Jan. 22nd, 2012, 11:50 AM. Tielu Village, Qixingjiezhen, Lianyuan City, Hunan Province. As the 12 members of Liao Fangmei’s family were eating their annual reunion dinner for Chinese New Year, Liao Fangmei’s younger cousin Liao Zishe suddenly burst into Liao Fangmei’s house and detonated an explosive. The explosion immediately killed Liao Fangmei, her husband, and the suicide bomber Liao Zishe. The 10 other family members sustained severe injuries. The injured were then rapidly moved to Luodi Prefecture Hospital for rescue care. Among the injured were Liao Fangmei’s child (only 2 months old and unnamed) who passed away at Hongyuan hospital after failed rescue attempts. At 3:00pm, Liao Fangemei’s oldest son, Liao Chaoyang, also passed away from severe blood loss at the Luodi Central Hospital after several failed attempts at resuscitation. The other 8 survivors are in stable condition.

Understanding the event’s great importance, leaders of the Luodi and Lianyuan City governments and committees implemented an emergency action plan immediately after the incident occurred. Luodi City Committee member and Judicial Committee Secretary Wang Xionggan directed the on-scene investigation and gave special orders to not spare any cost while saving and treating the wounded. Wang was also spearheaded the painstaking work of managing the aftermath of the explosion. Leaders of related departments in Luodi and Lianyuan city arrived at the scene closely thereafter to direct and organize the clean up process.

Presently, the crime scene is stable and under control. The Public Safety Department has already begun a comprehensive investigation of the incident. Officials in Qixingjiezhen, Liaoyuan City are actively coordinating with related medical units to give full medical and rescue treatment to the injured, clean up, and stabilize the situation.

Ultimately became a suicide bomber…..

One of the main reasons has got to be that this guy was bullied, and it was bottled up for a long time without justice, but in any case this isn’t worth taking your life for it.

  1. Evil fucker. Dying is too good for him.

  2. I’ll sit on the remains of the sofa I suppose.

  3. Holy fucking shit, this is awful news D:

  4. We definitely need more background for this. Why would anyone do anything this fucked up is beyond me.

    • Well they do say, chinese new year is the time of year you’re most likely to be murdered by a member of your family….Even so in this case he wasn’t invited to the feast and was acting on a long held grudge, I could make a tasteless coment about a new years fireworks display, but this just sucks, kinda like busting in on someone’s Christmas dinner and blowing up the whole family, I hate this shite.

      • Yeah that happened this past christmas in Texas, didnt you hear that story? Guy walked in to his families apartment dressed as santa claus and then shot his family to death one by one then shot himself. Shits so fucked up you gotta laugh

Tasteless fireworks jokes are completely appropriate for this story ! (same goes for the first poster in this thread claiming the charred remains of the sofa!)

      • Also the time you’re most likely to commit suicide, according to Durkheim. Someone should have seen this coming.

      • Yeah but this is beyond reason. This kind of fucked up fervor is usually seen only in religious nutjobs.

    • Hunanese are passionate people.

      • I gotta say; you’re right.

Hunan people are amongs those who I would give a rifle plus bayonet and point to the direction of the americunts and waste no thoughts about the concequences anymore.

what a far cry compared to the feminine and scheming guangdongren who would rather pay some migrant worker from yunnan to strap a nail-bomb to his body and blow himself up in the house of one of his gold-digging cousins as revenge for out-jewing him last year.

  5. A terrible tragedy, my thoughts go out to all the friends and family of the victims.
I hope we can get more light shed on this issue and that lessons are learned.

  6. Is this what the CIA call Blowback?

  7. You are responsible for your own behaviour, so all this can teach you is that you should not do the same thing.

    • ????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

  8. I’ve been passive on commenting for the last month or more, but I had to when I read this article.

    1. Blow up the entire family?
    2. What kind of country bumpkin dumbfuck in Hunan knows how to make a bomb with shrapnel and all?
    3. Then, how does he find the materials to do so, and then actually carry it out?

Well, I guess he chose 1 of his 2 options. At least the local kindergarden is safe.

    • Yeah, how do these guys know how to make bombs?

      • So…

Let’s just wait for the copycat bombings.

        Sigh…

It’s kindergardens and jumping off the company roof all over again no doubt.

        Lemmings off a cliff….

    • yeaaah. I also went “Wtf? How the hell did he know how to even make a bomb?” when I first saw this.

    • >”2. What kind of country bumpkin dumbfuck in Hunan knows how to make a bomb with shrapnel and all?”

      erm.

back then in WWII, while not being occupated by the japs, Hunan people knew VERY well how to build stuff to blow shit up.

      • My friends at school used to make fertiliser bombs and blow them up on the beach. Waking up to the sound of TNT-like fireworks this morning, I knew the answer to this one though.

Take about fifty firework sticks, strap that around you. A few bottles of baijiu to get the fire going, and it looks like he stuck some shrapnel in there too. Gnarly!!!

        • Sounds like fun.

Back then when we were bored and our superiors didnt gave a shit, we piled some leftover propellant rings of the 120mm mortars into bags, built a fuse and threw them while being lit into a lake in a retarded attempt to go bomb-fishing.

Didnt do too well, as the bags endured no pressure at all and didnt really sank that far. But still fun, if retarded anyway.

QUALITY pastime. Only in my Bund…

          • Funny for a guy who hates Americans so much you seem to enjoy a typical American redneck pass time, fishing with explosives. You guys have more in common than you think.

    • this just reminds me of fight club, where tyler durden was telling everyone how easy is to make a bomb with household items…

    • Most country people need to know how to make explosives, for example if there is a rock or stump in your field, it’s often damn near impossible to dig out.
Out on the farm, the procedure is simple, dig a hole next to the stump, put in a can of Ammonium Nitrate (agricultural nitrogen fixer), pour in a small amount of diesel fuel (what all tractors run on), shoot can with .22 rifle.

      So basically, fear the farmer.

    • Yeah, and I guess Timothy McVeigh, a dumbfuck hick who murdered lots more people with relatively crude bombs made out of fertilizer, was a rocket scientist to have done something as complex and thought-intensive as making a bomb. When I was 13, I had the Army Improvised Munitions Handbook, which taught you how to make landmines and other devices of death from common household items. Most fertilizers contain ammonium nitrate, which can be used along with a fuel source to create ANFO, Ammonium Nitrate Fuel Oxidizer. I highly doubt that there is a shortage of fertilizer in Hunan.

So that covers points 2 and 3 of your statement.

      As for 1.

People kill their whole family all the time in countries other than China. I my home state of Texas for example, a whole family was murdered on Christmas. And also, it wasn’t his family to begin with. It was his cousin’s family. Anyways, it’s easy to read all these stories and think that China is a fucked up place. On any given day there is limited space for news and there are 1.3 billion people in China, which multiplies the chance that something fucked up will happen every day. It’s just probability. If a certain percentage of human beings are always going to be fucked-up scumbags, then you shouldn’t be surprised by the number of horror stories coming out of a nation as large as China.

  9. Terrible news, that suicide bomber deserves to survive and receive punishment!!!

  10. An official said ….. “Presently, the crime scene is stable and under control.”

There may well be two crime scenes… One is the bomb crime scene, a family’s home.

The other may well be an office, I would guess either business or government, where something, I would guess thieving or oppression of some kind, which caused/led to/triggered the anger and despair which caused/led to/triggered the bombing, was committed.

The bombing is evidence of a prior oppressive act and a crime. Someone interested in a full understanding of what happened would look closely at the full course of events, not simply the brutal ending.

  11. What a dick. In every photograph of a group of Chinese people here’s always an old guy dressed in black standing with his hands in his pockets looking like he feels a bit out of place. I just spotted him.

The third picture of the broken glass is rather pretty.

    • If we screened humans for the potentiality of being evil, then more than half the people who come here would be in (jail). I believe humans are innately evil and that all are capable of monstruous crimes. It takes a certain amount of self consciousness and enlightment to become a person who brings good to the world and genuinely wish to bring a good feeling and spirit to others.

  12. Some people are no good and deserve to die – but why kill others? I think people who do things like this are mentally unfit for living with other people. Too bad we cannot make a test to find out who these people are before it’s too late. Then we could send them to treatment (jail) and we could all feel better. haha

  13. Where did he got the bomb from?

  14. Over and above the event, which is tragic on way too many levels, I have to ask:

How the hell did this guy get the explosives to do this deed?

Figure there is enough folks waking up in cold sweat in bedrooms of power in Beijing of craziness like this in the Western Province. However, more closer to home – in a more of a ‘family annilator’ way? Not good.

  15. Sometimes I want to kill myself when I’m eating Chinese food in a house with no heating in the middle of the winter.

  16. Wins the land dispute via…. Blowing family and self up? Genius.

  17. Look.. we don’t know the back story. The family could of been bullying him all these years. Maybe he was entitled to some of that land but the family just outed him, leaving him with nothing…

I’m not saying what he did was right… I mean, he could of just lid the fuse and threw the bomb inside and enjoy the fruits of his labor instead of blowing himself up! :D

  18. I can’t believe some of the ignorant statements I’m reading! This low-life blows up himself, his intended victims, and women and CHILDREN, and some here are defending his actions as justifiable revenge??!! How is a 2 month old child, guilty for the sins of it’s parents??!! This guy was a coward in the worst sense!!!! He didn’t settle it between the person he had the disagreement with(like a man), he killed EVERYONE!!!! I saw this in Iraq/Afghanistan too. Instead of shooting at us(American soldiers), the Taliban killed everyone, and called it “God’s Will”. Well, I’m here to tell you that anyone can be pushed too far, but only cowards and psychopaths target innocents, along with the lawful combatants.

    • I agree,
Don’t justify the actions of these low life scum suicide bombers,
killing and maiming children and innocents is just basically cowardly.

citing how poor it is in the countryside blah blah. If this is the case the whole countryside would blow up!
I do think the Govt. should pull its finger out of its ass and let the money follow and the local officials be accountable on decision making.

    • If the bomber figured he was justified, is it so surprising that some people on the internet could also see support for his situation?

Not everyone values that every individual (incl. children) has a personal right to life. It was only a bit over a hundred years ago that entire Chinese families and relatives were executed for posing a threat the Throne. Tradition sees Chinese families as a unit, not individuals, and such revenge stories are not uncommon, especially in the countryside.

Not to start an tangential subject, but I wonder if your argument also applies to American drone or helicopter strikes? Are the people who put forth the orders and those who carried them out also cowards and psychopaths?

      • I’ll answer that, because it is a question often asked by people who’ve never heard a crack of a round over their head, or seen a street FULL of dead Iraq innocents, with not ONE US casualty! Most soldiers know, that when they are down-range, THEY are legitimate targets. We have Rules of Engagement(ROE) as opposed to the Taliban and Al Queda, who have NONE! Some guy that is flying a drone, has SO may rules and conditions, before he is allowed to drop live ordinance. Are innocents killed?! Of course! But we don’t TARGET non-combatants, unlike the “other” guys. Now are you going to tell me that if we saw Osama Bin Laden in a house, and the only way to reach him would be a JDAM, is it worth killing his family? I’d say that if his family was harmed taking Bin Laden out, THAT danger he brought on, by killing 3,000 non-combatants in NYC on 9-11!
So, in closing, you’ll always here about US soldiers, that screwed up, prayed and sprayed, and violated the rules of warfare, but you’ll almost NEVER hear about the victims (and I’ve seen plenty of mortally wounded Afghan kids!) of the Taliban who blow their OWN up with IED’s. If they kill their own, it’s “Inshallah”, if we do it accidentally, it’s “the white infidel!”. It’s really a shame you made a comparison between the two, but I suspect your used to sleeping warm and comfortable in your own bed, while others ensure your freedom. imho

        • And you can believe that the American government and its military has an interest in preserving the freedom of American citizens, if wrapping yourself in the flag helps you sleep at all. Either way, I was asking a question and not making insinuations. Your trigger-happy defensiveness, however, speaks rounds on its own.

For every point you make, there are lines and lines of counter-arguments, a calling into question of the larger picture, and an endless circle of blame. Unfortunately, it seems some Americans never hesitate to make every situation about themselves. Go stuff your rules of engagement further in your ears so you can find some self-justified peace.

i.e. If Bin Laden put his family in danger by committing acts of violence against the US, then who is to say the same reasoning does not apply for this poor family and the guy who finally revenged himself on them? I’m ignoring the fact that this is an apples/oranges comparison because I love to hear that patriotic noise coming back up after a wild night.

          • @Kong. NO. You WERE “insinuating”. You sound like you’re quite educated, yet what you actually “know”, is what you’ve derived from a textbook. This murder was analogous to a soldier, walking in to the room of a combatant, and spraying everyone(including children) with bullets, knowingly. So, how you can condone this nutcase blowing himself and everyone else up in a room, because someone “may” have deserved it, is beyond me. Then, when you compare it to what the US is doing, I have to step in and tell you what it’s really like on the ground, as an American soldier. Here’s what I recommend: Find someone in the People’s Army, who’s actually fought in combat(maybe way back when THEY died alongside American soldiers fighting the Japanese, and ask them about the “fog of war”. (or, you can just read another book:)

  19. I think the root cause for many such tragedies in China especially rural area is caused by lack of legal knowledge and support, and since there’s no money to be made there it’s hard to change the situation

  20. the guy must of been sniffing too much Chinese milk powder
