  • Well these never really get much attention, but how can we change that? Everyone likes music, after all. What’s everyone’s current favorite band or song?

I’m a huge fan of the indie folk group “Lord Huron” right now. I’ve been listening to them non-stop for the past month.

    • mr.wiener

      Michał Lorenc’s Taniec Eleny

      • Good choice. It almost sounds…like a fusion of…maybe if you mixed an Mid-Eastern sound with one of the traditional Native American inspired songs from, say, Last of the Mohicans.

        • mr.wiener

It does make me want to kill people with a hatchet [in a happy way of course]

          • I’m a huge fan of classical movie scores. Hans Zimmer is my favorite, particularly the track “Light” (well, the whole OST is amazing) from The Thin Red Line. It’s great. Vestard Shimkus has a fantastic piano cover of it on Youtube.

This song makes me imagine floating down a lazy river that’s completely covered by an old forest canopy, on a raft.

          • Germandude

Hans Zimmer is a music god. His songs for The Thin Red Line and The Last Samurai are the best songtracks and albums for movies ever created. Check “Best of Hans Zimmer compilation” on youtube and there are a couple 1+ hours of Hans Zimmer soundtracks in one song. Put that on loud and close your eyes. No drugs needed.

          • Alexandre Dresplat is another one.
The song “River” on the Tree of Life OST…never gets old

          • Fancypants

That’s actually by Bedrich Smetana: The Moldau River. It’s just part of the soundtrack.

          • Oh nice, I like this one, too. I was talking about this track, though: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Qh_0L30vhk

          • Fancypants

            Indeed–gorgeous.

          • mr.wiener

Would Apocalyptica be on your play list, Oh Rammstein fan?

          • Germandude

Nope. I listen to pretty much everything. The only stuff I really got into for some time was punk (like 15 years ago), then techno and now I am listening to whatever music is played on the radio (streaming european channels).
The only music I come back to regularly is classical music. Especially in winter.

    • The Real L

Do you know any Chinese “indie folk groups”?

      • Nope, unfortunately I don’t.

      • Thanks for the lyrics, great way to practice Chinese for me.

  • 剑胆琴心

i like her a lot and good at singing her songs.
she has that perfect silk voice but no high key.she is good at songs for city stylish little women.her songs always very stylish.
but not this one, first the lyc not well written.should use more buddist language not so direct.and she has no breaking high voice…hope she wont go too far.faye wang is good at this kinda songs, because her voice always shaking.but also like dying.

  • Johnston

Quite a pleasant surprise to see this. Totally fell in love with her when I lived in China and bought most of her albums. Still prefer her earlier work but this is good.

  • vonskippy

Did she stub her toe, or does she mean to dance like that?

  • linette lee

Sandy 林憶蓮 she has been around for a very very long time just like Jacky cheung. Like my father said, hk used to have really good talented composers and singers. Now Hk music and film industry is just WTF????

I like some of her old songs.

    • 剑胆琴心

there are some new hk singers also quite good.
like 王菀之 ,方皓玟…songs like 哥歌,won’t you stand …are all quite stylish.
i tried to learn to sing them but i can not speak guang dong hua, hahaha!
songs of hk singers is quite different written from mainland and tw, hk has no farmer culture. but at the same time, maybe because keeping on use old chinese characters,so their songs sometimes have deeper old philosophy.

i like songs like 女儿 very much…

      • linette lee

I still like 古巨基 and 李克勤. I like them because they sing really well live. Sounds even better than cds.

        • 剑胆琴心

i notice that i update very fast.
even my friends know this, i am a trendy girl, hahahaha!
i do not stick to old singers much…

  • The Real L

What are some other good Chinese groups out there?

  • Musicman

She samples the melody from Fatboy slim’s ” Right here, Right now” in the first part of the song. wonder how much of an influence western music has on her own
