Macau Gives Residents Money to Combat Gambling Recession

The Government of Macau Special Administrative Region has passed a bill which will see all its residents receive a cash sum. The measure, known as the “2015 Cash Share Plan,” is to help reduce the impact that a year of falling revenues from gambling has had on the area. Those with permanent residence can expect to receive 9,000 RMB, with the remainder getting 5,400 RMB. The money will be distributed between July and September, with a total cost of 5.8 billion RMB. Many netizens were outraged, cursing capitalism and pointing out that many rich would also get the handout.
