Chinese Villager Set on Fire, By Demolition Crew or Himself?

@浣铁军: Demolishing and relocation – The blood curdling shrieks of a living person set on fire! Ripping apart the hearts of every Chinese person: The wretched sight of a living person being set of fire pierces the clear eyes of every Chinese person! Yet another elderly person burned like charcoal and close to death lies in the hospital! On October 14th, in the Yunfeng neighborhood of Xiangtang City, Hunan Province, and as a result of demolition and relocation talks that have been continuously failed, those responsible for the demolition recruited members of the criminal underworld to inhumanly beat up and then set on fire a nearly 60-year-old elderly man. The blood curdling shrieks of a living person set on fire! Ripping apart the hearts of every Chinese person!

Reposting/forwarding in anger! Many people say: You cannot change anything, life is what it is. But, if you want this world to become better, you only need to be a good person yourself. You can totally make this world a little bit better, even if it is just that little bit. Repost/forward, it truly is a kind of strength/power.

Dre_袁尒欣:

When these things become habitual, what meaning is there for the continued existence of this country?

I rarely repost/forward [“retweet”] this kind [of news], because there is too much. But this is truly unbearable, although whether this s true or bogus is still waiting to be determined.

Hunan Xiangtan demolition and relocation staff engaged in demolition of home without permission causing villager to self-immolate

Xiangtan city report, the news about Xiangtan demolition and relocation personnel setting a homeowner to be relocated on fire is an incident of the builder acting on their own to tear down the [victim’s] home causing the villager to set himself on fire. In order to get the engineering/construction project and without obtaining the permission of the relevant departments, Zhongtian Company project manager Qiang Yuqing and Xiangtan city Baota Street Yunfeng neighborhood villager Feng Changsheng (village party secretary’s brother) directly caused this villager Shi Ganming’s self-immolation. hmmmmm!

  • Rick in China

RE: “directly caused this villager Shi Ganming’s self-immolation. ” I hate how “facts” are thrown around so flippantly, first, you can’t directly cause someone to self-immolate. Next, we don’t have any facts to discuss in this story – other than there was an illegal demolition and a dude who was set on fire. By whom? Nothing to support either side (self-immolation or “gangsters” sent in) and a story like this is kind of stupid to post…nobody can comment beyond speculation and nonsense.

    • Getrealson

Agreed 100% but what is certain is that self immolation is a common occurance amongst Chinese, Tibetans, Afghani’s, Kurds and albanians. However very rare in the west. It’s happened a few times in Australia but were done by Kurds and albanians protesting homeland issues. People so desperate that this excruciating form of self harm/suicide is, in their mind, the last form of protest that can’t be silenced. What a way to go! One can’t help but think of Darwin in this perticular situation. Change is inevitable (Good or bad) and those who oppose it or don’t conform will perish.

      • donscarletti

In Australia? So some foreign tyrant causes the commotion and then Medicare pays to fix him back up after he burns himself. This is why we can’t have nice things.

        • Getrealson

mate, living in China has made me aware time and time again of just how many nice things we have. Love a sunburnt country!

      • JugsPutin

Interestingly enough, the West has plenty of self-immolation incidents in the last 30-50 years where it’s not exactly “very rare”. From all the 60s-inspired self-immolation incidents in Europe, to self-immolation in the States, etc… Check this out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_political_self-immolations

    • mr.wiener

Agreed Rick. There are no facts to support this, and beyond the willingness of most Chinese netizins to believe this about their own govt or officials and indulge in some indignant chest beating until they can find a story about some starlets fake boobs to beat off to nothing will be done about it [probably].

The only thing this story will do on CS is make a flame war between those of us who believe too strongly that the Chinese people are doomed to wallow in their own misery for the next 5000 years without change , against those of us who defend China too vehemently [usually conveniently living overseas].

    • Ruffled Feathers

Agreed, it’s wide open to interpretation, without even the bare basics of fact, but essentially, “guy burns to death… Whodunnit?”

    • grovesman

It’s just typical Chinese journalism. Raising more questions than answering. All too often I am left frustrated by the “reporting” done in this country.

  • Cynic

Who takes a picture of a human on fire? Wouldn’t instead throwing some dirt on them be the normal/correct thing to do?

    • Rick in China

I think people here are afraid to get involved in anything that has to do with injured people. I can see this happening: Guy is on fire, someone starts throwing dirt/debris on him to try to put him out, guy lives, sues the guy trying to put him out for throwing a stone mixed in the dirt or damaging him further in some way, ‘good samaritan” ends up having to pay this dude for the rest of their lives.

      • Cynic

        Your right of course.

      • Fraser Stewart

Yeah, what was the court case that happened in the Guangzhou (I think)? Something about a guy saw a hurt woman, took her to hospital. The woman sued him, and the judge ruled that logically the guy wouldn’t have taken her to hospital if he wasn’t the one who hurt her.

After that, nobody gets involved in anything involving anyone else. Especially not someone who is clearly hurt, or in considerable pain. You get involved, you’ll get in trouble. That’s the message the courts (government) in China puts out.

        • http://www.facebook.com/noah.altman Noah Altman

That happened in Nanjing, not Guangzhou. Hence “Nanjing Judge”

        • MRS

          we should change that.

      • MRS

        so sorry for that :(

    • Ruffled Feathers

“Who takes a picture of a human on fire?”

      Chinese people

      • Fraser Stewart

Yep, the old “stand and gawk”, rather than “go and help”.

      • Chom

oh, look who’s stereotyping! The same guy who accused someone else of doing the same in the high school principal sex story!

Is it any wonder we as expats and westerners in general are accused of hypocrisy and double standards???

        • Getrealson

“Is it any wonder we as expats and westerners in general are accused of hypocrisy and double standards???”

I’ve never been accused of that so now your stereotyping!

          • Silly boy

Oh my god, people. Everyone stereotypes. EVERYONE. It is part of human nature, because our brains are fundamentally pattern recognizing machines. Get the fuck over it already!

          • Ruffled Feathers

“Get the fuck over it already!”

            wtf?

Why don’t you? You started this argument

Sorry, I thought you were Chom. My bad.

          • Silly boy

@getrealson:disqus wasn’t directed at you in particular, yours was just the most recent comment about it lol

          • Getrealson

Slow news week on CS. On the other thread we’re arguing about grammar!

          • Silly boy

@getrealson:disqus I only recently started commenting precisely because the arguments were getting too retarded to bear any longer. Then I ended up getting sucked into it too :( (that sounds dirty)

          • Chom

That is just lame…who am I stereotyping exactly?

          • Getrealson

A stereotype is a generalisation. You said “in general” refering to a common occurance in reference to a select group of people “ex-pats and westerners”

        • Ruffled Feathers

How is stating that Chinese take pictures a stereotype of Chinese? It’s not a stereotype if it’s a well known and obvious fact. Chinese do take pictures of this kind of thing. Any expat who lives here knows they often take inappropriate pictures at inappropriate times, even if they’ve been told not to. Foreign teachers usually don’t fuck their students. Some might, but it’s largely a myth (loosely based on the fact that it occasionally may happen) that’s been concocted and spread by jealous Chinese who don’t like to see interracial relations between foreigners and Chinese girls,

          • Chom

It is s stereotype, and it is not “a well known and obvious fact” You just choose to notice those taking photos and not notice those who never do that.

Do people in China take photos in inappropriate situations? Yes, but not the majority and you can’t stereotype based on some people doing that.

Do foreigners piss on the street and start fights outside nightclubs Yes, but not the majority and we can’t stereotype based on some people doing that.

Yours was as much of a stereotype as the other guy you called out. sorry. Take your medicine and be more careful next time.

          • Ruffled Feathers

Um, yes all Chinese (who have a camera on them) will take pictures when it takes their fancy; it’s like a cultural thing.. Obviously you’re new to China and haven’t seen the full extent of their brazen impoliteness yet. I know you’re warped by liberalism, indoctrinating you to think that we’re all ‘equal’ and the same, but don’t worry, you’ll figure it out sooner or later.

          • Chom

I’ve probably been in China a lot longer than you, and judging by your screen name, you feel hard done by because things haven’t worked out for you here. So you spend your day on CS venting about China. Am I close? Take a look in the mirror, and stop projecting your problems. You can only control yourself, so you would be best server fixing your own problems first. If you’re interested I can recommend a book that may help you.

          • Ruffled Feathers

What book is that? the Communist Manifesto? Or one of Michael Moore’s works?

All trolling aside, your argument is that basically that if a person is upset with their life, it’s their own fault. Now you may be thick-skinned, or you may be oblivious, but the point is, it’s not that simple for some people, especially in the context of relentless xenophobia that we all (including you, sometimes, I’m sure) experience.

So let’s be constructive. Can you advise me on how to not let these issues get to me? How can I be as care free as you?

Also enlighten me: How long have you been here?

    • Lovely

This whole article is sick. I just can’t stand anyone being treated like this, to die so horribly then have his death pictures speculated online by detached strangers. If there is a hell, the moderators of Chinasmack have a special place reserved for them. Crap like this makes me angry. I don’t think I will come back after this which is probably good news to some people.,

      • Irvin

Not many of us can choose our deaths. When it comes it just comes. As to the speculation, it really doesn’t matter now, that body is just an empty shell.

However we talk about it or do to it wouldn’t bring him back or cause him further pain…….for he’s dead.

        • Rick in China

Nowhere in the article does it say he is dead. The original post says he’s in the hospital and “close”… although this information doesn’t address the sensationalism usually posted.

  • Jahar

On an unrelated note, there was an earthquake in western canada. magnitude 7.7. No damage reported. That one in western China was about a 5 right, killed a bunch of people and destroyed a bunch of stuff. I can’t imagine what would have happened if that was 7.7. I’m pretty sure the increase on the scale is almost exponential

    • zappa frank

well, maybe because Canada has a very low density of population. Houses are new, there are few poor people who live in unlegal buildings and so on… However, look what happen in itlay with a 4 degree erathquake..even worst than in china

    • donscarletti

Um, the Richter Scale is a logarithmic scale, meaning the increase quite literally is exponential.

For goodness sake Fraser Stewart. Wait until you’ve thought of something worth reading before commenting. In communist China, the fire catches you? What is the reverse of that question? You haven’t even made a copy-paste joke work. And who’s voting this nonsense up?
I can only assume they are voting for it to go further up the page as some sort of collective ironic joke.
      Hopefully.

      • Fraser Stewart

Things catch fire, or catch on fire. The reverse of “you catch on fire”, would be “fire catch on you”, but I left out the “on” deliberately to make it sound like bad English.

I certainly hope stupidity isn’t contagious, or your friends might catch it.

        • MrT

I caught it a long time ago, is there a cure?

      • fabulous

So your full joke is “In Halifax, you catch on fire. In communist China, the fire catches you.”

        • Fraser Stewart

No, that would “In the west, you catch on fire. In communist China, fire catch on you.”.

Also please remember to put punctuation outside of quotation marks, not inside. If you end a sentence with a quotation, it’s also advisable to use a double full-stop, or period, as I have done.

By the way, I’ve met plenty of English teachers here in China, who know far less about English grammar than I do.

          • fabulous

And the only thing you noticed was the punctuation?

          • Anon

Funny thing is he is wrong about the punctuation. Either way works and it’s only a matter of style. American style is to put punctuation inside and British style is put it outside.

            Source: http://blog.apastyle.org/apastyle/2011/08/punctuating-around-quotation-marks.html

          • Fraser Stewart

Wrong! Both styles are used in both the UK and the US, by many authors both American and British. I was well aware of the difference, my comment was pure sarcasm. I know a lot more about English grammar, both American and British, that most English high school teachers.

      • MrT

yea I’m voting him up, wink wink..

        • fabulous

I’m terribly sorry MrT. It turns out I may have infected you with stupidity.

Right, now I have never commented on Chinasmack (the amount of times that’s been seen before a giant tirade) but I always come on here to check out goings on. Unfortunately, quite recently, the comments section has become so unbearably whinged-fueled that I wanted to write this, and as it seems to mostly just be your comments, I’ll single you out.

Stop complaining about every single bloody event that happens, in a completely uninspiring, unfunny, and completely non-constructive way; you really don’t need to comment on every single story with the same cut-and-paste pure expat whingeing, about how “backwards” this place is.

It’s constantly the same frustrations, but yet not expounded on in any thoughtful way, for examples of this, see everything you’ve ever posted on here.

      Cheers

      • ScottLoar

Fraser Stewart is in a constant state of antagonism to everything Chinese, describing China as “this shit hole of a country”. I’m embarrassed for him, knowing full well that would he return to Scotland and say so he’d doubtlessly be accused – and rightly – by most within earshot of shameful prejudice and a closed mind. Surely his academic – and he touts that degree as a merit badge – colleagues would blush.

        • Fraser Stewart

Ever been to Scotland? Most Scottish people hate Chinese people more than I do. Scotland is the land of bigots, I’m actually pretty tame when it comes to bigotry.

Second of all, when I go online I don’t do so in any sort of serious way. I’m not a social scientist, and have no interest in researching Chinese society in any sort of meaningful way.

Thirdly, I have academic friends here, Chinese and foreign, who all have PhD’s, like myself, and who all agree with everything I say about China. The reason? Because in reality I actually expand on my thoughts in an intelligent thought out way. That kind of intelligent discussion is not suited for an online discussion, where people have little to no knowledge of formal argumentation.

If you are interested in my credentials about argumentation, I taught first year undergraduates at the University of Dundee elementary argumentation techniques. Most people online do not argue in any sort of intelligent way to warrant anything other than what I post here.

Thanks for your thoughts, it’s good to see that you judge people, without knowing, or even meeting them in person. Take care.

          Fraser

          • fabulous

Unfortunately, and this isn’t a judgement on you as a person, your comments aren’t very good. Readers and commentators on this forum expect a better sort of comment than you’ve so far been able to give.
You’ve come onto an obviously less-than-friendly forum and that can be hard for people who find it very hard to communicate with people socially. I think you should think about commenting a little less until you’ve got something you just have to say.

          • Fraser Stewart

Right… Makes perfect sense to me. We all come from democratic countries, that advocate freedom of speech. So of course, in this open discussion we would disparage people for writing comments we deem to be “not very good”.

I’m entitled to my fucking opinion, regardless of how I came about it. I’m also entitled to post comments, regardless of their fucking quality.

This is a fucking internet forum, for fucks sake. What do you expect? Most of the people on here can’t even tell the difference between “your” and “you’re” (see above). If you want intelligent social commentary about China, I suggest you google the numerous internet research papers available on the subject, otherwise I suggest you just shut the fuck up about what I can, or cannot post.

          • fabulous

            Okay.
            How about this then.
I apologise for the aggressive and pejorative nature of any of my previous comments toward you.

However, I still think you should be more careful with your comments.

          • MrT

don’t apologies you can say what you want!

            he just said!

          • Fraser Stewart

Why would I be more careful? It’s true I tend to exaggerate how much I hate this place, but that’s just my nature. If you want my truly honest opinion, I enjoy my life here for the most part.

The problem is certain aspects that I just can’t tolerate. Basically, I’m at the point in my life where I want to settle down, and China just isn’t that place for me. The reasons for that might be small and insignificant to some people, but to me they are things I’d rather live without.

Others also say “well why did you come here?”. The reasons for that are very personal, and numerous, but it doesn’t change the fact that once my contract is up, I’m leaving, and hopefully never returning.

So there you go. China’s not all bad, but the bad parts are “deal breakers” as far as I’m concerned. It’s a bit like watching a movie, where someone says “I liked it, but it had these problems”. A second person lists the same problems, and uses those as reasons for not liking the movie.

There are certain things in life you can put up with, and things you can’t. So while most people would agree with all of the bad things I say about China, they are probably able to tolerate it. I, on the other hand, simply cannot.

          • fabulous

You should be careful because we are not your friends.
There are people who care about you and what you are doing but they aren’t here.

Maybe it’s my culture, but I don’t think you should tell strangers – antagonistic strangers – your life’s story and personal details. I come here to read some interesting news from China and hear some lively discussion from people who have been in country for a while.

          • Ruffled Feathers

So when is your contract up?

          • MrT

            sooner then he thinks…

          • MrT

            democratic countries rock yay!

          • fabulous

The problem I have is that while some people make mistakes and others fly off on predictable tangents, you have synthesised everything that makes comments difficult to read.

Your comments are like someone who lands in Harbin in February and starts complaining about the cold. Like someone who after visiting Lijiang in 2010, revisits in 2012 and complains about how much it’s changed.
Why not start by reading the chinasmack back-catalogue.

            You can have your opinion.
            You can spell-check every comment.
You can defend your right to submit non-jokes as jokes.
You can swear as much as you like.
            I will democratically protest.

          • ScottLoar

Why meet you in person? There would be no improvement as your fatuous on-line remarks betray you.

But, no, I don’t believe you “have academic friends here, Chinese and foreign, who all have PhD’s, like myself, and who all agree with everything I say about China.” No, Fraser, Chinese do not nod in knowing agreement when someone called Fraser from Scotland comes to their country and after a brief while calls China “a shit hole of a country”.

          • seppo

i think meeting would be benificial.

      • Fraser Stewart

If you had something intelligent to say, you would have said it. What I read here, was verbiage.

      • Ruffled Feathers

You’re a prick. Please stop with the same old “I don’t like it because it’s negative, and so it should be stopped” bellyaching.

If you’ve got something contrary to say, you can deflect and counter-argue, instead of bitching that everyone’s too negative.

      • Germandude

I agree with you, Azeri. What actually is more disturbing than reading the same complaints over and over again (as if we didn’t know by now), is the shift in topics.

I mean, this article was about a guy being burned almost to death because he didn’t want to leave his home. The discussion here however ends up being infiltrated by language and grammar whores discussing about punctuation, typos and correct usage of quotations. Kudos to them.

On another occasion, 2 girls are discussing which underwear to wear in summer, while the topic on hand was also about somebody dying. Shall I call that cynicism or stupidity? It’s not that I am against sarcasm or anything, but many discussions are brought to a stand-still by almost always the same 6-7 people.

And on another note in case any moderator reads this: Please consider to remove this stupid “vote up/vote down” function. Even some here don’t behave like adults, I think they can judge by themselves if they agree with a statement or comment on it while reading. If it’s then worth commentable, they’ll do it. If not, well CS gets a click less. ANY forum that I have joined was degenerated by an upvoting/downvoting, agree/disagree, like/dislike system. All it does is creating fractions within the participants that target on individuals to show agreement or disagreement and encourages bandwagoners to join the flame war.

PS: to the grammar and spelling whores: if you find any mistake in this post, take it because it comes with my best wishes, I am not a native English speaker.

        • ScottLoar

It is not about grammar and spelling so you are safe. It is very much about one Dr. Fraser Stewart’s pretensions.

          • Cynic

If one does not condone another’s behaviour then ignore it. This is how it is often done in China.

          • ScottLoar

True, until that behaviour irks others to action, then everyone leaps in. This is how it is often done in China.

          • Cynic

ScottLoar, your right, that is how it is done in china. Reminds me of the so called witch hunt. Although this witch hunt is not entirely without merit, it is still partially a witch hunt.

I personally don’t have a problem with Fraser Stewart’s posts. They are a necessary ingredient in the china smack soup and I enjoy a lot of them. I, in one instance got great satisfaction from swapping simple one line observations and stories about chinese behaviour with him. Were his or my one line observations all encompassing, noting all the nuances and caveats in Chinese behaviour? Hell no. Were they based on personal experiences and observations that can be generalizable to some significant percentage of Chinese people, Yes. Were they well thought out and articulate, No. Does’nt matter.

Now that people are vulcanized against him others will be vulcanized with him. What’s the point? All I can see is a further degradation of what you are trying to preserve.

I was trying to imply the same thing to you in the post above that i wrote in the last paragraph.

          • ScottLoar

Witches were not real but the cause for misfortunes people cannot otherwise understand or explain, and so the hunt for witches. Dr. Stewart is very real and an outrageous racist who contributes nothing to understanding or explanation. Now he’s gone. Good riddance. The forum improves by his absence.

          • Silly boy

I have the sneaking suspicion that Fraser Stewart is the kind of guy who finds something to be miserable about no matter where he lives. He needs a strong dose of man the fuck up.

          • Cynic

if he’s pissed off at something then an online forum is a great place
to vent. he may not be able to get out what he wants in the real world. why do we need to get offended at his comments? we should be happy that through venting his frustrations here he will eventually improve. its better than him doing it in the real world. can some not just choose to ignore here? i’m new to this posting thing. only site i’ve ever done it on, but some other sites i have visited are insanely more raw than this one. i think Csmack is quite tempered and not extensively offensive. i’m quite happy with the balance. if it is cleaned up too much then it looses a lot of its diversity, which translates into a smaller scope, less people and singularly collective opinion. that is not good.

anyhow, gonna pee, take my dog for a pee, hope i dont yell at nosey chinese ppl outside, then go get drunk and play with my friends.

            bye.

          • ScottLoar

You describe Dr. Fraser as a troubled man needing more than a frat room to let off steam.

          • Cynic

I did not mean to. If in fact I did describe him that way.

          • ScottLoar

Cynic, from the description Dr. Fraser is a troubled man who needs more than a frat room like this to let off steam.

Your friends are waiting outside, and if the dog hasn’t yet peed the mess will make you late. Or, take a clue from others’ experience, mop up the pee with a jacket and leave it there.

          • Cynic

In cab on mobile. Addicted to this shit show. Until tomorrow. Just witnessed ebike accident with foreigner. Looks like she didn’t fleece him. Reinstils a little faith in china.

          • ScottLoar

You actually seem like a good fellow (note I did not say “goodfella”), contrary to many here. I’m in Shanghai; well, now, for some while.

          • Cynic

i’m balanced, but thank you for the compliment. i still hate china though. getting the fuck out soon. been in shanghai for a year. 7 years in the sticks. Shanghai is a paradise in relative terms and unique to china.

          • Ruffled Feathers

Oh, you funny guy. Do you think he’s actually going to understand that?

          • ScottLoar

Ruffled Feathers, it wasn’t that he understood, it was that you understood. Please, get up to speed.

          • Ruffled Feathers

Yeah, sure it was. Just lucky I stumbled across it huh? What’s the matter with you, you go out from our little spat trying to be the bigger man, then you troll me like this? I already know I bruised your ego, were you crying in your room all this time, trying to think of a way to get back at me? Grow up.

          • ScottLoar

Trying to be the bigger man? Trolling you? Trying to get back at you?

I’ll teach you a Chinese phrase, please take it to heart cause you’ll need to get used to it:

            人要吃屎的時候就咽了﹐不要嚼。

“When it comes time to eat shit just swallow, don’t chew.”

          • Ruffled Feathers

What’s the matter? Run out of original material?

          • Silly boy

Man, I could cut the sexual tension between you two with a knife. A really big knife. Not a chopstick, though, I still can’t cut things with those.

          • Ruffled Feathers

I think he’s just frustrated because I get more kudos than he does.

          • Silly boy

I understand. personally I’m aiming for more downvotes than anyone else…but I have some tough competition here!

          • ScottLoar

Ah, you’d heard it before but didn’t understand it was addressed to you?

          • Ruffled Feathers

Well, the butt hurt and sour grapes are strong with you, I’ll give you that.

          • Silly boy

Can’t we all just get along? You’re tearing me apart, Lisa!! :((

          • ScottLoar

I love that phrase; heard it from a Northern girl some short while ago.

          • Silly boy

Yeah, it’s actually pretty funny. You guys are really making my night more enjoyable. You have my heartfelt thanks (not actually trolling this time). I’m sure all – well, most – of us are good people anyway.

          • Silly boy

All I am saying is, if you’re gonna be a douchebag, don’t use your real name. The whole point of doing it online is the lack of accountability. By using his real name, he becomes accountable. He should have known better than to not only use his real name but also to try to use his position in a real university as leverage against us in petty e-arguments. Imagine someone was being a douche to you online, and then said “I’m right because I’m important in real life, here are my credentials”, it wouldn’t bode well for that person’s reputation were people to find out. Well, that’s exactly what he did. It’s not like I’m “witch hunting”, the meager info I did bother to find was readily and quickly available.

          • Cynic

I see what your saying. It makes sense. I also wondered why one would use their real name. I knew he would be easy to search out but never did. You posting links about him is a little fucked. Regardless of the ease in which that info was derived. There should be boundaries. Regardless of if the target does not respect said boundaries.

          • Silly boy

I like to fight fire with fire, even if it just ends up burning the house down lol. Hopefully he has learned his lesson already. It’s very unlikely anything will happen from the posts, anyway.

          • Cynic

Understood about fire on fire. I’m just put off by petty arguments, irregardless of if the other initiated the pettiness. Personal insults are lowly. I agree unlikely anything will happen.

          • Cynic

really? he’s gone? i noticed someone named guest that i pinned as fraser stewart. i may be wrong though.

at what point does one get singled out by self-righteous people and subsequently get shunned by others in the online Csmack community? just curious here, not fishing.

          • ScottLoar

You have enough experience of ChinaSmack past and present to know that one does not get singled out by a few self-righteous people leading others to shun. You already know the most obvious prejudice, the grossest ridicule, the most unfounded slander, all can pass here when masqueraded as personal opinion and free speech.

The self-righteous here? The English comments section is a frat house.

        • Ruffled Feathers

Yeah, you typed ‘fractions’ when I think you meant ‘factions’, sorry, but you were asking for it. Also, you’re not a native speaker of English? Guess that’s why your name is Germandude. Never saw that one coming. However, let me be serious and counter argue your point. As I said to Azeri, if you disagree with trolls or naysayers, like myself, you are welcome to deflect our opinions. This is called healthy debate. Howe boring would this be if everyone just said nice polite things all the time? Also, regarding the whole issue of going off topic, well’ that happens on an internet forum. Not everything you see will be to your liking; stop trying to control it.

          • Germandude

Ruffled Feathers, you are right, I meant factions, not fractions. Please don’t assume that I was pointing you out. I clicked on the reply button to Azeri’s post and somehow, my post showed up below yours which I haven’t read by the time writing mine.
I am not sure why you assume that I think you are a troll or a naysayer. I won’t point out names but assume most can count 1 and 1 together and know who is meant. After all, indirectly they were mentioned in my post. You were not meant.

          • Ruffled Feathers

I didn’t think you meant me, but i do qualify as a naysayer because i am negative a lot, but i stand by it

          • Germandude

I am negative a lot too. However I don’t get your reference to “qualify as a naysayer”. Naysayer in what regard?

          • Ruffled Feathers

In that I speak negatively about China, and usually refute people’s comments on here

          • Germandude

Which is perfectly fine, isn’t it? It just gets boring to read 100s of times “Oh my god, chinese barbarians. They spit on the streets.” Yes, we know. We have read and seen it before. Those are the comments I was referring to when writing “reading the same complaints over and over again”.

          • seppo

I think a meetup would be a good option. In my opinion it might normalise the comment exchange

          • moop

yeah, cause you’re such a tough guy, right?

          • Germandude

I guess seppo is the kind of guy that wants a meetup to show one his soap collection.

        • Kai

The voting was something a lot of people clamored for and I believe Fauna warned you all of how bad voting can be since cS has tried it before and wasn’t impressed with the results

Frankly, it works sometimes and it doesn’t at other times. Like you said, any voting system is subject to being abused and hijacked by a motivated group of individuals, whether it is about panda-bashing/hugging or simply disliking someone and getting one’s friends to gang up on them.

Voting isn’t a feature that can be turned off in Disqus so we’re stuck with it for the time being, Like the state of democratic processes in the real world, voting suffers from voter apathy and an over-representation from the extremes. The only solution is authoritarian or getting yourselves to vote more, consistently. I don’t know what else we can say about it.

I will however make the observation that this may be the first time I’ve seen a critical mass of backlash against the “China bashers” in a long time. I think both “sides” can bring legitimate perspectives to the issues presented, but it depends on how engaged you guys are. When one side withdraws, the other side takes over. If both sides could keep it civil even when passionate, I think that would be best.

          • moop

what backlash? i only see one dude getting reemed

        • Rick in China

          RE: Fractions & voting system
People in general fucking hate my ChinaSmack self. Look at my posts above, though – more “up” than “down” votes. Maybe some by people who hate my posts in general. I don’t think that the “factions” you mention matter much – plus, it’s an internet forum, who gives a shit if people vote your post down or up or whatever..does it really impact how you think? or impact you in any way at all? At least this disqus commenting thing is better than the old one – we can minimize threads we don’t like and see direct replies via mail.
RE: Grammar whores, again – who cares – they’ll “grammar-whore” themselves into realizing nobody gives a shit about their ideas when they spend much of their time criticizing grammar on an international forum rather than addressing key points for debate.

    • seppo

so where was is that a man ate the face of a homeless man, and then who filmed it in order to show it on tv?
who is the worst? shall we trade examples?

  • lonetrey / Dan

Not sure I like the vague-ness of the article & title. Speculation is something that’s pretty dangerous, especially when it involves something like this.

I’m sure there will confusion caused by the lack of details… hope Chinasmack keeps us updated, and will add facts to this article as they happen/are released.

    • Kukuku

How is speculation dangerous? Please elaborate.

      • lonetrey / Dan

Well, I don’t mean dangerous as in harmful to one’s health, or capable of putting people in mortal danger.

What I mean is that it can be dangerous to the rationale of people’s minds when they decide to make arguments and assumptions based on limited information. Haven’t many debates on Chinasmack comments section be ignited by ignorance, and then the patient (or hasty) rebuttal, and then a deliberate attempt to troll, and a self-righteous tirade for self-defence, and so on?

I’m just saying that it could easily become fuel for meaningless and hateful banter… which I like to skip. I suppose it doesn’t impact me too much, but I still like to keep that kind of stuff to a minimum, you know?

      • PassingBy

I guess it’s dangerous that we might cause a speculative information bubble, where new unvarified information is built ontop of old speculative information, eventually causing a truth crisis where we no longer know what are the facts of the story. The guy was set on fire for some reason, either by himself or by someone else, as the article points out, but lonetrey doesn’t want to rule out the possibility that he might have also done it out of sheer entertainment or by accident, cause thats another possibility that hasn’t been covered…

  • nolly fletcher

Song of the article … Moses in the burning bush .

  • nolly fletcher

How can we get Romney and Ryan to do this? Set themselfs on fire!!!

  • diverdude1

darn, that must hurt beyond hurting !! I had a relatively small 2nd degree burn one time (10 sq. cm +/-) and wow! that hurt ! I simply can’t imagine this poor fella. Brings to mind one of my pet issues: Euthanasia. Honestly don’t most people figure he would have been better off perishing at that time? He will never recover. He will most likely die in a few days. So, should he have to be aware of his situation, and live in agony for several hours/days on top of the initial incident? Wasn’t it bad enough that this happened to him in the first place ?

  • john

    china open your eye..

  • Lovely

What i don’t appreciate is seeing a picture of this as I first entered the site. I didn’t read the article because I don’t want to see uncensored violence to this degree on another human being. THIS IS SNUFF MATERIAL AND IT’S WRONG. Can chinasmack start putting edited pictures up and give people the option to click them if they want to view the real thing? I won’t come back to this site. This is a human being and it is a life that was senselessly tortured. I don’t get a kick out of seeing these type of images, I think it’s evil and inhumane to even show. I understand it’s ijmportant to have the unvarnished truth, but to put this out here uncensored is just horrible and DESPERATE for attention. Hiccups

    • Ruffled Feathers

OK, next Chinasmack post will by bunny rabbits, rainbows and sunshine. Is that gentle enough for you? Seriously, this is journalism, which reports what’s really going on in the world (or in this case, in China), and violence, although unpleasant, is more often than not a part of that. If you can’t bring yourself to come to terms with reality, then go back and bury your head in the sand – better to do that than posting useless comments.

  • Irvin

The guy must have thought it was a good idea until the burning starts.

But seriously, if you really are going to do something so……bold……do it in front of the government office.

Burning yourself on a patch of dirt is like peeing on snow in the middle of the night; you might make a difference, but it’s really hard to tell.

    • Fraser Stewart

That’s assuming he burned himself. Although I can’t honestly imagine why anyone government related would burn him. It would be easier to take him to a back room and shoot him.

      • Irvin

exactly, but I think if they burn him they can easily spin the story that he burn himself, since it’s kindda common in china and believable.

  • Jay K.

The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire. we don’t need no water let the motherfucker burn, burn motherfucker, burn<–alright who sang this song?!

    • MrT

      you?

      • Ruffled Feathers

Seriously, is trolling all you do? That and lame jokes? How about coming up with an intelligent rebuttal, or perhaps something friendly to say to people, assuming you have positive qualities within you.

        • MrT

I have none, I is fellow troll.

    • M.N

These lyrics which you wrote were in a song which was sung by Nelly.

    • mr.wiener

Blood hound posse I think. Great band.

  • Peye

From comments on this forum I must conclude that some of the writers should have had teachers or parents who pulled them 10cm of the floor by their ears. It might have helped to improve their lingo.

  • Liu Yang

@Fraser Stewart, you are running wild, so you need to stop trying to sound too intelligent. Your corrections about punctuation are well taken, but I would like to add that in English we don’t place the definite article ‘the’ in front of place names like you did:”Yeah, what was the court case that happened in the Guangzhou?”. This is what somebody from Scotland like you ought to know. Secondly, there’s nothing in English like “a hurt woman”, because ‘hurt’ is not an adjective. Mr. Fraser, “Those who don’t have wings to fly, should not tread on the wind”.

    • Fraser Stewart

First of all, my name is Dr Stewart. Second of all, you really should go back and study you’re TEFL some more. Sure I make typos all the time, I just can’t be bothered correcting them. The reason I point out other people’s grammatical errors is to piss them off.

For example, what you should have said what “Yeah, what was the court case that in the Guangzhou? [sic]”. You play “[sic]” after a grammatical error, to indicate that what you just quoted, is exactly as quoted (including the grammatical mistake).

Another thing, you do not place a period after a contraction if the last letter in the contraction is the same as the last letter in the original word. For example “Mr. Fraser [sic]…”, should be “Mr Fraser”. Also this sentence “This is what somebody from Scotland like you ought to know. [sic]”, is not only wrong, but actually highly racist.

Why should someone from Scotland have perfect grammar? Most people who speak English as their first language have awful grammar. We aren’t taught grammar in school. This is an internet forum, so I’m generally completely aware of the majority of my grammatical errors. For example, I’ve made several in this post alone, I just don’t bother fixing them, because it’s the internet so who cares?

In my professionally written documents, you will find very few grammatical mistakes. Also, what the hell does “running wild” mean? That makes absolutely no sense. If you want to quote Chinese proverbs, then try not to use the most retarded sounding ones. It’s better to say “those in glass houses, shouldn’t throw stones”.

      • ScottLoar

“Second of all, you really should go back and study you’re TEFL some more.”

No, he is not TEFL! “You’re” is the contracted form of “you are” whereas “your” is the possessive form.

        • Fraser Stewart

Again, when pointing out a grammatical error (or in this case a grammatical howler), you should add in [sic], to indicate there has been an error.

        • mr.wiener

Isn’t there an internet rule somewhere that states if you start nit-picking the other guy’s spelling and/or punctuation you automatically lose the argument?

        • mr.wiener

Sorry, my bad. I was thinking of “Gowin’s law” , which states that the use of a nazi comparison automatically invalidates the argument. The above nitpickers are only guilty of being “grammar nazis”, but in pointing this out I have just violated Godwin’s law and will have to vanish in a puff of logic.

      • fabulous

Actually your name is just Fraser Stewart.
A doctor of mathematics is no doctor at all.

        • Fraser Stewart

As opposed to your degree, in what…dish washing? Which name should I call you, fabulous, Mr T or Irvine?

        • Ruffled Feathers

“A doctor of mathematics is no doctor at all.”

Er, how exactly? You know it is possible to make a contribution to human knowledge in the field of mathematics. How about you ask Dr. Fraser what his dissertation was about? It might enlighten you.

        • mr.wiener

“A doctor of mathematics is no doctor at all”

Lets just say I wouldn’t trust a gynaecologist to correct my spelling or a professor of mathematics to remove my appendix.

      • Aurel Stein

You should study ” you’re” English some more. Confusing ” your” with “you’re” isn’t a typo. You simply don’t understand correct usage.

Also, “running wild” is a perfectly legitimate phrase.

I hope your doctorate came with a free bowl of soup. Otherwise, you completely wasted your time.

        • Fraser Stewart

Yeah, actually it’s a typo. At 7:30 am my brain isn’t fully switched on, so I’m just writing stuff. What probably happened was, I started writing one sentence, then changed my mind half way through, but didn’t fix every word of it. If you want to read my PhD thesis, then go right ahead.

          http://www.combinatorialgametheory.com

That’s my personal webpage. Feel free to download all of my papers, and look for any other typographical errors. You can email me any you find.

You should also learn to read.

“For example, I’ve made several in this post alone, I just don’t bother fixing them, because it’s the internet so who cares?”

Is what I said. So I was well aware that I typed you’re, instead of your, but I couldn’t be bothered fixing it. I’ve corrected it now though, but thank you for pointing it out.

          • http://www.chinasmack.com/ MrT

Wow! nice house! right next to the golf course!

  • Fraser Stewart

You know when Chinese people have been on here reading the posts, because the shittiest ones get up voted, while the good ones (i.e. mine), get down voted. It’s quite funny. The level of brainwashing here is extreme.

Even criticising the act of an official, that would deliberately set someone on fire gets down voted. It is by far one of the cruelest things that a person could do to somebody. Trying to make light of the situation may seem a bit shallow, but in reality, there are equally cruel things happening to people all across China.

I don’t know if CS had the story about the woman who was given a forced abortion 7 months in or not, but that one sent chills down my spine. When you’ve read numerous stories, and seen pictures, of these kind of acts of cruelty on such regularity, you become de-sensitised to it.

I guess the only way I can keep from hanging myself, when I see just how barbaric and horrible humans can be to each other is to make jokes about it. To separate myself from just how awful these acts are. Maybe I really should just quit my job, and go home. I have personally witnessed acts of cruelty as well, although no where near the same level as this.

I have seen the Chengguan beating a man up for example, while on lookers laughed at it, and took pictures of it. I have seen a man get stabbed to death in front of me. I’ve also known people who have been raped, or been forced to choose between fucking their boss, or going hungry.

Taiwanese people say “how can you have love without heart?” (Referring to the Chinese character 愛 for love, which does not contain 心 for heart). They would tell me “that’s why Chinese people are so cruel, they have no heart.”. I have to agree.

    • ScottLoar

“Taiwanese people say ‘how can you have love without heart?’ (Referring
to the Chinese character 愛 for love, which does not contain 心 for
      heart).

Tripe. Those same Taiwanese people should know that the simplified version 爱, as do many simplified characters, derives from grass-style calligraphy and as such acceptable for a millennium and more. You could also prompt those same Taiwanese to recount typical behaviour, habits, and society in the Taiwan of the 70’s. I was there; it was very much like a second-tier city and the countryside in present-day mainland China.

      • linette lee

I love taiwanese people and their culture. Their traditional chinese writing is far better than mainland China in my opinion. Love Taiwan.

    • Silly boy

“Brainwashing”? LOL. Get real. You get downvoted because you’re a self-important asshole. And another thing…”[T]his is the internet so who cares?” You can’t use that as a defense for your own poor grammar right after attacking someone else’s. Not only is it pathetically hypocritical, but you can really tell someone’s run out of good arguments when they start attacking their grammar rather than their message.

In short, stop being a pretentious douche, and you will find the people here are a lot nicer. This is the internet. Nobody cares who you are in real life. You are judged solely by the behavior you display here. People will not respect you just because you tell us we should. Additionally, you seem to overreact to virtually everything, which means you’re going to get trolled a lot, although I suppose lack of emotional awareness should be expected from a Scottish math major. Regardless of its source, your behavior here is sub-par and certainly warrants the negative response it has gotten. “If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.”

      • http://www.chinasmack.com/ MrT

        Vote up vote up!

      • Ruffled Feathers

Your point is acceptable up to the point of:

” I suppose lack of emotional awareness should be expected from a Scottish math major”

It kind of nullifies your whole argument if you resort to petty jabs about nationality. What are you implying, that Scots are all fags or something, especially if they major on Mathematics?

Judging by your vocabulary, you’re an American, and let’s face it that’s not exactly a desirable nationality these days, because the world holds a dim view of your country, but I won’t hold that against you. It’s not right make snide comments based on where they’re from, especially when you clearly have no idea about where they’re from. Obviously you have a lack of emotional awareness if you need to sink to the lowest common denominator: race & ethnicity in order to justify your argument.

        • Silly boy

At no point did I imply that I was an upstanding person myself, nor does my behavior have anything to do with his or the reactions he got. Fact is, math majors – for various reasons – tend to be lacking in social awareness, which itself tends to result in a lack of emotional awareness. These two traits exacerbate each other, and Fraser certainly fits the stereotype, judging by his posts. The Scottish part was more a jab along the lines of Scotland not exactly being a picture perfect country itself, but I can see how it could have been misconstrued as ethnocentrism (not saying I’m not racist though ;) ). However, you seem to have missed this part of my post in your good citizen rant: “Regardless of its source, your behavior here is sub-par and certainly warrants the negative response it has gotten.” That means no matter WHY he was being a douche, he WAS being a douche. The core of my argument is that his behavior was poor, not that it was poor because of his background. You can see what that got him – so my argument still stands. It’s kind of like how my unkind choice of words got me your reply. :P

Regarding the American part, I’ll humor you. I am, indeed, American, and I hate America as much as anyone! It’s incredibly corrupt and backwards in so many ways, it would take me hours to list all the reasons. But the thing about being American is that it’s an incredibly diverse country – you’re just as likely to find someone who hates the current president (for example) as someone who loves them. The same can’t be said for most nations. Therefore, lumping all Americans into the same category for the sake of generalization is much less useful than most nationalities, especially one as small and homogeneous as Scottish.

          • Ruffled Feathers

I already said your argument was fine, expect the part about the jab. It was uncalled for, and makes you look like a douche. Moreover, your response just digs you in deeper:

“math majors – for various reasons – tend to be lacking in social awareness,”

            Wow, what a generalization.

            Next:
“Scotland not exactly being a picture perfect country itself”

How do you know? Have you lived there? I haven’t, so I wouldn’t comment. In fact, you clearly don’t know because you said:

“Therefore, lumping all Americans into the same category for the sake of generalization is much less useful than most nationalities, especially one as small and homogeneous as Scottish.

Are you aware that Scotland is a province of the UK, which is a multicultural and diverse country? Just because it’s small doesn’t mean it’s not diverse. The UK is one of the most racially and culturally diverse countries in the world these days. More so than America. I think you’re relying on a stereotype here.

            Finally,

“not saying I’m not racist though”

So you’re a racist are you? I’m so very proud of you.

I’ll leave you to mull that over.

          • Silly boy

Haha. Take a chill pill, man. Again, I’m not trying to be some upstanding citizen. You’re barking up the wrong tree. And don’t quote me without my damn winky faces!

          • Ruffled Feathers

            You’re name certainly is suitable

          • Silly boy

            Yep ;)

I’ll address your reply just for fun.

Generalizations are often useful, and definitely appropriate in this situation because his behavior totally fits the stereotypes. Sorry if that offends you, but you’re gonna have to get used to it because everyone makes generalizations, including you. Keep reading, for evidence of that.

Scotland is 88% Scottish, and about 98% white, and its traditional culture is very pervasive in the area, so yeah, it’s homogeneous. Scotland is not like the rest of the UK and it’s not like England.

Glasgow has pretty damn ridiculous crime rates, it’s the murder capital of Western Europe. Twice the homicide rates of London. I’d rather have my car flipped by a nationalist Chinese than be murdered by some drugged up chav with a knife.

The UK as a whole is 85% British (90% white), while the US is 72% white, which includes hispanics and middle easterners in US data, so the number of Europeans is even smaller.

            Check your facts please. :)

          • Ruffled Feathers

Where did you get those stats? Wikipedia?

          • Silly boy

Don’t take my word for it, you can double check on their respective government sites yourself. But, no matter how tall that horse of yours may be, at the end of the day you’re still gonna be wrong. It’s easier if you admit it before you’re completely embarrassed.

          • Ruffled Feathers

Scotland is multicultural, and traditional culture falls by the wayside these days in favor of modernity. Stats or not, that’s the truth. Also a lot of the white people in Scotland are form eastern Europe.

          • Silly boy

At this point we’re arguing irrelevant semantics. Mental masturbation isn’t my thing though. Here’s what’s true and relevant: Fraser was a dick and he got what he deserved. You don’t like my attitude. I don’t care what you don’t like.

            I think we’re done here.

          • Ruffled Feathers

            Awesome

          • Silly boy

Yep, he’s gone now anyway so it was pretty pointless to begin with. Oh, internet…

    • dim mak

Shut the fuck up you piece of filth.

I’m not a fenqing, I can deal with criticism of China if it’s true or debatable. But everything that comes out of your mouth is the same hackneyed bullshit that doesn’t even have anything to do with the article. You’re really okay with posting somebody’s workplace and other personal information in the hopes that somebody will have him fired and sent packing? What a fucking busy-body. If you’re smart, you’ll find a way to remove the comment and think about making a few improvements on your character instead of trying to portray me as a wacko.
I’m guessing that you’re somebody that recently changed your username and I probably never had any beef with you before. Maybe not. Either way this kind of chickenshit is not acceptable.

          • Ruffled Feathers

Yeah I agree with Little Wolf. This is way below the belt. Fraser Stewart might make controversial comments, but regardless of his opinions, you don’t even know him. You are just a cowardly son of a bitch to attempt to meddle in his life like this, and then just walk away hiding behind internet forum anonymity.

          • Silly boy

He posted his personal information himself by using his full name all over the internet (including here) and posting his personal website here. All I did was collect it after about 20 seconds of google searching.

          • Kukuku

Silly boy You’re one big fucking idiot. Chinese are extremely prone to mob mentality and putting up someone’s information online is fucking ridiculous. I don’t buy your bullshit argument that it isn’t threatening. Moreover, someone could decide to attack him IRL using this information even if he only said good things about China. You never know what kind of bastard you’re gonna find. As far as douchebags go, I’ve seen many but you’re one of a kind.

Now I just want the mods here to give us your email address so we can do some search of our own as well.

Fraser is also stupid for using his real name online. I’m sure he’s gonna learn his lesson and fix this so dickbags like Sissy boy can’t dox him again.

          • Silly boy

Come now, if they gave you my email, they wouldn’t be mods, they’d be as dumb as plebians like you. If you exploited it…wouldn’t you become that which you hate? You’d be trying to “teach me a lesson” by being a douchebag to me, which is exactly what I’m doing to Fraser, and thus you’d be the grandest douche in all the land. Nice try buddy. Face it, you’ve been outdone this time.

I’m glad the Chinese are prone to mob mentality, they shouldn’t tolerate dickbags like Fraser who piss and moan on the internet all day about how much China sucks while financially and scholastically profiting from its existence. It makes me sick that people can be so unhappy about and critical of China when their lives are so fucking GREAT because of it. And don’t even get me started on all the free pussy he’s probably getting…

I don’t know how many times I have to say this before you idiots understand. Apparently it’s not getting through, so I’ll try making it bigger for you. I DIDN’T POST HIS INFORMATION. I posted links to information which HE PUT UP HIMSELF. If he didn’t want anyone to find it, he never should have put it up. If he didn’t want his comments here to be associated with his real world self, he never should have posted here with his real name. Simple, right? I knew you’d get it eventually, pal.

          • Kukuku

Let me put it this way. Be thankful I do not have your very own personal information. Take it as a threat if you’d like I don’t care, but I’d rather you take it as a promise from me to you.

          • Silly boy

Hahahaha you know, doing what I do, while condemning what I do, doesn’t make you better than me. I thought you’d have learned basic logic skills like that in, say, the third grade.

          • Kukuku

No dude you don’t get it. Schadenfreude is my thing.and you crossed a line that makes you free game for any trick, threat and act of malevolence imaginable. I restrain myself from experiencing this pleasure unless someone like you crosses paths with me.

While I do think many here are idiots and simpletons, I still treat foreigners in China as my extended family and will go out of my way to help any foreigner here and keep them from harm if possible. You deliberately doxed Fraser in a context where such dox could even be life threatening to him. You threaten my extended family and now I care not what is done to you.

I don’t care who does it or how it happens, but I swear I’ll derive great pleasure from your misfortune regardless of what the outcome is. You will slip one day, your kind always does, and I will be waiting, or someone like me will be and you may find yourself out with no job or a black eye or whatever.

He invited the negative attention by being so adamant about his hatred for China and by making all his information available online through 20 seconds of googling. Maybe if he begins to suffer real life repercussions from his childish outbursts, he’ll grow the fuck up. That’s the only way some people learn.

          • Ruffled Feathers

Why is it your job to teach him a lesson? Why does bitching about China ring so personally with you and many others? Many of us do it on here. What you’ve done is inexcusable. Seems like it’s you that needs to grow the fuck up.

          • Silly boy

Typing “Fraser Stewart china” into Google is inexcusable? Indeed, then, how dare I do such a thing? Pff.

What’s inexcusable to me is such stupid behavior with such brazen disregard for the consequences. Being an idiot on the internet can and does have real life implications when you use your real name and offend the wrong people. That’s the world we live in. It’s best he learn that now.

Fraser Stewart has 100 times the integrity and balls you’ll ever have. He doesn’t hide behind his anonymy, has an opinion and stands behind it and would never start an online lynching of another foreigner. You’re going to have your own consequences from here out as you are now the official Chinasmack bitch. It’s amazing to me that you can be such a poof and still try to to defend it and feel smug about it.

          • Silly boy

Balls? Yeah, that’s why his old account is now “Guest” and he has a new one to disassociate himself from it. lololol keep dreaming. At least I have the “balls” to call out a whiney pretentious cunt (that being Fraser) when I see one.

If he really had balls he’d show all his comments to his Chinese superiors who got him that job, and see what they think. Or better yet, show them to a local PSB guy whose wife cheats on him with a laowai. Should be interesting, to say the least. ;)

“official Chinasmack bitch” lol that’s cute, tough guy. I didn’t realize you were the governor here making all the official decisions. When’s the next election?

to the moderators, this guy needs to be banned, you have to protect your readers’ identities, even the identity of trolls. you’ve got people threatening each other and sharing other people’s personal information now here. its going to continue if it isnt stamped out as unacceptable behavior

          • Germandude

What moop said +1. The guy is probably new to the internet and pretty naive using his real name, telling where he lives and where he works, but come on guys… It’s one thing to insult each other online. Stalking and even going further than that is just plain wrong when based on some jerk posting bullshit in a forum…

          • Silly boy

Your issue with me is that I “revealed his identity”, but I did no such thing. He openly posted using his own real name and credentials, and still does. The mods can’t protect his identity from himself, you idiot. He wanted us to respect his RL personality over his internet one. His ego got the better of him, and came back to bite him in the ass. He got what he deserved – which is to say, a slap in the face from reality, since nothing bad actually happened this time. There were no chinese death squads knocking on his door like you all feared. So grab a tissue and shut the hell up, nancy. It’s gonna be aaallllright.

Also…do you really think banning would solve anything? All it does is remove my username from the posts I’ve made. Even if they deleted my posts or blocked my username or email from the site, I could still use different ones, and I could use a different IP if they banned that, AND his full name is still in plain view for all to see. You may want to reconsider your response to people you don’t like on the internet, since whining to mods wouldn’t do anything if I really wanted to bother you. (Fortunately for you, I don’t…)

          • moop

my issue with you is that you made it even easier for people who wanted to make this guys life miserable to do just that. you gave them a short-cut. your links and whatnot reveal more information about him than he himself has disclosed. dont pretend that you had no malicious intent. and you dont know if anything bad has or will happen, for all you know your little stunt has given people the idea to maybe call and complain at his institution or go seek him out. you made his information even more readily available than it already was.

i think banning would help in this case because it might discourage other people from posting other people’s information online, and it sends a message that that your behavior is unacceptable. is that “(fortunately for you, I don’t)” comment a threat? seems like a veiled threat to me. for the record i didnt have a problem with you until you did this. its shitty and you’re a piece of shit for doing it. your attempts to rationalize your behavior is worthless

          • Silly boy

If you don’t want people to invade your home, you don’t leave the door unlocked and then put a sign in front that says “lots of valuables inside”. He linked to his personal page in one of his troll posts! Come on! How stupid can one person be? If his page was still up you could see that it had all the info of the additional sites I linked, so I’m not sharing any info that wasn’t already provided by the man himself – he just took that down after he realized it was probably a bad idea.

I hope someone does complain to his uni, because foolish actions should have consequences. I’m glad you think I’m a piece of shit though, it really warms my heart. :)

And no, it wasn’t a veiled threat, it’s simply a matter of fact. People can and will bypass bannings if they want to. I won’t, because I’m not malicious to everyone, just to douches who also happen to be easy targets like Fraser. You’re not a douche at all, you’re just upset because you think if it can happen to him then it can happen to you. I understand that. The internet is a scary place. As long as you’re smarter than he is, though, nothing will happen to you. Here’s a handy tip: don’t use your real name when talking shit online about a country in which you are an honored guest, especially if that country is China.

          • moop

“I hope someone does complain to his uni, because foolish actions should have consequences” foolish would be saying the things he’s been writing about in front of his students and boss, not venting on a website.

so this guy should lose his job for posting his negative feelings about a country on an english website for foreigners that is hosted on a server that is not even in china?

“an honored guest” yes, because the chinese really want us here and wouldnt actually choose to be totally isolated again if they could afford to. tell me, do you honor a guest by staring, pointing, and making comments about them whenever they walk by? do you honor your guests by assuming they are so stupid as to not speak chinese so you talk about them like they arent even in the room? do you honor your guest by having “foreigner pricess” and trying to cheat them at every turn? or condescendingly marvel that they can pick up food with 2 sticks? even teachers are not honored guests here, they are tools. we all are. english teachers are tools to prepare chinese students for interaction with the rest of the world. account executives are white faces to show to chinese clients. engineers and it professionals are brought in for their know-how. but very few people actually really want us here as individuals, which is something i would say would be vital to being an “honored guest” anywhere.

          • Ruffled Feathers

Moop, churning out the gold as usual! Kudos, you’re right on the money!

          • moop

silly boy isnt a bad commenter, the guy makes rational statements most of the time. but he crossed a line that we shouldnt even be approaching on this site. odd he thinks fraser should face consequences for his actions but silly boy himself shouldnt

          • Ruffled Feathers

hahaha an honored guest, yeah right!

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=37101365 Fraser Stewart

Ok, by leaving this here, they are supporting his actions. I know I said I wouldn’t post again. But to Fauna, if you don’t take this down, I’m going to contact the host of your site, as well as the site you bought the domain name from. I will be requesting that this site be removed from the internet entirely.

You think a hosting or domain name provider wouldn’t listen? I could sue both companies, as well as yourself, and win this case easily. I have also received threats via email, because of this post, and have records of it. So do it, or I will be taking legal action to ensure that it gets done.

          • mr.wiener

Chill out a little there mate, by responding to their provocations you are making yourself out to be as big an ijitt as messers Loar and Boy.
Raving threats against the mods is not a good way to get things done.

          • moop

            jesus christ

          • mr.wiener

No, but I used to get mistaken for him a lot before I trimmed my beard.
Besides which Christ wasn’t born in Australia as we couldn’t find 3 wise men and a virgin :)

          • Kukuku

Hey Fraser, Chinasmack is registered with dreamhost.com. You can report them for abuse at http://dreamhost.com/contact/ . Also, this company is located in the US so you can press charges against the ISP if nothing is done.

          • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=37101365 Fraser Stewart

Done it, I’ve also requested Silly boy’s details, because I’m going to pursue legal action against him personally too.

          • Silly boy

Hahahahaha, on what grounds, Dr. Fraser?

          • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=37101365 Fraser Stewart

Harassment with malicious intent. Leaving threatening messages. Online bullying, which is actually a crime now.

          • Silly boy

            LOL good luck

          • Kukuku

Also, the law states that their ISP has to provide you with their customers’ personal information (Fauna, in this case) if you request it to take legal actions against said customer. The ISP has 48 hours to comply.

          • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=37101365 Fraser Stewart

The threat I received was from some guy in Beijing, who stated that I’d better “leave China”, or he’d put my posts and information on a Chinese forum, and get me fired “within a week”.

Right now I’m actually worried for my personal safety. Since Fauna is the owner of this site, she is the one who will ultimately be held responsible. Especially since this has been brought to her attention by lots of users, and she has not acted on it.

          • Silly boy

It’ll be a tough to convince a judge that a threat to your career, brought on by your own comments, is a threat to your personal safety.

          • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=37101365 Fraser Stewart

Not at all, since I received physical threats via email, as a direct result of your post. Not only that, by encouraging this vigilante style justice you’ve got going, you’re making me a target for people who would do me physical harm.

So yes, you have made threats against me. Furthermore, you are a silly little boy, who is probably some Chinese guy that’s 200% patriotic, and thinks everyone should love mother China as much he does.

You’ve crossed a line, a very serious one, and I’m going to use all my energy to ensure you face the full extent of the consequences. Having an opinion, even expressing it a way that others find distasteful, is not a crime. What you did is.

          • Silly boy

Oh boy, I’m so scared. You really think that’s going to hold up in court? Under what jurisdiction do you even intend to prosecute? Since the actual threats are coming from China…lol. Have fun wasting your time and money.

FYI, your assumption about me is “200%” wrong (as a math whiz, you should know how retarded that sounds).

          • ScottLoar

“Right now I’m actually worried for my personal safety.” You can take the advice of learned Mr. Weiner and chill out, or Dr. Fraser, you must retire to the safety of those higher academics, both Chinese and foreign, who agree with every word you say about the China you called “this shit hole of a country”.

Imbecile! You’re getting a lesson in cultural exchange.

          • Silly boy

His time now would be best spent trying to make it look like the comments he posted weren’t actually from him.

Or he could just go find a hot piece of ass and forget about it, we all know how easy it is especially in 2nd/3rd tier cities where having white skin makes you a stud muffin.

          • Guest

            Silly boy

See, there’s consequences for you, you dumb fuck.

Also, Dr. Fraser, please come back. You are not hated on this site. These were the actions of one malicious and duplicitous person. Many people on here respect your opinions and your intelligence, and above all, your integrity. I personally enjoyed your “In Communist China…” jokes, and agreed with all your postings. I understand you are feeling terribly betrayed and victimized, but please be aware that you have supporters on here who are also fighting to get this rectified for you. I’m terribly sorry that you’ve received threats. Please be careful, and know that you have our support.

Oh dear. Contact Fauna and ask her to remove the links to your profile and all other information that you made willingly available. Spare your time and money and don’t go to a lawyer or request the site to be removed from the internet.

ANY forum/webpage is responsible for the content it creates, such as reports, pictures etc. Visitor posts, such as yours and mine are ALWAYS excluded, except the host SPECIFICALLY mentions that he includes this responsibility. Which of course never happens because no one is that stupid.

See, I am on your side on this. All personal information should be deleted here. But in the end you can’t blame others to use information that you voluntarily put online, linked to and made publicly available.

If I was you, I would contact Fauna for deleting all info, would put my linkedin and facebook profile (if available) status to “friends only”, take down my webpages and simply ignore all hater mails. And next time I entered a page like this, I would take a nickname and not shout out where you can find me.

          • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=37101365 Fraser Stewart

            Sure, blame the victim.

          • Silly boy

Holy shit, someone with some common sense. Thanks for being the voice of reason among the crowd of emotionally reactive little girls.

          • Germandude

Silly boy, your name fits you, it truely does. My post was not meant to be supportive to you in any way. In fact, I think you are a very stupid and naive guy.

PS: Just realized your post with the information of him was deleted, which I am very happy about.

          • Silly boy

“But in the end you can’t blame others to use information that you voluntarily put online, linked to and made publicly available.” You might not be supporting me but you’re certainly not supporting him. lol

          • Germandude

I certainly would support your idea of apologizing to him, if you had the courage to do so.

          • Germandude

On a sidenote: why has my answer to this been deleted as well?

PS: ok, edit here. Disqus freaking me out. As it always does…

          • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=37101365 Fraser Stewart

I’m an academic, we all have webpages with contact info. I.e. work address, telephone number, name and so on. That’s there so people can contact me in a professional sense. It’s a necessary part of my job.

What Silly boy has done, is posted that information, and encouraged people to use it for malicious purposes.

There is no academic anywhere in the world, who does not have the same information publicly available. I want people to be able to find my work and read it. Where I draw the line, is people posting the links, without my permission, and then asking people to do me harm in some way or another.

All because I have an opinion that’s different from theirs. Hell go to youtube and type “Richard Dawkins hate mail”. What I’m more concerned about are angry Chinese people coming to my office, with the intent of harming me, simply because I have a negative impression of their country.

          • Silly boy

You’ve claimed before that all your academic associates had the same opinion as you. Would they not stop the other, angrier Chinese people from “harming” you? Would they not protect you from their prideful comrades?

If you were truly worried about your well being, you should not have posted under your real name, and you should not have posted your personal website. It would be impossible for you to prove that the Chinese people who are allegedly threatening you found you because of my post. Since your information is so freely available online, they could have found it just as easily as I did. I posted public information about you, therefore I do not need your permission and it isn’t illegal. Likewise, in no way is it illegal for me to suggest you be removed from your academic station for your comments, because that is not serious threat to your personal safety (even if it makes you feel insecure).

Now that we have that out of the way, if you were truly worried about your professional standing, and you insist on using your real information on Chinasmack, you should not have said such unprofessional things here. The way you behaved is not becoming of a high-standing international academic in the least. Words you write on the internet affect other people, positively and negatively. The internet does not exist in some alternate reality, it is here in the real world along with everyone else. You were not considerate of that fact when you posted here. While this backlash from Chinese citizens was unexpected to you, it is not totally unwarranted, nor is it inherently my fault, and frankly it is not even unexpected to people who actually take the time to understand China and the idiosyncrasies of its people.

          • http://soundcloud.com/starhawk-1 Little Wolf

Hey! Dipshit! You fucked up! There is nothing you can say to convince anybody that what you did was anything but chickenshit, so shut your little bitch mouth. You’ve accomplished nothing with your little tirade except remind people that there are little pieces of shit on the Internet without any scruples or sense of right and wrong and what a pathetic and useless coward you are.
I’ll put my money on Dr. Stewart and that “sillyboy” messed with the wrong motherfucker.

          • Silly boy

            Simmer down, sunshine.

          • mr.wiener

Ahh , the old “I’m not responsible for the truck hitting you, I just pushed you in front of it…” argument.
Lets get one thing plain. I don’t agree with a lot of the things Frazer Stewart wrote. but I’d never do what you did because….well because I consider it a very low act.

          • Kai

@disqus_qpFQtxPJyF:disqus Thank you. Not a single one of us received any emails from ANYONE regarding this. We were all busy yesterday (those of us managing cS) and simply did not get a chance to check the site. Shit happens, but I do not believe you guys missed the fact that I already deleted some of the comments relating to this and made a comment about it, so where is this bullshit motive about us supporting offline threats coming from? That’s just unfair and entirely uncool.

          • http://soundcloud.com/starhawk-1 Little Wolf

You’re fucking joking ,right? You got a Koreasmack, Russiasmack, Japanslam and Indosmack going now and not a single person manning the dashboard.? I saw 1 comment deleted yet you left “sillyboy’s” absolute chickenshit attempt to have Fraser Stewart harrassed. The damage can’t be undone and your neglect is inexcusable.(Shit happens? That’s fucking brilliant) Is it really our responsibility to monitor the site for you and notify you by e-mails? Just so we know how things work around here.

          • Silly boy

I think it’s kinda funny how the much more real sounding threat from dim mak was left, but what I posted – much less threatening no matter how you look at it – was deleted. It ain’t easy bein’ a gangsta, I guess.

          • moop

to be fair to dim mak, who i’ve argued with numerous times, dim mak is an old poster here and everyone knows he’s not serious

          • Silly boy

But doesn’t his comment also have the potential to inspire violent chinese nationalist pride, the alleged reason mine were deleted? Just sayin’. Don’t care either way.

          • Kai

Each site has its own editorial team and installation. Only a few of us have moderator status on multiple sites and no, we don’t have people reviewing the comments 24/7.

I deleted two comments by Sillyboy, one containing links to his online profiles and one specifically suggesting that his supervisor at his school be called.

Shit happens, as in things happen in our lives that require our attention elsewhere. The iB team, for example, is currently getting ready for a wedding.

It is not your responsibility to monitor the site, just as it is not our
responsibility to clean up after you guys. We meet halfway. You promise
to abide by our comment policy as best you can and we promise to uphold
it as best we can. We installed Disqus to make it EASIER for you guys
to moderate yourselves with voting and flagging, because MANY of you
            yourselves requested it.

No one is forcing you to use the comments system. You undertake responsibility for your comments and interactions when you decide to use the system. We offer you a comment policy as guidance for how we will moderate, and we’re extremely lenient about it. We cannot guarantee nor do we guarantee being able to monitor the comments around the clock. It just isn’t possible and you’re being unreasonable.

The bottom line is that there’s a limit to what we can do. If we have a lot of free time, we’re able to respond more quickly to these things. If we don’t, there’s going to be a delay. Shit happens in our lives too and again, none of you are paying us for our services.

          • http://soundcloud.com/starhawk-1 Little Wolf

That doesn’t fly with me. As a host of Sinocidal, we never left the dashboard unattended. That was in 2007 and with all the new “Smartphones” and such there is no excuse for someone to not be able to have a glance even just once an hour.(fuck, I didn’t even have a laptop in 2007) Just because Fraser isn’t paying for your “services” doesn’t mean you can duck some responsibilities as the host of this blog.
If you’re inviting me and others to go comment elsewhere, be careful what you wish for. Show a little respect for the people that take time to comment on your blog, they are not getting paid either and are the ones that truly keep this site going.

          • Kai

It’s great that you guys were able to manage Sinocidal 24/7 as you say but we’re not you. It’s also unfair to compare Sinocidal which is no longer around to chinaSMACK. It’s fair for you to be upset but the accusations and insults you’re hurling at us isn’t. We offered you an explanation for why we weren’t around earlier. I don’t think this means we’re ducking responsibility. In fact, it means we felt an explanation was owed.

When you get a service for free, like it or not, you have no moral high-ground to demand much of it. I’m not inviting you to comment elsewhere, I’m telling you the fact of the matter is that we simply cannot be around all the time for you guys. You’re making this personal. I can’t speak for anyone else but if you must know, my parents are in town for 2 days and I only see them about once a year. I’m sorry I was more interested in spending quality time with the people who gave me life than disrespecting them by checking my iPhone in front of them every hour for you.

I believe we treat our commenters with plenty of respect given how much leniency we extend with regards to our comment policy. My parents just came in and I have a dinner to prepare for. Goodbye.

          • moop

kai, are you my long-lost brother? my parents just came in to town too. you’ve got a lot of explaining to do

          • haotian

Boy, oh boy, the whole “we’re not getting paid argument”. That one always goes over well.

          • vincent

Remove the comments section entirely, both groups involved wouldn’t have to read asinine comments made by each others and the mods can take a nice vacation.

The only problem is that CS would sink like the Titanic, the only reason I really visit this site is to read the comments which are more interesting than the articles themselves, there are other alternatives out there too you know, the only reason any of us come here is for the ‘community’ even though it resembles Frankenstein’s monster.

          • haotian

If you don’t like being a moderator, then quit. You’re not getting paid, so quit it. He already posted something defamatory once and wasn’t banned, chances were he’d do it again. You should have checked to make sure there were no more comments like that.

Not getting paid, is no excuse. You volunteered, this your job, like it or not. Do it properly, or just quit. The choice is yours.

          • Germandude

He who sits in a glass house should not throw stones.

          • Cynic

what are you making reference to? i dont get it.

          • Germandude

I am refering to Fraser/haotian. He has attacked quite some people here and is now complaining that it backfires.

          • Ruffled Feathers

To be fair he’s making comments many of us make regularly. I just told him that the only reason it ‘backfired’ is because his name and details were easily available, and Silly Boy just exploited that to satisfy his own insecurities. Now, it wasn’t a good idea for Fraser to use his real name or give out real life info on here, but Silly Boy made the choice to use that info in a malicious way.

          • Germandude

Agreed and I already gave my opinion about Fraser’s and Silly Boy’s behaviour in this regard.

          • Rick in China

I think it’s ridiculous to bitch about “slow response” on a free-to-use service.

          • http://soundcloud.com/starhawk-1 Little Wolf

I dunno, Rick. It looks pretty sloppy to me. Kai has already said that a “few” moderators have the keys to the dashboards of the multiple sites. And I think it’s safe to say Chinasmack has become a nice little cash cow. Sinocidal made about 3 to 500 dollars a month just from Google ads(which we donated to charity since it wasn’t worth splitting up) Fraser’s info was left up almost a whole day and anybody could see it was getting shifty around here even before Silly Boy shit in the sandbox…. and Kai wants to pass it off as “hey,,whaddaya want for nothin?” nope

          • Ruffled Feathers

Yeah I agree he’s alleviating the responsibility

          • Rick in China

Sure – fair points, however, it’s their site – and as free market dictates..if it’s run in a fashion that ends up pissing off too many users it will fail on it’s own. It’s not really up to us to tell them how to run it beyond expressing things we like/dislike and letting them do with that information as they want.

I think this is the first case like this I’ve seen, and probably wont have much long term impact :D

          • http://soundcloud.com/starhawk-1 Little Wolf

Also fair points, Rick. If I sounded like I was telling him(them?) how to run their site, it wasn’t my intention. But this is a Chinese-hosted site and coming from a culture where it wasn’t long ago that people ratted out their friends, neighbors and even family to save their own skin I don’t think they understand how fucked up westerners find that behavior.
I may be more sensitive about it since I witnessed a similar situation here in Hangzhou some years back where a guy had his life destroyed by a bunch of fucking busybodys based only on suspicion but no proof. To this day, it was the the most shameful display of online behavior I have ever seen. Assbags that would sign in under multiple aliases for every letter of the alphabet to attack the guy like hyenas that violated every shred of a conscience. Mob mentality at it’s worst. I was astounded that the thread never got locked.
Instead of telling us “Sorry guys, I fucked up. My parents were here and I failed to assign a replacement to look in on the site”. You know? Man up. And that would have been the end of it. Instead we get “shit happens” and blames the forum for not e-mailing him.(If he’s not checking the site why would we expect him to check his e-mails)
I ran a fairly popular blog once and I know it’s not that hard and that is why I don’t buy Kai’s excuse. Does it cost money to buy integrity? I’m not a lawyer and I don’t know if what happened here has any legal consequences. But I can say that laws of decency have certainly been violated.
For whatever it’s worth……. I am encouraged by the integrity of the many members of this forum that have shown, even while agreeing that Fraser may be a bit of a pompous ass sometimes, determining that what “Silly Boy” did is chickenshit and just WRONG.

          • Kai

Not having a moderator monitoring the site 24/7 does not mean we support his actions, much less when one of us (me) has already personally deleted some of these comments already and explicitly warned you guys off making offline threats. I know you guys think our nice little green MOD badge makes us seem like we’re ever-present and all-knowing but like you guys, we have work and lives to attend to, and none of you guys are paying for our services. Did you notice that there was no new post yesterday?

You don’t have a legal argument when it comes to user-generated content on the internet, especially when all he did was point out information you yourself voluntarily posted here using the same tools everyone has access to.

We would also appreciate if you don’t make offline threats against our website or our staff. We provide you with a comments section. It is your choice on whether or not to use it and there is only so much we can do to clean up after you. Our comment policy is public and our resources are limited. We’re extremely lenient with you guys already.

          • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=37101365 Fraser Stewart

Yeah, that’s a really fucking cool argument there. It’s absolutely fine if I put it there. But he put it there with the pure intent of “exposing” me, and trying to incite hatred against me. I put it there so people could read my work.

Also I notice that he’s still not been banned, that speaks volumes. No, I didn’t make a threat, I made a promise, which I followed through on. I flagged that comment myself, personally, on numerous occasions.

I have complained to the company that hosts this site, and requested that the site be pulled from the internet. If flagging comments isn’t enough/doesn’t work, that’s your responsibility not mine. Silly boy should be banned already for what he did. Attempting to get people to come after me, in some way is totally unacceptable, regardless of what I post here.

          • YourTimeIsUp

Although your fat Scottish ass may have an unusually strong gravitational pull, the world actually does not revolve around you, Dr. Fraser Stewart. If you listened to rock’n’roll, you’d know that you can’t always get what you want. (But if you try sometimes, you just might find, you get what you need.)

          • Cynic

fraser, dont ruin it for everyone else. your doing the chinese thing now. why would you ever try to get the site removed? be a man. just ignore and it will all go away.

      • Kai

Vocal disagreement or even condemnation is one thing, but making offline threats is another. Please don’t do the latter, and that goes for “both” sides. You guys know who you are.

        • dim mak

      • Ruffled Feathers

Why doesn’t China work to improve itself so that people don’t have to complain about it anymore?

        Also

“get the fuck out before we find out where you’re hiding.”

What ya gonna do? Overturn his car?

        • Silly boy

Funny you mention the overturned car thing. I live in San Francisco, whose baseball team just won the world series a couple hours ago. Shortly after the game, fires were started in the streets and cars were overturned because we WON the game…and this is in one of the most liberal, peaceful cities in America. Suddenly Chinese people flipping cars over nationalist pride doesn’t seem so ridiculous.

          • moop

“Suddenly Chinese people flipping cars over nationalist pride doesn’t seem so ridiculous.”

nope its still ridiculous. both sides are retarded and each participant in both cases deserve the darwin award

          • Silly boy

@disqus_Yu9CRCs2Uz:disqus Well, he was referencing the car flipping in a way that implied it was a “Chinese” thing to do, because of the recent Diaoyu-inspired riots. My point was that no place is free of idiots who will look for any excuse to get violent. Besides, if the critics are to be believed, the Chinese rioters were just pawns of the government anyway. lol

          • Ruffled Feathers

Well then, it’s about the intention for flipping someone’s car then, isn’t it? I posted that to him because it seems like the most hateful thing a Chinese can do to you at the moment.

          • Silly boy

I can think of a lot more hateful things. Besides, like I said, Fraser clearly doesn’t wanna live in China. He’s a victim of his own design. Someone with a little guanxi needs to contact his superiors.

          • Ruffled Feathers

You didn’t read my reply properly

          • Silly boy

            Enlighten me, my lord.

          • Ruffled Feathers

You said flipping a care ain’t that bad, I said it’s the worst you’ll get here. I think you missed that point.

          • Silly boy

If that’s the worst you’ll get in China, he has nothing to worry about. Probably doesn’t even have a car though. But nah, I’m sure there’s much worse things going on, they just don’t get as much media attention because the riots were sensationalized. State news, and all that… He could be fired, imprisoned, and beaten, for starters. All he needs to do is piss off the wrong guy.

  • linette lee

how can these construction crew do something so violent?

    • mr.wiener

I thought they were a deconstruction crew, in which case this would be entirely in character.

        • A Lu

          Got the joke? good!

Same as when I said it must have been a Korean temporary worker driving a japanese truck that made that doufu bridge collapse.
Got the “doufu” joke now? Good! Means we both know something about China

          • Ruffled Feathers

Oh please, the comment was made in jest. I was only worried that you might be a Chinese troller bitching about the recent Tibetan immolations. However, since you’re not, it’s all good.

          • A Lu

Sure, no problem. Keep calling “fucker” anybody you’re worried could be a chinese troller, don’t bother reading the “presumed troller” previous posts

          • Ruffled Feathers

Sorry, does swearing offend your delicate ears? I told you it was meant in jest. It’s a common fact that Chinese don’t think highly of the Dalai Lama, and with a Chinese sounding name like “A Lu”, I thought you could be a Chinese trying to start up shit. In any case, I don’t know who you are, I can only judge you on what you post here.Obviously I was mistaken, as your comment was made in jest too. Also, just because people don’t appreciate your posts, doesn’t mean they are stupid and they ‘don’t get’ the joke. Has it occurred to you that your joke just might not be that funny?

  • Liu Yang

@Fraser Stewart , what do you mean by ,” second of all?”. Look get off your PHD pedestal and stop further embarrassing yourself here. We got under your skin there, and you are up in arms rambling endlessly. Posting your website here and asking people to visit it and see whether there are any grammatical errors in your writings is ample proof you are on the defensive. You give the impression that you are the hunter that has ended up as game in another person’s bag. You earlier claimed people in Scotland hate Chinese, we also presume people in Scotland should speak and write perfect English. It seems you are not a worthy ambassador of your country. Not only are you racist, but you sound unstable. You don’t have a good grasp of basic grammatical rules, yet you throw approbrium on others. ‘Mr.’ is a title that is placed in front of a man’s surname, so why must I address you Dr. Stewart? Finally, we don’ t ‘ fix’ grammatical errors, we ‘correct’ them. Remember : ” When a hand continuously goes behind,it will subsequently be smirked with feces”

    • Ruffled Feathers

“When a hand continuously goes behind,it will subsequently be smirked with feces”

Please stop the bullshit metaphors, because you’re not very good at them, Why would his hand continuously go behind… and go behind what? Clearly you just made this up on the fly, because it’s nonsensical bullshit, but you said it to try to sound wise or mysterious when you rounded off your point. I think you are also being pretentious.

Also, smirk means to grin or smile sarcastically. I think you meant smeared with feces.

    • mr.wiener

Is that a Chinese proverb? If so please wright that out in Chinese for me, there’s a good fella.
Also have you ever , ever heard anyone curse someone out with “may you live in interesting times”. People in the west have been spouting that piece of BS forever, but I’ve never heard anyone in China use it….ever.

Sorry, I thought you were Chom, my bad.

  • Ruffled Feathers

I love how patronizing and self righteous the liberals and China kiss-asses are when they read negative commentary on this site. Here’s a clue for ya: Most Chinese (not all of course) don’t give a shit about how inclusive/enlightened/cultured you are. We’re all just laowais to that type of Chinese person; either unworthy of note, or at worst someone they hate. Although on face value they’ll appreciate your ass-kissing and America-bashing, deep down they still think you’re a barbarian. Furthermore, they’ll probably fuck you over one day too. Why don’t you guys do two things from now on.

    1. really open your eyes to the attitude of Chinese towards us, really analyze their behavior and see if it’s fair to you/us.

    2. Don’t think that just because someone has a different opinion, they are an idiot, and for God’s sake, don’t take it so damned personally!

Now go and chew on that bit of criticism, if you can take it.

  • Liu Yang

@mr.weiner, this is not a Chinese proverb. It just implies that when you do the same negative thing over and over again, you may run into a wall. If your hand were to keep going behind to your bottom, it may end up getting smeared with feces. We use proverbs and wise sayings to spice up the meaning of what we put across. I hope Ruffled feathers understands this and stops behaving like a loose cannon. It was not meant to show off, but tied in with Mr. Stewart’s desire to keep demeaning others.

  • El Puma R.

No more excuses. I am SO leaving china before January 2013. No more answering the same questions every day, no more breathing smoke and seeing how they destroy themselves the way they do.

    • Kukuku

Well I wish you luck with anything you do outside China then. I understand the feel btw, but got things I have to do before leaving.

      • Silly boy

Yeah he does, like giving me a black eye because reasons.

      • El Puma R.

Thank you, I appreciate it. I have a few things to do too, that’s why I am not leaving right now =)

I thought I’d clarify things for those are wondering. I have been banned from this site, which is why all of posts are now labelled “Guest”. I’m not scared of using my real name on sites like this, I am aware of the inherent dangers of doing so, but I accept it.

I’m not angry about being banned. I went onto my other disqus account and tried to delete all of my posts, but I think the fact that I was banned means I can’t anymore. The reason is that while I was happy to post my opinions, as controversial as they proved to be, I was not prepared to get involved in these petty, childish squabbles.

I was not ever attempting to troll the site, or stir up this much anger. The vast majority of it is my true opinion, I hope you believe that. Other stuff were just jokes, that either got taken too seriously, or just offended people, and for that I truly apologise.

I don’t hate China by any means. In fact it’s exactly the opposite. When I was young, I had a dream to come and live and work in this great nation of China (exactly what I’m doing now). I loved the language, loved the culture, loved the people. But, I don’t like what the CCP has turned it into.

When I lived in Taiwan, I realised what China could have been under the correct governance, and that broke my heart. China is a beautiful country, with a fascinating history, and a lot of what I post here if venting my frustrations at seeing what it’s become.

I won’t be posting here again. I was happy to argue, discuss, debate and even share a laugh or a joke with the people here. But once all this personal, threatening, and pettiness started, I decided to walk away. That was why I deleted all my posts. So I won’t be posting here again, and I would encourage a lot of you to think about your own behaviour, as I have, and maybe say to yourself once in a while “who cares, it’s only the internet”. So long guys, and peace out.

    • Kai

You’ve got to be kidding me. You were not and have not been banned from this site. Your posts were renamed as “Guest” because you anonymized them, which is a feature that Disqus provides for people who no longer want to be held responsible for comments they’ve made previously.

      http://help.disqus.com/customer/portal/articles/466229-removing-and-editing-your-comments

I’m going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you weren’t intentionally being dishonest here and simply did not understand how the system works. The fact remains that you went into your Disqus account and attempted to delete your previous comments and simply didn’t know you can’t delete them and can only anonymize them.
