Prostitutes’ Used Condoms Found Daily in Guangdong Green Belt

Some street women are being taken into the police car.

From IFeng:

Guangdong Streetwalkers Doing Business in Green Belt, Sanitation Workers Claim to Have Cleaned Up Over a Hundred Condoms During the Day

On the evening of June 4, at 8:30 pm, Guangdong Foshan ChanCheng Police assembled over 60 officers and conducted a raid along the approximately 2-kilometer stretch of road along Foshan Avenue (Jihua Road-Tangtou Overpass), arresting 13 streetwalkers [prostitutes/whores who solicit business on the streets]. According to police officer Chen of Tongji Local Police Station, this raid is the first large-scale raid of the year. This picture [above] is of the arrested street women in this raid. Chancheng Police say this green belt has thick bushes, and the lights here are dim. This place was cleared out years ago, and normally there are daily patrols along the road, and plain-clothes officers are dispatched to raid here from time to time, so the phenomenon of streetwalkers has already become scarce. “However, due to the rise in recent temperatures, the streetwalkers have ‘returned’. ” This picture is of the streetwalkers arrested during the crackdown. At night, under these trees, street women “do business” right where they are. During the day, used condoms numbering over a hundred discarded on the lawn wait for sanitation workers to clean them up. According to reports, this kind of situation has existed for many years, the sanitation workers loudly complaining that they “can’t take it anymore”. Whereas the residents around this area are so scared that they have to take a detour avoiding this road whenever they take a walk. This picture is of the streetwalkers arrested in this raid. To the east of the intersection between Foshan Avenue and Jihua Road of Chancheng District, there is a large green belt, and along its 350-meter-long lawn from Jihua Road to Yingyin Road, over a hundred used condoms are discovered every day.

This green belt is right next to Foshan Avenue, where the traffic is very heavy. By standing on the sidewalk, one can see every inch of the lawn of the green belt. Near the walls of the Foshan downtown blood bank, the bushes and lawn “hide” many condom packages, wrinkled tissues, and used condoms. This picture is of the randomly discarded used condoms.

Mr. Deng divulged that unless it’s a rainy day, there can be dozens to hundreds of “johns” every day, and even more on weekends. The streetwalkers’ workplace is right on the lawn. Mr. Lu of the nearby Jinziyuan residential community says: “Many times when passing by, I’ve discovered them in the green belt doing that.” According to reports, the streetwalkers’ hours of operation is from about 7:30pm to 4:00am the next morning. This picture is of the discarded used condoms.

According to nearby residents, most of the “customers” are single men. This reporter discovered during a visit that there are in total 4 construction sites around Lvjing Road, Foshan Car City, and the Jiangwan Overpass surrounding the green belt, while the urban villages [ghettos/shantytowns] such as Tangtou Village, Pan Village, and Jian Village also have many single men without wives nor their own houses or live separate from their wives. Not long ago in Hainan, there were a bunch of rich guys screwing around with women, with over 1 thousand condoms everywhere, but just how many were arrested?

凤凰网北京市网友 手机用户:

I personally think they shouldn’t go around arresting streetwalkers. Because of the [sex ratio] imbalance between men and women, there are many normal men can’t find a wife, but still have normal physiological needs, so it depends on how the country will manage/control [prostitution]. Otherwise there will be more and more sexual assaults.

手机用户 [广东东莞]:

Making a fuss about nothing. You arrest the streetwalkers so the migrant workers resort to rape? Talk about “well-fed men not knowing the hunger of men who are starving”. So many migrant worker brothers whose wives are not by their side, what do you want them to do? You police sleep with your wives in your arms every night, and the officials are even able to keep mistresses, but migrant workers are supposed to just suffer without? You guys need to consider the migrant worker brothers who are building the cities, or how about you lend your wives and daughters and mistresses to them?

手机用户 [广东湛江]:

[During] an anti-prostitution crackdown, a woman is arrested, and the police asks: Why do you prostitute? Woman says: If I rely on men, men are unreliable. If I rely on the factory, the factory gets sold. So I can only rely on myself. The [working] time is short, the results are quick. I don’t engage in corruption, and though I sell my body, I still have my soul. The carrot is pulled but the hole is still there, so it can’t be said this is prostitution. The police then says: But you know it’s a crime? The woman says: I don’t depend on the government, I don’t depend on the Party, just one bed and I can do my work. No noise, no pollution, using cracks to for development. I don’t give birth to girls, I don’t give birth to boys, and I don’t make trouble for the country, so what is the crime? [The original Chinese rhymes.]

手机用户 [广东广州]:

Prostitution should be legalized. How come you guys don’t go arrest officials who keep mistresses? How come you guys don’t go do anything about officials who rape their subordinates? Aren’t there enough “beasts wearing the skins of men”? Teachers and government officials raping underage girls, how come you guys don’t go arrest them and do something about them? These are the kind of people who should be executed. Visiting a prostitute is a normal physical need.

浪漫的难得糊涂 [广东广州]:

Instead of fixing problems in the social institutions, you always just arrest these vulnerable/disadvantaged groups. If nobody leaves their hometowns to work in the cities, where husbands and wives and fathers and sons [parents and children] are separated, would a situation like this exist? Those government officials can go to nightclubs [more specifically "gentleman's clubs", "saunas" or "KTVs" where sexual services are offered], but migrant workers can only go to the roadsides, what else is there to say… We are all people, we all have physiological needs. Don’t underestimate this, when physiological needs are not met, all kinds of big problems can emerge, and rapes and murders will increase.

手机用户 [广东深圳]:

Drag this whistle-blowing reporter out and cane his ass 20 times, and put those police officers in detention for 15 days. What those women were doing was helping migrant workers with their physiological needs, to prevent rape crimes from happening; solving the food and clothing needs of their families; helping currency circulation and economic development. Doing their part for the development of the country, they not only endure wind and rain, they also have to put up with being nervous and scared all the time. They are not like those established transaction places [brothels and whorehouses] that have bought off the local police, where working there is stable, safe, at ease. Just look at India and you’ll know the benefits of prostitution far outweigh its harm.

Good to see the netizens’ comments hover around that this is close to a victimless crime and that these women are people too. Legalize prostitution and spend the manpower on something better.

    • nqk123

u can’t stop prostitution. the next best thing is to legalize and strictly regulate it.

      • Irvin

Of course they can’t stop prostitution, it’s the oldest profession in the world.

        • ….

Even if it was legalized, taxed, and regulated, Chinese authorities aren’t exactly known for being very skilled at regulating anything. The whole system over there is rotten to the core.

        • linette lee

how about your wife or mother get kidnapped and sold to one of these LEGALIZED organization. You are giving them licenses for human trafficking. And you will have more husbands not coming home to their wives and just hang out in these whore house. More divorce.

          • lonetrey / Dan

Not that I’m really supporting legalization of prostitution, it doesn’t matter to me. But I noticed you focused on women forced into that work as well as cheating men… if the regulation were strict and enforced, then those problems could be avoided.

            .
            .
            .

Think about it. A China with legal prostitution that requires customers to be screened and checked with a marriage registry. And if the system regulates it tightly, it could show an example of how to do things properly for the rest of China. The prostitution system would be tied into so many other systems that they would have to start handling those other systems correctly without corruption as well.

And then if people start flouting the law and cheating or not regulating properly, the whole system is thrown out the window along with legal prostitution. And then they would learn the lesson of “This is why we can’t have nice things.”

Outrage soon ensures by all the would-be customers, taking to the streets in protest of all the married assholes who ruined legal prostitution for them. The government soon realizes that corruption in China truly ruins everyone’s lives, driving them forward to crush the rotten core of their bureaucracy.

Thus, a new enlightened golden age of peace, prosperity, and prostitution shines upon the Harmonious China. And then the story of how prostitutes and hookers saved China faded into myth and legend, to be told by grandparents to their childen’s children’s children’s children as their bedtime story…..

          • linette lee

Until China clean up their gov’t system of corruption, don’t even think of legalizing prostitution. You are opening a can of worms.

          • lonetrey / Dan

            I know, Linette :(

But I was only telling a story about how sometimes people throw away their own opportunity to improve things.

So much progress might be made, if only the corrupt politicians would stop ruining all these nice things.

          • linette lee

lonetrey….hahahha You are so cute. Prostitution is not a nice thing. okay.. maybe. whatever.

          • elizabeth

It’s actually nice…for men who can’t manage their hormonal urges.

          • linette lee

imagine those corrupt china officials come to your house and say you don’t give them red envelope now you will go to jail or they take your daughter or wife to be legalized prostitute. wow…the title sounds professional. Legalized prostitute.

          • Jon

Do the police go to people’s homes nowadays and grab a wife and say to the husband, “as punishment, your wife must now be a pig farmer!” or “we will take your daughter and make her our village street-sweeper!” Certainly not. Legalized prostitution is a long time away from today’s China anyway; sex is still too taboo and the government has little practice with effective regulation. However, in functioning countries where prostitution is legalized, the women have greater protection from the dangers of the trade, and human trafficking rates plummet.

          • Thor

Linette, please stop fantasizing. This won’t happen.

          • Uber

That can is already open… It’s not like women aren’t already being abducted and sold into the sex trade, the difference would be that if it happened and the sex shop was raided your mother/sister/daughter would go to jail for it, if it was legal they would just be returned to you.

There is no danger to legalizing prostitution that isn’t already a danger in the industry, and there are a couple of things that could be helped, like disease control and such.

“But our government is too inept” is not a valid reason for throwing young, impoverished women in prison for having sex with a consenting adult. That there are still people who want prostitution illegal is disgusting.

          • elizabeth

And allowing impoverished women to sleep with men for money isn’t disgusting.

          • moody

women sell their charms to this very end all the time, and many do it willingly.

          • elizabeth

These are not victims. Your rhetoric should stop here.

          • linette lee

If you know abduction and human trafficking is wrong, then why you want to just make sex trade legal and legally regulate it? The right thing to do is for all gov’ts to fight those crime and organizations. Put all those criminals in jail. Not make it legal for sex trade.

          • moody

i beleive regulating prostitution might put an end to forced prostitution.
forced prostituion and the men who profit from exploiting women is what must be stopped.
a woman can sell her body for all i care, it is her’s to sell if she makes that decision.
If you think about it, women have been selling their charms since times immemorial, it is why we call it the oldest profession

          • Jon

If prostitution were legalized, women in the trade would have more protection, not less. They could actually go to the police if they are threatened or assaulted. Furthermore, once a business is legalized, governments are very keen to collect their share of taxes. This gives police a greater incentive to enforce laws against unregulated trade, which pushes those who want to earn their money without hassle into the regulated trade. In countries where prostitution is legalized, women are safer and trafficking rates plummet.

          • http://aileilei.tumblr.com/ El Puma R.

LOL Chinese government collecting Prostitution taxes… sounds like a refund for the officials.

          • moody

You can’t say it like that.
divorce and cheating are not due to the existence of prostitutes.

get rid of them, cheating men will still be cheating, divorce rate i beleive might even increase.

a man who visits prostitutes get his kink on and gets to go home (risking to spread diseases i agree), yet he goes back home.

I’m fairly certain that selling other human beings, and having sex for money are two different things. You can actually ban one and allow the other.

For instance, the US cotton industry is still legal.

It has been legalized already a long time ago and named ‘marriage’.

          • linette lee

China is not The Netherlands I know, but using Chinese corruption as an excuse all the time means nothing will change. How about dealing with things concurrently, in an integrated fashion?

          • linette lee

yeah…like put more effort into arresting and attacking those crime and organizations. Not make sex trade legal.

It’s like you say people are kidnapping children and turning them into street beggars already, so why not just make it legal to have children beggars on the street and regulate it.

No, you attack those organizations and no kids should be begging on the street. YOu open orphanages for them.

          • Zappa Frank

not the same linette. altough i see your point making prostitution legal may help to have a control over it and avoid cases of forced prostitution… Obviously it’s not something that can resolve this issue, but may help

Actually, Linette, you can. It’s been done in Holland and, a little closer to home, Singapore, where I believe it’s well-regulated and keeping STI numbers down are a primary focus.

It looked as if some of the chengguan could use a little more dancing or cycling in their daily routine. Why would they want to crack down on cyclists? It’s the car owners that are part of the problem not cyclists. So backward.

      • lonetrey / Dan

Eh, give Dumbledore (lol, I just realized his username) some credit, at least the highest voted comments were higher-level thinking, as opposed to the slut-shaming and slandering that some should’ve seen.

Haven’t been back to the pleasantry that is “Mainland woman raped in HK by evil”, but yeah, I suppose it’s good to laud people for being “forward-thinkers”.

But now I ask you, Bumblebore supporter: what does having a high-voted comment mean? Does it equate truthfulness? Is it illegitimacy? I’ve certainly had my share of upvotes and down, but it doesn’t mean anything. It’s just an artificial way for people who don’t necessarily want to say anything to be able to say anything.

I rarely vote, either up or down. But then I’m saying what I’m thinking rather than enjoying the false power of control that resides inside a Reddit mouth breather.

Ah, sorry, I should’ve been more clear. I mean “highest voted comment” as in the comments chosen to be displayed by Chinasmack, since they’re generally the most popular and outspoken comments out of the Chinese netizen’s, aren’t they?

    • Kate

It isn’t a victimless crime. Many of the men who visit prostitutes are married men. By visiting prostitutes, they are risking STDs and the very least, swapping body fluids with a woman who just swapped fluids with 10 other men that same day. They’re all sharing the same nasty germs/diseases. So then these married men go home, they have sex with their wife at some point, exposing her to potential infections/STDs/ Germs. She’s a victim. There are many cases where men/women cheat with non prostitutes/prostitutes and then give their spouse an STD. The HPV virus is one of the most common STDs, it has no symptoms, but once you have it, you have it and it’s the number 1 cause of cervical cancer in women.

Risking the health of your spouse/partner because you can’t keep it in your pants has consequences. By saying it’s victimless, you’re implying there aren’t consequences and there are. Very serious ones.

      • Nick in Beijing

Ok, so legalize it, regulate it by requiring frequent health checks for the prostitutes, and as someone mentioned the marriage registry could be checked and married customers refused service without written consent from their partner. I believe I heard at one point that there are a lot of places around the world that have similar systems (although probably without the marriage registry check) and they seem to not have a serious problem with STD’s transmitted by prostitutes.

Not perfect, but then again you run the same risks that you mentioned by visiting a mistress as you do in visiting a prostitute, although the mistress likely has less exposure to other men.

        • Xavier

Ok, so legalize it, regulate it by requiring frequent health checks for the prostitutes

They already do this in Singapore

It’s not hurting anyone, the only reason why it’s illegal is because the government don’t get a cut outta it. Just like weed in the US.

      • Turbocomppro

Believe me… the governments do get a cut. Even a blind man can “see” virtually all “Saunas / Relaxation Centers” provide full service. Hell, the ones in DongGuan even provide services to disabled people.

They just go raiding once a while to show the public they are “trying” and to show the rest of the places to pay up, or else.

        • Paul Schoe

@Turbocomppro: That “even provide services to disabled people” carries a very biassed negative undertone.
Is there something wrong with disabled people?
Are their needs other then the needs of non-disabled people?
          Is their money worth less?

      • Not entirely true. Some prostitutes are forced or sold into it, and they are nothing more than a piece of property by the pimps. There is also a major problem with human trafficing in China, bringing in girls from neighbouring countries for this.

When a vice is prohibited, often the worst sort of criminals move in to fill the gap. This includes to the corrupt state officials that get their cut so the criminal networks can operate.

        • http://www.chinasmack.com/ MrT

Particularly liked this delightful (not really) little snip from the article:“Whereas the residents around this area are so scared that they have to take a detour avoiding this road whenever they take a walk.” This is, as we all know, because prostitutes are terrifying. Oh! So scary.

Liking the comments on this one. They’ve got some good points, and most of them focus on the fact that, hell, it’s sort of an inevitability, so why criminalize it?

There’s an article I remember from somewhere that interviewed some Chinese prostitutes; they talked about how, when these raids happen, the result is a fine, which they then have to work off. So the situational irony being: these raids jsut encourage the prostitutes to keep their work up since they’ve just suffered a financial setback. A completely ineffective and in fact counterproductive result.

Given the goings-on and how they’re going to happen anyway, it would make a whole pile more sense to legalize and regulate it. But that would cause moral panic, so we’re going to take the easy way out, aren’t we?

    • linette lee

legalize prostitution. wow…I can’t believe I am hearing this.

      • Thor

It’s not your job, fair enough. But it’s a lot of people’s, whether you like it or not. And believe me, the women who sell their charms would be quite happy to see their job getting legal. It’s the only way to stop forced and gang prostitution if you ask me. What deters you from getting the idea is because of what it looks like now. But then it would be quite different if the activity was legal.

  • Turbocomppro

Just put a trash bin and a bench there. Problem solved.

  • zi_ni_ma_13

‘Making a fuss about nothing. You guys need to consider the migrant worker brothers who are building the cities, or how about you lend your wives and daughters and mistresses to them?”

  • Mighty

If the ‘prostitutes’ and the ‘Johns’ clean up after themselves it makes a win-win situation for everyone. 1) The women gets work; 2) The ‘single’ men get their sexual needs addressed; 3) The park is put into good use during the strict “hours of operation” from 7:30pm-4:00am and 4) out of sight from neighbors. The only party who may lose is the sanitation workers as they may have less mess to clean.

    • http://sinopathic.com/ terroir

In China, “safe sex” is locking the doors at night. Wouldn’t want to have some baby walk in and get stuck in a sewage pipe.

      • Mighty

It’s “safe sex” if the condoms are not ‘Made in China’.

  • Alex Brendel

The local government should set out attractive trash containers. Problem solved, if the prostitutes & “Johns” dispose of the condoms in the trash cans!

“Respectable” people can look the other way, avoiding the larger social problem. Migrant “johns” get laid, and disadvantaged women get paid.

Sanitation workers no longer have to pick up individual condoms, only empty the plastic-bag lined container.

    • moldavidian

Except that i find that even common people in China still don’t know how to use a trash container. Ever noticed trash on the streets in China just meters away from a trash container? First they need to somehow teach people how to use them before we can expect this type of person to be “green”.

      • Alex Brendel

We have the same problem here in the U.S. – a lot of people don’t use the trash containers. Police here don’t have time to chase down and give ticket to people who litter. You have some pretty mean Chan guan (spelling?) stomping on bicyclist’s heads. Do the Chen guan punish people for littering?

        • moldavidian

That may be and i’m quite aware that chasing people down to give them a ticket is not very efficient. Most people say that they teach environment protection in schools now but i think the problem has more to do with society. Chinese tend to follow the majority so as long as the majority want to trash their country, then China will be trashed. Some ways i thought of to shame them into changing their habits is by picking up garbage in crowded places in my free time. Especially when i see someone do it, then i tell them they must not like China but i do, so i want to keep it clean. How can they argue with that? Another way is for the government to find some nasty, fat, stupid looking actor to act in service annoucements that can be shown on TV and on public transport. He always smokes, spits, pisses, deficates, throws trash around and looks really horrible. If that doesn’t make your typical, uneducated dirt-bag take note, i don’t know what else to say except hit them where it hurts Chinese the most, make them pay a big fine like everywhere else.

  • Ralphrepo

I’m sorry, but I’m not getting this? This all came about because of sanitation worker complaints? So in essence, this is evidence of dissatisfaction within the worker’s paradise? NO! IT CAN’T BE! LOL…

Sorry, couldn’t resist. Seriously though, the cheapest solution is to do what US cops and politicians do; drive the activity elsewhere until the public commentary abates, and then go back to business as usual. The cost of actually remedying the underlying social pressures (that leads to prostitution in the first place) is way beyond what most governments (Chinese or otherwise) ever want to even address, much less tackle.

Simply station a well publicized and well lit police vehicle there every night for a month or two, wait until the news dies down and then go back to business as usual. By that time the hookers and johns would have found a new location and word of mouth would have redirected all the illegal traffic away from there; problem solved.

    More or less.

Oh, and as for prostitution being a “victimless” crime, just remembering the thousands of war time comfort women that were forced into it belies that thought. Prostitution by women who sell themselves is generally empowering to the woman; prostitution by organizations (whether pimps, crime gangs, national governments), whether legal or not, victimizes the woman, who is then just the expendable product and no longer the owner of her services.

    • linette lee

Prostitution can not turn into a legalize business. It is a very dangerous concept and practice. You don’t want that in a society. You will always have business that will break the law and the result can be devastating. Young girls get kidnapped or forced into prostitution. Every minute some girl’s life is ruined. IF you don’t believe in comfort women why do you believe in legalizing prostitution?

      • Jin Ch’in

The only reason you do not want it to be a legal business is because you do not want to pay taxes on your earning.

Dirty habit introduced by westerners and its mostly only old white guys who seek out these cheap sex workers and to cheap to even rent a hotel room. Government should charge a tax for all foreigners entering china to help clean up these mess.

    • ScottLoar

“According to nearby residents, most of the ‘customers’ are single
men. This reporter discovered during a visit that there are in total 4
construction sites around Lvjing Road, Foshan Car City, and the Jiangwan
Overpass surrounding the green belt, while the urban villages
[ghettos/shantytowns] such as Tangtou Village, Pan Village, and Jian
Village also have many single men without wives nor their own houses or
      live separate from their wives.”

Why is it so hard for you to understand? Why is it so hard for you to admit this is a local problem caused by local conditions and engaging locals? This has nothing to do with cheap and dirty “old white guys” no matter how hard you may try to wish it so.

      • Misiooo

Take it easy man. Don’t feed this Jin troll.

    • Terrik

Lets play a numbers game, Jin. According to the 2010 Chinese census, there’s around 600,000 foreigners in all of mainland china. The tiny town of Xiantao in Hubei that I use to visit had a population of 1,000,000. There’s not even enough foreigners to fill a small chinese city—and that number is declining. On top of that, the top 3 countries where these foreigners come from are South Korea, Japan and the U.S. There’s likely more “Asian” foreigners in China than there are white westerners.

Guangdong has around 160,000 of those foreigners–not surprising bordering Macao and Hong Kong. Foshan has a population of 4 million, and a tiny, tiny fraction of those are foreigners, and an even tinier fraction are westerners.

Now ask yourself, if “most” of their customers are old white men–an exceedingly small fraction of the population–do you think these girls would be able to make *any* money–or is the MORE likely scenario that they have a lot of ‘help’ from the locals?

      • Dave

I’m still not sure, are there 600,000 total foreigners, or were there 600,000 foreigners who were counted in the census?

        • Terrik

          From CCTV’s own website:

China’s latest census released by the National Bureau of Statistics shows that nearly 600 thousand foreigners were living on the Chinese mainland at end of 2010.

It’s the first time foreigners were surveyed in the once-in-a-decade census. The top three foreign nationalities were from South Korea, the United States and Japan.

South Korea topped the list with over 120 thousand of its nationals living on the Chinese Mainland. Over 71 thousand were from the United States, and more than 66 thousand from Japan. The national census also counted residents from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan who were living on the mainland. Nearly 235 thousand Hong Kong residents and over 21 thousand Macao residents were living on the mainland by Nov.1 2010.

The number of residents from Taiwan was over 170 thousand. Among all those from outside the Chinese mainland, including foreigners, over 60 percent are in the country for business, work, and study.

Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou had the highest numbers of foreign nationals. Those on short term business were not included in the census.

593,832 foreigners live on Chinese mainland: census data

Among the foreigners living on the Chinese mainland, 56.62 percent or 336,245 were males and 43.38 percent or 257,587 were females, the data shows. D

          • Dave

            Ah, cool. Thanks. So, lessee…

So, take out Japan and Korea… Give the benefit of the doubt, say that 400,000 foreigners are from “western” countries (though I’m sure it isn’t that high)…

            60% male… that’s 240,000… and there are 644 million Chinese women…

That’s over 2600 women for every laowai.

            Figure 20% are dateable… 540 per laowai.

Figure only 20% of those would like to date a laowai… That’s still 100 women lined up for every laowai.

Uh, why would we need prostitutes again?

          • Terrik

It’s not even about the need. It’s that there isn’t enough foreigners around that even if we WANTED to go a-whoring, there’d still be a lot of jobless prostitutes. Since Jin threw in the “old white man”, you have to imagine that the number is even smaller. Logically, it makes no sense.

I’m sure there are dirty old men that do go after prostitutes, but not enough to cause that aftermath shown up there.

          • Dave

Oh, sure, I just wanted to show that the reason “whitey is takin’ all of our wimmins!” is also absurd.

We only look like studs because there are so few of us.

          • linette lee

many mainlanders go to HK to give birth so their kids have HK ID. The kids have HK ID but the parents don’t. They can cross over and have their kids use the hk hospitals for free and all hk gov’t benefits.

      • Jin Ch’in

The largest group for 3rd world sex workers and Child prostitution not just in China but India, Vietnam, Thailand and now also poor eastern Europe are white Anglo Saxon male age between 25-65. They fueled human sex trafficking crimes to become the 3rd biggest commercial industry in the world.

        • Terrik

What? What are you saying? Are you saying that “Anglo Saxon males” are the ones that use prostitutes the most? In China? In the world?

Even looking at China alone, there are an estimated 3 million prostitutes in China, and that’s a conservative number. That’s a multitude times greater than that total number of all (male/female) foreigners in China. There are a ridiculous number of Chinese men that seek prostitutes. That did so before there were ever foreigners in China, and will continue to do so long after foreigners have left.

For heaven’s sake, walk a couple blocks in any given area of Shanghai and you’ll see a form of brothel somewhere, and I guarantee you that it’s serves Chinese customers more than foreign.

Were the brothels I saw in tiny Dangshan, Anhui for foreigners? Fuyang? Anshan in Liaoning? Baihe in Jilin?

If you’re going to try and make the case this is a “foreign problem”, you’re fighting against centuries of not only Chinese tradition, but a system that uses and abuses these women themselves while arresting a few once and a while for PR purposes.

It’s like the Koreans back in Shenyang who use to complain that the chaoxian zu “ruined” 西塔 (koreatown) with prostitutes and claimed Korea isn’t like that. It’s as if they hadn’t walked around their own country before.

It’s incredibly frustrating and a tad annoying to hear about prostitution (among other things) from Chinese who they themselves go to hooker KTVs, pay prostitutes to drink and sleep with them at night clubs and have xiaosans in every city.

And you know what Jin? If you aren’t that kind of guy, congratulations, that’s awesome. Now go forth and rally against the scores of Chinese men that actually do keep the prostitution business booming and the inept police that actively allow it to keep functioning.

EDIT: And I’m not saying foreigner’s don’t sleep with prostitutes. They sure do. I’m saying that it’s a small fraction compared to the locals–if for nothing other than the small number of foreigners compared to the native population. Given that the prostitutes are clearly not starving and white-anglo foreigners are only a part of the overall 600,000 foreigners in ALL of China, and not all are male, and of the male, not all see prostitutes, I don’t see how your argument stands.

          • Thor

The one and only purpose of Jin Ch’in intervention and usefulness is to push you and others to go and google/census bureau the topic and come up with figures to back your point. Jin doesn’t quote any. He’s just too lazy to look for them, especially giving he’ll never find any to back himself on this. #troll

Still not sure if trolling, or just very stupid.

      http://www2.hu-berlin.de/sexology/ECE6/html/female_prostitution.html

There have always been different types or classes of prostitutes. In ancient China, for example, one could distinguish between palace prostitutes, military prostitutes, indoor prostitutes, and market prostitutes.

      • Dave

In fact, the ideas that prostitution and homosexuality are “shameful,” came to China with the Christian missionaries.

Both homosexuality and prostitution were widely accepted in ancient China. The idea that they are “immoral” is Western. Isn’t that ironic?

There are reports done by UNICI, WORLD VISION and many other charity bodies have all had similar findings. Sex slavery and sex tourism is now the 3rd biggest business and the main customers are old white male. Whether you go is not the point..the point is a huge volume of foreigners traveled to 3rd world countries to take advantage of sex salves and child prostitution.
The largest group who trade online for child pornography are white males.

        • Chinggis was here

Do you have reading comprehension problems? The article is about Chinese street prostitutes in China being paid for by Chinese men.

It’s not about, foreigners, old white guys and sex tourism. Your entire argument is invalid, and it’s not the ”old white males’ fault if Chinese girls are drawn to them. I find it strange how people seem to assume that prostitutes are free agents, and that there is no harm being done here other than the littering.
If prostitution were legal, then that could be the correct assumption; however, while it remains a criminal act, the majority of prostitutes are being pimped out by gangs who take the majority of the profits away from these women – some of them are forced into prostitution to repay debts, others are lured in by promises as teenagers without realizing that they’d put their lives in danger if they try to leave later on.
Their actual earning are just a fraction of what they make in a night.
Are the prostitutes the problem? No, not exactly – the gangs running them are. Arresting the prostitutes is just a bandaid on the real problem. So, until the gangs are eradicated, or prostitutes can work legally without the need of gang protection, nothing will change.

    • Dave

Why do people assume that, if legalized, prostitutes will be free agents?

That they won’t have a “boss” that still makes more from their labor than they do? Most jobs work that way.

      • http://sinopathic.com/ terroir

Legalization means enforced regulation – which means “jills” can work on their own as independent contractors not beholden to any “boss”.

They could even form work unions – leading to the main reason why legalization will never occur in China.

        • Dave

Isn’t it easier to enforce if all the prostitutes worked for the same (perhaps state owned) company?

          • elizabeth

I don’t see any reason why anyone would want to join a pimping company unless they are forced into prostitution or cannot get clients on their own.

Those who can catch the fish on their own probably aren’t in the ‘victim’ category.

Legalization does not solve the actual problems, only sweeps them under the carpet while those who should not get to benefit even more and those who should be helped plunge further into the pit.

          • Nick in Beijing

Just because you can’t see why doesn’t mean others can’t.

I am assuming you are a woman, judging by your name. Can you honestly say that all women share your point of view just because you’re a woman?

I am a man, I am not a male prostitute, and very likely never would be, regardless of opportunity. If all my clients were hot super models then maybe, otherwise no (and no I am not ashamed of not wanting to get down with the female dregs of society, just like most women wouldn’t get down with the male dregs of society despite the money they could possibly make).

Just because I wouldn’t doesn’t mean others wouldn’t. As is evidenced by the existence of the male sex worker industry.

Plenty of women enjoy sex for the sake of sex, and plenty of them would be glad to make a buck off their hobby. Get off your high horse and stop judging what others are willing to do based on your standards.

  • elizabeth

No woman who is sane would willingly and happily take up prostitution as a job, and have sex with someone she does not love. Prostitutes are clearly victims of circumstances. Of course, there are exceptions, like gold-diggers, who are ‘victims’ of their own greed.

Legalizing prostitution in order to cater to the physiological needs of men does nothing to help these victims but only makes it easier for men to be unfaithful and/or promiscuous. I cannot imagine what repercussions that will have on families and society.

As for single men who ‘cannot find a wife’ due to gender imbalance in the population, they should not expect women to sacrifice their bodies to meet their needs. They should shape up to face the competition.

Legalizing prostitution because it seems a problem that cannot be solved is irresponsible escapism.

It is interesting that, so far, there has been very little said about male prostitution.

    • linette lee

      Amen.

Also that is nonsense about men not able to find wives in China. There are women from other race. The china men don’t have to just marry to chinese women. They can also marry other race. Other countries have more women than men. Look outside your country.

Don’t worry the Beijing Govt. is looking into two solutions

1.) male- male relations resulting in babies.

2.) Artificial wombs for chinese males.

3.) compulsory female child birthing for all single males with artificial womb attached to their butt and clone impregnation.

4.) import of African background females – Angola/Nigeria/ Burkina Faso….etc.

5.) male – male marriage and m to f sex changes.

6.) Govt. funding to teach homosexuality…..WHAT?!!!ktvs will be out of business!!!

For young ‘Lizzy here I say “suck it up princess!” keep your hands off other peoples sexuality and stop playing victim.

          • elizabeth

Lol! I am past the age of sucking my thumb. Could do with a pacifier.

      • elizabeth

So perhaps the social activists are barking up the wrong tree here.

      • linette lee

And call me evil, I don’t care. I hope all those fathers and mothers whoever abused, aborted, killed, mistreated their daughters. I hope their sons will never get wives so they can’t have any grandchildren at all. HAHAHA FOR YOU!

    • Mighty

Let’s be a bit more realistic here, historically, it has been impossible to eradicate the human kind’s oldest profession. Like it or not, it’s here to stay. Sure, every now and then, raids will curtail the activity temporary but it will be back to ‘business as usual’.

Thanks to the ‘One Child Policy’, it IS a fact that Chinese men have to vie for a potential wive. Without a house and a car many men are ‘priced out’ of the running for the ‘ideal’ wife.

Judging from the photos, these are not the most attractive women and obviously don’t posses a college degree or other work related skills. You are right that no sane woman would willingly and happily embark on such a career. But the majority, if not all, are pressured into doing so out of desperation such as to pay a debt or to help care for a family member. (I’m sure not for college tuition). In a few instance, one may be forced into it by a trusted boy friend who turned pimp. Whatever it may be I’m sure it was NOT the choice they had dreamed of.

The focus should be more on their well being to ensure their good health and not exploited by pimps.

      • elizabeth

Well-being? How well will anyone, who is forced to prostitute herself, feel?

Good health? How healthy can a woman, who has slept with countless men, be physically and psychologically? Not to mention how society views them. That’s the problem, those who make use of them will never themselves marry them but instead despise them.

And because of the one-child policy, you expect women to sacrifice so that men, the ‘victims’ of that policy can be excused for their own lack? That is so sexist, not to mention cowardly, making victims out of the innocent because one dares not face up to the actual source of perceived problem.

        • Mighty

You are twisting everything I said. I pointed out the ‘Policy’ to address the difficulty of finding a wife. I am not saying they are victims because of it.

Since the problem can’t be eliminated why not work to improve the condition for everyone? That’s what I meant by ‘well being’. Are you saying that because they’re prostitutes they don’t deserve better care? I can twist things the same.

It is people like you, who goes off on the wrong perception that men are being sexist, oppose others from making any progress.

          • elizabeth

On further thought, the one-child policy is not the problem. It is the mindset of those Chinese who only want a son.

So how does legalizing prostitution improve the well-being of prostitutes? Or am I reading you wrong again?

          • Mighty

They will be required to regular tests and check ups for a start. There are other ‘advantages’ like a union, etc. Also, this will likely do away with pimps. Local gov’t will be the pimp as you’ll probably have to pay income tax. If it’s legal it will be by choice and not by force.

          • dorogba

            i totally agree with you.

          • linette lee

            ………Local gov’t will be the pimp…………..

            hahhaah….lol. Outrageous!

          • Mighty

Some of the corrupt officials already are acting like pimps. So might as well.

          • dorogba

            legalizing prostitution decreases sex crime.

          • elizabeth

            How? Please elaborate.

          • Mighty

There’s a direct correlation. Even that Indian guy here admitted that because there is no outlet for them his country men have turned to rapes.

      • elizabeth

Why would any woman choose to prostitutes herself? Why would such a person want to subject herself to humiliation, making it public through unions, undergoing tests, etc.? Why would she want to pay taxes from her hard-earning money? In what ways will she benefit?

Who pays for the tests? The prostitutes? The public? Who pays for the costs of maintaining this legal system? Who benefits most?

Will all this solve the underlying problems of impoverished people in China?

        • Mighty

          • elizabeth

It would help more for you to answer my questions.

          • Mighty

            The answers are there. Cheez.

          • nickhz

this elizabeth girl has downs syndrome

          • elizabeth

An personal attacks are symptoms of incompetence?

          • nickhz

where are you from? seriously…. im concerned for you

          • nickhz

have you ever been put in a situation that is out of your control? where there is no available help from others? probably not…. so until you actually have to do what is neccessary and available to survive you should take it easy on others

          • Mighty

She needs to live step out of the shell and experience reality.

          • Mighty

Ok, here’s one sample how it helps:

“Peruvian sex workers urged the government on Friday to regulate their profession, saying it would protect them from violence and help stop the spread of sexually transmitted diseases. Although prostitution is legal in Peru and in much of Latin America, sex workers said prostitutes should be allowed to work under license in ‘tolerance zones.’ To get and keep a license they would have to register with the government, submit to regular health checks and pay taxes.

‘People have to understand that it’s not simply about a whore standing on a street corner, it’s a woman, a lady who’s working,’ said Angela Villon, president of the Civil Association of Sex Workers, at a news conference….

According to the health ministry, there are around 60,000 sex workers in Peru, 14,000 of them in the capital Lima, although Villon said she believed the true figures were higher.”

          • weg

            omg you are ALWAYS here…
the stickiest cockroach of all time…

          • Mighty

“An personal attacks are symptoms of incompetence?”
            Hypocrisy at work.

          • elizabeth

            Merely asking a question :D

          • Mighty

I’ll be the cockroach. You , the cocksucker.

          • elizabeth

            Again, fundamental question:

Do these sex workers have a choice not to be sex workers?

          • elizabeth

Yes, helping them dig deeper into their pits.

    • Dave

“No woman who is sane would willingly and happily take up prostitution as a job, and have sex with someone she does not love.”

      Who’s to judge?

Back in the states I knew strippers who did it simply because they enjoyed attention and money.

      • Mighty

And they all say, “I’m paying my way through college”.

        • elizabeth

Would you do that if you had other means to pay your way through college?

          • Mighty

Of course not. But that’s the main excuse used by strippers.

          • elizabeth

If you won’t, why will, they if not due to circumstances?

          • Mighty

Clarification: Dave said strippers do it for the money. I agreed by adding their overused excuse for doing it is to pay for college. C’mon, they all drive Benz and Channel bags.

          • elizabeth

Then, they are not the same as the prostitutes here. They are not being exploited so there is no need for the laws to protect them.

Any woman using sex for attention or money without being forced into it is not sane. She has serious issues that need to be addressed.

A normal woman would want to make love only to the man she loves. It’s different for men.

          • nickhz

you talk about what is normal, like you make the rules on what is normal…. prostitution has been around longer than any of us and will be around long after…. what one person thinks is “the right way” isn’t always “the right way”. are you to say that you are normal? i’m sure there have been more than a few instances when this has been debated.

          • elizabeth

So what is normal to you? Would you sleep with someone you don’t love, for attention or money?

          • nickhz

it’s not about what is normal to me… this is society…. these are very normal tings in our society… i come from a country that is very strict against prostitution, but it is still there…. and for years you wouldnt hear anything about it… now they have legalized private prostitution and at least children and innocent people dont have to be exposed to seeing them on the street… it’s going to happen, no matter what… so the gov should try to keep it out of the publics face…. and kidnapping to sell into the sex trade buisness is horrible but you can’t stop it from the pimp level or the brothel level…. it an international issue of corrupt officials and horrible people

          • elizabeth

Precisely, sweeping the problem under the carpet. Again, is it normal for you to sleep with someone you don’t love, for money or attention? That was my point to Dave and Mighty. Nothing to do with what is a normal system.

          • nickhz

i sleep with people i don’t love all the time…. it would be nice to get some money for it occasionally. i work my ass of sometimes haha

          • elizabeth

And yours is not a ‘fairy tale’.

Why don’t you sleep with people you don’t love?

          • nickhz

            why do I?

          • elizabeth

Because it is normal to you.

          • nickhz

because im a realistic individual who doesnt think that having pre-marital sex is the devils work

          • elizabeth

            That doesn’t answer my question.

          • nickhz

you asked why i do it…. because i want to. but i dont preach it onto others…. “go have sex with who ever you want,
            It is normal”

          • elizabeth

No, I asked why you don’t it with someone you don’t love since you claimed it is normal.

Enough of decoys. I am done with trolls like you.

          • nickhz

i cant understand you because you constantly phrase your questions wrong… also you say it is different for men and women, like men are the only ones sleeping around without loving the other person? and i do “do it” with people i don’t love…. and its great… try it sometime… it might losen that stick up you ass

          • elizabeth

            Very simple question:

Will you sleep with someone you don’t love, for attention or money?

Any simpler, you’ll have to go back to school for English 101.

          • Mighty

Simple answer: Yes, if I’m desperate for money.

          • nickhz

absolutely… if i cant get a job because of whatever reasons and i have a child that my dick husand abandoned me with, that child needs to eat. so i would do anything to ensure it’s survival

          • elizabeth

            Bingo. ‘Desperate’.

          • Chinggis was here

Are you experienced in this field, Elizabeth? Oh, I see,
you’re using; I’m a woman and therefore using an argument from authority. Have you ever worked as a prostitute? Been to a brothel? Used the services of a prostitute? No? Well, then I’d suggest that some of the posters here would have
            much more experience than you.

What makes you an expert as to why a girl chooses to sell her body? There are numerous reasons for this.

You talk of love, insane and ‘normal women’. Currently, it is ‘normal’ for a girl in Shanghai only to marry a man who has a car, apartment and a good job, as such; it appears love has little to do with that arrangement. In my opinion, that is insane.

As mentioned the most effective solution to the issue at hand is to decriminalize/legalise and regulate the industry. At least legalising prostitution goes a long way into removing the power of pimps and gives the girls some protection under law.

What gives you the right to be the moral crusader against individuals who freely choose to sell and buy sex?

          • Mighty

Sigh…. hopeless. That’s what I’ve been saying, they are not forced. They’re doing it out of “desperation due to debts, etc”.

          • nickhz

i will sleep with who ever i want for what ever reasons i want and it’s nobody’s buisness but my own… and this is why i give you a hard time about it… it is nobody’s buisness why people do what they do and we dont get to say what is normal… because we are not “normal” in every country or every culture. move it out of the public eye so children and innocents are not subjected to it and shut up about it….

          • elizabeth

You giving me a hard time? You can’t even answer my question to the point.

No wonder you like sweeping things under the carpet.

          • nickhz

what is wrong with your brain? you have been answered tima and time again… i have told you more then once… look at the posts… you didnt answer me… where are you from? i would like to know what culture raised you to think this way

          • Mighty

Let me guess. Catholic, for a start?

          • nickhz

            preacher bait

          • Mighty

You think it’s morally wrong and unethical and a shame. But, God forbid, if you ever find yourself in their shoes, hope you will be more understanding toward these poor souls whose lives are already ruined. So why not help them live under better conditions?

          • elizabeth

I said nothing about morals. You and your buddy are trying to pick a fight.

          • nickhz

i dont even know this guy, but he seems to know what he’s talking about…

          • elizabeth

            Birds of the same feather…

          • Jin Ch’in

Look mighty i think you found some white cock who is interested.

          • Mighty

I don’t know this guy either but he’s right on every account.

          • elizabeth

I put myself in their shoes and what I wish for is help for me to get out of the miserable existence of having to sleep with men in order to survive.

          • Mighty

Has it occurred to you that this same ‘thought’ of yours isn’t going through their minds?

          • elizabeth

Has it occurred to you it might have?

          • Mighty

I’m sure that’s exactly what’s going through their mind and they’re helpless. That’s why they need help and not be ostracized by people like you.

          • elizabeth

Troll. Last post to you here.

          • Mighty

My definition of a Troll is ‘Jin’, who only flame nonsense. I thought we were having a debate. Anyway, good night.

          • weg

Don’t define things. Don’t have debates.
            Most importantly, don’t label people.
You definitely are not smart enough to do this.

          • weg

            Was intended for ugly mighty.

          • nickhz

maybe they are wishing for help, and maybe that help isn’t coming… you should go help them… but you probably think they are disgusting

          • elizabeth

I think encouraging people who need help to sink further into their pit is disgusting.

          • nickhz

it’s not encouragement…. it’s life… their struggle not yours… if your not willing to help them you should not be willing to condemn them

          • moody

The real evil is forced prostitution, your rethoric should stop there.

          • elizabeth

It would help for you to define ‘forced prostitution’.

Fundamentally, people are forced into prostitution due to circumstances.

          • moody

Forced prostitution to me is one person being forced by another person into providing sexual services she would not be willing to provide if not forced.

          • Mighty

            She just doesn’t get it.

          • moody

well i understand that sex workers are forced into it by a set of circumstances.
but it’s sort of a retarded remark, we are all forced into just about everything by circumstances.

control is just an illusion that we hold dear

          • Mighty

I tried to tell her that most women are pressured into it out of desperation due to a debt, to care for a family member, etc. Then after going around in circles she asked ‘would you do it’. I said ‘Yes, if I’m desperate’. You said, ‘Bingo! Desperate’. That’s when I say, ‘Duh..’.

          • nickhz

also… people constantly sleep for others without love being involved…. grow up…. have you ever only slept with someone you truely love? ahhh thats romantic…. this isn’t the real world peter pan

          • elizabeth

Do you sleep around for attention or money? Drop the decoy.

          • Mighty

            haha… busted!

          • Probotector

“Would you sleep with someone you don’t love, for attention or money?”

Maybe not for money, but many people these days sleep with someone they don’t love in order to get some sort of attention.

          • Sam

Or for one night stands, and there are women who do this simply because they enjoy sex. So the idea that women only have sex because they love someone or only because they have “issues” far from reality.

          • Mighty

NO they’re NOT. We were talking about ‘strippers’. Jeez.

          • elizabeth

Precisely. What’s the relevance of strippers in this discussion?

          • Mighty

I was just commenting on what Dave said about strippers. Wasn’t saying strippers are prostitutes. Geez.

          • jeffli

thats the point! work for $5.00/hour in a cafe 40 hours per week always behind in your assignments, or….do two nights a week 4-6 clients and plenty of time to study. Of course don’t serve uneducated factory workers but be a little upmarket. Do S&M and immediately double the income with less “sexual contact”
It beats working in a cafe or office for some wrinkled up lemon!

          • elizabeth

            Er, speaking from experience?

      • elizabeth

        Are you a woman?

    • Jin Ch’in

Most of these woman do it because they have no morals and are lazy so spreading their legs is an easier option then working.

      • elizabeth

These women are not forced into prostitution and legalizing it will only encourage more of them to do it while making it easier for traffickers, and worse for victims.

        • moody

legalizing it would put an end to traffickers, no more abductions for that purpose.
no more kids forced into taking drugs so they’d submit more easily.
          you are missing the point

          • elizabeth

You are missing the point. Legalizing it only makes prostitution and trafficking legal. It does not stop abductions or drugs.

          • moody

            legalizing it makes prostitutions legal
i doubt there is much human trafficking in the Netherlands
I doubt that they sell kidnapped/drugged up girls to Netherlands brothels

          • elizabeth

            We are talking about China.

          • moody

Sorry then my bad, i was talking about prostitution in General.
seem i totally missed the point

          • Jin Ch’in

Australia still has human trafficking for sex work and they have a legal sex work industry.

Regardless of legal or illegal this type of industry just like drugs or gambling will always have gangster operation.

          • iLL

You act like once its illegal, it will always draw gangster. Alcohol was once ill legal runned by all the gangster, don’t see them running it still in the USA. Gambling in Vagas was run by the mafia, don’t see them anymore.

          • Jin Ch’in

Actually Alcohol industry has a huge commercial underground market its also used to launder money for terrorist actives. Gambling “don’t see them anymore” HAHAHAHA! you must be a child or really closed off from world news.

Gambling, All forms of drugs like alcohol, tobacco and Sex works whether legal or illegal will always have gang related activities in any country.

          • http://500px.com/justinrjones whiskersthecat

“Actually Alcohol industry has a huge commercial underground market its also used to launder money for terrorist actives.”

Haha which beer company is responsible for this?
I had no idea that my Hoegaarden drinking was funding Al Qaeda.

          • iLL

So tell me where is this “underworld” alcohol? in the middle east….maybe because some of them are dry countries. Tell me where in a legal country does alochol run on the black market? Show me an article? Anyone can make up things on a forum. Being a troll must be a full time job for you “HAHAHA”, you must be a child or really closed off from the world news to realize Vegas isnt runned by the mob anymore. “HAHAHA” child

          • Mighty

He lives in his own world.

          • iLL

most trolls are people with not many friends, or have social problems. Also some trolls are just pure lonely with nothing going on in there lives, so they go on forums to make themselves laugh. I do feel sorry for her.

        • Jin Ch’in

Clearly it would not make a difference if its legal or illegal because it takes a type of person to enter this kind of “job” Australia has a legal escort sex industry and you still get stories of forced sex trafficking.

These women have many options to them but they do not want to earn an honest wage and lured by fast quick money.

          • elizabeth

It makes a difference. If it doesn’t, why legalize?

The question is, who benefits more and who suffers more if it is legalized.

          • Jin Ch’in

The large % of people who enter this industry do so because of drug abuse so the question who suffers? its the community they live in that suffers because it spread STD and gang related crimes.

People make choices in life and if you made the wrong one you can always correct it but if you choose to continue then they have to bear the life they have chosen.

          • mr.wiener

Whilst I would agree that people can make choices with their live, someone who has , by his own admission, gained his place in society by the wealth of his family would be less than credible when commenting on this.

          • Jin Ch’in

There’s lots of people who come from extremely wealthy family have lead their lives down this path..famous example Edie Sedgick, Hans & Eva Kristian Rausing, Casey Johnson and Sunny Von Bulow to name a few.

Yes coming from a well to do family gives you a better start in life but choices you make in life are your own. If you do stupid things then you get what is coming to you. We all get chances to fix our mistake but these type of people do not see their mistake and keep making the same ones over and over. So they are better of dead then living this misery and spreading their misery to innocent people.

          • mr.wiener

So in summation, neuter the poor and slaughter the whore?
I weep for a future which has people like you in charge of it.
Fortunately I see better things for china than a boot being ground into a human face for the rest of eternity.

Sleep well and dream not of the lash cracking on human backs.

          • Jin Ch’in

I’m all for population control at any cost even if the currency is in human life.

          • mr.wiener

I’ll assume you think you are too “useful” to be the spare change.
These ladies ,however wretched their circumstances, are using a part of their anatomy that at the least gives some small measure of joy and release to some humble soul in a park at night in Foushan. I doubt you could say as much , as not only do you lack a vagina, you also lack the same depth and warmth.

          • Jin Ch’in

The only reason why you would support this industry is because you are the target market. You take pleasure in exploitation of the 3rd world female and binding them into this life style.. suits your needs and want.

Good luck to you and your dirty life of spreading STDs and misery.

          • Khanthology

ms. wiener would not incorporate girls into his lifestyle. but protect the boys from him.

          • mr.wiener

I thought you said I only supported this industry because I was a hypocritical Anglo-Saxon? [Anglo -Irish actually]
You mean now I have to go out at night trying to drag young women down into a life of exploited degradation just to meet your expectations?
Sounds too much like hard work to me.

          • iLL

I agree with you. I am totally all in for population control. First act is to kill the person who suggested it. #troll

          • Khanthology

i’d throw you and your loved ones into the slaughter as well. my world will be clean of dirt like you and ms. wiener.

          • mr.wiener

Naah, let’s cull the short people 1st :)

          • Thor

Guess how much sex trafficking and abduction would there be without the legal industry ? Traffickers can and will traffic anything, whether it’s sex, gambling, drugs, alcohol, guns, iron, even oil tankers (piracy) or whatever you may think about as long as they can pull big money out of it.

    • Anna

Then the question is those who are victims of circumstances is it wrong to punish them if its there only means of making an income to say fed themselves or their family.

China’s welfare system isn’t anywhere near the same level of the West’s and it shouldn’t be fair to judge what happens in China on so-called Western Christian standards when a few Western countries/states have legalised brothels.

      • elizabeth

Then it is a question of how to help them get out of their predicament, not encourage them to sink deeper, since they obviously do not want that kind of life.
If it is a problem of abandonment because they are unwanted girls, then educate society to change their mindset. Other ways are to provide them with homes, education and training so that they can be equipped to earn their livelihood through better means. It benefits society in the long run to have educated and trained citizens who can contribute by working in productive jobs.

Legalizing does nothing to help these people get out of their hell hole. Those who choose to stay despite the availability of other avenues are only victims of their own doing. Does it do society more good to have more of these people?

        • Anna

When the question is, is the money better invested in trying to get jobs and training for everyone in the country or do you divert funds from helping the majority poor so people never fall into this trap or to help a minority poor. Maybe it would be better if you explained with those money you would help them. China maybe rich on total GDP but its poor in terms of per captia.

Is it fair to punish someone who’s only option is to sell their body when they have no access to the things you mention? If you simply punish them it only makes things worse for them.

While legalization on a whole may make things worse, criminalization of those who need it for income is unfair and even make it worse for them.

          • elizabeth

So you’d rather make things worse and then legalize it to make things even worse. Do you expect to rise to developed nation status with that? Or the problem to disappear?

Yes, you mentioned training and education, why can’t these people be educated too? The problem is not per capita. It is a question of whether the rich are willing to distribute their wealth more generously.

You need to be a more charitable to each other. No doubt foreigners can chip in, but don’t expect miracles if your own rich are not willing to cut down on their number of Porches or Chanels.

          • Anna

I rather China focus as a whole than a minority, would you rather have the people suffer longer, live in poorer conditions longer. I would have rather have toasands than millions suffer?

No, your the one who mention training and education,

“Other ways are to provide them with homes, education and training so that they can be equipped to earn their livelihood through better means”

I’m asking you how you go about it. You claim legislation is wrong because it will cause more suffering. I’m claiming its wrong to criminalise those trapped in a trade due to their economic status.

The problem is about GDP per captia, with 4 times as many in China people vs USA (bad example), you will need 4 times the amount of things and simply put China GDP isn’t 4 times that of the USA. Or simply put you need 4 times as much the stuff, education help them on a proportional level to the USA but China does not have 4 times the GDP as the USA.

Why should Chinese porche owners pay when its the governments job make their country better, I’m sure these porche owners pay more taxes and at higher rates to their government than you do, and even so its rubbish to say that they don’t help, philanthropy is on the rise in China thanks to people like these. Even if the rich did distribute their money evenly China would still be poor simply because of the size of its population, aka its poor by its GDP per captia.

          • elizabeth

‘is the money better invested in trying to get jobs and training for everyone in the country or do you divert funds from helping the majority poor so people never fall into this trap or to help a minority poor.

What ‘majority’ or ‘minority’ poor? Poor is poor. How poor is your majority poor, compared to minority poor? Or do you mean there are poor who deserve more help than other poor? And yes, training is education.

‘Why should Chinese porche owners pay when its the governments job make their country better, I’m sure these porche owners pay more taxes and at higher rates to their government than you do,’

Taxes? Where do the taxes go? Taxes isn’t charity anyway. Making a country better is the responsibility of both the government and people.

‘and even so its rubbish to say that they don’t help, philanthropy is on the rise in China thanks to people like these.’

That is a tad too defensive. I said ‘more charitable’ and more ‘generously’.

          • elizabeth

‘Estimates of the numbers of prostitutes in China range from 3 million according to officials estimates by the government to 10 million by the U.S. State Department to 20 million by one Chinese economist.’

Let’s take the estimated middle figure 10 million, and assume they all live on 2,300 yuan a year (China’s rural poverty line).

‘According to Hurun Report, and in Chinese yuan terms, the country had 875,000 multimillionaires and 55,000 billionaires in 2011′

That’s 930000 multimillionaires to sponsor 10 million on 2,300 yuan a year which works out to be about 24,730 yuan per multimillionaire a year or about 2,060 yuan a month.

That isn’t too much to ask of a multimillion or billionaire, is it?

Those who are not millionaires can can volunteer to teach computer or literacy skills. With such a big population helping to chip in, it not an impossible task.

The question is, are they willing to?

          • Anna

When that leaves the question Why should I not be a prostitute to get a
handout. I may as well be / claim to be a prostitute because they are
rewarded now. Not only that there is no evidence to prove that numbers
            would fall.

Not only what but what about the other 170 million +
classed as extreme poor, ain’t there needs equally justified for help by
these millionaires? Giving prostitutes handouts may seem idea to you
but it will not solve the problem what you need is a solution which can
bring more higher paying work, more education, more chances to the masses so they
don’t fall into this in the first place.

But to still doesn’t address the point
that’s its wrong to criminalised people who due to their economic status
are forced into this kind of work.

          • elizabeth

Well, you may try living on 2060 yuan a month.

I have given you a solution to help prostitutes to be equipped to get decent jobs so that they will not be punished by the law because they will have alternatives. So what’s the problem now? Leaving prostitution illegal will then only affect those who insist on remaining in that state. Then, that is their problem if they choose to break the law.

Help the 170million+? By all means please do so but your excuse was there is not enough money to go around what with all that flimsy per capita talk

So what do you want now?

Me to stop harping on how the rich can help so they can migrate to the land of the free without being bogged down by a sticky obligation to their motherland?

Sure. I have said enough. The ball is in your court and you shouldn’t take offense at comments that your country is a hopeless case or anything to that effect if you keep playing the poor little rich girl one who refuses admit you can actually do something about it.

          • elizabeth

Nope, it’s 2300 yuan a year…and see if you wish to pretend to be a prostitute to get handouts.

          • Anna

No, all you done is given a unpractised proposed idea that has no factual backing that it will work.

We’re not going to agree on this, however, I would suggest that you should run an experiment yourself and live on daily poverty limit for a year. Which has to include all your bills, rent (sharing allowed) etc, but I think this would still not be a true control as you would had not been born into Chinese poverty and not had to fight for survival against the masses to received a good education to an better yourself.

          • elizabeth

Precisely, it isn’t a good deal pretending to be a prostitute so why are you so stingy about handing out a miserable sum?

And therein lies one of the reasons why China remains with a sticky ‘copycat nation’ label – you guys are playing it too safe, only willing to give something a try if it is guaranteed to work. Absolutely no sense of zest to try uncharted waters even if there is a possibility of things getting better.

Not sure if it is risk aversion or the unwillingness to part with your money it is a sure bet. Hopefully, you do not reflect the leadership of the country or the majority of Chinese.

          • Anna

Because, unfortunately Elizabeth China its a cash based country, if you have no cash your in bad luck how do you get cash to better yourself. How can I better myself with education because I came from a backwater rural village and was unlucky to get a place in higher education, how to I get the money to pay for my courses via from some second way, travel to another bigger hundreds of miles and live where for the off change you get work when my town is full of competition, apart from working in KTV bars or taking some low wage job that provides for me but can’t give be income for enbetterment.

Even with 2000 a month coming in it not that great, in a rural village 2000 rmb may get you a life that comfortable but your still not well off in case of an emergency, a fathers friend had to have a heart splint put in at a cost of 50,000 rmb it hasn’t driven her into prostitution but its put hardship on her family who earn about only just more then the price you mention. And once upon the West had to go through these troubles and without reform driven by their economic backing they would had got no were.

Its all well to tell us to educate our self, be motivated is fine but the infrastructure, social/educational, industrial networks ain’t there yet and it will simply take time to build then and fine tune them. To say that we don’t have the zest for uncharted waters is absurdly BS, economic growth have driven reforms in scientific output, which is overtaking the USA, education, health, law, “rights” and invontation but we still have a long way to go, its not the time to focus on minority things. Even the West had its problem with prostitution when it was poorer and growing but with development and economical growth it shed it off. With such a huge country don’t you think we know we have problems, with such a huge population its a ditomany we will ahve the most poor and the most rich the world will see have the most worse of things and the most best of things (in time to come), but still as of yet we are on average a poor country say we were not because a small population % makes big numbers of millions is silly.

Do you think prostitutes like the ones in the story do it because they want to, they do it because it is the only income they can get at the moment. They are the bottom of the barrel they need help from the government. The government needs to make stuff so younger generations don’t fall into the trap by brining more reforms and possible chances and not diverting until China is somewhat grown up n’t have been their in the first place do you say ok we make them this minority a priory or to you make the majority poor a priory. A better way to solution could be to make to make prostitution tolerated on a individual economic case by case and punish all other forms and heavy fine/punish the customers because simply throwing money at them from the rich to spend on betterment isn’t going to work when there are no places or you having to complete for places to enbetter yourself

        • Rick in China

You’re so arrogant. Get off your soap box, you don’t know anything about “all women”, or “all prostitutes”, and certainly not what they want or want to do. How can you possibly make a stupid statement like, “since they obviously do not want that kind of life”. How do you know? Your idiotic statement like no sane woman would be a prostitute is just a completely arrogant disrespectful thing to say to women who have. What do you do for a living? How would you like it if someone said “No sane woman would ever want to be a ….”.

Many women are ‘forced’ into prostitution, or tricked, get hooked on the dragon or whatever, but there certainly are women who choose to take it up without any of those factors in play. For some they like sex, for some they like money and think it’s the easiest way to get it. There was recently an olympian who was busted for prostitution in Vegas…not for money, not for any ‘forced’ or ‘tricked’ or whatever reason. I suppose you’re in a clearly superior position to say she’s “not sane”, right? Get over yourself.

        • Probotector

Some women do in fact choose to prostitute themselves. What you’re espousing is a populist, feminist diatribe that maintains that all prostitutes are some sort of victim. Granted, there are a lot that are, but not exclusively. I would have thought you’d be one of the first to call someone else out of they started generalising.

      • elizabeth

And please, this has nothing to do with ‘so-called Western Christian standards’.

    • mr.wiener

I’m guessing there are a lot more female prostitutes than male prostitutes.

  • (.__.” }

Boy, prostitutes are getting uglier and uglier each year

well the young and fresh ones work the culbs and saunas, then when they get older and worn out. they work the streets, the hookers evolution, so to speak.

Land of the Rooster – a well known punk band ‘the Pollution’ has accepted a new member in their long rebellion against nature. Because “screw the Tyrant Mother Nature”, according to overenthusiastic new member, Used Condom. “The thing about the Pollution is that, it is an expression of freedom” said Fei Fei, a long time fan. He further stated that “so far we have liberated our waste in public spaces, we have filled the void in various places with our voice, and why not release and mark our love where ever we pleased?”. The sentiment was followed by a synchronised shout “Embrace the Used Condoms!” by band members and fans. The veteran Pollution agrees and express their excitement towards the additional new member as it may allow endless permutation of their work and an increase in their creativity. “Fan can expect more from the Pollution this upcoming years. Fan can expect to be liberated from tyranny. Most important of all, fan can expect the pollution to be Badder than ever”, said their manager.

Awwwwww……. those condoms were useful, give ‘em a rinse and use them to hold my ponytail! lol

  • YourSupremeCommander

What about all these upper level backed saunas and clubs? Is paying to fuck in those places not a problem? Street walkers don’t pay them protection money or a share of their profits, this is why only they make the news.

  • Beijinger in Beijing

I’ve gotten escorts in other countries, but NEVER in China. Why? Chinese people are fucking nasty, and have terrible hygiene.

    • iLL

NEVER in China? Man its sad that the hookers in China even reject your money. At least you have your right hand

    • Monkeekong

Yeah! Even your rachet ass has standards!

  • George

    This is sad no matter what country it is in. And yet God wants to forgive the prostitute or harlots as much as any other sinner . And God sent his son, the Lord Jesus Christ to forgive sins and sinners by dying for all of them on the cross of Calvary 2000 years ago, he was buried, and rose from the dead the third day, was seen of men, and went back up to heaven. But the sinner must repent of their sins since God commandeth all men everywhere to repent and then believe on the Lord Jesus Christ as their own personal Saviour and Lord God to be saved from their sins and miss hell and have an eternal life in God’s heaven. And all sinners can come to him even now by faith and pray for his forgiveness of their sins and his cleansing in the sinless blood of Christ who makes new creatures that live right since if any man be in Christ he is a new creature ; old things are passed away behold all things are become new. This is found in the King James Version Holy Bible , the word of God. Sincerely ;

Surprising that people in a country as conservative as Chian have such viewpoints. People are quite liberalised and reasonable when it comes to matters of sex and prostitutes. Alas if only my native Korea was the same :’(
They are people same as us with empty bellies we must not vilify them so.

  • Ibyangin

Well, at least they use Condoms!!!

  • ericsson

the whores in Guangdong are some of the nastiest woman in china

  • Low

Leave the prostitute alone and go and catch bigger criminal for corruptions and robbers. The only thing relevant highlighted by the reporter is the hygience of the park with used condoms lying all over the place. That part must be resolved.

  • Dr Sun

Don’t get it, they would rather they didn’t use condoms ?????

  • Paneraman

seems like the police and government officials aren’t happy with ‘private’ prostitution businesses cause there are brothels (saunas) which are owned by them. Every time someone goes, they profit. But if the people go to the streets, they make 0 revenue.

  • A J

At least its safe sex :D

  • Frank

I think I can understand them , just in order to living them need money, in china, always hard to life

  • Martinho

I agree that prostitutes should not be victimised but most of those original chinese pseudo intellectual comments were clearly the misgivings of angsty little virgins or just idiots. “If the migrant workers can’t have prostitutes then they are going to have to rape people, so let them have prostitutes” A concerning number of them said that. Are they really that simple?

  • 45t4t455

dumb, family didnt look after the girls then they turn to this – then all the dummies come out in the comments says ‘prosties are great blah blah it’s ‘all good’. Thats verging on retarded, the same people claiming that it’s ‘all good’ are the ones neglecting to raise and spend time with their own kids thus ensuring the cycle carries on.

Cmon people stop being dumbasses and start to think more deeply about things. It’s not ‘all good’ and none of your daughters should have to resort to this. No excuse just because migrant workers exist, they can find a girlfriend just like every other man on the face of the earth so please stop making bullshit excuses and face REALITY.

  • heh

Im pretty sure those are man’s condom… not female… The guy wear it and dump it on public and the girl get blame for it…China government is pathetic treat woman like trash…asleast we know these girl keep themself clean…the most proud part. I dont see prove that they doing prostitution…The only crime here i see is littering …

Not far from Haizhu Square (the big soldier statue), there is a park where all these middle aged women give “massages” in broad daylight. Other women huddle around while the client then pulls out his cock and the “masseuse” gives him either a hand job or a blow job. There are 30 or more of these little groups of women who do this. And it is very clandestine. Just the way everyone is looking around and trying to be discreet.
