Official Gets 12 Years For Making False Expenses
The Chief of the Houjie People’s Government Armed Forces Department was sentenced to a 12 year prison term for making false claims on the department’s special public funds to the tune of 4,201,742.7 RMB. Lin Weizhong was originally exposed in November 2013 over suspicion about him keeping a mistress, his 2 billion RMB in wealth, and his 100 plus apartments. A following investigation by the Dongguan Commission for Discipline Inspection revealed that between 2008 and 2013, Lin prompted fellow worker Zhong Pingwen to create and submit phony receipts for him. One netizen thought that 2 billion is worth 12 years.

That’s also why these punishments are usually not very heavy. Those determining these punishments are aware that they very well may be meted out to them if their patronage network falls apart.
