is still popular even if they’re friggin dinosaurs (Like…..Brazilian Rolling Stones) and all the songs were in Portuguese. I’m just saying this because I believe it is not unthinkable for China to produce some world-class musicians(besides classical, I mean) but I’ve yet to hear anything that’s really great.

    • Setesh

we are probably the same age

  • Super Bunny

without this mv this song is typical spit song.
i like her because her songs are very easy to sing.no need any skill, typical spit songs.
i also like some young singers from super girls,i like lolita songs a lot.
i also like old songs, something classic will never change.

    • Jennster

she has a weak voice though, could be because of her height or petiteness. lol
her songs are easy to sing, but she’s not the type id put songs in my ipod.

  • It took 7 “composers” to come up with this pathetic shit? 7? Are you fucking kidding me?
    7?

    • Setesh

some just require creative aid I suppose while some can do it with their eyes close. I think maybe Rensi can post the popular song and you can be part of the team and post the non-mainstream song. I dont know any non-mainstream China Chinese singer, it would be interesting if cSmack cover both. I understand the purpose of Rensi post and its great I usualy look at the lyric and try to copy the symbol. Anyway this is just an idea, this way we can see the popular mainstream side and the non-mainstream side (usually they are talented but people just dont understand it because its deviant than the norm, like Marilyn Manson)

      • Sorry Fire, if I were to write any posts for this section (of modern Chinese music) it would be short-lived as the only Chinese band I ever heard that is worth a shit would be Cold Fairyland. Whiskersthecat showed me a metal band from Taiwan that kicked ass but I can’t find the link. BTW…there’s an e-mail address on my avatar…if you contact me I can send you a clip from my company’s movie. I can’t upload to any public sites for obvious reasons.

        • Setesh

immediately sir, have you received it?

          • No…..but I received your comment asking if I received it :) Try again

          • Setesh

I sent again, it must be in junk mail or spam because hotmail have this filter setting

          • Received and sent.(was in the junk folder, sorry) Btw…you don’t have to call me “sir”. Makes me feels so old……..like …..26!

        • I’m assuming that Taiwanese metal band was ChthoniC.

          • Setesh

ChthoniC? sure ill check them out

          • Setesh

well, that metal asian chick is a refreshing sight. I almost drool. Almost.

    • Slob

I do like the Cantonese band Beyond. 80’s-90’s rock I believe. The song about Nelson Mandela is my favourite.

      • They’re ok, I guess. If you want to hear a good Asian girl that can play kickass guitar (and I mean she can seriously shred with the best) check out a little Indonesian girl called Prisa. You can find some vids on Youku but I really need to take a whizz so you’ll have to search Baidu yourse…………

  • elizabeth

She’s beautiful before, not after, plastic surgery. Before, she stood out naturally unique. Now, she’s just one of those many manufactured barbie dolls with silicon implants. Stephanie Sun’s much better artistically and more pleasant to look at, although I am a fan of neither.

  • linette lee

I don’t find chinese song a good source of teaching material. The words are too hard and some don’t make sense. It may be good for advance learners. For beginners it’s better to just watch chinese drama with english subtitles. That will improve your chinese. Those are everyday spoken chinese words.

  • linette lee

This song and the whole MV has a lady gaga feel to it.

    • asfd

you should watch the newer Dr Jolin and Fantasy MVs…..lol

  • Roihu

Wow. So much Jolin hate. You haters wanna give me suggestions for good Mandarin songs (Cantonese and Hokkien accepted, even though I will never understand them)?

  • Hadoren

Are you sure this is a popular Chinese song? On Youku there are only 69,124 views. In fact, that’s the most views any of the songs posted here which I’ve looked at has ever gotten on Youku.

It seems to me that a lot of your songs are from Taiwanese or independent/”alternative” bands. I don’t know; maybe Chinese people just don’t have as much interest in looking at music videos as Westerners.

But if I had a sight “AmericaSmack” and I posted a music video of a band that had only 69,124 views on Youtube, that would definitely not be representative of American music. How come we never see artists that get more than, say, one million views on Youku?
