Judges Who Falsely Sentenced Man To Death Reappointed

Two judges who sentenced an innocent man to death have been reappointed as judicial committee members of the Hohhot Intermediate People’s Court in Inner Mongolia. Hu Ercha and Guan Jing were responsible for the decision made during the 1996 trial of 18-year-old Qoysiletu, who was accused of raping and killing a woman at the female dormitory toilets of a textile plant in Hohhot. However, serial rapist and murderer Zhao Zhihong confessed to the crime after he was captured in 2005. One netizen said justice had no chance of being upheld under their reappointment, as their erroneous actions would continue.

Even if he didn’t rape and kill that woman, presumably as an ethnic Mongol he had committed several other crimes which, despite a lack of evidence, can be considered as fait accompli under Chinese jurisprudence. China has been one nation for more than 5,000 years and can never be split apart.

Certain disgraced officials in China have the requisite “guanxi” to be able to bounce back after being removed from office or sidelined for a while. Witness the two men involved in the melamine milk scandal; the railway officials who were sacked after the Wenzhou train crash, but who rose like phoenixes to command senior positions in the same ministry.

Riveting to be a spectator during these interesting and turbulent times.
