Woman Preparing For Marriage Told To “Come Back Next Week”

A woman who made a 200km journey from Wuhan to her home town to change her registered address in preparation for her forthcoming marriage was told to “come back next week” by staff at the Household Registry Department of the Government Administrative Service Hall in Jianli. “Lili” couldn’t get her head around being told that the member of staff responsible for dealing with such affairs had taken leave for a week, asking why if one person takes leave the entire department has to grind to a halt. Some netizens were surprised the story made the news considering how common such situations are.

I went to the police station to register my apartment so i could renew my residence permit, and was told the guy was on holiday for a week. I asked if anyone else could do it, and they said no. Apparently there was only one person in the entire country with the authority to recognize that I was renting an apartment.
