Chinese Woman Crushes Husband and Her Own Head While Parking

The scene of the accident.

From QQ:

Wife Backing Up Car Hits and Kills Husband, Her Own Head Crushed as She Had Stuck it Out the Window

[...]

A happy family, shattered in the blink of an eye, leaving behind only an older daughter who had just finished her high school entrance exams and whose grades aren’t bad, as well as a 6-year-old younger daughter who barely understands the meaning of the word “tragedy”.

[...]

This tragedy happened two nights ago around 8;30pm, in the underground parking garage of Ningbo Fenghua Yangguang Mingdu Community.

[...]

The accident happened at night at about 8:35 pm.

At that time, [the driver of this] Lexus wanted to park it into the garage, while another community resident Ms. Dong was also parking her car at a nearby parking space.

Ms. Dong says she heard a “boom” at the time, felt something was not right, and that something bad must’ve happened. By the time she had parked her car and rushed over, she found another resident already assisting the victims: ”At the time, the man was stuck between the Lexus and the wall. He didn’t appear to be bleeding much on his body. And in the driver’s seat was a woman, whose head was stuck between the car door and the garage pillar, with lots of blood.”

The car had them pinned tight, and Ms. Dong hurried out to call the community security guards and other residents for help, then dialed 119 [fire department], 110 [police department], and 120 [emergency medical services].

A lot of people rushed over and had to push the car forward a little before the pinned female driver fell down. At the time, she was still breathing. However, the man who was pinned by the car had already stopped breathing by the time he was rescued.

This accident spread around the community very quickly, and everyone was hoping the woman would make it. Unfortunately, the news that very quickly came from the hospital was still bad news.

[...]

According to the community residents, this is how the tragedy happened:

The husband himself got out of the car to guide her [in backing up], walked to the rear end of the car, and suddenly, with a roar of the throttle, the Lexus reversed at high speed, and pinned the husband who was standing between the rear door of the car and the garage wall as he gave a loud cry.

Hearing her husband’s scream, the wife at the steering wheel promptly opened the car door, stuck her body out to see [what happened], and saw her husband pinned there. Panicking, she planned to drive the car forward, but perhaps because of of being too panicked, the car’s transmission gear lever was still in reverse, not forward.

When the gas pedal was finally pressed, it ended the lives of the two–Instead of moving forward, the car continued to back up. The husband was crushed even tighter, while the wife’s head which she had stuck out of the car was also caught between the car door and the garage wall…

And during that time, their 6-year-old younger daughter was right in the car.

腾讯重庆市网友 星期九:

This incident shows that we must be strict and demanding beginning when people first learn how to drive, otherwise even with your driver’s license, bad things will happen sooner or later. If you are “lucky”, it’ll only be small scratches, but if you are “unlucky”, people will get either injured or killed!

腾讯网友 疯子:

So tragic! May the deceased rest in peace!

腾讯网友 男爵儿:

The driving skills of most new drivers don’t pass requirements! Especially women. I hope the learning process at driving schools can be more strict, so that whoever gets a driver’s license has mastered all courses. So that shocking traffic accidents will happen less!

腾讯网友 小桥流水:

I’m currently learning how to drive at a driving school. I used to complain about the [driving test] being made harder this year. But after I seeing their tragedy, I raise both hands up in support [of the change]. After all, this is about life and death!

腾讯网友 独步山林:

Seeing this news, I can only sigh. Even if you didn’t believe in fate, you’d believe it now. It indeed is “There’s no suffering you can’t endure, but there is happiness you can’t enjoy.” Such a tragedy! May the deceased rest in peace.

Comments from Sina:

手机用户 [江西南昌]:

Many women drivers are no different than murderers!

手机用户 [韩国Seoul-t'ukpyolsi]:

The last place you wanna be when someone’s backing up a car is at the rear end!! He’s not the first one who was has been crushed to death. Everyone should be beware.

yingyaojun [上海]:

With this kind of tragedy, what’s important is to take it as a warning, as opposed to simply calling her a SB as if one’s own driving skills are superior.

手机用户 [山东济南]:

Fallen from heaven to hell in a blink of an eye. Only those who have gone through this know how it feels. The older daughter must learn how to be strong.

用户Q1458265024 [福建泉州]:

A tragedy, so heart-aching. An otherwise happy family now separated by life and death like this. The poorest ones are the girls.

Comments from iFeng (1 & 2):

凤凰网山东省网友 原子弹在日本盛开:

Turns out buying a Japanese car will indeed result in your whole family dying!!!

凤凰网上海市网友 zimmer:

Putting aside whether the design of the garage is reasonable or not, just how these two got their driver’s licenses is questionable!

凤凰网广东省广州市网友 yueyezhe:

The facts proves that one really mustn’t drive a Japanese car. The poor pair of daughters, to be without parents from here on out. Stay away from Japanese products!

凤凰网江西省吉安市网友 郑某人:

The consequences of marrying a stupid wife are very serious.

凤凰网浙江省宁波市网友 手机用户:

I just wanna say, when women drive, it’s like men driving drunk, a dangerous situation. It should be forbidden for women to drive.

凤凰网湖北省武汉市网友 ymx001957:

It’s not within women’s nature to operate mechanical stuff, so it is better if they avoid driving. Don’t mistakenly believe that driving a car is glamorous. Just last week on TV, a woman claimed that she knows how to drive a car, but doesn’t know how to back up a car. A driver like this will sooner or later hurt someone or himself/herself.

凤凰网天津市网友 CBWH:

Having a car is like having a tiger.

凤凰网浙江省杭州市网友 daweijiju:

Talk about being fucking stupid!

凤凰网陕西省西安市网友 手机用户:

Women driving is unreliable/undependable [dangerous]! This is an ancient truth that will not change!

Such a tragedy. Those who don’t know how to drive really should just not drive. :(

Yow all have a nice day now.
Oh and the new NSA building, wow now that’s “Big Stuff”

          • Dr Sun

Talking about the NSA, gosh have fucked up over the whistle blower,Snowden, who revealed their totally illegal internal spying activities. Charged him with with espionage (odd thing for a NSA operative to be charge with) chased him to HK,demanded arrest and extradition, now the Russians have him.
Lesson for the USA, once your dirty little illegal secrets are revealed, you’d better just admit them, publicly apologize, fire a few Intelligence bosses and change your ways.
Instead what they have in fact done is handed to the Russians the means to compromise their system.
I always knew military intelligence was a oxymoron, but know it seems U.S legal and political intelligence are oxymoron’s as well.

most of Ca is not a beach, just the bit by the sea, whats your point ?

          • Mighty曹

“Life is a beach”. Get the point?
*Are you being hostile or a bitch?

        • wolfgroupasia

Simple: car size is equated by many to safety in an accident. I wouldn’t drive a QQ or a Golf in China even if I could fit into it. If I had my druthers (and a place to park it) I’d drive a Navistar CXT in China.

          • Boris

Good to see them caring so much about their own safety whilst simultaneously caring so much for the welfare of others.

          • http://sinopathic.com/ terroir

Even simpler: people buy these cars to be seen driving them.

You don’t want to be caught seen in a traffic jam driving some economy car, do you?

          • http://aileilei.tumblr.com/ El Puma R.

What would my cousin who bought the Porsche Cayenne turbo would say? I can’t afford to lose face.

          • http://sinopathic.com/ terroir

Helpful tips to gain more face over your cousin:

            1) Buy the exact same car, but put a shiny bumper sticker on it. Point this out at your next golf game with him.
            2) Key it, sideswipe it, sugar in gas tank.
            3) Homicide.

          • http://www.richardfordphotography.com/ Richard Ford

ah! What are you doing around here? Isn’t ChinaSmack a little too mundane for your level? ;-)

          • Joe Bloggs

Its not just size that matters its how the vehicle is built. For example a transverse engine at the front helps tremendously in a crash as the engine makes a barrier. The fairly recent Renault Espace is better in a crash than many 4x4s which to be honest are still using old technology with the engine mounted north-south. For a really bad vehicle the very old VW minibus fails appallingly in the head-on barrier test. It looks as if the heavy engine at the rear just keeps on pushing. (Look on YouTube to see the results). A great many classic cars just don’t handle the crash test at all well but thankfully the really bad models have been withdrawn.

Seriously, the phrase that comes to mind is, “Fuckin’- What the fuckin’. Fuck. Who the fuck fucked this fucking… How did you [two] fucking fucks… Fuck!”

Please pardon my french, but I thought this article was already messed up as it was. I was going to post a comment about the content so I skipped over the comments. Then I saw this comment and went back to read it.

So I ended up posting this very comment first. I don’t even know what else to say about those Anti-Japanese comments.

      • Germandude

Your excessive use of the word “fuck” is surprising and makes me believe that you are lacking something. And it can’t be words, because you managed to use the word “fuck” in many different forms, as for example: “fuckin’, fucked, fucks, Fuckin’”

Since it’s obvious that you are writing a Rap-song, I guess what you are missing is a decent beat. My suggestion: badum, bada, badum, bada, baddadum…

Make a video for that song with some half-naked women and I foresee a great career in the Rap-scene.

        • lonetrey / Dan

Ah, sorry for the obscenity. I should’ve been more specific. I wasn’t directing it at the car victims, it was more of a “What the fuck” at the Chinese netizens.

Kind of like a “wtf” with a bolded, capitalized, and font 50 F.

        • http://www.joshmcfarland.net/ Josh

It’s just a quote from The Boondock Saints.

“That certainly does illustrate the diversity of the word.”

        • Joe Bloggs

He’s an amateur. We had an ex-navy cleaner at one place where I used to work and he would even split words to put the F word in the middle! For example ” Who the F made this F ing mess in this F ing hand F ing basin”.

When one of the security guards was on holiday the bloke was promoted to Security in the post of commissionaire/gate keeper and it was more money! Later a vacancy occurred so the bloke applied for the job but was turned down. “Dunno why the F I didn’t get that F ing job” he said! Perhaps it was to do with company image?

If fuckin’ is the first thing that comes to mind when you see a mutilated corpse, then you should seek psychiatric help.

I don’t want to think about the bodies. To be honest, I am very squeamish around those kind of things, I can’t even watch horror movies most of the time. In fact, when reading this article, I skimmed right past the pictures.

I like to focus on the “hows” and the “whys” of an article rather than then the “whats”, the “whats” in this case being the graphic nature of the “mutilated corpse”.

      • nobunaga

“directed at the Chinese netizen’s inappropriate racism in this situation“

“Japanese” isn’t a race you stupid chink.

          Fine, “discrimination” then?

I was a little pissed off when I wrote that, so clearly I wasn’t being clear. Haha sorry about that then.

You’re pointing out the technicality that racism is when Caucasian people hate on Asians, Asians hate on black people, and etc, right? Pardon me for not mentioning that Japanese and Chinese are both Asian.

“Moderators “a total douche bag. After reading your posts. Are you not only an ignorant ass. But your views are completely redundent. You talk about whitey and his decadence its seems to me china is the only country i know off that seems to belittle and show off what they have.If it wasnt for the western ideals your country would be a rotting shit whole. Well more off a rotting shit whole then it is already. Your chinese moderator you bow down to your masters.

GDP per capita in China is somewhere between Equatorial Guinea and Angola, well below top 100. At the cost of your environment, you plunge particulate mass into the air your children breathe. Many of the richest and smartest Chinese are relocating elsewhere (we are happy to have them in our ‘pathetic whitey’ countries). We have begun learning your simple language with ease. We have started to realize that manufacturing products here isn’t such a great idea, and our factories are moving to more stable countries where we can have transparency into worker safety and protections. Unrest continues to grow here in China, with people taking to the streets more courageously than ever. We all hope to see a strong, stable, and free China, but I fear a collapse will be first required to obtain it. It’s mindsets like yours that are the most counterproductive. “Take over?” “Take the world?” Jesus. Let’s see who’s taking whom when your entire population is facing off with a nuclear winter pointed at it. Hope it never gets to that, and cooler heads prevail.

    • Rainer

Laura Bush was smarter. When parking, she managed to only killed her boy-friend and got “selected”.

  • Beijinger

No offense, but this is totally expected. 1. Chinese people are horrible drivers. 2. Because of 1 and the fact that Chinese people are so obsessed with their cars, they need a fucking spotter when parking their shitty cars.

    It’s just ridiculous.

    • Dr Sun

      generalize much ?

let me tell a true true story. A 1st officer of a ferry docked in the port of Hull (that’s in the UK) was spotting the trucks leaving the ferry. One truck (18 wheel lorry) driven by a Dutch man drove over the officer, realising what he had done, he drove forward, back over the trapped officer. The officer spend 6 months in the ICU, lost his right arm , his right leg (below the knee), required months of reconstructive plastic surgery , months of being on a ventitator for his crushed chest.

So will you know say “thats to be expected” 1. The Dutch are horrible drivers. 2 they need a fucking spotter to drive over ?

      • http://www.chinasmack.com/ MrT

dumb 1st officer to stand near a truck backing up.

      • really?

an SUV and an 18 wheeler are not quite the same.

        • Keppy

Right because you’ve never heard of anyone doing something stupid in a SUV in your country. The number of completely fucking ignorant people here is astounding. Chinasmack seems to be a god damn honeypot for god-complex foreigners who think their own countries are perfect.

      • Zappa Frank

a 18 wheel truck on a ferry and a suv in a park are alike? besides the woman even managed to kill herself.. we’re talking about another level really

      • Germandude

Actually, the Dutch are famous for their driving skills when pulling camping caravans. So it’s not surprising that there are some issues when driving a truck.

    • mauser1898

Most Chinese drivers got their first car and learnt how to drive after the rise of China’s economy, they didn’t have the luxury to start at age of 14.

  • YourSupremeCommander

WOW, so sad indeed, sorry for their kids. One moment they are in a happy family and the next they are orphans. On a side note, individually walled parking spaces? Really!? Who’s the dumb shit designer?

    • Harold Janson

It’s so there can be a garage door and also prevent damage from other cars, or other cars stealing your spot.

    • donscarletti

Look above the car, there’s a rolling door there, presumably to prevent vandalism and theft.

    • http://sinopathic.com/ terroir

Closing door or not, that is still a terrible design. An underground garage should already a enclosed place or at least be safer with limited access … shouldn’t be a need for really small enclosed spaces that would necessitate someone to direct a rear-entry.

Everyone is having their enjoyment by blaming the misfortunes of others upon some sense of horrible schadenfreude, but there’s more to it.

I want to second the call that this design is poor — as is much design in China — and factored into this incident.

      • http://www.chinasmack.com/ MrT

they should put the airbags on the outside of the cars in China.

        • http://sinopathic.com/ terroir

Funny, to show your manners they too must also be on the outside..

They way they’re locked up inside you, it doesn’t seem you have any room for a heart.

          • http://www.chinasmack.com/ MrT

I removed my heart when i started driving here and put it some where safe.

          • http://sinopathic.com/ terroir

Do you have room in your closet?

          • http://www.chinasmack.com/ MrT

            Keep it in the freezer.

      • Kai

Not sure it is necessarily bad design but just a design/feature choice as Harold and donscarletti said above. I’ve seen similar parking design in other countries too. It isn’t common, because it’s definitely extra construction expense, but I’m guessing this is a higher-end complex, one a family who can afford an expensive Lexus SUV can afford to live in.

I also don’t think the design itself necessitates rear-entry. They simply chose to back in instead of pull in. Some people think it is more convenient or they just like opening the garage and seeing the front of the car first. Shrug.

        • http://sinopathic.com/ terroir

          Hey Kai,

if you’d like to know more about my specific opinions regarding this story, here is a piece I wrote regarding the “spin” by Chinese media to paint this as a “tragedy” and why that is the most tragic thing of all about this story.

          http://sinopathic.com/the-tragedy-of-tragedy-woman-driver-kills-husband-self-while-parking-car/

In it I specifically refer to this bad design to which we are speaking of and why it is irrelevant.

          • Kai

You write good editorials, not that I always agree to them but I always find intelligent thought in them. For example, I personally don’t think this spin on a human interest story is very specific to Chinese media but I understand what you’re comparing it to in your mind. Would you mind emailing me?

So, to be clear, you’re saying the design is irrelevant? Or are you saying it’s irrelevant in the context of how the reporter approached reporting this story?

I was responding to your comment which was specifically about the design so I’m trying to understand what you’re saying in response to my response to you now.

      • mp2u

I live in that building. Almost all the spaces are enclosed with electric garage door openers. You have to buy them seperately so most of them are empty. People avoid parking down there and park along the roads and sidewalks in the community.

        • http://sinopathic.com/ terroir

Follow-up question: for the people who park their cars in the underground garage, has there before been any concerns for safety because of this layout? Is there any concern among residents that something like this may happen again?

What else besides “What a tragedy” are residents saying? Like, has anyone said “what a terrible design, this was going to happen sooner or later?”

          • mp2u

I don’t think anyone expected that someone would die. Maybe a few people were concerned about scratching or denting larger cars while parking. This community is considered the best in Fenghua because it’s well landscaped and the buildings are nicely laid out (with the exception of the parking garages). But the running joke before this happened was the fact that most of the vast parking garages are empty(most are interconnected between all 58 buildings). Almost everyone tries parks everywhere along the streets and sidewalks which causes a lot of traffic congestion.

          • http://sinopathic.com/ terroir

Whoa. One enormous, vast underground space. That interconnects 58 buildings. And is empty? The only suitable metaphor I can think of is Madonna’s vagina.

I had other questions but I think I’ll leave you with that imagery. Thanks for answering.

          • Mighty曹

That metaphor holds much irony in that Madonna was “Like a virgin.. ooh… touched for a million first time….”

    • http://simplydesigned.tumblr.com/ maybeabanana

They lack structural integrity…put more walls in for support.

    • Repatriated

These parking spots are likely sold as “VIP” at a higher price, while the rest around the lot are just regular spots with paint on the ground.

      • mp2u

Most of the parking spots are enclosed in this building. I have seen 4 spots that aren’t, 2 of which are under and open skylight.

        • Repatriated

I’ve never been in this parking garage so used the word “likely”. A lot I have been in have these types of spots around the outer walls and open parking in the center.

These enclosed spots are very dangerous in that Chinese people think parking garages are race tracks and drive very fast through them, ignoring all the blind corners and the fact people are walking around. Not to mention, when someone is pulling out, they rarely look to see if anyone is coming anyway.

I feel really bad for the two children, especially the 6-year old.

I was going to write something. I had a lot of tasteless thoughts in my mind initially, but I think I’ll refrain from sharing them due to the tragedy that had occurred.

    Edit: Nope. Couldn’t do it.

Seriously, what the hell. How could you do this to your poor kids? I’m just so angry at the parents. Moreso the mother than the father, but regardless.

    • Mighty曹

Same here. Initially I was only going to express condolence but….
If there ever was such a phenomenon of a ‘perfect storm’ in stupidity or the absence of common sense this would be it.

      • Kai

I dunno. I think the assumption of abject stupidity MIGHT be a little harsh. I admit it’s the first thing I’d probably think of because I personally don’t need help with this sort of stuff, but I honestly don’t think it’s that uncommon for people to get help backing up, having someone get out to help direct them to make sure they don’t bump into anything. I see it all the time, especially with parallel parking, and not just in China.

I can also easily imagine someone panicking after accidentally pinning their loved one to the wall and forgetting to change gears or changing to the wrong gear. There’s a reason why emergency response wisdom is to remain calm.

It’s a tragedy, and yeah, on the surface, it looks really bad and inconceivable, like how incredibly stupid one must be, but I can see how it happened.

        • Mighty曹

Maybe it was too harsh to call them stupid. I have no objection to people requiring assistance in backing up a vehicle. Occasionally I find myself in such need as well. What I’m miffed about was the lack of ‘common sense’.

          1) I always tell people to NEVER stand in the direct path of a moving car, be it forward or reverse.

          2) If I were in a situation where I needed help it can only mean that space is very confined and extra caution must be exercised. GO SLOW

          3) This may be a direct result of experience (or the lack of): Whenever an emergency occurs the first instinctive action is to shift the gear into ‘Park’ and apply the parking brake. This comes to me instinctively without having to think, “Oh shit! What happened??? Wait, first let me stop the car before I check”. This shows the lack of safety training before being qualified to drive.

  • jon

While the male and female clearly did not think this through, it’s still a tragedy nonetheless. Lexus SUVs have a documented record with gas pedal problems, it’s not inconceivable that the car malfunctioned at the worst possible time.

For the parents to be able to afford a vehicle like that in China and have two kids, it speaks volumes about their finances. Evidently, they make much more and has provided for their kids more than the trove of retards laughing at this misfortune ever could.

    • KAMIKAZIPILOT

Kind of hard to blame the SUV on this one. Most of the gas pedal problems for Lexus results in the accelerator getting stuck. That doesn’t sound like the case here.

      • jon

Yes, the couple made an egregious mistake. Still, Lexus SUV accelerator pedals have been problem prone for quite awhile. This story should serve as a warning to drivers all over.

        • KAMIKAZIPILOT

Of course people should know about the problems with the pedals but that pales in comparison to the much bigger issue is general driver education. A competent driver should have no problem backing into a parking stall.

          • Jimney Cricket

Yeah. I know another “gas pedal” problem. Don’t wear ridiculously high heeled shoes while putting your foot on the gas pedal.

    • Dan

Yes. Money solves everything. It even dissolves ridicule after you’re dead. LOL

      • jon

My post was about how they lived, yes they made a stupid decision, but hopefully their story will serve as a warning to other drivers.

Your comment was about ridiculing and laughing at dead people, funny considering your type don’t have the balls to laugh at them in real life. Chances are you work for one, assuming you can even find a job. lol

  • KAMIKAZIPILOT

On one hand I hate reckless/stupid drivers as they pose a danger not only to themselves and passengers but more importantly others on the road, including myself. But this woman wasn’t purposely reckless, just incompetent. Even the husband was incompetent since he was standing where he could easily get run over. Feel bad for the kids, just a terrible tragedy.

I hope China will increase the quality of their driver education but I doubt it. This story will just fade from memory in a few days and the insanity on the roads will continue.

    • Jimney Cricket

It will be replaced with another soon enough

  • Peye

In my opinion it is not only the driving skills that are in question here. The husband placed himself into a confined area, either behind or beside a car that was to be moved. This is a No-No under any circumstances. People should be aware that safety requirements tell you, never to be in front or behind ( under, beside ?) an automobile that is to be moved or is moving. Also, to be sure that an escape path, if needed, is open and available clear of obstacles.

  • Xiu

Some of the comments I see on this site come pretty close.

      • bprichard

China Smack! Home of the internet’s worst commenters. This place makes YouTube comments look rational.

  • Ai Yah

If only the Lexus had a back up camera!!!

    • Nick in Beijing

haha.. i was thinking the same thing. i was in my friend’s lexus suv just the other day and thought the backup and side view cameras was really great with all the data they showed about path and blah blah.

  • Marcus Muller

This is such a tragedy. I can’t fathom how the daughter feels to be in the vicinity of the accident. Also can’t believe how apathetic and hateful this community is.

“I love how natural selection works”

That comment has 20 likes and ONE singular dislike.. Wow.

This is why I am largely disgusted by humanity. Good job humans/racist, you never fail when it comes to disappointing me!

    • truthspeaker

Yep. This is why 99% of white people should be gassed and turned into dog food.

      • mr.wiener

        “truthspeaker” , more like “shit-stirer”.

    • Marcus Black

O.O who let you out? get back in there *urgently pushes him into a cage, padlocks cage*

  • Akio

“whose grades aren’t bad” – this! This is the most Chinese part of the story here! It’s a story about a tragedy caused by human stupidity, why does it matter how good their daughter’s grades are?

    • Boris

Perhaps a face-saving strategy designed to imply that they weren’t a family of inbred halfwits. Not that any ‘faces’ were saved.

      • Boris

No, I meant like your mother and your sister.

        • mr.wiener

Let me guess, you are Jin’s sister?

          • mr.wiener

            But you just answered.
            ..and promptly upvoted yourself.

          • Boris

Acqua, I sense we’ve met before. Good morning to you, you old goat. Good morning to you too, Mr Wiener. It looks like it’s going to be a hot one!

          • mr.wiener

Technically answering me to tell me you don’t answer questions from whiteys is still an answer.
Maybe you can disappear in a puff of logic now.

          • mr.wiener

I’m insulting a Chinese person [if pointing out logical fallacies counts as insulting].
But I suspect you are a white troll as you are far too theatrically belligerent.

          • Mighty曹

I even offered him a tip to tone it down a tad to be more convincing.

          • Jing Li

I have an idea. I hate China because I have emotional and psychological anger issues and I’m too narrow minded to pick out the good and the bad. It’s much easier for me to just say it’s all bad.

But here’s the thing. Whenever I talk about it, people see what kind of shallow, inept individual I am. There’s got to be a way to make everyone agree with me that China is bad.

I know what I’ll do. I’ll post really stupid comments that make me look like a moron and I’ll tell everyone I’m Chinese. I’ll be rude, insulting, and above all else, stupid!

            ….

Yeah, we’ve seen your type many times before. You, my friend, seriously need to talk to someone about your issues. Preferably in your home country, which I can assure you, is not China.

          • Boris

Wait a few years. I’ll bet in the not too distant future you’ll give more than a passing thought to relocating to Taiwan.

          • Jing Li

Actually, I don’t live in China. I just have a pet peeve of generalizations, racism, bigots, and narrow minded people. I don’t care where they’re from or where they claim they’re from. I can’t stand people that don’t at least try to research or understand the topic of conversation.

Whenever I see a comment that starts with “(insert nationality here) people are all…”, I’m either going to completely ignore you or try to put you in your place. Usually, ignore. It’s pretty redundant trying to argue with these people. A) It’s not very challenging and B) They’re never going to admit defeat.

Just to be clear, not referring to you, but to the trolls we’re discussing.

          • Jing Li

I’m not a “whitey” but you certainly are.

        • Boris

What Cultural Revolution? I’ve never heard of it! And the Great Leap Forward was performed by a frog on anabolic steroids. Please don’t forget what the Japanese did in Nanjing.

          • Boris

Tibet is mysterious place. I want go there for holiday. I have CD traditional Tibet folk music. I like songs, ‘Song of the emancipated serfs’ and ‘Chairman Mao sent his men to free us’. Very wonderful!

          • M.N

The concept of that movie,”Dumb and Dumber” came by looking at this persons’(Moderator) life.

          • Tricksy Raistlin

You’ve GOT to be trolling. There’s just no way you could actually believe what you’re saying.

          • Jing Li

Kai (I believe) deleted a whole bunch of his posts. What’s funny is, just before I was going to bed, he signed on as another name and posted about a dozen of the EXACT SAME POSTS word for word!

I honestly think he’s got a database of moronic posts on his computer and he just randomly picks and posts them.

          • Tricksy Raistlin

*sigh* so he’s another bored racist with an internet connection. Thanks for the lookout; I certainly won’t bother with anything else he puts out in the future.

          • l

You must be joking. China is all about destroying its culture and re shaping it into some cheesy disney land.

    • http://sinopathic.com/ terroir

For sympathy. Just like how the woman who was raped in Hong Kong by evil was an “aspiring university student”, the audience is more sympathetic to her because she has more to lose.

On the other hand, the six year-old “doesn’t understand the meaning of ‘tragedy”", a rather terrible literal translation. She’s dumb and innocent, the older one is smart and innocent.

The news story is actually a moral lesson: written as a tragedy, we need to get to know the victims.

    • Alex

Like that story of a student raped in Hong Kong. “She was going to a famous university”

So-fucking-what. The tragedy is the rape, and in this case, that she lost her parents, not the grades.

    • Jing Li

I hate making light of a tragic story, but you raised a funny point that set off my creative juices. Potential China news headlines.

      “C Student Dies. Yay!”

    • Jimney Cricket

Maybe they were implying that the parents were so stupid that should have let their daughter drive

  • Shanghaijed

Ah that’s why it’s always better to park front end in first.

  • guest

I just want to thank chinasmack for shrinking that photo
    .
maybe it could be shrunk just a tiny bit more in the future though

    thanks

    • Boris

Even so, they should’ve given us a heads-up first.

      • Kai

I shrunk it and added the heads-up. I didn’t think the image was large enough and with any reasonable amount of detail as to cause offense at that size.

    • Jing Li

I just wanna thank ChinaSmack for deleting most of the troll comments.

  • Tony Heaney

The husband himself got out of the car to guide her [in backing up], walked to the rear end of the car, and suddenly, with a roar of the throttle, the Lexus reversed at high speed, and pinned the husband who was standing between the rear door of the car and the garage wall as he gave a loud cry.

This pretty much summed it up. He was entrusting his wife, who clearly had little to no idea what she was doing, behind the wheel of a several thousand pound vehicle. She reacted with all the grace and skill of a 14 year old taking his dads Porsche for a joyride and crushed her husband like an egg.

Further evidence she had little to no practical knowledge of how to drive a car. Even in a panic most people have the sense to put their vehicle in the correct gear. She acted instinctively, assuming gas=away, and committed practical suicide in the process.

Given they could afford a Lexus, but not driving lessons, I’m inclined to think they bribed off the officials (as you said). Its infinitely faster than going through the system and pretty much pocket change for upper-middle class or upper-class chinese citizens. Government workers at the bottom dont make much.

    • Jing Li

      Why? You’re not Chinese.

    • Jing Li

From what I saw in China, either everyone is bribing officials or there’s something wrong with their instruction/tests.

    • $43282628

“Even in a panic most people have the sense to put their vehicle in the correct gear.”

When I first started driving that happened a few times, and that was just run of the mill anxiety, not “oh god i killed my husband” panic. Recently I meant to slow down to miss a squirrel in the road and accidentally accelerated (unfamiliar car and distracted is my excuse, and the squirrel was fine.) Point is shit happens, although I agree I can’t imagine what the husband was thinking getting behind the car with what looks like very little way out. Regardless of her driving ability, that’s an awful idea.

      • Tony Heaney

re: “Even in a panic most people have the sense to put their vehicle in the correct gear.”

not when they are inexperienced and have bribed people, an experienced driver maybe but not an inexperienced one

  • Nick in Beijing

Stupid things happen to stupid people.

    • Nick in Beijing

      Yes. What about them?

      • Jing Li

Trying to figure out what that guy is talking about is like playing Charades with a leper.

  • Tricksy Raistlin

I’ve gotta say, some of these comments are beyond absurd. Stay away from Japanese products because they kill people? WTF?

Also, why can nobody in this country park a car without a goddamn support team? Just park the damn thing! This accident and the two deaths are so infuriating in how easily they could have been avoided, it really makes a person mad.

As for comments saying to not letting women drive, or to keep women away from mechanical devices…well, here in China I’ve always, ALWAYS felt safer with a woman behind the wheel. The men typically drive like lunatics, especially the taxi drivers. In 3 years I’ve never once been in a car where a woman drove worse than a man.

    • nickhz

i was with my boss, who is a woman…… we were driving down a busy street and her phone rang….. she decides that she would like to answer the phone….. by stopping dead in the middle of traffic and answering it. does this sound like a good driver?

      • Tricksy Raistlin

Sounds pretty horrible, actually. I know you pointed out that your boss is a woman, but this seems more like “I’m higher on the food chain, so screw everyone else,” which incidentally can also explain why I get nearly run over on a daily basis by Audis driving on the sidewalk.

I’ve only been a passenger in two cars with middle-class women, and they both drive accurately and conscientiously. Most of my experiences are with blue-collar drivers, and I still maintain that–in my experience–the men are horrible. I’m a guy, and I think these guys drive HORRIBLY. I’ll get in a woman’s taxi over a man’s any day of the week here. And those bus drivers, the ones that drive the bus like it’s a 2-door coupe? Screw those guys. Seriously.

  • markus peg

one comment said something bad about the new drivers, with the tests getting harder the newer drivers should in theory be better than the older ones, in the past you could just get a licensee using connections without even taking the test!

this story is horrible, but with so many bad drivers in China its not as shocking as he story would have been in another country. the other day i saw a lorry had driven off the highway, and then when i got into the city a car stuck between a bus and another car, completely wrecked. now is it due to the population that i see more accidents here or the bad drivers? i would say its both.. When im driving i always have to watch out for other bad drivers [ more so than normal]…

  • eric

This stories total bullshit. This could never happen its like being hit by lightning five times in a row. Police should be looking into foul play

    • Jing Li

In my experience, I saw quite a few things in China that I always thought “could never happen”.

  • B*tches, Leave

ah, the typical incompetence … for some unknown reason to me, this state of the mind is very “adored” here in China … though it’ll be always surrounded by tragedies like this.

  • Jing Li

It doesn’t really matter your race. Bad drivers are bad drivers. This is a very sad story from someone who probably wasn’t properly trained. I learned to drive in Canada, but a few friends and family came to Canada with Chinese driver’s licenses. My personal experience was that those who learned to drive in Canada (which I believe Chinese must do at this point, but that’s pretty recent) were generally safer drivers than those who had learned in China. The main reason being that Canadian lessons are geared towards practical use, where Chinese lessons are geared specifically to passing the test.

I remember an older taxi driver in Toronto telling me a story once.

“About 20 years ago, Canada was getting tons of immigrants from the middle east and, if they had a driver’s license from their home country, they could simply transfer it to a Canadian one. No test involved. The problem was, some of these people had licenses and had never been properly tested anywhere. In some cases, the person had never driven before.

At that time, a lot of new immigrants were being hired as taxi drivers, as it was a job that was easily attained and a good way to earn fast money.

One day, a landed immigrant (won’t mention the country, can’t remember and it’s not that important) who had just started working as a taxi driver in Toronto, had a call to pick up someone at the posh hotel in Yorkville (rich street in Toronto). He pulled into the half circle entrance, waited in front of the hotel, and after 10 minutes called dispatch saying there was no one there.

‘Just wait a few minutes, he’ll come.’ said his dispatcher.

He continued to wait and wait and no one came. Finally, even his dispatcher said, ‘Wait a couple more minutes then leave. He probably hailed a taxi on the street.’

The driver waited and waited. Finally, he decided to leave. Now, at this point, the driver was pissed off. So he decided to make an exit. He put his foot on the peddle to pull out with the added ‘squealing tires’ effect… unfortunately, he was in reverse, smashed the lobby window, and half of his cab was in the hotel.

However, that was not the worst part of it.

At the time, George Schultz, Secretary of State for the American government, was staying in that hotel. His security team immediately thought this was an attack. They had the driver handcuffed, on his chest, with a ball gag (to stop him from swallowing the cyanide). One can only assume the guy was taken into extensive questioning.”

Not sure how that’s relevant, but thought it was a funny story.

  • Jing Li

In my tradition of posting tons and then disappearing for two weeks. I’d like to offer out a suggestion. Don’t allow non registered users to post. The average troll has the attention span of a mosquito. This can be proven by simply looking at posts of the trolls. One or two might be bothered to make up an email account and register it to Chinasmack, but for the most part, this would be too complicated and too much trouble.

With all of the trolling on this site, how I usually look at stories and comment on them are 1) read the story, 2) read the comments until I see a troll (which is usually pretty quick), 3) post my own comment.

Occasionally I’ll see a “recently posted” comment on the side or bottom that I’ll check out, but for the most part, that’s it. Then I wait for replies, reply to them and return in a couple of weeks.

At least have a vote on it. Something’s got to be done about the trolling. Every time I come here, it’s worse.

    • Germandude

Yupp, I completely agree. While I am against most moderating of posts, sth should be done against the trolling. It starts to get really annoying.

      • Jing Li

Not talking about moderating. The sites that require registration, you see a LOT less trolling, Just means when you sign up, you get an email that has an activation link. Just makes trolling a little more work, which (judging from the time and thought that goes into most of their posts) is something they don’t like doing.

    • Boris

Agreed. This is a serious site for serious people!

    • KAMIKAZIPILOT

True, compared to a few years ago when I first started lurking here, it’s gotten much worse. There’s just so many posters here, many of them trolls, this sausage fest is getting crowded. Wonder where Linette went? I miss her pretty face :(

  • Germandude

I don’t know. I read through your whole post, thinking: “Soon there is a point, or it will probably end with sth to laugh about”. I herewith have to inform you that I am utterly disappointed.
This post also scores lower on the trolling scale compared to some of your former posts and quite honestly, I am not willing to give you any point for that.
However, feel free to send me your bank account/home address so that I can donate sth to you because as it appears, you are in desperate need of help. Did your parents try to park their car recently?

    • Boris

You haven’t read many essays written by Chinese in English, have you?

      • Germandude

I don’t know what’s your point? Might want to help me out here?

        • Boris

I have to wade through essays as incomprehensible as this on a weekly basis. It makes my head explode! (sorry, I should’ve phrased that differently). Anyway, he could’ve made it funnier but still, it must ring true for anyone who’s taught here.

          • Germandude

Still his writing style gives him away. That’s all I am saying.

        • Germandude

Cool. Continue trolling if that pushes your ego and means something to your pathetic life. Have fun, but try being funnier so that we can all laugh with you, not about you.

    • Jing Li

He’s just another China basher. They think they’re clever. They come on here and say “Hi, I’m Chinese, you all suck!” which is not the typical behavior of any Chinese in my experience (save a few military). They’re just trying to get people hating on China.

Trust me, any educated Chinese person, in my experience, especially with that command of the English language, has a much broader (and less loathsome) perspective of the world around them.

It’s just a troll that thinks he’s found the secret of spreading his unreasonable and borderline psychotic hatred of China.

      • Germandude

After his 2nd post on here, I knew he isn’t Chinese. That however doesn’t mean that Chinese trolls don’t exist.

        • Kai

Thank god there are some of you who have some perceptive skills. And yes, there are plenty of Chinese trolls as well. We’ve seen them on the site before too.

      • mr.wiener

Wu mao is what mainlanders call people who are quite obviously working for the govt in trying to shape public opinion [apparently the get paid 5 mao per line]
You aren’t a wu mao. We’ve pretty much established you are a western troll.

        • mr.wiener

To address your points in order:
#1.”We’re all over the place. They call us “wu mao”, when in fact we’re almost always just people”, I’d say that was calling yourself wumao at least in other people’s perception of you.
#2. I’ve been off the “Engrish teaching” tit for the last 8 years. I own a small to medium business now.
#3.You are probably white or an ABC.
#4.If I was double jointed and had a flashlight..

        • mr.wiener

If we are crackers you must be the crumbs.

        • Germandude

And we did that through our own awesomeness. No need to ask Columbo to give us a hand.
