Young American Working in China Earns Only 1500 RMB a Month

A 22-year-old American young man works in a Tianjin bicycle factory making 1500 RMB per month.

Update: While alluded to in the Chinese netizen comments translated below and pointed out by various chinaSMACK commenters as well, to clarify, these photos and the story attached to them are from a 2008 discussion forum post titled “Financial Crisis, Foreigner Comes to China to be Blue Collar Worker” that quickly spread across the Chinese internet at the time (and is currently experiencing a resurgence, hence the translation below).

It was subsequently reported (and now re-reported) that the man featured in the photos was actually a model hired to do advertising for the company, had entered the workshop to experience what it was like, and the photos were taken by an employee of the company assigned to accompany him during his visit. This employee decided to post the photos and fabricate a story relating to the then topical world financial crisis, which came to light when investigating Chinese reporters went to the factory, found that no such employee exists, and company management explained what had happened.

Please note that the images in this post have been edited to remove the model’s likeness in consideration of the model’s desire for privacy while preserving the integrity of the translation and reporting of this story.

网易安徽省宿州市网友 [laoshirb]:

News reporters these days are without integrity/morals. Just how many years ago was this? Once again pulling this out? Before 2009 and especially before 2008, 1500 RMB was not considered low, because prices were relatively low. I remember in 2005 when I first stated working, my salary was only 550 kuai and my salary expectations was 1000+, while salary expectations in Jiangsu and Zhejiang were 1500+. In 2008, salary expectations wre 2000+, because prices had gone up, and now salary expectations are 3000+, and my expectations is in accordance with my relatively lower living expenses. I live in a small town in Suzhou City in Anhui, and even in a small town restaurant in the suburbs/outskirts, an appetizer or some peanuts will cost 6 kuai. Can Tianjin be lower than it is here? A stir-fried green bell pepper is is 8 RMB, 1500 can’t be even enough to eat in today’s Tianjin, right? And then there are cigarettes, liquor, phone bill, clothing, and traveling costs. Today’s not like in the past where one can travel without money. I remember when I was little when my parents brought me back to our hometown and had no money so we would hitch rides, hitching rides all the there. Although transportation now is more developed and convenient than in the past, if you don’t have money, you can try hitching a ride and they’ll just run you over with absolutely no one giving a shit. Seriously, without money, you can’t go anywhere. [He] lives in the factory’s dorm, could the utilities be included? I have never seen [employers] providing housing and utilities, where watching TV in dorms requires paying money and inserting a card in the set-top box. Adding all these little things together, how could 1500 be enough? If it has to be enough, one’d have to eat buns and drink tap water everyday. Is the editor once again pulling out outdated news to tell people not to complain about low wages, that even an American has run over to work, that his wages are so low yet even he doesn’t complain? Are you trying to say Americans can endure hardship/work hard and that’s why they’re strong and powerful, and that Chinese people cannot endure hardship/work hard?

kane413 [网易美国网友]: (responding to above)

No wonder, the federal minimum wage is now $7.25. Earning so little money, you don’t even have to pay income tax and even instead get earned income credit. Even working at McDonald’s in Ohio can get one $1200 each month. Him going so far away to work doesn’t even cover the money for his flight…

This guy is probably a backpacker and his last stop was China. He originally planned to work in China to make enough money to buy a ticket back to America. Only after arriving did he discover that one month’s wages in the Heavenly Kingdom isn’t even enough for room and board. He’s worked for 2 years and still hasn’t saved enough money to buy a plane ticket, and has already lost all hope in returning to his country.

网易广东省深圳市网友 ip:113.116.*.*:

This young person’s mother wanted to toughen him up/train him, so she left him in China, without a single cent of money, wanting him to earn enough money to buy a airplane ticket before he can return to his country. He said his greatest hardship was not having friends. This is news from several years ago. He probably went back to America long ago.

What’s the point of this article? Just a bunch of photos of some guy doing a job. Does this have something to do with you people’s inferiority complex?

    • biggj

They had to counteract the last story to make chinese people feel not so bad about living and working in china. If an america does it than so can I!!!!

  • Brett

I doubt this is a true story. Just a publicity stunt.

    • Cauffiel

My gut tells me its a way to irritate Chinese who can’t find jobs, foment disdain for foreigners.

      • Or just to make oneself feel not as bad. A Mild case of schadenfrueden.

  • twelve ways

Guy must be dumb as fuck, even the lowest paid ‘teaching’ job pays 5 times what he earns

    • maja

I think the lowest can be around 3000 a month with accomodation. I’m thinking of the 5000RMB a month in Beijing if you happen to be black and downsizing it a bit for other places where the expenses are lower. It can also be much higher (I heard 30k)… it’s difficult to define it a job at this stage.

    • Graham Esender

Some people really aren’t in it for the money. I was working in a bar for 2000kuai a month. One of my greatest life experiences

      • Brett

As a student or for a living?

      • Irvin

Some people just do it for the experience, money isn’t everything. Money is a type of compensation but compensation isn’t always necessary monetary.

Perhaps the dude just wanna experience what it’s like to be a grass root chinese worker, that experience is his compensation……..maybe.

        • biggj

That is what people who can’t get a good job say. haha
” I do it for life experience”

          • Irvin

If everyone thinks like you do then volunteering jobs and charities wouldn’t exist in this world. But they do.

You’ll get it when you get older and experience life more.

          • biggj

I know the difference between a volunteering and charity job than someone who just has a shitty job. a 40 year old working at McDonalds is not doing it for some high cause. He just sucks at life and has a shitty job. I know the differance between the 2…very well.

          • Baphomet

Mcdonalds managers are also losers to boot. But then I would never eat, set foot in, or work at a mcdonalds in my life. Seems people need to learn the benefits of a plant based diet, frugal living, and not being a wage slave!

          • biggj

            That is what I’m saying.

          • DavidisDawei

I worked at a McDonalds when I was 16 and there are some “winners” working there, but overall, it was an excellent learning experience. They are a VERY well run corporation!
If you don’t have an education and want to have a career with one company your whole life, work hard and move up the company ladder…like everyone used to be able to do 40 years ago… then McDonalds is probably a very good option..
            cheers,

          • biggj

Yeah lol, Girl in my class when I was in high school worked at McDonalds evening and weekend and stuff like that. As soon as she graduated she started working full time and was became manager at the age of 18. Now is this place was only a rural McDonalds in a small town. She was making 25,000 a year though. lol It’s not that good…I think she still does it…but she works at a better one. I assume she is getting paid more than she used to..

          • Baphomet

But would you want to work there for ALL your life? Not doubting what you say, it is a learning experience. I still maintain what old Theodore himself had to say:

A man who has never gone to school may steal from a freight car; but if he has a university education, he may steal the whole railroad.

Meaning a uni education lets you pick and choose, and work smarter or lazier, not harder.

            http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/quotes/t/theodorero101963.html

          • Irvin

It’s never too early or too late in life to come to want philosophical exploration.

If someone when they’re 40 want to explore what is like to work in Mcdonalds, who are you to judge.

Life is more complicated than having a good job, it is immature and shallow to look at life in a narrow spectrum as only having a good job.

          • biggj

If someone when they are 40 want to explore what its like to work at micky D’s.. then all the power to them..thats great. But I think 99% of the time that is not the case. The case is it’s their last resort. It’s either work there, or not pay your bills.

You honest don’t think that people working on a production line or shoveling shit all day do it for life experience do you? Or they are there because of some higher calling? I may looking at it in a simple way, but you’re looking way to hard to find a complex reason.

Life is about being happy and enjoying your time. And if you enjoy doing a shitty paying job, wonderful. But working on production line was defiantly not 99% of the peoples first choice in life.

          • Irvin

This got nothing to do with the guy in the article. You assume too much and think that life of everyone in the world is only through the keyhole as you see it.

I never said that your assumtion isn’t a possibility, I’m just saying there are more possibilities to life than how you see it.

          • biggj

You have you views I have mine. Everyone life is unique and special. No one has the same life as you are I. Are you happy? Am I happy? Well in my opinion that is what counts. But in some cases, not in all….the most simple and logical explanation for why people do things…is usually the right reason.I dont cancel out the other possible reasons like you think I do…

We can make a book of possibilities why someone does what they do….but what is the most logical reason? I start with that reason and then go down the list.

          • Beelzebub

In your opinion, others are happy doing nothing, and WHAT IS WRONG WITH THAT!!!!!

          • DavidisDawei

            Yes BiggJ,
You are right, but I would venture most people are doing something every day, they wouldn’t be doing if money was not an issue….
Unfortunately most of us are slaves to the almighty “dollar” (RMB, Pound, et al)

          • Beelzebub

Herd mentality, why work? Find ways, not to be a slave, grow and eat veggies, brew your own booze, get welfare, write, refuse to be a cog…

          • Baphomet

Agreed, and why work hard? This notion of the conservative right that all you need to do is be self focused and work hard to get ahead is utter nonsense! Volunteering is noble, nothing wrong with it for a year or two imho.

          • Living proof that that’s not true

          • biggj

            lol what?

          • Well I read this wrong, kind of. I think I may have said this before, but I’m one of the “do what you love and you never work a day in your life” type of people, rather than just look for a job that pays a lot of cash. I mean I won’t work for peanuts…I have bills…but you know what I mean. Like that Alaskan commercial fishing job…it paid a lot…but the real reason I went was just because I wanted to go to the middle of nowhere in Alaska, and to work in a boat.

But anyway, I read this like “all people who say ‘I do it for life experiences’ can’t get a good job” which I am pretty sure, now, isn’t what you meant haha

      • Dick Leigh

100% sure it’s illegal, but so what? Illegal work is ridiculously easy to find. I taught english “illegally” because they offered to pay me more if I did.

        • Brett

Not at the factory, I meant “in China illegally”. I know there’s off the books teaching going on everywhere, but this is totally different. I want to know how he had managed to stay in China for two years if he quit school.

          • biggj

He just could just keep getting tourist visas.

          • Brett

For Americans any visa is like $160, doubt he has the money for it, it true.

    • Cauffiel

Why put -teaching- in quotes? To suggest we are not real teachers? We might not be to the standards/credentials of most other countries in the world, but the average foreign English teacher in China is surely as qualified and skilled as most Chinese teachers in any subject.

      • chandlerpatrick

I’m not so sure that the average foreign English teacher is as qualified and skilled in “any” subject… Could you teach advanced physics?

        • Cauffiel

No, and thats a dumb example…. how many people anywhere in the world even understand advanced physics? How can you compare that to any other subject taught to English-class-aged students in China?

I know a lot of foreign English teachers come here to fuck around, I know we have a reputation, and it doesn’t offend or disappoint me that we do, or that people frequently point it out.

My point is this: the system makes plenty of room for us, with low standards, low expectations, legal mandates to employ a certain number of us, and a cultural fondness for us in what is an otherwise racially homogenous nation (56 whateverz), and that the standards and expectations are insignificantly higher for Chinese faculty.

I’m not really defending foreign English teachers, or even necessarily disparaging Chinese teachers as a whole (many are pretty damn good), as much as saying the education system is run by 脑残 and producing a lot of 脑残.

          • Dick Leigh

The teachers in chinese universities are pretty bad once you get to know them. I know many chinese instructors with only bachelor degrees teaching classes unrelated to their major. I paid for two semesters of english and the teachers were mostly horrible. One of them didn’t even speak english… and she was teaching an absolute beginner’s class.

          • WoRPt

And yet Shanghai holds the rank of #1 in the world for students in reading literacy, science and maths.

          • Cauffiel

Hey everyone…. write the craziest shit you can think of here…. WoRPt believes everything he reads.

          • Baphomet

And so what? shanghai is only for rich expats anyway, no way I would want to live there, it is infested with western Grovelling Weasels.

          • WoRPt

…. because you’ve got so much class.

          • Baphomet

I have actually, was born middle class, even though I am a stauch socialist and despise hard work and the plutocracy class.

          • Cauffiel

            What is happening here?

I say foreign English teachers are roughly as qualified for their jobs as Chinese teachers, and chandlerpatrick says “oh, what about this subject hardly anyone in the world knows very well, I bet you can’t teach THAT.”

Then I say that the Chinese education system has, ya know,…. “room for improvement”… and WoRPt replies “Oh, what about this small locality where resources are purposely concentrated, they are doing much better than average.”

I doubt either of you are the last bit dumb, but you must be well familiarized with outliers and with the value of generalizing about a broad topic.

            Am I that wrong here?

        • Paulos

I don’t think that’s what he meant. I think what he means is that the average waijiao is as effective at teaching English as the average Chinese teacher is at teaching their subject of expertise.

For what it’s worth I think he may be right. There are certainly great schools here where that’s not the case, especially in the developed cities, but the standards at your average run-of-the-mill schools are incredibly low, not to mention all the cases of bribery, rote memorization, and child abuse.

          Superiority complex much?

        • Baphomet

Could you? What is your IQ? Are you a nuclear scientist or something? Besides, I wish I never got my degree it is totally useless and unneeded for China, now for Taiwan, a different matter entirely.Take a hike body!!!!

      • biggj

That’s like being the smartest kid with down syndrome. haha

        • Cauffiel

          Still the smartest, yo!

          • biggj

            High five!!

        • Repatriated

          Haha

        • WoRPt

LOL! I hate you! I”m a teacher! But LOL!

        • Baphomet

Not really, better than being on the dole in the UK or welfare in the USA, I still maintain that. End of story!!!

          • biggj

I agree there. At least it’s a job.

          • Beelzebub

not anymore, one needs a degree, the tide is a turning

          • biggj

            A photo shopped one.

          • Guest

You are just trolling mine is genuine with transcript, and no I will not tell you where from, or send you the scanned copies. They are even notarized by the representative office of Taiwan in London, but go ahead, stir all you like. Welders don’t have degrees do they?

          • biggj

I’m not talking about you. Just the average English teacher in china.

          • biggj

Calm down buddy. lol No one is accusing you of anything. :)

          • Beelzebub

That would not fly, in Taiwan they definitely check, in fact your docs need to be notarized up front. It will happen in china too for sure.

      • Ryo

I personally know someone who has no teaching experience and no work experience for years that got an offer as an English teacher. He was offered 6k rmb but he declined. And yes, he wanted to “teach” because he wanted a free ride to China to play.

        • biggj

Same thing happened to me in china. I having dinner at this french outdoor restaurant with like a paris theme to it in Hangzhou. Anyhow, guy came up and introduced himself and asked me if I was interested in a job teaching. He told me he heard me talking and like the way I sounded. I told him no not really and he gave me his business card and told me owned a training center and told he about the operation he had. We talked for like 10 mins and then I thanked him for the offer but I was just a tourist. He was offering 10,000 with 2,000 housing allowance and work visa and whole 9 yards. hahaha. After he left my wife a I had a good laugh over it. The guy was nice though. But by being white and handsome and sounding nice when I speak was all I need I guess. hahaah

          • Baphomet

so your wife is hangzhou ren? This would not have been shuguang lu perchance?

          • biggj

I don’t know what you mean. The restaurant? It was kind of close to west lake.

          • Beelzebub

Oh I see perhaps nanshan lu, long time since I was there. But let me tell you the expats there are a motley crew of crooks and schemers, one american I knew fled owing his chinese girlfriend a fortune was wanted for child support, I would be very wary of trusting any foreigner in that crappy weasel city

        • Baphomet

6k rmb, well let us see, female graduates fresh out of chinese university earn maybe 2,500 rmb a month in guangdong and probably work some job for a perv boss, 6 days a week, who will promote them if they, you know, nudge, nudge, wink wink. 6k rmb and free apartment for teaching one lesson 16 times a week does not seem so bad to me, and paid holidays, and even when have no classes.

    • Archie

Clearly he isn’t doing it for the money. I’d argue if you thought he was, you must be dumb as fuck.

    • donscarletti

So, when you see a pretty girl working a minimum wage job, you think “how stupid, she’s earn many times as much as a whore”.

      • Beelzebub

That’s funny because I’m studying towards my HSK and am highly confident I will pass it, and I was only “Teaching English”

        • donscarletti

You’re “highly confident” that you will pass it. That’s pretty cool but I can beat it, I’m highly confident that I will write a doctoral thesis and be awarded a PhD, so you can refer to me as “Dr Donscarletti” (or in Chinese “红爷博士”) and marvel about the cleverness and willingness to apply myself that I am so highly confident that I possess.

Now I’m finished trolling, may I ask which level of HSK you’re studying?

          • Beelzebub

That is the problem, and what is wrong with being confident of something? And I wasn’t “trolling” so in the terms of the words DEMOCRACY, I choose to choose NOT to respond to your agressive and antagonistic post. I feel the need to protect my privacy on these boards more than ever, yet I also respect your privacy by not asking what you are studying. Thanks.

          • donscarletti

You cannot start a sentence with the word “And”.

You “choose to choose”? So you made the decision to make the decision not to respond to my post? What is stranger still is that you obviously _did_ respond to my post.

“Aggressive” is spelled with two “g”s by the way.

Finally I don’t have the slightest idea what you mean by “in the terms of the words DEMOCRACY”. The word democracy is only one word, making the plural a little bit unnecessary. I would have thought the word “democracy” is only a single term as well, since terms generally consist of one or more words.

What sort of English are you teaching people anyway? How can you bring so much embarrassment to other expatriates while feeling none of the embarrassment yourself?

          • Beelzebub

I choose not to choose, I teach british english, and I won’t admit I’m british either. Stop phishing for information body!!!!!

  • chandlerpatrick

Man, some of those comments are just silly. It says the kid is 22 years old. I think it’s obvious he just wants some sort of a life experience. On the flip side, Chinese people see this and think that now their is going to be a huge influx of laowai coming to work in bicycle factories…

    • ShortBusOppar

      DEY TIK OW JEBS!

      • chandlerpatrick

HAHA! I Get the reference! Goobacks!

      • takasar1

        scouse?!?!?!?!?

  • Peter Pottinger

exchange student living off parents money? there is no way the guy is buying smokes, eating out and beer without having money

    • Irvin

Bread is around 2kuai a piece, he can live off 20rmb a day for fast food(chinese style) that’s 600rmb per month, rent is about 300rmb and you can cut it in half if you share the room which is what it looks like he’s doing.

We can round it off to 1000rmb just for living expense, he still got 500rmb to spend.

      • Peter Pottinger

my biggest expense isnt bread or rent its alcohol and smokes buddy which can easily by 3x what this guy makes per month

        • biggj

          Mine was cocaine and hookers.

    • Maddy

Have you lived in China? The most expensive smokes would be 10 yuan, and from the looks of the shitty baijiu he’s drinking that would be maybe at the most 8 yuan.

  • At a quick glance, it’s just another Chinese worker that has white skin.

    • Mighty曹

Yeah, he smokes, drinks and holds chopsticks like a China man.

    • Zappa Frank

it’s just a strange disease that makes chinese people look like whites, must be due to heavy pollution

      • Shhhh…Don’t tell that to the Koreans or else they’ll abandon their whitening cream and hop over to Beijing.

  • Robin Xi

He is in China for two years, but the article doesn’t say how long is doing that job already. Maybe just a month or two or so… Definitely not those two years, that would seriously be a waste.

  • caohao

I like the banner in the background. It’s quite the warning. 今天不努力工作明天努力找工作.

    • Paul Schoe

@caohao Thanks for pointing that out. Indeed, quite a slogan ;-)

  • biggj

BREAKING NEWS!! ” American held hostage at gun point by 3 government officials and forced to work in a bicycle factory.. They also forced him ride the bikes with gear on so they could take pictures and put them on their website to get sales. He has been reunited with his family in America but plans to come back to china to teach English.

    • POS

Is that the Golden Gun from 007 on N64?

      • biggj

        It’s a golden desert eagle….these guys don’t fuck around…high rollers. haha

        • POS

Dem desert eagles be heavy, I don’t think scrawny Chinese officials have the upper body strength to actually hold one! Can’t even manage to hold their own umbrellas for god sake.

          • Mighty曹

They all need mistresses to hold up their own ‘guns’.

      • biggj

If this was a real story, all the chinese would be worried about was where he got the money to buy that gun. hahahahah

        • chandlerpatrick

And after that, they’d all want to see him fire it, just to watch his scrawny arm get ripped out by a 50cal eagle.

          • biggj

Nothing would happen. His arm is powered by pure harmony. A 50cal can’t budge Chinese harmony. hahah

          • chandlerpatrick

In fact, he actually does not need the gun, because he can just piss concentrated harmony. The story could be “Government Officials Piss Harmony on 22 Year Old American”

          • biggj

Or “Golden shower rains over capitalist.”

          • Brett

Probably the most clever play on words I’ve seen you post to date. That was a good one.

    • biggj

This story seems more realistic than the one on here. haha

    • Mighty曹

It’ll be awesome if we can post GIF’s. You’ll run with all kinds of ideas. lol

    • Mighty曹

Officials trying to talk him into not working so hard and making others look unproductive.

      • biggj

Did you get that PS working?

        • Mighty曹

I haven’t even downloaded it. I’m thinking of trying GIMP suggested by ‘PS’.

          • biggj

As long as it can put 3 officials in a picture, it’s good to go. lol

          • Mighty曹

            And they will go anywhere.

    • WoRPt

Make sure you get these guys at the Metallica concert :P

The officials theme song, “Master of puppets.”

    • Agus Dwikarna

I know this is just for the lulz (and it’s really funny), but you could do better cropping there. Have you tried magic cropping?

Anyway, I’m eagerly waiting for the next adventure of our glorious official trio.

  • biggj

I’ll pay this guy 2000rmb a month to roll me joints and run small errands for me. He can sleep in my garage and eat all he wants if he cleans up the mess. Anyone interested in the job?

    • Jen_in_NY

I’ll do it for the life experience!

      • biggj

Well, lets have an interview see if you can join my team.
        First question:
If you were a T-shirt, what color would you be and why?

        2ND question:

Do you have a pet? If so, do you speak to it? if so, does it speak back?

        3RD question:

Me , Obama and the monopoly man. You have to Fuck one, marry one, and kill one. Who would you pick?

        Last question:

As a bonus on pay day, would you like ice cream or candy?

Oh and one more thing, Can you roll a joint?

        • Jen_in_NY

          1) black, b/c your garage is filthy
          2) yes, no, yes
          3) fuck Obama, marry monopoly man, kill you
          4) candy (very dark chocolate, please)
          5) not very well, but I’m sure I can learn

          • biggj

Well everything looks good. Number 4 concerns me because I only keep white chocolate in my house…but we can work something out. I have another interview today but the guy is black…..so yeah…you’re pretty much hired. hahaha

          • Jen_in_NY

Great! I just have to give 2-week’s notice to my current employer, Ariel Castro.

          • biggj

Wow, leaving him for a job with me? I heard he actually lets you sleep in the house. I can’t offer you that much. But I will never beat you or anything….unless you mouth off. I don’t take any sass.haha

          • Jen_in_NY

Well, he’s downsizing. It wasn’t a bad gig, except for all the chaffing, obviously.

          • biggj

Well that sucks. Now this job is not on the books….I have to pay you under the table. And sometimes not all in cash. Could be food stamps, or cocaine, or half finshed bottles of vodka..could be all in 5 and 10 cent coins. It changes month to month. Oh and the cat and dog shit in the garage….so yeah…you have to deal with that.

          • Jen_in_NY

Fine, but know that within 1 week I’ll have turned the tables: You’ll be living in the garage. You’ll be cleaning and cooking and doing my laundry by hand. You’ll be begging to rub my feet. And then I’ll leave.

          • biggj

Oh baby, why you play me that? lol

          • Germandude

Dude, I think I can clearly recognize when you are posting while being stoned and when you are posting without having taken anything. I was laughing my ass off through your conversation with Jen_in_NY. Also kudos to you Jen!

          • Baphomet

Is posting while stoned something to be proud of? I will wager the OP is a cocaine user as well to boot.

          • biggj

Are you upset because I made fun of E.I benefits?

          • Agus Dwikarna

The bit about Obama and the Monopoly man is so awesomely random.

Which one being stoned here? Both of them?

          • Germandude

Both? You mean, all three! And that green little man that’s dancing in front of my desk, singing YMCA. Don’t do drugs kids.

          • biggj

Let me set the record straight here. lol I’m not some whacked out coke doing LSD tripping dude. I’ve done that shit in younger days sure. But now it all weed for me, I don’t even drink. I do love my weed though. I can’t deny that. Nothing wrong with smoking some weed and having a good laugh…even if its morning until night.

          • Germandude

I didn’t offend you at all. No need to justify anything. It’s all good. And you won’t want the seeds!

        • Baphomet

Marijuana causes paranoia, you need to knock that nasty habit on the head young fella me lad. It is only for darkies with dreadlocks and no self respecting white man should touch that rubbish.

          • biggj

I’m not paranoid at all. And I smoke weed everyday. I’d rather be a pot head than a drunk.

          • Germandude

What kind of paranoids are caused by weed? None. Because you always make sure to get enough supply.
What kind of paranoids are caused through alcohol? Many. You always wonder why the bottle is already empty and are angry that there is no bottle left in the box. And then the most problematic thing: Don’t drink and drive.

          • Germandude

LOL. Are you fucking serious? Marijuana is only for darkies with dreadlocks and no self respecting white man should touch that rubbish? Man, where did you get that shit from? Watched too much American History X and thought those guys were tough?
I think dreadlocks look cooler than boneheads.

Self-respecting white man shouldn’t touch that rubbish. Haha, wtf? And I thought I come up with a good joke now, but yours is unbeatable…

          • Baphomet

Pretty much, let’s face it, a bit unbecoming for a white dude in his 30’s to be trifling with that hippy nonsense, or maybe I got drugs out of my system during my 20’s, either way, just saying. Baldies do ok btw, look at bruce willis!

          • Germandude

I didn’t do any drugs for the last 10 years. Yet, I wonder why my skin color would make it become nonsense.

My problem with your post lies in the line of Marijuana is only for darkies with dreadlocks and no self respecting white man should touch that rubbish?”

Double-standards are for the dumb. Oh, and I don’t care if somebody is bald. As long as he doesn’t add Ranger boots with white shoe laces to his image.

          • Baphomet

Marijuana is no good my lad, will give you paranoia. No, no, as you get into your thirties best leave that nonsense to hippies and the great unwashed. Nothing wrong with boots, good for hiking, eh? Where are you now, Shanghai, rather hot isn’t it?

          • Germandude

It’s 40 degrees here. It sucks.

          • Baphomet

            Brutal in Nanjing too man.

          • Germandude

Stay home, watch moves/series and only go out during darkness. Luckily the German football league started…

          • Beelzebub

Football eh? I would suggest getting out in the evening and kicking a shuttlecock about with the locals, not only will it make you limber, it might help you find a nice chinese Gf. now am i right or am i right?

          • We had 45 degrees last week. 40 to 43 is pretty normal for Texas summer though : ( I hate it. I’m never one of those people who fool myself during the winter and say “I can’t wait for it to be summer”. I love the cold.

          • Germandude

I bet you also have 100% humdity and an air quality that is inofficially described as “hazardous” ;-)

          • The humidity at 100% yes actually haha
There’s plenty of blue sky though ; )

          • Germandude

blue sky? Never heard of that. Can you describe that please? I only heard the old people talking about it here.

          • mr.wiener

Remember, drugs are not good…..Some of them are great!!

          • Beelzebub

You are right dude, I mean y’er know, drugs are nothing NEW or ARCANE, I have been a Crack and MDMA addict, and when I mean an addict I mean using each day, and not just popping pills at weekends. I mostly got into a spiral when I was homeless and a male prostitute, but my point is, my very PERTINENT point is, these things are NOTHING new. How is the land that cannot be spoken of my dear good man?

          • mr.wiener

            ’tis well.

          • Beelzebub

Glad to hear comrade. Who knows one day we may shoot the breeze with cold beer and olive skinned beauty in each hand, and the sand in our toes.

Tell me about it. I was born in that shithole.

THATS RIGHT. I WAS BORN IN A SHITHOLE. LIKE Y’ALL DIDN’T KNOW THAT ALREADY. :-D

        • POS

Never been personally, and not planning a trip any time soon! Love our US of A but some places I’ll stick with just reading about. Although you guys pretty much decide who our president is, thats kinda scary power right there.

          • Cauffiel

I haven’t lived there since I was a young’un. It’s not really bad, its just not a cutting edge, exciting place to be, so its easy to make fun of.

But regarding its swing state status…. I was pretty miffed when they went for Obama. They deserve their rusty belt.

        • Mighty曹

If it’s not Cleveland it shouldn’t be too bad of a shithole.

There are many places in USA they are like run down towns and poor. No jobs. But the average American still live better than average chinese in China or other average people in other countries.

Now americans are living poorer than chinese with their nice mansion like and villa style apartments. The USA will collapse by 2020 surely, much like the USSR broke apart.

  • POS

There are some idiot westerners who actually PAY (own flight plus program fee) just to go to Asia and teach… This guy is probably on the unstable end of reality and wants to experience Chinese “real life”. I’ve met a few of these types.

    • biggj

HA, Yeah I seen a dude like that. His everyday clothing was like and old chinese costume…like something from 1000 years go.You know what I mean. Like a “crouching tiger hidden dragon” outfit.Like what a tool.

      • POS

Fuck I might know who you are talking about! In Kunming? Lol, actually I bet every Chinese city has a few of those.

There is aways a guy who is into kung fu movies a bit too much. lol

      • mr.wiener

I see a white guy like that sometimes in the bamboo thicket part of Da’an park. Silk PJs the works, doing Tai chi with a fan. He even has a bloody song bird with him in a cage. All the Taiwanese walk past muttering “Posser”.

        • biggj

There is always one in bunch. The fad in Canada with young asians seem to be the “Gangsta” style. Black people don’t even dress as gangster as these asians. It’s to the point it’s ridiculous. In a the age group of 15-23 maybe. Used to be white kids..I don’t see as much as I use to with the white kids. They look like Justin Beiber now.

    • chandlerpatrick

Goverments arent checking little companys because americans never work there, they are more worry about school jobs. So yes it is very possible he is on a tourist visa and were he is there isnt a all English college, so maybe this chinese is good or?….

          • WoRPt

I don’t know where you are, but I have certainly had my visa checked quite a few times. When my passport expired (due to the fact that it took longer than expected to renew), the police were at my door the day the visa was one day over.

          • biggj

Really? I’ve never had anything like that happen. I don’t even register with the police. I come to china, get a 6 month lease on a apartment and do whatever the fuck I want.

Where are you from? And are you black? I know that sounds funny, but it might have something to do with it.

          • WoRPt

Nope, British/Canadian (born in one, lived most my life in the other). I think you hit the nail on the head with “I don’t even register with the police.” I do, because whenever I need my visa renewed, they need the police registration. Not sure how you get yours done.

          • biggj

I leave before the visa expires. I had to do it once though. I got an extension and I just went to the police after 6 months. They just did it for me. Never got in trouble or anything. Took like 5 minutes. Where I stay in china is just some hick town. The police don’t really give a fuck.

I do get registered though, because when I come to china the first week I stay in a hotel, and I think they register for you. But when I move to my apartment I don’t register.

          • WoRPt

Ah, I’m on the resident visa. Don’t have to leave the country and it’s good for as long as my current contract.

          • Baphomet

You have to register with the police, much like when you stay at a hotel. It is all on the back of the arrival card, 24 hours for urban areas, 72 hours for rural areas, IIRC

          • biggj

Hotels do it for you automatic….if it’s a hotel that can take foreigners. But I don’t when I move to my apartment. I have once when I renewed my visa and I was 6 months late doing it. They never gave a shit. Just like working on tourist visas and fake work visas…not suppose to do it, but people do it all the time. And if did cause some trouble…slide them a few rmb and that will take care of it.

          • Beelzebub

The apartment is meant for you to do it. They say for safety which is fair enough, but actually if you don’t, it is breaking the law, it is what it is. It states it quite clearly on the arrival card, well at least in Shenzhen it does.

          • Beelzebub

Guy actually got fined 10000 rmb for overstaying, things are changing, not wise to try that stuff these days.

          • biggj

So why do you illegally work in china? might not be wise to do such things these days.

          • Beelzebub

Did I say I was, reread, REREAD, it was an american guy, its all on google is your friend, where did I say I illegally work in China, I am not even in China right now, but I will not say where, as you are phishing for information, and my privacy, like yours, is my right! End of story body!!!!

          • biggj

it’s alright man, i dont care. Every foreigner I know in china does the same thing….well 90% of them.

          • What did you plan to do with his information?
I knew we couldn’t trust you.
            NSA scum.

          • biggj

I only bust illegal foreigner workers on my spare time. I’ve just located snowden location. He wants us to believe he is in Russia, but really he is in a remote area of Vietnam. My team moves in tomorrow to finally end this man’s reign of terror on the free world. But once he has been captured we will use this mans imagine to spread our own lies throughout the world. We will make like he is still on the run. When in fact all the information he will leak in the future will be of our own design…So by listing to him…you will be listening to us. All of you are sheep!!

          • Beelzebub

So you admit it, you are a hatchet man for the NSA!!! I knew it, hope your north american union is safer! And piss off body!!!

          • Beelzebub

He is phishing, do not trust him, he wants you to reveal information, he can use against you for his personal gain, whatever his agenda is. I have reported him to the mods, but no action has been taken as yet!

          • Maybe he is the moderator? Maybe all of these accounts are actually biggj, and it’s all an elaborate scheme to steal your information. Have you ever seen any of us comment at the exact same time? Nope…must be one man handling all of these accounts…::dramatic chord::

          • Beelzebub

He could be, these boards exist for sound financial reasons.

          • biggj

Web sites like these are sponsored by the Chinese government to spy on what foreigners are saying about china. The one thing Chinese government likes more than money…is it’s harmony.

          • biggj

HA, I’m like the dog in this picture….you are the sheep. But who would ever belief you…

          • biggj

You know at anytime the government can find out exactly where you are and all information about you right? Why would I need to make you reveal anything? Everything is already revealed. You own at least tracking device. That is all they need. If you have a bank account, cellphone, computer, fingerprints, hair…then they already know all about you. There are a lot more things I just don’t feel like writing 100’s of pages.

          • Beelzebub

I don’t own any of that apple crap, nor do I even own a mobile phone.

          • Beelzebub

Not every foreigner, and you should care, in light of the new laws. Clearly you are not updated on the status quo!

          • Mighty曹

The updates solved the mystery. But you made a good point.

      • Brett

What do you mean by “real story”? You mean the” real” date the story was published or the “original fake story”? Because this whole store shouts publicity stunt. There isn’t a real thing about it.

you just need to ask simple questions like “what visa does he possess?”

Those small-time employers don’t have permits to offer visas because there is enough cheap labor in China to begin with. He wouldn’t be on his school visa because that would mean he’d have to be attending school, or at least paying for it. And he wouldn’t have overstayed his visa and agree to an interview with pictures; that’s a good way to get oneself deported.

The guy probably worked there for a few days or weeks to learn about manufacturing processes or something to the degree. Or someone just took some pictures of him doing random shit for fun.

    • slob

CS really needs to do some background checks on these stories…

“I noticed the way he holds his smokes, and how he drinks baijiu, just like a common Chinese man!”
He holds it like any fucking man holding a cigarette and alcohol, Jesus H Christ.

      • biggj

        All the proof I need.

        • Cj

Maybe it comes with the job, many low paying comapnys gives americans we call perks or extras.

      • Kai

Read the translated Chinese netizen comments.

      • Zappa Frank

like any fucking man and even some chimpanzee

    • Marcus Black

I am getting really tired of your inferiority complex Chinese people. You all have the same slavish mentality like black people.

      • Mighty曹

Welcome black. I mean, back. So you weren’t kidding about Marcus being away for a while.

      • Marcus Black

        @ Justice
Nope. I am a black dude myself who would probably be called an uncle tom or a sellout for not subscribing to the general slavish mentality and dysfunctionally antisocial behaviour amongst the larger majority of black people.

        • Nilerafter24

By black people you’re referring to “African Americans” I’m assuming? Because I’m pretty sure the majority of black people in this world are Africans, of whom you don’t seem to have any connection whatsoever to.
When you make such a broad generalization, your point ends up sounding ignorant.
So for future clarity, be more specific in whom your bias is directed towards.

          • Marcus Black

I am African you idiot. When i refer to black i am talking about all people of African decent and even those who aren’t. Its the same damn issues. Every country you look at black people are at the bottom of the food chain. Name me one fucking country where black people aren’t. Yea i thought so. Take a sit boy.

I have lived in many cultures so I know the lives of blacks in Africa and Europe. For African Americans its pretty obvious. All you need to do is go on youtube or wshh to learn about their dysfunctional culture. No point denying this because its fact. I even dislike my own family who are in Africa because of their slavish mentality and religious sentiment. They don’t even fucking know how Islam got to Africa. It seems when black people get old they don’t get wise. They carry their fucking dysfunctional thinking into old age. I have no respect for such people no matter how old they are. Are you that much of an idiot for me to point out obvious things such as “when people say black people in a discussion they’re saying the majority of black people with African descent not every damn black person in the world”. You’re expected to know this.

          • biggj

Rise and overcome. It’s not all black people fault…it’s a 2 way street. Blacks act like that because of how the world treats them. It’s like a fat man is unhappy because he eats and eats because he is unhappy.

          • rollin wit 9’s

            It’s a 2-way street but the sign reads ‘One-way’ !

          • Robert Rou

“Every country you look at black people are at the bottom of the food
chain. Name me one fucking country where black people aren’t.”

The troll is hard on this one. I don’t think many people have to look hard for black people that *aren’t* at the bottom of the food chain. Take the president of a certain country for example.

          • Marcus Black

Obama is not what you would call “black”. He’s biracial. He was raised by his white mom and grandmom. He grew up a white guy and had mostly white friends. He’s basically a black-faced white guy. He probably sleeps white at night too. Once again you need me to state the obvious. The “larger majority” of black people in black communities around the world live in poverty. This is not something I am making up. It’s fact. No point blaming slavery, racism or white people because that has got black people no where.

          • mwanafa

You got it all wrong on this Marcus, Just few days ago Obama said he could hear clicks of the car locks, and people moving to the other side of the road when they saw him when he was young. Now even Chinese people says he was elected because he is not so black, now that’s racism you are heading to mate, because you are almost at the same position as that Chinese guy who said that. When you talk about slavery mentality, it’s a very complicated matter, not just you can make up your mind up not to be in and that’s it. I never understood this subject about apartheid and racism, not even talking about slavery. Even now in this century people are being slaved, and that includes Whites, Yellow, Black, Whatever it is you can add.
Blacks can be a good example because they accepted that they were enslaved and they fought for it. The whole world knows, but who knows about others?

          • mr.wiener

            How do you sleep white?

          • biggj

He does, before he goes to bed he washes the chicken grease off his hands and the kool aid stains from the sides of his mouth. lol And has dreams about hockey and country music.

          • mr.wiener

Sounds complicated. If I’m white , how do I sleep black?

          • biggj

Don’t wash the grease off your hands or the kool-air from your mouth. And try to have dreams about shinny rims and getting all your child support paid….oh and bitch ass hoes…and ho ass bitches.

          • Marcus Black

            It’s a figure of speech.

          • Beelzebub

            No indonesian in him?

          • Marcus Black

I just know he’s not someone you would call black. I don’t really care to find out what he really is.

          • Tapan

What about the Asians who are as poor as you. They are not as black as Africans but still black Asians as seen by many Chinese

          • Marcus Black

Even these “poor” Asians look down on black Africans and African Americans. Chinese respect anyone who can outsmart and capture their land like the British did. They will hate but still respect you. This is why blacks are looked down on. What have we conquered? Absolutely nothing.

African Americans are too corrupted by the degenerate hip hop culture while Africans are highly divided and superstitious. This is what is holding back the progress of “black” lead countries. If I could give my life to unite damn Africans I happily would. The damn continent has so much potential with all the resources it holds. Sadly Africans are to stupid to realise they are being left behind by the rest of the world. I went a bit off topic there but I had to get that off my chest.

          • Jeffrey Jones

Sadly, you are totally right. It is this essence of “qing yuan ra ping” or bully the meek, but be afraid of the powerful that is totally wrong. Poor asian looks down on black, but looks up to white who lords it over them. It will never change.

          • Jeffrey Jones

Bono tried didnt he? Wonder if he is still on his soapbox. How much cohesion does the AU have in all seriousness?

          • Marcus Black

The AU is an organisation full of the same slavish chieftain type of individuals that helped sold slaves to Europeans and facilitate the exploitation of their fellow Africans. It’s a proxy organisation used to hide modern day exploitation of the African continent. Why enslave individual countries in Africa when you can make them all join an organisation so they feel they are in control and are progressing. When in reality its controlled by the same Europeans that continue to exploit Africa. It’s like how the UN is used by America and Europe to isolate and destroy countries that refuse to bow down to them. It’s a modern approach to empire building. But your average African is happy to receive a wage even if his/her job involves the suffering of his comrades.

          • Jeffrey Jones

Why enslave individual countries in Africa when you can make them all
join an organisation so they feel they are in control and are
            progressing.

Sounds like the new world order? Problem is unions never last or work well. USSR, broke apart. EU is very divided. You make a good point.

          • Justin

Exceptions don’t prove the rule though. America may have a black president, but the prisons still gotta lot of black residents. I should rap.

          • rollin wit 9’s

i was gonna say Cuba cuz every1 there is black but some are richer than others so technically you can’t say the blacks are at the bottom of the food chain there.

          • Tapan

            Ha ha

          • dalin

            Marcus Black

being open and truthful about black dysfunctionality is refreshing but i dont think you have been bitterly abrasive when discussing it.

and in my knowledge bahamas and barbados would pass as countries where black people aren’t at the bottom of the food chain.

          • Meadows-Choi

Ffirst off you sound like an elitist uncle Tom. Next you obviously know nothing of African Americans. They are a significant group with a long history of fighting for the rights and the rights of other minorities in the US.

          • biggj

And smoking crack and getting thrown into prison. And going on talk shows to find out “who the baby daddy is”. haha

          • Beelzebub

White people smoke CRACK too, I have had a crack habit when I was homeless and fell in with the wrong crowd, cocaine/crack, these are not just black drugs. Clooney was reputed to be a massive caner back in the day, who knows, probably still is, as was Robbie Williams, the world would REEL if they knew the famous white people who have and still are, users and abusers of the white powder and the crack pipe, paul van dyk is a massive caner despite his anti drug rhetoric…the ones most vocal against it, often do it to excess, believe me, I worked as a VJ, you see it all backstage and often being done blatantly, not furtively

          • Beelzebub

I meant robin williams the comedian, but yes, Robbie williams the singer was known for it, although perhaps not know though

          • biggj

But weed is strictly a black guy with dreadlocks things right?

          • Beelzebub

Perhaps, but I’d say cocaine , sniff, is far more prevalent. Weed is for the great unwashed in their eyes, hahaha, and blacks

          • biggj

I never said white people don’t smoke crack,

          • Beelzebub

Fair enough, it is an evil drug, but so addictive, a guy I knew robbed a post office in his village such was his desperation, easy to get into the VICIOUS trap of it. But right now I am steaming I am TELLING you, record heat in east China, 41 degrees today, the suntory beer is slipping down mighty fine, replace crack with alcohol and you get my meaning, a bottomless PIT of a STOMACH for all things alcoholic, by god, I am SAILING tonight!

          • Beelzebub

who was the cock sucker who down voted this, not one anti black comment in that post at all, I hope you fall in a sewage drain through an open manhole and get washed away and drown!

          • Marcus Black

You’re just trying to shift the blame once again. The most dangerous thing to the African American community is itself.

          • Beelzebub

is that your photo, very beautiful

          • Meadows-Choi

            Yes.. thank you ..

          • Beelzebub

            welcome

          • Tapan

As far as I knew, we had one uncle tom. Do we expect another Brother Tom emerging………… bullying around Asia

          • Guest

Dude, I’m African but, unlike you, I don’t suffer from self-hate and a “slavish” mentality. FYI, Africans have the _highest_ educational attainment in the U.S. and are some of the hardest working people on Earth. I too have lived around the world so put up facts or put a sock in your slavishness, “you idiot.”

          • Marcus Black

You still haven’t refuted my arguments. You’re using ad hominem attacks and petty insults. Take a look at Africa and see how dysfunctional it is. Look at the Chinese illegal gold miners raping Ghana of its gold and shooting up villages. It seems you are unable to see the facts.

You’re too emotional to comprehend the backwardness of Africa. Continue to live in your little bubble. When the Chinese are done with you, you will loose the only thing that would make it possible for Africa to step out of the stone ages. You’re so smart and hard working that you allow Chinese people to pull the same fucking wool over your eyes like the Europeans. You happily smile and help them mine you’re fucking resources. That’s not slavish mentality. Nooo. That’s must be something else. What’s more insulting is that the Chinese use the resources they get from Africa to make goods that they sell back to Africans. They take the best of your women and treat you like criminals when you go to their country. Hahaha. You know what I am not going to bother. You aren’t ready to face the bad news. Live in blissful denial. You’re politicians and foreigners will continue to con you until you have no more resources left to have a chance at rising. At that time it’s back to physical slavery. You’re already mentally slaves so that part is done.

          • Stop Lying

He is a troll or a male with an inferiority complex. People like him like to diminish the prosperity blacks have achieved to make themselves feel better. He should have been abandoned at birth.

          • Tapan

            Excellent response buddy

          • mwanafa

Black people for sure is a broad generalization, my schoolmates PNG’s, Carribeans, sri lankans, just to name a few, had a very hard time explaining to other people why they are not Africans.

        • Stop Lying

Shut the hell up, you sound retarded and I bet you’re not even black. Black people are not at the bottom of the food chain in every country, you must not know of the Roma gypsy people, the poor treatment of Tibetans, the poor treatment of Natives around the world, and etc. Blacks have done many great things, for example in America it’s black immigrants who hold the highest rate of attaining graduate degrees. There are problems in every group, and for you to go so hard at only blacks is sign of an obsessed, racist white male or yet another black male with low self-esteem.

          • Marcus Black

Once again you use deflection. “Well white people do it too” type of nonsense. I am wasting my time.

      • who so many chinks?

It’s true. Slaughter those chinks and bar them off your country. They are nothing but troubles.

    • donscarletti

Chinese don’t get why some upper-middle class American kid wants to work in a factory to show how “real” he’s willing to get. In fact, most Americans don’t really get it either.

  • Mighty曹

He thought he was going to be Justin Bieber in China. Too bad there weren’t many Beliebers.

  • Alexander

Who doesn’t love fake made-up stories?

    • biggj

      I love em.

      • Cauffiel

        I fake love’em.

        • biggj

          That’s what she said. haha

  • Sum Ting Wong

The person in the story resembles to this friend of mine here:

    This story is fake

    • biggj

And someone down votes it…hahaha It does look just like him though.

    • Mighty曹

Nah, this dude looks more Middle Eastern.

      • Taoran

They guy in the video claims to be from Zürich, which is where I’m from. Whatever he may or may not look like, his accent indicates that he’s telling the truth about his origin. You only get that Swiss-German accent from living in Switzerland for MANY years.

        • Mighty曹

I was just saying this guy has a MidEastern look. He could’ve been born there and speak like a native. Much like Nigerians born in France.

          • Ami

..that would make him and said “nigerians” Swiss and French respectively.
just as chinese-americans are still americans and so are arab-swiss people.

    • Cauffiel

Your handle is also a great headline for your post!

    • Eddie Spaghetti

Nice catch. “I’m 25, from Switziterland…” wtf!? Who is this guy?

  • YourSupremeCommander

Young, white, American… makes a living at a factory assembly line in China. His parents must be so proud.

    • Cauffiel

That’s not cool man…. his parents both died in 9/11. You should really think before you make some stupid fucking comment like that, asshole.

      • YourSupremeCommander

post the link or shut your traps.

        • Cauffiel

sure, dude…. their obituary is posted at lemonparty.com :-D

          • YourSupremeCommander

LOL, exactly, fuck off. I apologize for my American language.

          • Cauffiel

            :-D Just fuckin’ around.

I got in a bit of trouble a few days ago making a “your mom” joke and the girl’s mom had been decapitated in a car accident a year earlier, so, I kind of hated myself for the rest of the day.

    • biggj

Man “what does your son do???”

Mom “Oh, he works in a bicycle factory in china for 300 bucks a month.”

Man “hmmm. Well….so the weather has been nice eh?.”

      • Cauffiel

He’s just working his way up to that factory in Mexico.

        • biggj

One day my boy is gonna play in big leagues. haha

          • mr.wiener

He’s going to be a big wheel.

    • mr.wiener

He was probably told by his parents “you have to stand out in life”.
Can’t do that better than being the only white guy in a Chinese bicycle factory.

  • YourSupremeCommander

If he’s got ANY sort of braincells he would be chilling like a mac daddy in Shanghai or Beijing.

    • biggj

He’s not a sell out like all the English teachers. He’s keeping it real. lol

      • Cauffiel

It’s all about the Mao Zedongs, baby…. in this case, the green ones.

        • biggj

          more like this.

          • Cauffiel

Remember when a liter of gas used to cost wu mao?

          • mwanafa

Now I understand the “wu mao” concept. 0.5 yuan=A liter of gas=jiaoyou!

  • Repatriated

I wonder what kind of visa he is on?

  • YourSupremeCommander

Man, I would love to sleep that first hotel test sleeper.

    • Cauffiel

Ha…. I clicked that too. She looks better in the thumbnail.

  • Michael Jia

Looks like an average joe working and eating. He has been in China for two years, that’s some novelty experience he is going for.

  • markus peg

Is his working visa real? why would a company pay for his working visa to do the same job any Chinese person can? Maybe its just another indirect advert…

EDIT: The story says he came to China two years ago not that he started working 2 years ago..

    • biggj

Prove what to a girl? He is already white, what more does she want!!

      • MeCampbell30

        LOL!

    • Maybe it’s the factory owner’s daughter?

  • I know people do things just for experience, but who really wants to experience a Chinese electric bicycle factory? I would have become a taxi driver or maybe work on one of those giant barges that carry coal or whatever up and down the rivers.

    • Archie

And in 5 years time when he owns an electric bike brand that is taking the states by storm, everyone will be asking how he did it.

      • biggj

You mean when he gets deported for illegally working in china and has to go back to America and work at McDonalds and live in his mom’s basement and riding his chinese bike to work. Everyone will ask how he did it. hahaah

  • Cv

Its guys like this that make americans look like low lifes, he is stupid. Why is he not teaching? He must not have college degree.
    Young, stupid, american.

Why do you need a collage degree? Just photoshop one together. 4 year and 100,000$ later….or 5 minutes and 2 cent piece of paper. To achieve the same thing.

Note: This only works in shitty countries haha

      • YourSupremeCommander

Exactly. When was the last time your employer actually called up your college, your references, your previous jobs to see if your are telling truth?

I just say one thing in job interviews: I graduated from Ching Hua and then got my PhD from Harvard. BAM, and I will be told to report to my corner office the next day at 9:00 AM.

        • biggj

I just say “If you don’t hire me, im going to burn this mother fucker to the ground you geriatric fuck!!!”

It’s only worked once…when I was an English teacher….Being white was the only requirement….sanity was optional.

          • Cauffiel

First year teaching interview: Hello, welcome, sit down. Would you like a cigarette? When can you start?

Second year teaching interview: Describe your teaching philosophy. If a student has trouble, what do you do? What are some strategies you use in the classroom? (asked by girl who also hired a guy who accused his whole class of being the devil, and that God would tell him which students belonged to Satan.)

Third year teaching interview: Hello. Your voice is very nice. When does your visa expire? Good. Do you have any questions about the job?

There you have it. Your futures in plain sight. As China becomes wealthy and powerful you will be assimilated to service the Chinese state.

If this story is indeed real, I would a start organizing a union so he can be the union rep UFC-256 . Become their messiah, the new Mao or Lenin. A white working class hero lead the serfdom into a brighter tomorrow. Long live the revolution!!

Anyways, reminds when I was 20 and worked in a hotel, I tried to organize a union so I could get fired and collect unemployment insurance benefits and spend the summer ripping it up on my skate, dude.

If I was his age I would be in Shanghai clubs shagging girls, skating the SMP skate park(have you seen it? Freaking amazing!) and teaching part time to cover my expenses. I wouldn’t be wasting the best years of my life in a Chinese factory. If you want to learn Chinese, find a Chinese girlfriend.

Spoken like a true opportunist, right?

    There’s a lot more to this story…

I just bought pot off of this guy last weekend. 1500/month my ass!

  • hdpetersson

With 15% annual salary increase he would make about 2,300 in 2013 (the article is from 2009). This seems about right compared to what we pay for our blue collar workers in Tianjin.

  • Cj

Low life american, maybe theres more info on this guy we dont know about maybe he is a child melester or broke the law and running away from USA or just a loser and stupid.
Even for my Chinese friends non of them will have a low paying job like this. Even MC pays more. Hahahah.
This another american making yet again making americans look bad or stupid and puts smiles and laughs on Chinese faces hahahah….

    • KAMIKAZIPILOT

If he’s a low life American what does that make the millions of Chinese who work in factories similar to where he’s working? Winners? Whenever I go to China just looking at daily life there puts a smile on my face and generates a laugh from me, hahaha.

    Fake fake fake

Else we will hear about him being deported since there is no fucking way he has a work visa.

  • linette lee

For real? He is a good looking guy. Clear skin, big eyes and straight nose. Better looking than many hollywood male celebrities. The 13th photo is nicest.

1500 yuan is like $245 usd monthly right. How many hours does he work per month? The usa minimum wage is $7.25 hourly now right? The cost of living is higher in Ohio I am sure. Don’t know why he is doing that. Definitely for fun.

    • Cauffiel

There is a federal minimum wage, but many states mandate higher minimum wages.

  • 剑胆琴心

guess he did something bad, usa not allow him to get back in several years.
i heard some foreign guys in the same situation in shanghai.
no degree, so even can not be english teacher.dare not to go to big city, also some safety problem i guess.
but at least he is not some lazy ass or sissy, or he can find a rich woman for money,or do some cheesy job in bar or ktv to entertain chinese.

  • Gordon Gogodancer

I’m really curious about what this guy’s purpose is? Says he wants to learn Chinese faster? I don’t believe that because he’s working 8 hours a day and probably isn’t covering a lot of vocab with his colleagues. If his purpose was to learn Chinese he would just buy a class book and practice by himself after teaching an hour or two of English a day in order to survive ( i mean 1500yuan for 8 hours shifts? you can spend 8 hours teaching English a month and get the same amount and then you’ll have all the time in the world to study Chinese)
Now the fact that he thinks himself as being Chinese tends to make me think that he was just a bit to optimistic about going on a crasy adventure in the wonderland China that he saw in movies to understand the local “culture” and learn Chinese….i think this guy just made a stupid mistake and then his got this prick Chinese guy posting his face all over the Chinese web so that all the small dicks can pretend that “it’s nothing unusual that a white man works in a Chinese factory, what’s all the fuss about?” lol
While studying Chinese i met a lot of these I Wanna Be Chinese types…i was a fanatic myself but thankfully i was not that silly….poor idiots.

  • jabberfucky

how has he even got a work permit for a job at this level? Publicity stunt methinks.

  • Cromson

I had 2000 RMB/month my first two years in China, the second year i had to provide for my chinese wife and newborn daughter. Taught me a lot about the life of the normal citizen here, handling money and to be satisfied with what we had.

    • biggj

      Are you black or Indian?

      • Cromson

Are you a tiny bit stupid?

        • biggj

What white person would ever get paid 2000rmb a month? I know of Indians and blacks that get paid that. But a white person…not even a Russian who can’t even speak English gets paid that. No offense or anything. What kind of job was it?

          • Cromson

A little shortsighted i think… what does it have to do with black, white, yellow… I can say that i’m well educated with three different completed vocational trainings. I came here because love and i still work in the same company, got up the ladder. In my homecountry i could have make a lot more money these years… but it’s not all about the money! I’m happy and my little family here also is. ;) I never worked as a “teacher” here, i’m in QC and import/export.

          • biggj

In china it has a lot to do with black, white or yellow. You should know that. With any job. What country are you from if you don’t mind me asking?

          • Cromson

I know that, but it does not mean that i have to think the same way. The experiences i made in these years, you can’t buy for money. My GF (now wife) did work and i did not want to sit at home, spending my savings. But i also was never doing a “monkeyshow” or the “we hire a foreigner, have to do nothing… just be there”. I did not say, that i would work for 2000 RMB/month for many years. But i learnt to speak chinese (only chinese colleagues), made friends and can understand the workers (culture) much more better than any expat-guy who lives in his compound and know how to say 你好 and 谢谢 ever will do。

I had foreign friends who were doing teaching-jobs for like 5000 – 7000 RMB/month. They even weren’t native speakers. So you can guess what crap they did teach the kids here. That wasn’t for me and i had a lot of requests within all these years.

  • Justin

What a scrub. Does he not know how to speak English at a high school/middle school level? That’s basically the only qualification one needs to make 10,000 yuan a month teaching English. Oh wait, maybe he was educated at an American public school. That explains it. (Full disclosure: I was educated in an American public school and I’m literate, so don’t get irate fellow ‘mericans. It’s a joke.)

  • Untrue Story

This is fake news, pictures were from 2008 as part of a advertisement campaign for aima, the brand of these electro bikes. No foreigner has ever worked in a factory like this. This has to be taken down immediately. This is severe personality infringement and this website and the source of this will have face a lawsuit! Chinese and now even Foreign websites spread fake news without doing research, it’s not right.

haha, the guy’s not even an american

      • Kai

Quick translation for those who can’t read Chinese:

Aima Electrict Bicycle Factory Manager Jiang Yanwen says: “Our factory indeed doesn’t have this American, he’s a print model hired by the advertising company.” Manager Jiang says from the day before yesterday, the company has received countless calls from media throughout the country asking about the American and only then did he go online and see that post, which flabberghasted him.

Manager Jiang says: “That foreigner is indeed called Ke Luo, but he’s Swiss, is studying Chinese in a Chinese college, is a professional model. He came to our company to be photographed for an advertisement of our new electric bicycle model and had worn a work uniform to the workshop to experience it, never imagining the entire thing to have been photographed by a worker who also said he was a blue collar worker at our factory. We’re very afraid of Ke Luo’s managing company taking us to court because of employees continuously making posts on the internet.

The original article says it was a recent graduate working in the management department who had taken the photos while playing host to Ke Luo. Apparently the guy “likes going online” and while looking at the photos he took on his computer, he decided he’d fabricate the above story given the world financial crisis at the time (2008), which subsequently spread as certain things do online. He apparently feels bad about it.

Oh sorry, when I first saw your comment, the image didn’t load, so I didn’t know what you were referring to. LoL, that’s a pretty dramatic advertisement for an ebike. WINGS YO.

a model!? this is even more incredible than the story of the american worker in china…

  • Jack Black

This is fake news and has to be taken down.

    http://bbs.hlgnet.com/info/u21_16004854/

In this article it is already described as fake news (in chinese) he was actually just doing a modelling job for the electro bike and they ask him if he could wear the workers jacket and shoot some pictures for fun because they never had a foreigner there.

    • moop

demand it gets taken down at the original site, chinasmack just translates popular stories online… they should probably add a note or something to this story though here just to clear up things. go to netease and tell them to take it down

      • moop

or do what i am going to do: post a link to the real article on netease and call them all a bunch of 脑残

    • Cauffiel

It doesn’t have to be taken down because the news story is not the news story, the way Chinese netizens react to this news story is the news story, and that is not fake.

You’ll never fail like common people

You’ll never watch your life slide out of view

Sing along with the common people
Sing along and it might just get you thru’
Laugh along with the common people
Laugh along even though they’re laughing at you
And the stupid things that you do.

Because you think that poor is cool.

    • Cauffiel

      SJM…. you’re such a has been. ;-)

  • Mighty曹

Instead of adding a disclaimer “Story is misrepresented as actual” ChinaSMACK simply put a blur block on the model’s face. Quick and simple!

    • YourSupremeCommander

I am sure the mods got a threatening letter yesterday and they shit their diapers.

      • Mighty曹

Most legit news sites would have fired the editors in charge of the news story. Let some heads roll!

      • biggj

Probably from the guy in the picture. He’s having a hard time getting laid because all the girls thinks he works in bike factory and makes 1500rmb a month. He’s down to fucking 4 girls a month….this is unacceptable for a white guy in china.

        • Mighty曹

lmao! And now he can’t find work at home in Switzerland. It’s like posing for Wal-Mart and then trying to model for Neiman Marcus.

          • biggj

Oh yeah he’s fucked. What model would agree to have their picture taken in some shitty chinese dorm or actually working on the production line? I don’t think he’s a “model”..he just some white guy they found. If this guy is a model, then every white guy in china can be a model.Well….most of them could be if you go by this standard.

          • Mighty曹

Hahaha… and you said I was ‘ice cold’.

          • He’s not thatttttt good looking. Sheesh.

  • TJDubs

What’s the deal with the blurring of his face? The blurring only shows up on ChinaSmack. If I view the story in my RSS aggregator, I can see his laowai face, raw and uncensored.

    • Mighty曹

It wasn’t blurred until a few hours ago.

      • TJDubs

Maybe the guy filed a complaint after someone recognized and notified him? And cS agreed to (ineffectively) blur his face?

        • Mighty曹

          Hahahaha…”ineffectively”.

    • biggj

hahahah.” I can see his laowai face, raw and uncensored.”

      • Mighty曹

That has a pornographic tone to it.

  • Feiyang Su

it’s not like people saying that he can’t find a job in America , I think he has his own reason , think about it, people who works in mcdonald’s the mini wage is $7.25 an hour that equals = 47 RMB an hour !! way more than work in China !!

    • Harold Janson

The difference being of course, that $7.25 will never be actual full time, it will be 30 hours at most, and even if it was full time, it’s impossible to live on.

  • Foreign Devil

this story is B.S. . . the guy would be kicked out of China shortly after it is published. . because there is no way an employer could get a foreigner a z work visa for assembling bicycles. .something any Chinese peasent could do.

  • Mop

So his face is censored now huh?

  • Marcus Muller

The censors made him look like a model.. But as soon as I clicked on the original article.. WUT? He’s a model?!

  • Gordon Gogodancer

what’s the point of covering his face now…everybody in China knows his face

  • DavidisDawei

With the face blocked out…you can’t tell who he is…
    his mannerisms look very Chinese

  • Quinon

Curious as to why the chinaSMACK editor thinks his privacy is a concern here. He himself sought the public limelight with a deceptive article when he thought it was convenient, and willingly cast away any “private” quality these photographs had. Why should the photographs suddenly become private again now that he has been outed as a liar?

    • Kai

The photos were taken by someone else (a company employee), then posted online without the permission of the guy featured in the photos, with a fabricated story attached to it.

The privacy concern is that while his identity is not exactly revealed even in the fabricated story (for example, he’s not American but Swiss), his face and likeness is still identifiable and wrongly associated with what the perpetrator admitted to be false information.

The model doesn’t want people to mistake him for the fabrication, which is a reasonable desire, so we’ve simply blurred out his face making it unrecognizable. This way, the story of how easy information can proliferate and reemerge on the internet (as well as the reactions/opinions of people beholding that fake information) remains intact, but the personal effect on the victim is minimized.
