Putin holds back tears announcing election victory
March 5th, Russian Federation Central Election Commission Chariman Vladimir E. Churov, in accordance with preliminary results, announced that the “United Russia” party presidential candidate Vladimir Putin has been elected the new president. Over 100,000 Putin supporters gathered at Moscow’s Manezh Square next to the Kremlin to celebrate the general election victory. Putin and Dmitry Medvedev attended and gave speeches. Appearing with Putin, current Russian President Medvedev expressed that this victory is what Russia needs. Medvedev said: “If our country is to modernize, become stronger, and remain independent, it needs this victory. We will not give this victory to anyone else! We will not!”

March 4th night, local time, while commenting on the election voting process and preliminary results, Russian presidential candidate and Russian Communist Party Chairman Gennady Zyuganov said to reporters: “I am unable to recognize the election as honest, nor do I recognize its fairness, much less recognize the election as having been conducted properly.”
