         But somehow, this evolved into a traditional annual laughing stock for some (vast majority actually) people, and so it achieved the legendary level of being “so bad it’s good”.

         Yeah, from what I heard by some other people; their families were just waiting for this fucking gala to be aired, so they could just laught the fuck out of that shit while making dumplings, so that they may also feel hipster like Hanhan and Liu Xiaobo for some days in the year, instead of shouting TGV5!!!1111 the entire time the other month around…

         But somehow the mountain chinks didnt think so, since I doubt that they are progressive enough to understand the concept of “being hipster”, and instead took it as fat chance to Fight Da Powah. Welp, at least they know that concept good enough…

His overall position really boils down to wanting Chinese people to be more assertive about their own interests and not let others bully them.    This year’s gala kinda sucked. They revamped the stage with moving blocks, which was impressive. But the content itself was…eh. Yang Liping’s peacock dance was nice (how is this woman 53?!). The Dragon-Phoenix dance was nice. And that’s about it.

   Oh, and where were all the token minorities this year? All the minorities that appeared on the show seemed to be there by their own merit. That’s just not acceptable. More of this, please, CCTV:

   At least there was less, and not so obvious, propaganda this year. It wasn’t so sickening or laughable to watch. However, many of the performances were. The magic tricks were ‘obvious,’ even to a non-trained eye. The comedy sketches were re-writes of old material, not that funny, and went on for far too long.

   The biggest let-down of the evening was Wang Fei’s performance that, although live, unlike other singers who mimed, was far below par. I am a bit of a Wang Fei fan, but she sang out of tune and looked really awkward and uncomfortable.

    To me it was all a haze, I remember waking for a moment to see guys in white coats all pointing in the same direction, then slumping into sleep again. I woke again momentarily to see a guy with vertically combed hair smiling excessively, then I must have passed out.

    I still have bad dreams – I think I may have been abducted by extra-terrestrials (or perhaps I was watching the military’s New Year Gala)

      i saw a ufo one time when i was with my friends back in high school. we ran away from whatever it was.
