<h3 style="padding-left: 30px;"><span title="悍妇脱裤抽晕交警被判8个月">Fierce woman who took off her pants to whip a police officer sentenced to 8 months</span></h3>
>This old lady is surnamed Chu, is 55-years-old this year, and is from Langxi County of Anhui province. According to the old lady, both of her parents passed away when she was small, was raised by her paternal grandmother, later married, and gave birth to a son and daughter, but because she didn&#8217;t want to spend her entire life in her hometown farming, over 10 years ago she came to Nanjing to make a living.</span></p>
>Illiterate an without any skills, it was impossible to find a job, so she survived by picking up garbage and panhandling around the train station. Later, she met a 70-year-old elderly Nanjing man, and the two of them rented a place to live together. Seeing that she had nothing to do, the old man bought her an electric tricycle, and she began operating as an illegal pedicab near the train station, each day able to earn a little money.</span></p>
>On 2010 August 3rd, around 12 noon, she was carrying three people heading towards Zhongyang North Road. When she reached the red traffic light at the Zhongyang North Road overpass and seeing that there weren&#8217;t many cars, she tried running the red light, and unexpectedly hit a man. “He wanted compensation, I would only agree to paying him 2 RMB, so he called the police.” Very quickly, traffic police and security rushed to the scene, instructing them to return with them to the police station for mediation, but she was afraid her vehicle would be impounded and in her anxiety took off her denim jeans and began whipping the traffic officer with them. Suddenly, when the pant leg hit the back of the traffic officer&#8217;s head, he passed out. Later diagnosis said that the traffic officer had a superficial injury to his head and a concussion.</span></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><span title="“当时裸露下半身，好多人都在围观，交警是个男的，不敢面对着我，我用这种手法就是为了威胁交警，让交警没办法执法。” 老妇被抓后，才知自己闯了祸。但面对讯问，她拒不说出自己的真实姓名，并谎称：“我家里人全都死光了，就只有一个儿子是傻子！”当警方查到她的真实情况后，她才表示，之所以撒谎是怕自己的行为给家人丢脸，">“At the time, I was naked from the waist down, and a lot of people were looking on. The cop was a guy, and didn&#8217;t dare face me. I used this kind of method to threaten the traffic officer, so he wouldn&#8217;t be able to do his job.”</span> Only after her arrest did she know she had gotten herself in serious trouble. But during questioning she refused to give her details, even lying to police: “My family is all dead, all we have is a son and he is an idiot!” Only after the police investigated and discovered her real situation did she say that her lies were because she was afraid of her behavior embarrassing her family.</p>
>When the police found the old lady&#8217;s &#8220;husband&#8221;, he said, &#8220;She&#8217;s a stubborn person, rather surly, and quite fierce! Over the years, she&#8217;s rarely returned home.”</span></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">[...]</p>
>After the trial, this reporter was able to exchange a few words with the old lady in the detention room. When her behavior that day was brought up, she suddenly burst into tears, repeatedly saying that she was very sorry to that traffic officer. “I didn&#8217;t mean to knock him out, hitting him was just to get him to leave, I didn&#8217;t think he would pass out, I&#8217;m sorry!” the old lady said while wiping her tears. She added that she has already realized her mistake, and after getting out will no longer wantonly hit people.</span></p>

>It&#8217;s just by chance that I came to take these photos. A friend, researching online, found a place called Egret Island, in a village called Hengxi. I had planned to take photos of the egrets, but after arriving there not only did I not find them, but found a brick kiln instead. I&#8217;ve always wanted to know how bricks are made and to take photos of the process, and thus I ended up spending four weeks there.</span></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><strong><span title="砖窑简介：">Brick Kiln Synopsis:</span></strong></p>
>The kiln seen in this post is a wheel kiln, also known as a ring kiln, a kind of continuous kiln. The locals say it&#8217;s the kind that you pay for with your life. The organization and operation of of wheeled kilns, when compared with tunnel kilns, means they produce less, are less efficient, have poorer working conditions, and require more intensive labour. For this reason, in 1999, national industry policy decreed that ceramic wheel kilns were to be eliminated as obsolete designs.</span></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><strong><span title="拍摄感受：">Photography Impressions:</span></strong></p>
<ol style="margin-left: 30px;">
<li><span title="1、在这里干活的窑工们（还有10几岁的童工）实在太劳累太艰辛了，他们每天要在高温下手工搬运数吨重的砖坯和成品砖，昼夜劳作，没有劳动保护，没有休息日，天天与高温、粉尘和汗水相伴。">The workers that make a living here (there are also some child laborers between 10 and 20 years old) simply work too hard, every day in the heat they carry tons of unfired bricks and finished product, working day and night. They have no work insurance, or days off. They work every day in the heat, dust and sweat.</span></li>
>The kiln workers&#8217; living conditions are appalling. The kiln&#8217;s women and children likewise endure the same hardships on the brickyard.</span></li>
<li><span title="3、红砖窑看似破旧，灰尘弥漫，无人光顾，但是，作为摄影人，当你选好角度和构图，用大广角拍摄后，你会被暖暖的天穹般的画面震撼，会有到一种你意想不到的恢宏。">The red brick kiln looks old, ashy, dusty, and neglected, but speaking as a photographer, once you&#8217;ve selected your angle and composition, after using a wide-angle, you will be stunned by the image of the warm domes, a kind of unexpected scale and size.</span></li>
<li><span title="4、当然，作为纪实摄影，画面的艺术效果与窑工的命运、与百姓的生存状态相比，是微不足道的。">Of course, as a documentary photographer, the artistry of the picture and the fate of the workers, as well as the ordinary common people&#8217;s living conditions, cannot be compared.</span></li>
</ol>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><strong><span title="看片思考：">Thoughts While Reviewing Photographs:</span></strong></p>
>Looking at the pictures while looking online for information, it turns out that this fiery red kiln was built on what was originally farmland. that the villagers&#8217; complaints have, to this day, not been addressed (see additional image), and that there are signs that the brick kiln also uses child labour (see additional image). After the illegal and serious labor problems of some &#8220;black&#8221; [illegal] brick kilns in Shanxi province were exposed, it gained the close attention of President Hu Jintao and other high-level leaders of the central government. It looks like in some far-off areas, this problem still exists. But if that&#8217;s the case, what about the local party officials under whose nose this is going on? Where are the management practices of the local government with regard to enterprises in the village? Do they even care after they receive payment?</span></p>

<p>This curious story was originally posted by someone called Yuan Shengtai. I point this out because he has the strange habit of referring to himself in the third person.</p>
<p><strong>On a <a title="直击：乞丐假装瘫痪瞒过民警骗乞！" href="http://blog.sina.com.cn/s/blog_518cc2930100n1g9.html" target="_blank">Sina blog</a>: </strong></p>
<h3 style="padding-left: 30px;"><span title="直击：乞丐假装瘫痪瞒过民警骗乞！">Beggar fakes paralysis, deceiving even the police, to cheat people!</span></h3>
>When coming across unfortunate beggars in the big cities, many passersby who are not in a rush to get somewhere and are kind-hearted might generously open their wallets. Yuan Shengtai has foolishly given away money like this before, but now that he thinks about it, he is regretting it. Recently there have been reports of beggars on the metro pretending to be crippled, taking advantage of passengers to get their money, and<a href="http://www.chinasmack.com/2010/pictures/beijing-subway-child-beggar-attacks-young-woman-rider.html" target="_blank"> stories of those who attack those pretty girls who don&#8217;t pay up</a>. At the time, Yuan Shengtai was even thinking, whether or not that person is really crippled, are you, as a well-intentioned person, really unable to tell?</span></p>
>Last Saturday October 16, or the day before yesterday at around 2pm, Yuan Shengtai was crossing the pedestrian bridge in front of Zhongguancun Building in Haiding when he witnessed an old beggar who lay on the ground pretending to be crippled. When he was photographed and exposed, he twice stood up to yell at Yuan Shengtai. Afterwards, the civil police told Yuan Shengtai: &#8220;Thanks for seeing him for who he really is. Over the last few days we have seen with our very eyes, he slowly drags himself from this bridge to that one, then pull himself back down to street level, so we always thought he was a real cripple.&#8221; See, see how good at faking it this beggar is, even tricking the cops, haha.</span></p>
>The following 18 pictures are a chronological account of the real events. If you want to know what really happened when the dishonest beggar was found out, please follow Yuan Shengtai&#8217;s lens.</span></p>
<p><a href="http://www.chinasmack.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/china-fake-crippled-beggar-01.jpg" rel="lightbox[22114]"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-22309" title="china-fake-crippled-beggar-01" src="http://www.chinasmack.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/china-fake-crippled-beggar-01.jpg" alt="Pedestrians look back at a beggar lying on the ground." width="460" height="690" /></a></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><span title="P1：原生泰一上天桥就看见人们眼睛往一个地方瞧。">As Yuan Shengtai climbed to the top of the pedestrian bridge, he noticed everyone looking at something.</span></p>
<p><a href="http://www.chinasmack.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/china-fake-crippled-beggar-02.jpg" rel="lightbox[22114]"><img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-22323" title="china-fake-crippled-beggar-02" src="http://www.chinasmack.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/china-fake-crippled-beggar-02-560x373.jpg" alt="A crippled beggar in China?" width="560" height="373" /></a></p>
>Following their gaze, the camera lens shows a supposedly crippled beggar on the ground begging.</span></p>
<p><a href="http://www.chinasmack.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/china-fake-crippled-beggar-03.jpg" rel="lightbox[22114]"><img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-22311" title="china-fake-crippled-beggar-03" src="http://www.chinasmack.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/china-fake-crippled-beggar-03-560x373.jpg" alt="A crippled beggar in China?" width="560" height="373" /></a></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><span title="P3：拍这张时，从乞丐眼神看得出来，乞丐发现了原生泰拿相机">As this photo is taken, we can see from the beggar&#8217;s expression that he has noticed Yuan Shengtai&#8217;s camera pointing at him.</span></p>
<p><a href="http://www.chinasmack.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/china-fake-crippled-beggar-04.jpg" rel="lightbox[22114]"><img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-22308" title="china-fake-crippled-beggar-04" src="http://www.chinasmack.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/china-fake-crippled-beggar-04-560x373.jpg" alt="A fake handicapped beggar in China?" width="560" height="373" /></a></p>
>The once &#8220;paralyzed&#8221; beggar suddenly straightened up his upper body and his mouth began cursing Yuan Shengtai. It was this action that began to expose him.</span></p>
>At this point Yuan Shengtai circled around behind the beggar. Next to him were two other people that had come up the bridge at the same time. As they walked, one said: &#8220;So old, and disabled too, poor man.&#8221; Yuan Shengtai looked at them and said: &#8220;Don&#8217;t leave, he might stand up and come over to beat me.&#8221;</span></p>
>The two replied, &#8220;Surely not! He&#8217;s clearly a paraplegic, lying there on the ground, isn&#8217;t he?&#8221; Just as they said this, the beggar turned around his head around and seeing that Yuan Shengtai had not left, <em>whoosh! </em>he jumped to his feet, quick as a flash, before Yuan Shengtai could even get a picture of it. :)</span></p>
<p><a href="http://www.chinasmack.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/china-fake-crippled-beggar-05.jpg" rel="lightbox[22114]"><img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-22312" title="china-fake-crippled-beggar-05" src="http://www.chinasmack.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/china-fake-crippled-beggar-05-560x373.jpg" alt="A beggar who was pretending to be crippled suddenly stands up to walk away." width="560" height="373" /></a></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><span title="P5：看，已经站起来了，在收拾他的东西。">Look, he&#8217;s standing up now, picking up his things.</span></p>
<p><a href="http://www.chinasmack.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/china-fake-crippled-beggar-06.jpg" rel="lightbox[22114]"><img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-22313" title="china-fake-crippled-beggar-06" src="http://www.chinasmack.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/china-fake-crippled-beggar-06-560x373.jpg" alt="A beggar who was pretending to be crippled suddenly stands up to walk away." width="560" height="373" /></a></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><span title="P6：边收拾边回头冲原生泰骂骂咧咧。">Gathering everything up, hurling abuse at Yuan Shengtai all the while.</span></p>
<p><a href="http://www.chinasmack.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/china-fake-crippled-beggar-07.jpg" rel="lightbox[22114]"><img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-22314" title="china-fake-crippled-beggar-07" src="http://www.chinasmack.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/china-fake-crippled-beggar-07-560x373.jpg" alt="A beggar who was pretending to be crippled suddenly stands up to walk away." width="560" height="373" /></a></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><span title="P7：看，就是这样，凶巴巴的一直冲到原生泰面前，指着原生泰开骂。">Just like this, he charged at Yuan Shengtai, pointing and swearing.</span></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><span title="乞丐（有口音，大意）：你拍什么？">Beggar (had a heavy accent, but the gist of it was): Why are you taking photos?</span></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><span title="原生泰：你不残废干吗假装瘫痪骗人？">Yuan Shengtai: You&#8217;re not disabled, why are you pretending to be paralyzed to trick/cheat people?</span></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><span title="乞丐：你管不着。">Beggar: It&#8217;s none of your business.</span></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><span title="原生泰：你在这里骗人我看见了就要管。">Yuan Shengtai: You&#8217;re here conning people out of money and I saw it so it <em>is</em> my business.</span></p>
>Then he tried to follow Yuan Shengtai down the stairs, so Yuan Shengtai ignored him. But, to his surprise, when Yuan Shengtai had reached the traffic lights after coming off the stairs, he turned around and, where did he go? As it turned out, even following Yuan Shengtai down the stairs was a ruse, he just wanted to shoo away the stickybeak Yuan Shengtai.</span></p>
>Yuan Shengtai mulled over it, and realised that the old beggar was probably still at it on the bridge, so he went back up. His EXIF camera records the time at which pictures were taken, so the next series of photos record what happened six minutes later.</span></p>
<p><a href="http://www.chinasmack.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/china-fake-crippled-beggar-08.jpg" rel="lightbox[22114]"><img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-22315" title="china-fake-crippled-beggar-08" src="http://www.chinasmack.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/china-fake-crippled-beggar-08-560x373.jpg" alt="A Chinese beggar pretends to be disabled=" /></a></p>
看样子多可怜啊">Back on the bridge and sure enough, that beggar is still going, lying on the ground begging. He looks so unfortunate.</span></p>
<p><a href="http://www.chinasmack.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/china-fake-crippled-beggar-09.jpg" rel="lightbox[22114]"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-22316" title="china-fake-crippled-beggar-09" src="http://www.chinasmack.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/china-fake-crippled-beggar-09.jpg" alt="A Chinese beggar pretends to be disabled=" /></a></p>
>In the background you can see the civil police on duty, which is good news. Yuan Shengtai&#8217;s knights in shining armor.</span></p>
原生泰走过去和民警的对话：">Since it&#8217;s often reported that beggars operate in gangs, Yuan Shengtai was worried that if he took it too far a whole group would appear to take care of him. But seeing the police made him relax, haha. Yuan Shengtai went over to the civil police and told them:</span></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><span title="原生泰：警察同志，那个乞丐是个假瘫子，骗人的。">Yuan Shengtai: Officers, that beggar is pretending to be crippled, he&#8217;s tricking people.</span></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><span title="民警：不会吧？那不是趴地下动不了吗？">Police: No way, are you sure? Isn&#8217;t he on the ground because he is paralyzed?</span></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><span title="原生泰：我刚才拍了，他能站起来，动作很利索。">Yuan Shengtai: I just took some photos of it, he can stand up, he&#8217;s quite able bodied.</span></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><span title="民警：是吗？放给我看看。">Police: Really? Show me.</span></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">&#8230;&#8230;</p>
>After seeing Yuan Shengtai&#8217;s photos, the Civil Police said: &#8220;Well, yes, he can stand like an able bodied person. &#8220;Thanks for seeing him for who he really is. Over the last few days we have seen with our very eyes, he slowly drags himself from this bridge to that one, then pulls himself back down to street level, so we always thought he was a real cripple.&#8221;</span></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><span title="正说话中原生泰转过脸来，那乞丐又发现了原生泰，于是又有了下面的图片：">Just as they said this Yuan Shengtai turned around, and the old beggar saw him. See the photos below for what happened next.</span></p>

<h3 style="padding-left: 30px;"><span title="卖淫女'行大礼',警察怎消受的起?">Prostitute paraded, how can the police bear to do this?</span></h3>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><span>In August of this year, the Sanzhong police station of Qingxi town in Dongguan city publicised photos of a prostitution suspect, which sparked heated debate. This was not an isolated case: recently, the Xishan branch of the Kunming Public Security Bureau kicked off a wide ranging initiative against places of entertainment. On the same night, a photo of a kneeling woman spread online and became a heated topic of discussion. Many netizens thought that the police had been too &#8220;violent&#8221; in their enforcement of the law, and called for prostitutes to be afforded proper respect. (October 26 &#8220;Hua Sheng Zai Xian [voc.com.cn]&#8220;)</span></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">[..]</p>
>Streetwalkers indeed damage the city&#8217;s image, and the police cracking down on them is reasonable and legal. But, what must be acknowledged is that these prostitutes aren&#8217;t doing these kind of things completely voluntarily. a lot of them are forced to do it by their situation. Let me ask this: What rich family&#8217;s daughter would go to the side of the road to solicit customers? Of course, those lazy women who turn to prostitution out of laziness are another story.</span></p>
>But, going back, no matter what, prostitutes are still citizens, and although they&#8217;ve broken the law, their basic rights should be respected. Parading them around on the streets, and publicising their personal details is a breach of their privacy. Although in this day and age there are still some that continue the practice of kneeling, it&#8217;s still hard to be sure if they willingly do it or are forced to. But from the pictures online, it&#8217;s very likely that the woman in question was made to kneel. You can see from the photo that her hands are tied behind her back, and there are some police behind her making her get down.</span></p>
>On the gates of many Public Security Bureaus, we can see the words &#8220;Strictly Enforce the Law, Enthusiastically Serve the People&#8221; in big letters. It can&#8217;t be denied that as society develops, law enforcement has become more civilised, but, most unfortunately, sometimes we still see some uncivilised actions committed in the enforcement of the law. The police need to continually strive to improve their basic quality, and the media needs to further its supervision of them.</span></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">[...]</p>

You&#8217;re calling for streetwalkers to be &#8220;afforded respect&#8221;? If they had self-respect would they be out there whoring? Why don&#8217;t they afford themselves the proper respect and stop being prostitutes? I really don&#8217;t get it. You people, the police catch a prostitute, and if you don&#8217;t support that, that&#8217;s one thing, but attacking the police, I don&#8217;t know what you&#8217;re thinking, unless you want the police to kneel each time they arrest someone??? Last week (October 27) Anthony Suarez, the mayor of the borough of Ridgefield, was acquitted of extortion. Suarez&#8217; success seems to be the exception to the rule, with many public servants in New Jersey being convicted of corruption.</p>
<p>Chinese netizens bring a unique point of view to the story, jaded as they are by local corruption in their own lives. The post translated below dates back to August of 2009, shortly after the most extensive part of Operation Big Rig, in which 44 people, many of whom were local politicians, were arrested. Many posts expressed disbelief, but not at the dishonesty of American politicians, instead at the cheap price at which they could be bought.</p>
