Old School Friend Attaches Bank Number To Wedding Invitation

Netizen “Meng Rongqiu” recently revealed his bewilderment in an online forum over an electronic wedding invite he received from an old university acquaintance with a bank account number appended at the end. After reading the explanation from Xiao Liu that said it was for receiving monetary gifts in case personal attendance was not possible, Meng began to wonder if the invite was actually written by a fraudster. However, soon after, Meng got a call from Xiao Liu asking if he’d received the invite, upon which Meng said he wouldn’t be attending due to work. One netizen said too many people are like this now.

So I’m not at your wedding, eating nothing, drinking nothing and you want me to give you money? I give 500-1000euro when I’m attending a friend or families wedding, but when I’m not there I give nothing.

      500-1000 euro? Wow you’re generous. For me it’s US$100.

That’s normal for Chinese people in Europe. Usually it’s 300+ for family and good friends. If it’s someone I don’t know well then I give 100-300.

It costs nothing to ask and even less to say no. It’s sales 101 and it works pretty much worldwide. If 2-3% of the targeted market says “yes” it cost you nothing (except maybe your dignity) to make that money.

probably costs you your friendship. .but marketing type people don’t care if they come across as scum.

I would not be surprised to find out they spent a longtime making a list of every person everybody on both sides of the family ever knew and sent out thousands of invitations. As Vonskippy said, it is a numbers game.
