State Council Seeks Public Opinion: Plan to Change Teachers’ Day to September 28th Birthday of Confucius

Morning Post (reporter Zhang Lu) — The September 10th “Teachers’ Day” that has been observed for 29 years may henceforth be changed to another day. The Legislative Affairs Office of the State Council announced yesterday a “Revision Package to Education Laws Draft (Soliciting Public Opinion Draft)” amending and revising relevant clauses in Education Law, Higher Education Law, Teachers Law, and the Law on Promotion of Privately-run Schools. The draft plans to make September 28th every year Teachers’ Day. as well as adding qualification requirements for the position of school principals as well as a series of important items on issues such improving the status of private schools.

On 1985 January 21, the Ninth Meeting of the Sixth NPC Standing Committee passed the “Decision Regarding Teachers’ Day” and decided that September 10th of each year would be Teachers’ Day. On September 10th of that year, grand celebrations were held throughout the country to welcome the first Teachers’ Day in New China, and Li Xiannian, the president of China at the time, issued “A Letter to Teachers Nationwide”. 29 years have passed and though a series of profession-related holidays like Journalists’ Day and Nurses’ Day appeared later on, for our fellow countrymen, Teachers’ Day has the most influence.

The call for changing the date of Teachers’ Day has a long history, with large-scale campaigns beginning since 2004. One of the CPPCC [Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference] members of that time, Li Hanqiu, appealed that Teachers’ Day should be a day of deep cultural connotation and extends age-old historical tradition, suggesting that the birthday of Confucius be set as Teachers’ Day. Through research and calculations, Confucius was born on 551 BC September 28. In fact, Teachers’ Day is on September 28 in our country’s Taiwan.

In actual practice, September 10 happens to be at the beginning of a new semester, so teachers are usually very busy with all kinds of work for the new semester and barely have the time and mood to enjoy this holiday. If Teachers’ Day is changed to the end of the month, it can go along with Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day, which will be more convenient for teachers.

Controversy on the birthday of Confucius

This reporter learned that all large-scale celebrations of Confucius’ birthday are currently on September 28.

However, the article “Particular Research on the Birth Year and Date of Confucius” on Guoxue Net punished by Liberal Arts College of Liaoning University professor Bi Baokui shows a lack of evidence for having September 28 as the birthday of Confucius. According to written records, it can be confirmed that Confucius was born on 552 BC October 9, and other versions should be abandoned. In the article, he mentioned that after we stepped into the Republic of China era [1912-1949], the first celebration of Confucius was held on 1913 September 28, which led later generations to think this day was Confucius’s birthday.

Why set September 10 as Teachers’ Day?

Here, we must mention the historical background for why September 10th was set as Teachers’ Day at the time. At the beginning of the 1980s, the social status and position of intellectuals was raising, but many teachers still had deep psychological trauma with regards to their status as [one of the] “Stinking Old Ninth” in the past. At the end of 1984, the earliest progenitor of Teachers’ Day and Chinese Academy of Sciences academician Wang Zikun came across the idea that teachers ought to have their own holiday. Afterwards, he told Beijing Evening News this idea on December 9. The next day, Beijing Evening News published an article called “President Wang Zikun Proposes Month Celebrating Teachers and Education”, which brought forth a great reaction among readers. On December 15, Beijing Normal University [professors and teachers] Zhong jingwen, Qi Gong, Wang Zikun, Tao Dayong, Zhu Zhixian, Huang Ji, Zhao Qinghuan jointly and officially proposed establishing a Teachers’ Day. 1985 January 21, the Ninth Meeting of the Sixth NPC Standing Committee passed the decision and established September 10th of each year as Teachers’ Day.

I am a teacher, I propose canceling [Teachers’ Day].

手机用户 [湖北武汉]:

I strongly urge canceling Teachers’ Day! It’s a hotbed that breeds corruption!

法与理2013 [河南许昌]:

If a country doesn’t have a minimum amount of respect for education and teachers, then the future of this country will certainly be a bleak one; if a people don’t have a minimum amount of respect for education and teachers, then this people are not far from the end… [泪]

手机用户 [四川成都]:

Abolish Teachers’ Day. Teachers these days don’t practice morality.

陈昌凤 [北京]:

I also support [the change]!

手机用户 [山西太原]:

Nowadays, the quality of teachers has changed, they twist students’ souls. It’s time for them to reflect. Teachers’ Day became an excuse for them to accumulate wealth. Better cancel it fast.

手机用户 [四川成都]:

If there is Teachers’ Day, we should also have Farmers’ Day, Workers’ Day, Doctors’ Day, and Parents’ Day… All existing professions should have their own holidays, as they are all contributing their lives to the development of society.

手机用户 [浙江杭州]:

A day where parents must think about giving gifts to teachers, and even kindergartens have this trend, ack!

手机用户 [江苏无锡]:

It’s just a change of date, with no inherent improvement to the treatment and status of teachers. Those who have been teachers all know that very few actually experience the phenomenon of receiving gifts as rumored throughout society. How can you extrapolate to all teachers from a few instances and insult teachers’ characters? The hardship of being a teacher is one only those who have been teachers understand. But as for the salary and treatment [teachers receive], it’s only average in society.

yajing99 [云南昭通]:

Years of fact show that Teachers’ Day is meaningless, and instead shows that teachers are a disadvantaged group in this society.

法与理2013 [河南许昌]:

I suggest canceling public schools and public teachers, and changing them all into old-style private school education! gza

手机用户 [福建福州]:

Why didn’t you mention that they get 3-months vacation every year? If you think it’s tough, then quit.

大国也 [上海]:

Expounding wisdom, imparting knowledge, clearing up confusion, just how many teachers these days are able to do such things? Instead of teaching properly in class, they make tutoring at home a trend [to earn more money]. If the teachers of the main academic subjects don’t receive gifts from the parents, their children can’t get fair treatment in class. China’s education [system] should reflect upon itself from the root. The existence of a Teachers’ Day is no longer necessary, or it will become a synonym for providing benefits and presenting gifts.

rover [北京海淀]:

I object. Reason No.1: The birthday of Confucius was calculated, no one knows for sure [when it was]. Using a fake birthday for Teacher’s Day makes people feel like they’re being duped. Reason No.2: The ideology that Confucius represents has brought disaster to China for thousands of years, and it is directly related to the reason for China’s backwardness, which is why the vast majority of intellectuals were anti-Confucius during the May Fourth Movement, against the constraints that his old/traditional thinking imposed on the minds of Chinese people, and then put forward the slogan of science and democracy. We shouldn’t go back in history. Reason No.3: Contemporary teachers have nothing to do with Confucius. Confucius imparted his own school of thought on his students, whereas contemporary teachers put the country first, serving the country and nation through teaching, which can’t be embodied on Confucius. Therefore, don’t equate teachers, who educate in a higher level, with Confucius, who is of the period of slavery and decline.

亩产十万斤 [安徽蚌埠]:

A lot of teachers have low characters and are immoral. Being a teacher is no longer the admirable and sacred profession that “imparts knowledge and clears confusion” it was before, but just a job to make a living. “A whole body reeking with money” stinks more than the “Old Ninth”! I propose canceling Teachers’ Day.

手机用户 [天津]:

Teachers’ Day is just the day for giving teachers gifts. Nowadays, teachers are without conscience. I propose canceling Teachers’ Day.

手机用户 [甘肃]:

Teachers’ Day is just Animals’ Day, Gift-Giving Day!

手机用户 [浙江湖州]:

First fix the morality of teachers, then have people respect them.

手机用户 [浙江湖州]:

Such bullshit!!!! Receiving gifts on Teachers’ Day? I have been teaching for more than twenty years. I’ve never had Teachers’ Day off and have never received any gifts! If you think teachers are bad, then please don’t send your kids to school! Some people these days, how come they don’t know how to respect others?

一条想吃人的狼 [黑龙江牡丹江]:

Has Ghosts’ Day been changed?

玫瑰余香 [辽宁锦州]:

If there was really so much [illegitimate] wealth to be had in the teaching profession, then how come we don’t see government officials doing everything they can to arrange for their children to become teachers? Why is it that those who become teachers are all the children of peasant farmers or commoners? Why is it that teachers are the ones competing to become civil servants/government officials while no civil servants are competing to become teachers? Fighting in the graveyard — poor ghosts killing hungry ghosts. [An old Chinese saying, here suggesting that jealousy of teachers earning a lot and receiving a lot of gifts is unjustified because teachers are actually poor.]

What do you think? Should there be a Teacher’s Day at all? If so, should it be moved to September 28th to coincide with Confucius’s birthday?

They’re changing it because it’s exactly after the death of 毛腊肉.

It’s almost sarcastic that the day after that guy died is teacher’s day, where finally teachers get recognized.

I read this netizen comment and thought to myself: being a parent is not a profession as there’s no qualification. You simply require a penis, a vagina and the ability to use them. There’s no reason to celebrate that, particularly as the resultant offspring in China often go on to rape hostesses, crash their Ferraris, smash into students and declare that no-one has the right to sue them or live off ill-gotten gains in foreign countries.

And it’s the teachers who have to put up with the shit that the little bastards do every single day of the week while daddy goes to have sex with his mistresses and mummy desperately and selfishly tries to hold on to her fading beauty by foisting off the child onto grandparents or an ayi while she goes shopping to pretend that she never had a child.

Can you imagine Meng Ge sitting at home on parents’ day saying to herself “Gosh, what a wonderful mum I am!” ? Sadly, I can.

      • masonman

Seeing the kind of abuse that happens between teachers and their students in Chinese schools, I don’t think they deserve some kind of inherent respect.

        • narsfweasels

Correct! Chinese students do NOT deserve inherent respect. They deserve respect as human beings, but until they prove worthy of more than that, they should be treated with cold disdain.

          • Jeffrey Jones

I thought masonman was talking about teachers, not students?

          • Probotector

He was, it was a sarcastic reply

          • narsfweasels

Could be, but where he got the idea that Chinese teachers consistently and regularly abused students from is beyond me….

          • Probotector

No, it’s the other way around, and their parents encourage it from a young age.

          • masonman

They do. Corporal punishment is encouraged in many Chinese schools. A lot of abuse and sexual harassment also goes unreported because of students not wanting a bad reputation etc. There are plenty of videos online of kids being hit for forgetting a few strokes of one character and stuff like that.

      • firebert5

“I read this netizen comment and thought to myself: being a parent is not a profession as there’s no qualification.”
True, but you gotta have something to offset Children’s Day!

seriously, this sounds like a hollywood plot detailing the typical american upper-middle class family. i’m sure i’ve seen the film, dad’s a wall street bigshot, mom’s a soccer mom who got a boob job and one of the kids are gay. the chinese need there version. i nominate @narsfweasels to take this to hong kong!!

Teachers’ Day or Teachers’ Pay Day?

    • wafflestomp

Bribes you mean? Maybe for high school teachers preparing them for the gao kao… I’ve never heard of any bribes.

The problem I find is the middle class and above still view teachers, like anyone without loads of money, as trash. They’ll pretend to be your friend until their kid passes whatever bullshit test then you’re last weeks garbage.

      • Jeffrey Jones

Wasn’t there an article some time back about how the parents were pissed off because their sons and daughters were not ALLOWED to CHEAT in some college entrance exam or such. That was a big eyeroll right there, protesting about their right to CHEAT!!!!!

And yes you are right, a fussy 30 something female friend said teachers are not “stable”, code for poor or lower class, just as anyone who goes to a bar is trash, or anyone with a shaved head is black society and so on

        • Scream_Writer

I’m too distracted to comment b/c your screen name and avatar are just…inspired! Hahaha!

(If you are the real Jeffrey Jones, then I apologize. Also, you shouldn’t have taken pictures of that boy.)

          • Jeffrey Jones

I promise, no more photos of boys!!! I like your handle too, a nice play on screen writer?

      • Alphy

Really? You’ve never heard of giving “gifts” on teacher day in China? That’s what it is. Even kids in kindergarten are expected to give “red gift” to the teacher on this day. It used to be apple, but ya now kids’ parents feel that they will get treated unfairly by teacher if they do not at least match their peer.

It got so bad that guys are recommended not to find teachers as girlfriend now a-days because of their “corrupt heart”.

That Confucius sure was a handsome dude, amiright?

Another item on the long list of “things some Chinese scholars are claiming to have been invented in China on extremely flimsy evidence” won’t make a difference.

      • 111

        so scary with that picture

  • peye

If it was not for teachers this website would not be here.

  • Germandude

Jesus, it must suck to be a teacher… I guess parents are the same all over the world.

“My boy failed in math? You probably didn’t explain it right to my poor baby”.
“My son is behaving like shit at home! What have you done to him? Can’t you teach him how to behave?”
and so on, and so on.

Now granted that there are a lot of idiotic and incapable teachers out there. I had my fair share of them during my school career. But honestly, I wasn’t an easy kid as well and must have caused countless headaches to my teachers.

What I find funny though is that teacher’s always get flamed when the little princes and princesses screwed up because it is so much easier to blame the teacher for the son being an extremist retard, especially during puberty. What people fail to is to reflect on themselves.

Just a thing for the teachers, to cheer you guys up: Several of my uncles and aunties are teachers as well and I am told many stories. I myself didn’t want to become a teacher because I thought I couldn’t handle students like myself and my friends and I “escaped” into the business world. Just to find out that in that field, the amount of retardation is the same. Which makes sense, considering that the complaining parents are working there…

    • slob

I used to work in a kindergarten and every time I saw parents picking their children up, the kids would rebel and start fighting with the parents. You would see kids from like 5-10 years old hitting, punching, kicking, swearing at, and abusing the hell out of their parents while they just stood there giving them ‘the look’. You don’t look at a kid, you fucking smack the shit out of them until they learn some respect. Then these parents have the nerve to turn around and say “Why is my son doing poorly?” Geez…I don’t know…maybe because he has no respect for anybody due to shitty parenting skills?

      • Probotector

Every weekend I deal with this shit. Girls are usually fine, it’s the boys who are little shits because they’re so spoiled. I once had a five-year-old boy start slapping me because i sat in his seat. After I restrained the little fucker his mum went ape shit and bitched because I shouldn’t touch her child. So what are we supposed to do, let them scratch, kick and bite us?

        • Jeffrey Jones

The boys are little horrors indeed, turds is the english word I’d use.

          • RickyBeijing

I just got out of a teaching job into greener grasses. I couldn’t take the kids here in Beijing any more. I’ve never seen anything like it, and I come from a huge family. Some of the kids would taunt the Chinese teachers by flashing them 100rmb notes, then ripping it up and throwing the pieces out of the sixth floor window.

Quite common that I see parents holding a bottle for kids to drink out of or piss into, it’s insane. The lack of parenting skills in China (and I guess the world but I have no experience anywhere else) is astounding.

I’ve had kids attack me like they do their parents and I started getting rough with them because I couldn’t take it anymore. I would lift a kid by his armpit and launch him out the door and slam the door shut, I just couldn’t do it anymore.

          • Jeffrey Jones

Good for you. Can’t believe that about the notes, arrogant little gits. I hear ya about not being able to do it anymore. It is definitely a job that requires patience, or as a kiwi told me when I first came to china: :”wait till you meet the little cunts mate!” quite apt now I look back in reverie, I was naive and thought it would be a walk in the park.

          • RickyBeijing

The thing was I had worked in a different province before as a teacher for a year and a half and I loved it! It was a much smaller city with less rich parents, even though we were the most expensive school there.

I loved the kids in the smaller city but here in Beijing (funnily enough I’m sending this message during the class’ break) They are little fucking cunts.

I think the one child policy isn’t the problem. In Germany since their economic upturn has had a kind of ‘silent’ social one child policy. Where parents would review their finances, their time, their attributes and decide that one child was the way to go. That resulted in a generation of intelligent forward thinking Only child Germans.

I think the (one child + Chinese culture) is the problem. It’s like in that film idiocracy (shit film but it had a valid point) Except where it worked out to be perfectly in the future of the planet’s best interests for the germans, and to be an atrocious fucking mess with the Chinese.

I understand that the Germans had a choice of how many children they wanted but that doesn’t change the parenting skills, it just changes the grounds under which the same situation was handed.

          • Terrik

I had problems similar to this while working with Koreans.

          • Olavainen

And this is why I always stuck to the “only work in unis where your students are at least legally adults and thus kicking them out of the classroom for misbehaving carries less chances of potentially harmful consequences” rule.

    • Funny story, some 40 some year old German dude was living in countryside Jilin teaching kids, one day this middle school kid pissed him off and he threatened him to throw it out of the window, so one thing lead to the next one and he actually threw the kid out of the window, problem was this teacher thought he was in the second floor but he was in the 4th. The kid landed over a car and broke a lot of bones. That dude got deported. The end. xD

These people do not have money; in fact, they come to China and work on a semester-by-semester basis. It’s not often that our schools will contract unqualified teachers for more than a semester or two. Even if they had the money, you are asking that they invest in a city where they cannot stay. They are like migrants and have to go around from city to city, school to school just to stay employed. It’s either that, or they go home and work food service.

          • chandlerpatrick

Hahaha! you seem so intent on joining the conversation… Why? Is it a good idea for someone as obviously affluent as yourself to be conversing with “us” cretins on Chinasmack? Shouldn’t you be out raping bar girls, or crashing the car your rich daddy bought for you? Here’s an even better Idea, you can take 20000 of your daddy’s money, and invest it in this bar… that would be sooooo smart… You’re post implies that you are the only one who could afford such an endeavor….I say do it!

Honestly, I don’t judge people based on how much money they make. You can “easily make” 40000 per year? good for you… Even if you could make 40000000000000 per year, you’d still be an ignorant person, with half a brain.

          • Jeffrey Jones

Really? From your husband or by yourself, yet you tell everyone that you have not a pot to piss in and are looking for someone to invest, hmmmmmmm

          • Jeffrey Jones

If he does that is even less than an FT’s salary. I think eattots husband could be a teacher perhaps at a kindergarten?>

          • Probotector

            Who cares?!

          • Zappa Frank

and when he will be tired of you and will find a new younger beautiful girl what will you do? are you proud to spend your life with someone else money?living as a housewife. BTW, are you really traveling and having fun? because it’s strage to see you so many times here if you travel that much..

          • 剑胆琴心

how do u know i am travlling?
i had bad food in street ….

          • mr.wiener

Darling, why do I get the feeling you are doing this for the attention?
I’m not asking for any promises from you, but in the future could you try …TRY to not get angry with the people who post responses to you , EVEN if they are mean to you.
            Please?
Everyone else. Entertaining as it is these long threads of Eattot baiting are getting to be a bore, how about a pithy comment or 2 and leave it at that hmmmm?

          • Atlas

            No

          • mr.wiener

Pretty please and some lingerie shots of Linette?

          • Refractions_of_Error

Excellent! But Linettes gonna get you man!

          • mr.wiener

I don’t see why, these shots are very classy, good lighting and just the barest hint of areola.
Besides which she has all those shots of me with the vacuum cleaner , which has quite an innocent explanation behind it I might add…I was vacuuming the floor naked and I slipped . And as to that x-ray shot of the beer bottle, that is not me, it’s just somebody with the same name.

          • Atlas

            Double no!

          • Refractions_of_Error

You may have noticed I have stayed out of this. But as you said, it appears to be for the attention. People get sworn at for giving views, then have to tolerate “LEAVE ME ALONE” and all that. She is asking for it. But I agree with your idea of leaving it short. Also. Can we swear back? Please?

          • Jeffrey Jones

Who cares? Only you, shame, you only see money, and when your husband leaves you for younger prettier skinned girl then what?

          • Probotector

Shows you do not really know much about anything.

          • hess

          • takasar1

            sure…20000 usd sound alright?

          • Jeffrey Jones

            pay half upfront? thought not/

          • takasar1

why ask when you can answer??? why not, send me your bank account details….thought not/ ;)

          • Jeffrey Jones

NSA,people hacking for two reasons. Last but least, I just don’t trust bank security or your reasons for asking. Privacy another! Take a hike!!!

          • takasar1

            why so mean?!? :(:(:(

          • Jeffrey Jones

For one, I simply do not trust any asian male, second, I am very suspicious of your agenda and I am entitled to my privacy. Get stuffed body!!!

          • takasar1

dont worry, i dont trust westerners either. lol, i’m praying your joking…you are right??? so…you initiate a joke, i respond accordingly and then, somewhere down the line, you think it stops being a joke and that i care a smidge about a random dude on internet who’s existence means as much to me as a blade of grass? seriously ‘pal’, learn how to read between the lines and btw, how do you know i am asian?? i could be Brazilian for all you know.

          • Jeffrey Jones

No, I’m not joking alas. Well “pal” your responses are unneeded here. You are not brazilian, stop your gambits here.

          • takasar1

what?!? but what else are people on this site even doing apart from wasting time? anyhow jeffers, its been fun but a carnival has just begun (i am Brazilian remember ;)) and i am needed.. btw, its not called a ‘gambit’ when i have already achieved my goal. just having a laugh ‘pal’ dont be too offended, nothing different from what you were doing with that female chinese user (why do you guys always argue with her anyway?). just in case you’re interested in my back-story, i’m an ethnic Kazakh who is a studying in london :) :), you could call me ‘british’

          • Jeffrey Jones

Fair enough, but unfortunately kazakhstan for me is still in the oriental despotism mindset. Nazarbayez has never relinquished power and will likely pass it to whoever he deems worthy. At least a certain other country to the east has changed leaders more than his nation. It is gambits!!!

          • takasar1

lol, give me a break, democracy is good and ‘oriental despotism’ is evil? such a naive way of thinking, unfortunately this whole ‘us v them’ mentality fails because nothing in this world, from political ideology to characters, is black and white, only different shades of gray. it isnt gambits! a gambit is a bait and i no longer need to throw out anymore since you already bit one and made a boring tuesday slightly more interesting for me.

          • Jeffrey Jones

I didn’t state that so much as, an unelected north korea style cult of personality leader can in no way be compared to the UK with rule of law, even if we don’t like something, we can complain and protest about it.

          • takasar1

i agree completely but that is an extreme. however, if i were to ask; who is worse, Iran/Palestine or Israel? then, unless you’re biased then you would have to argue that both have done and will continue to do terrible things. on an even more interesting note; how about comparing singapore to india? who is better? who is more stable? who is more successful? authoritarian singapore or democratic india? aside from this, the reputation of a nation should have no bearing on judgement concerning the character of an individual. so because nazarbayez is an imbecile i should not be trusted or treated equally?

          • Jeffrey Jones

Fair enough,it was wrong of me to make it personal. The problem I have with this is when people like in Singapore support their authoritarian leaders just because the economy is good or it is clean or something like that. Those are not good enough reasons in my book, again not personal. Rule of law, a free press, the right to vote and elect leaders, the right to recourse and to protest police harrasment, these are all values that while opposite to asian/oriental values, are ones I hold dear. Personally, I find singapore a dull place, no interest to go there, but each to their own!

          • takasar1

i wont argue with you there, kuala lumpur may be less affluent but it is far better than that concrete jungle know as singapore.honestly, no historically poor nation i can think of accepted the washington consensus because they wanted democracy, they all followed it because they assumed democracy would put them on a path to wealth but (as seen in the post soviet eastern europe) this doesnt always work out perfectly. in my book, if i cant put food on the table in regular fashion, then i have no right to complain about the government unless it is inhibiting me from feeding myself and my family. the reason the chinese stick with their government and the Singaporeans with theirs is because they are getting progressively wealthier, wealthier than their parents were anyway. my grandfather served in the soviet military so my family was quite well off, enabling me to come to the UK, you, i assume also dont have any immediate history of poverty in your family. in the west, we became capitalist and democratic through hundreds of years, with bourgeoisie institutions/practices and the like that asians have only just begun to experience. for now, they probably wont care too much as long as they are gaining wealth but history shows that people also want to safe-guard this wealth and status/freedom from what their governments may wish to impose upon them. consequently, i feel they will soon be democratic because democracy, if nothing else, gives people the illusion that their opinions matter. imo, for democracy to work, you need a healthy, stable, educated middle class and time.

          • Jeffrey Jones

kuala lumpur may be less affluent but it is far better than that concrete jungle know as singapore

Agreed! I still found it quite a nice and clean city to hang around, just really humid. Great food in malaysia however!

          • Jeffrey Jones

            your husband pays?

    • Germandude

I am sure your teachers recognized you as an “A-class student”…

    • fakeusername

It seems you have legitimate cause to hate your English teachers.

    • linette lee

Philosophy is important. It affect development of civilizations. Ethics is the study dealing with what is the proper course of action for man. It is the study of right and wrong in human endeavors. Even science needs ethical guidelines. Many Greek scientists were also philosophers.

      • 剑胆琴心

i know, if they can point out the principles of the nature and world.it’s fine.
but maybe only for what i read, just as a sicko talking to himself…try his best to do brainwash or breed his ideas into others…messy and sick…

        • Probotector

          Were you reading Mao Zedong?

        • slob

It’s only brainwashing if you allow yourself to accept it. If you think it’s wrong, go research and study the subject yourself then come to your own conclusions. Lazy students like you are the ones I hate the most in my classes because you have next to zero creativity and don’t want to ‘step out of line’ to give ideas that are different to your classmates. You call it ‘brainwashing’ yet you’re the one freely giving your brain to the teachers without any argument like a beggar holding out a dish and complaining about the food they’re given.

          • Probotector

Yeah, that’s why I never do debate or “free talk” discussion classes, because I know nothing will happen if I don’t do the talking. Occasionally you’ll have limited success, but generally they won’t take the initiative.

      • Jeffrey Jones

Please don’t argue with the unwashed, it brings you down to their unwashed level.

more words of wisdom from the resident sage!

    • Middle_Kingdum

      Dear Bunny, who is Max?

      • mr.wiener

        Carl’s brother:Max Marx.

        • David

Darn you Mr. Wiener, your too fast for me, I wanted to educate her on that (since I am a teacher and want to make her head feel like gonna bomb). OK, I have to settle for “Karl’s” brother. Not nearly as good. BTW does anybody know where I can throw away $20,000 on a useless investment with a psychotic that will never get me my money back? Just asking.

          • 剑胆琴心

you look like a psychotic already…
aged man with long hair eating ice cream in public…omg!
no one tells you it’s creepy…

          • Probotector

What’s wrong with eating ice cream in public?!

          • 剑胆琴心

if your a girl of course you can…but a man doing this, rally creepy…
in my family when eat together can not talk…and can not eat mouthful outside either…

          • Boris

            Multi-tasking’s a bitch, isn’t it?

          • Refractions_of_Error

Why does it remind you of work? All that licking?

          • Jeffrey Jones

Yeah, I buy a magnum outside this school where the nouveau riche pick up their spoiled brats all the time, much like a road beer, whats wrong with eating ice cream for a bloke on the street?!

          • Middle_Kingdum

A man eating ice cream in public in China is OMG?? I never knew that.

          • Germandude

Looking at your pic, it appears to be shot in either of the following situations:

Option 1: You just woke up after having some methamphetamine during night or

Option 2: You took the pic right after you came back from a barber shop after waiting the whole night for a customer that didn’t come

            I tell you, it’s creepy

          • 剑胆琴心

your talk about your wife or your mom
and seems your so familiar with this kinda thing…
or maybe at the same time you go to cheap sex barber shops often?

          • Germandude

You know, just running around with open eyes helps a lot. Combine that with a sense of logic and there you go.

I forgive you your “Your mom/Your wife jokes” as they are usually used by the ones that lack creativity/intelligence. A kind of last resort to switch the topic really. Nice try though.

So which of my option was correct then?

          • 剑胆琴心

            correct your head.
i am sure you eat too much german sausage that you look like a sausage and your brain only full of sausage.

          • Germandude

            You are what you eat…

          • Germandude

            Compared to

          • Jeffrey Jones

            hahaha!@

          • Jeffrey Jones

whats wrong with german sausage? or is it that you have never had any inside you?

          • 剑胆琴心

            ugly ghost

          • Jeffrey Jones

            I am ghost, mwahahahaha

          • Whoo

You can get sausages relatively cheaply from a store near you.

          • Jahar

I’ve heard this is a common result of eating too much of something.

          • Jahar

            your mom lacks creativity/intelligence!

          • Jeffrey Jones

As opposed to expensive KTV bars?

          • David

LMAO . . . OMG Well, I appreciate the lesson in Chinese etiquet, I will try to olny eat ice cream in the privacy of my own home from now on. I suppose I should go warn all those ice cream parlors that they are creepy to serve people ice cream in public.

          • Jeffrey Jones

Just ignore her, hopefully she will wander away when she finds her next customer, sorry, boyfriend

        • Middle_Kingdum

oh, okay. The famous Max Brothers. I love them!

    • Refractions_of_Error

Hate teachers? But need tech etc. How will that be learnt in the absence of teachers?

  • Cauffiel

    1. Netizens are naive to think that only recently have improprieties found their way to education.

    2. The respect and admiration Chinese proclaim to have for educators is…. well, the whole thing is just laughable. They are, on average, at least as disrespectful and lazy as any other country.

    3. We are actually acknowledging the birthday of a Chinese historical figure using the Gregorian calendar??? Fully half of Chinese answer the question “what day is your birthday” with “I don’t know.” And then go on to imply that the Chinese lunar calendar is the only one that makes sense, but since I don’t know it, they can’t explain why their birthday is a different day every year.

it doesn’t seem like history mean anything to chinese citizens anyways. what’s the difference?

    • Whoo

Why do you say this? History is actually very important to the Chinese. Most dramas/films/music are based on historical figures and events. Although for the latter, soapy weepy ballads and what resembles bubblegum pop are even more popular.

    • Cauffiel

yeah, really, chinese talk about history in every day conversations. perhaps it is a made up, imaginative, storybook history, much of which did not actually happen, but if you have nothing worth talking about in the present and the future, history is just about all you’ve got.
