A small number of Hong Kong residents have held another protest over the issue of “parallel traders” in the Sheung Shui area of the region. One of the protesters was arrested during the event, which caused some shops to close after they swarmed around shopping malls and pharmacies. The protesters essentially want to “reclaim” Sheung Shui from the practice of mainland residents buying up goods from HK and then selling them off in the mainland, thus causing a goods shortage. The HK government has said the protest was “extremely irresponsible”. One netizen said they supported HK residents wrecking their own economy.
