Old Man Dealing With Formalities Asked For “Life Certificate”
A 74-year-old man who went to the Hu’an Telecommunications Bureau to deal with formalities was asked by staff to go to his local police station to get evidence he was alive. The request flabbergasted the serving officer at the Huafeng station, who made his frustration known on the issued document, saying, “He’s standing in front of you alive, with an ID card and residence booklet, so is it really necessary to issue a life certificate?” Hu’an County Police Station staff member Mr. Chen later said the officer’s behavior was inappropriate. One netizen asked if the deceased had to get a death certificate in person.

I’d say the officer’s behaviour was totally appropriate.

IF the law says that then the law is an ass.
Oft times the intepretation of the law is very much up to the person behind the desk. This is just some johnny in office unpleasentness.
