Former Premier Zhu Rongji Missed By Chinese Netizens

zhu-rongji-former-china-premier-2009-national-day-parade-1Zhu Rongji was China’s Premier from 1998-2003 and many Chinese citizens are very fond of him. There has not been much news about him since he ended his office as Premier so many Chinese noticed his brief appearance on camera at the 2009 National Day Parade to celebrate the New China’s 60 year anniversary. Many Chinese were also angry that CCTV did not show him longer, especially compared to many other Chinese government officials.

From NetEase:

During the National Day Military Parade, did you see Premier Zhu?? He already has a head full of silver hair!!

Why is it that this year’s National Day 60th anniversary military parade left us not with that deep sense of national prestige and military might but rather more regret and hurt??

During the People’s Republic of China’s 60th Anniversary military parade, we saw Premier Zhu !! He already has a head full of silver hair, silently, peacefully standing on the farthest side!!!

The Premier is old, a head full of silver hair, silently choosing to stand on the farthest side!! Even the media’s cameras treat him with such stinginess!! Just a flash [of him] before moving on!!!

The Premier, it has been too long too long since he has appeared in the public eye and the media’s lenses!!

Suddenly seeing the Premier’s head full of silver hair!! My eyes immediately became wet!! Premier, the hero of a generation!! Premier, now old!!

Why did the media treat this old man with such stinginess? Could the camera not have stopped a few more seconds???

Just a flash before moving on!!

Premier Zhu, our beloved Premier!!!

The people will not forget you old man!!!

The ordinary common people miss you old man!!!

May the Premier be healthy and live a long life!!!

Comments from NetEase:

It has been a long time since there has been news about him, very low-key.

zf_wn:

Seeing his white hair, I was a little sad.

linkeeyon011:

The people who should have had close-ups did not get close-ups. Even the Premier that had devoted himself to the citizens did not have a close-up, silently standing on the very farthest side!!!

Let’s look at what this year’s military parade has given the citizens??

The crowds eyes are sharp!! Today, posts related to “Premier Zhu military parade” and related posts number in the tens of thousands!!!

Those who do practical things for the citizens, the citizens will not forget!!

湘楚汉:

Premier Zhu, the citizens will always remember you!!
CCTV, apologize to the entire country’s citizens!!!

猫走狗路:

Honestly, the entire time, I wanted to get a good look at Premier Zhu,  but unfortunately there was only a flash.

zhshengg:

NND, why does National Day still need to give Jiang [Jiang Zemin] so many shots??? It should give our ex-Premier Zhu more shots instead, as everyone misses the old man more!

土家小子:

Premier Zhu, you are amongst the country’s government leaders that I most admire. If it is possible, we truly hope you can serve another term as the country’s Premier! Because there are too many corrupt officials now, still tyrannizing [the people]…

hxa129:

How many clean officials like him does China have?

jidali198118:

The media is really fucking disappointing.

Leave PP alone. He’s on a mission from god. Wakes up 11am. 11.05am has a big splash. 11.15am double kimchi and rice. 11.30am asks mummy for his daily pocket money and then hotfoots to the pc room, where he experiences the power of the keyboard. I say no more: we all benefit from his revelations. Whatever, chinasmack would be the poorer without his presence. Good call Fauna.

    AHAHAHAHA

Everyone over 60 has a head full of silver hair, it’s just that all the famous ones dye it, it’s very easy to do when your natural hair is black.

Ignorant fucks, do you think all your leaders have a shiny black mane when they’re sixty fucking years old? It’s no more real than the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park.

As for this guy, he got purged, he must have pissed someone off really badly, it’s the system you live, get used to it.

the comment was meant to be contrasting with the brownly-dyed jiang, of similar age. showing who the people love and who they hate.
this is the irony chinese netizen invented, given the censorship environment, one needs to take indirect insinnuation to speak out.

Maybe I’m wrong. But I doubt it.

And anyway… was just ONE of the things that was wrong with the ‘parade’. For example….
did anyone else catch THE GIANT PICTURE OF DENG XIAOPING THAT WAS WHEELED PAST TIANANMEN SQUARE? AND THE TANKS? BAD TASTE? A LITTLE?
    Dumb Chinese morons.

      “Dumb Chinese morons”???

Deng reversed the course brought about by the Cultural Revolution. In less than 30 years more people are lifted out of poverty than anywhere else in the world during the same period or ever. China is now overtaking Japan as the 2nd biggest economy and is the US largest creditor.

      Certainly not dumb or moronic.

When I saw Mr. Zhu on the screen I was exciting, but he was disappeared in one second and may not come back again!!! He was the only Chinese government official I had admired in this 60 years. He was the best government official I had ever seen in this country.
But from this picture, he looked very sad. He didn’t look like enjoyed the celebration. He just looked like was attending something else(don’t want to say).

I believe it was his choice to stay out of public eye after his tenure, he said it before retiring. Again I don’t think he had a choice but to appear otherwise it would set tongues wagging. There was no purge, his appearance proved it. Probably he gave instructions to have as little media coverage as possible.

AS far as i know some of korean are very radical, cuz even their technologies are a little advanced than china, but they feel very unhappy or insecure when they look to china, especial the fact that korea had been a client state for very long time in the history. And most of their culture has been huge impacted or imported from china. But they alwasy deny this fact.

Just state the fact that the reputation of korean in china is very bad, one thing i need to mention is that more than 200 korean company flee away china at one night and left unpaid labor workers at the time when china government increased the tax for all foreigner companys, which left very bad impression for korean company.

Most of factory in china they are afraid to do business with korean, i have been working in foreign trade area for more than 4 years, by the way.

This is what i know about korean, lots of good stuffs from korea though, and i really appreciate that.

Hasn’t every 2nd banana in the Chinese hierarchy been loved? Zhou Enlai, Zhu Rongji, Wen Jiabao. I do think Zhu would have been better than Jiang Zemin as top leader, but maybe it is the nature of the position that there is good cop/bad cop. Both Hu and Wen can’t do the ‘Grandpa’ Hu/Wen schtick–only one can, the second one. The top got gets too much ill will and the 2nd one gets too many good ones. Zhou Enlai might have saved a few people here and there, but was basically spineless to prevent greater suffering.

Or maybe it is just the nature of the personality that allows them to settle for second position, while the more ambitious person has a bit of a crueler streak.
