Chinese Police Repatriate Overseas Jihadists To Face The Law
Police forces recently repatriated 109 overseas Chinese staying illegally in Thailand who were planning to head to Turkey with the intention of traveling to Syria or Iraq to take part in “holy war”. The illegal immigrants are mainly from Xinjiang, with other repatriated including Chinese gangs in Turkey who organized stowaway activity and various Chinese workers at Turkish embassies in Southeast Asia who helped Chinese nationals illegally obtain official Turkish ID. Those caught will be dealt with according to the law. One netizen said their repatriation also posed a danger at home.

How many of these were wannabe jihadis and how many asylum seekers?

That’s a neat angle. . most non Sino news sites suggest these people are actually refugees trying to escape China because they are persecuted there and not allowed to practice their religion freely (Ramadan fasting, clothing etc. . .) Seeing how the Tibetan were treated. . I’m more inclined to believe the refugee story.

  • The last time I went to Xinjiang in 2012, people fasted and Muslims wore whatever they wanted to.
