Music Video:

Composer: Dou Peng
Lyrics: Li Qiang
Singer: Faye Wong/Wang Fei

Lyrics (Original Chinese, Pinyin Romanization, and English Translation):

他不羁的脸,像天色将晚。
tā bù jī de liǎn, xiàng tiān sè jiāng wǎn
His unruly face, is like the sky at dusk.

tā xǐ guò de fà, xiàng xīn zhōng huǒ yàn
Her washed hair, is like the flame in one’s heart.

duǎn zàn de kuáng huān, yǐ wéi yì shēng mián yán
The momentary carnival, mistaken for forever.

màn cháng de gào bié, shì qīng chūn shèng yàn
The lengthy farewell, the feast of youth.

wǒ dōng yè de shǒu, xiàng gǔn tàng de shì yán
My hand in the winter night, like a searing promise.

nǐ shǎn shuò de yǎn, xiàng cuì ruò de xìn niàn.
Your flickering eyes, like the frail conviction.

tān liàn de suì yuè, bèi wú qíng cháng huán
The years clung to, ruthlessly paid back.

jiāo zòng de xīn xìng, yǐ yān xiāo yún sàn
The arrogant and self-indulgent temperament, vanished into thin air.

fēng le, lèi le, tòng le
Wild, tired, ached

rén jiān xǐ jù
The human comedy

xiào le, jiào le, zhǒu le
Laughed, screamed, gone

qīng chūn lí qí
Youth [is] curious

liáng chén měi jǐng nài hé tiān
Bright the morn, lovely the scene,

wèi shuí xīn kǔ wèi shuí tián
For whom to toil? For whom to be sweet?

zhè nián huá qīng sè shì qù
The years of youth are gone,

què bié yǒu dòng tiān
yet were charming and beautiful.

liáng chén měi jǐng nài hé tiān,
Bright the morn, lovely the scene,

wèi shuí xīn kǔ wèi shuí tián.
For whom to toil? For whom to be sweet?

zhè nián huá qīng sè shì qù
The years of youth are gone,

míng bái le shí jiān
and we understood the nature of time.

fēng le, lèi le, tòng le
Wild, tired, ached

rén jiān xǐ jù
The human comedy

xiào le, jiào le, zǒu le
Laughed, screamed, gone

qīng chūn lí qí

lol not quite ‘struts & frets his hour upon the stage and is heard no more’ but still fairly depressing if not nihilistic

gee chinese songs aren’t quite as bad looking @ lyrics rather than having to listen to faye wong, vivian, coco, ah mei, etc.sing them

    • Mighty

Imagine having to listen to people sing those in karaoke lounges.

      • James

I had to many times in ktv’s, yi er san

        • Mighty

It’s 10 times worse when confined in a KTV room.

          • James

it depends on who’s paying for the johnny walker, sometimes it’s only 5 times worse.

          • Mighty

LOL! True. And if the girls are hot and entertaining I’m oblivion to all that crappy singing.

  • Atlas

I liked Faye Wong’s Final Fantasy 8 song.

  • ophiolater

Someone is dying again, always this old ass singing as if she is dying.

    • Mighty

Too bad it’s not her swan song.

    • Azzurra

Certainly doesn’t make the most positive and inspirational music, but better than most mandopop.

      • Mighty

She does make an amazing version of the Cranberries.

        • ophiolater

She is much worse than Cranberries, she has no much skill at high key.
She copied many singers, Cranberries , Sophie Zelmani…And she began to sing early, at that time China had no many singers for stylish pop music. No any pop star can be a pop queen just by singing in low and weak voice. She got the chance by pretending cool with that looks all the time.

          • Azzurra

I would disagree that Faye Wong isn’t technically skilled. She has a naturally small and candied voice, true – started out imitating Theresa Teng (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faye_Wong_discography: see teenage albums). However the influence from and training in western music gave her a technical edge later. She increased her range in the lower registers and created her own sound to rock and more metal music. When she was at her best she’s able to pull off Bohemian Rhapsody live (though the absolute merit of that cover is a different story).

          • ophiolater

Copier and faker and drug addicted.
Her ugly kids and poor marriage are the best reward for her.

          • Azzurra

            K……
            Serious case of Faye-hate huh?

          • ophiolater

            Serious old ass-kisser!
Maybe she needs more money from people like you for drug and feed her husband and kids.Go on!

          • TeresaT

Who is the best singer in your mind then? Xu Song? Xu Liang? Justin Bieber?
If you don’t know how to listen pop music, please just shut up.

          • Stormist

if you don’t know what “language sense” is, please don’t criticize her rashly.

  • Cleo

it’s really difficult i guess to pull off her style of singing – but I don’t really like it – however, I have to give her credit for it.

I wouldn’t say that growing up outside China is BETTER than being Chinese but I acknowledge that the China Chinese got shortchanged (we on the outside lose out in other ways but no one would trade that cultural loss for what the Mainlanders lost).

my youth was horrific emotionally enough without even being the greatest of tragedies – I have none of this nihilistic inconsolableness. The world is much uglier than losing one’s youth and the most enjoyable thing in the world is to ultimately destroy goblins even if you don’t live long enough to see it personally. That’s close to happiness.

    • Boris

If you want to give anyone credit, give it to Liz Fraser. Still, I love Faye’s voice. A range that’s nigh on impossible for most.

    • mr.wiener

Tell me more about your demons.

    • James

inconsolableness, the scrabble force is strong with this one

  • Sam

    Thanks Rensi, love your work!

  • PixelPulse

The singing is nice but it sounds a bit lazy to sing like this through the whole song, could have used some high pitched and strong pitched vocals.

  • YourSupremeCommander

Wong Faye Hong > Faye Wong

    • Mighty

Wong Faye Hong > Wong Faye
