Many tourists who came especially to see the Giant Rubber Ducky say the smog has made it hard to see the Giant Rubber Ducky clearly. 晕 Today, Beijing’s smoggy weather will continue to get worse as well as persist until the end of the long holiday. Everyone should avoid going outdoors, and the elderly, children, and other sensitive groups should probably remain indoors as much as possible. http://t.cn/zRLJIEw”

Chinese Internet Memes Introduced: Farthest Right

神最右

[shén zuì yòu]
noun.
Literally “legendary farthest right”, this Chinese internet meme refers to a creative Weibo comment that has been repeatedly forwarded/reshared. Given the way Sina Weibo functions, this results in a long string of citations/references to the previous accounts who forwarded/reshared the original post, which is naturally on the “farthest right”, thereby tracing its history.

Globalization of Internet Memes and Humor: Middle Eastern “Local Tyrants”

The everyday lives of Dubai’s local tyrants. Shock

[Note: “Local tyrant” comes from 土豪金 [tǔ háo jīn] “local tyrant gold”, a recent Chinese internet meme used to describe the new gold-colored iPhone 5S. It can be understood alternatively as “the gold of a local tyrant” and is a humorous stereotyping of the people who would buy such a color iPhone, their behavior, and their characters suggesting a sort of ostentation.]

The toilet one, is the only reason I don’t and never will invite a Chinese in my house.
note: I know not all of em do that.

    • ‘ or fuck=off

Invite? Normally, people just drops by uninvited! Unless you’re a loner and knows nobody. You must know that some chinese friends will piss all over the toilet while loudly coughing up hairballs and smoke a couple of cigs that will be left on the floor for no reason at all. Be happy the cigs aren’t put on on something that will melt…. Then better hope it’s not a girl or a man doing a number two, because then they’ll climb up and surf the toilet seat, which of course will break it….

      • I’m assuming he doesn’t live in China, considering he owns a house.

      • Warlock

Some people are hermits and are quite happy with that. I look none too cheerful and don’t smile much when outside, so perhaps people avoid knocking on my door, and I prefer it that way. Seems you need to learn more.

      • Thor

“coughing up hairballs” = are you talking about cats ? (those who have long hair)

    • Ami

That is a sign in the UAE (not china) telling people not to climb up on the toilet but sit on it.
Its a cultural thing, a lot of the uneducated immigrant workers come from poor rural villages and are used to squating in over holes and don’t know how to use a toilet.

Do chinese people do that too? I imagine its also the village immigrant people who do that then.

      • Wololoo

Even in Beijings universities there are those whole toilets, especially when there are not so much foreigners in that department.

      • MrC

Rural girl here the other month she stood for a piss in my bog.
        Funny.

        I couldn’t care less.

Doesn’t change the fact there are people playing tennis on it.

Scotland’s got an astronomical renewable potential in wind, tidal and wave power, most of that concentrated in the Highlands and Islands. Teuchters are going to be riding round in Veyrons when the oil runs out.

Scotland, particularly Speyside and Islay, makes whisky. Ireland, and I think the US, produces whiskey.

          • Warlock

  • Middle_Kingdum

Oh . . Ha ha ha!! The hilarious Chinese humour always makes me laugh with so much hilarity!

Dubai is really poorly planned. The city is literally just thrown together with HUGE random empty lots scattered among the even huger buildings. Public transportation (other than taxis) is almost impossible because of how awkward the lay out. Walking about is incredibly difficult not only because of the crazy heat but because of how everything is spaced out. Abu Dhabi is slightly better.
I come from a city in the American south and even I think Dubai’s urban sprawl is ridiculous.
Other than that: I feel like its a safe city and nice for a vacation. Its expensive though. And its “culture” is really lost and confused if it really exists at all.

    • Warlock

As are many other cities in other countries. At least Dubai has the metro though, and as you say it is safe. Expensive, true, and you are right it is hard to find the culture there.
