I was pretty disgusted until i read Kai’s comment. I do like looking at cars, i do like checking out gadgets, and i guess i can see why someone would like looking at jewelry and handbags. However i still feel the comments showed something terrible. All that envy, being impressed with the girl, wanting to be like her isn’t the same as me admiring cars. I admire the cars but i don’t think i have ever felt envious of their owners. I say that accept some people like different things, but the comments here are still showing something very negative.

There are American websites based around people showing off pics of their outfits, I like looking at those because you can see how different people put different touches into the way they dress, and sometimes people pair things together in unexpected ways, and that keeps it interesting.
But this fascination with obscenely expensive things just because they’re obscenely expensive? I just don’t get it. It’s kinda sickening how impressed people are. I mean, this is entirely beyond the way I would admire someone’s cute shoes or nice dress. And these things are neither cute nor nice, aesthetically speaking, IMO. But well, to each their own if some people admire this “look”, if “desperate to look rich” even qualifies as a “look”. But it doesn’t even seem to be about that. One poster said it was the most exciting thing ever? Um… really? It’s the most exciting thing ever to see an internet post from someone who claims to be rich?
So basically a lot of people aspire to be rich just so they can show off some gaudy-looking shit? And failing that, they hope to make a rich friend, likely so they can mooch off of her, if she really is rich, as she claimed.

I’m an age-old member of The Car Lounge, even before it existed on its own and was simply a subforum for VWVortex. I still mostly lurk there to stay up to date on car news because I simply like cars. I can say for certain I’ve seen plenty of guys make similar posts and comments, showing off their cars or modifications, and other people admiring them, even envying them, as well as sometimes asking “what is it that you do to afford all of this?!?”
So the phenomenon is really nothing shocking to me, and only personally appalling to me insofar as encouraging such phenomenon in women would run contrary to my interests as a man. LoL.
Liba indeed is a haven for these types of girls. They’re the same high school girls in the West who strive to strut around school with the latest designer bag or shoes or whatever because they’ve bought into the Sex and the City mystique. Every society on earth worships wealth and materialism to some extent, and I don’t think China is really that different in this regard. It is also easier to be dazzled by displays of wealth in poor China than most Western societies where there are is less disparity in visual wealth. A Ferrari in the middle of a sea of Santanas in Shanghai is going to be more impressive than a Ferrari in a sea of Benzes and Bimmers in Los Angeles.
The rich Chinese are on par with rich Westerners. The problem is that the poor to middle-class Chinese are relatively far below the poor to middle-class Westerners.
