Former Taiwanese President Changes Stance Over WWII RemarksFormer Taiwanese president Li Denghui has effectively changed his view of Taiwan being part of Japan during WWII and that there was no such thing as Taiwan’s war of resistance against the country after saying recently that he felt grieved at being a slave to the Japanese. Li’s former remarks were originally printed in right-wing Japanese magazine “Voice” in July, but a September 13 speech at a workshop held by student movement group Democracy Tautin negated them, with him also expressing that Taiwanese aboriginals were the true proprietors of Taiwan. One netizen said, “Take a hike back to Japan.”
