Restaurant Holds Ceremony Forcing Staff To Show Gratitude
A hotpot restaurant in Tiexi, Shenyang had a public ceremony in which staff members were effectively forced to show their gratitude to the establishment’s management for giving them jobs. The event saw staff kneeling and bowing their heads to the ground as they shouted, “Thanks to the management for giving me work!” The ceremony disgusted onlookers, whilst a psychologist said the event would have caused the staff to feel ashamed, fearful and anxious. A lawyer said it disrespected worker rights and could be illegal. One netizen said it should be the management thanking the staff for benefiting the company.
