As a glossary that is meant to help shed light on what is commonly seen on BBS forums, I think 操 would be the, uh, “variant” to highlight. Looking at the link, it seems at least one English-Chinese dictionary has accepted it as “fuck.” Either way, though, the glossary wouldn’t be very useful if people are using it to figure out what all the 操s meant, never once seeing 肏 in action, right?

That said, maybe the 牛屄 or 傻屄 entry should highlight a more ubiquitous variant like 逼 or even 比 instead of the actual 屄, as 哈哈哈 said. I’ve never seen 屄 before.

肏 is the real deal. I mean look at it. 入to enter. 肉 meat/flesh. Enter meat. Definitely the real character for fuck. I’m no scientist nor have I read any material on the subject but I’m guessing using 操 is more convenient or something. The whole awesome and useful Chinasmack glossary is a living testimony to the fact that for some reason Chinese people prefer to abbreviate or substitute curse words. Why say SY instead of 手淫？I dunno, but I’m sure it’s for the same reason people use 操 instead of 肏 and 逼 instead of 屄 .

Hi Lao Zhong,Both are correct but 操 is more common. I do not think I have ever seen 肏 used before to mean "fuck." I hope the glossary can provide easy explanation for what is usually seen on BBS forums. 肏 is not usually see on BBS forums. Hope that answer your question.

Why, in the glossary, do you use the 操 character for ‘F***’ when it is clearly not the correct one?
肏 is the real word.

Potomacker: the expression you use is extremely rude in England. I mean TERRIBLE. Between lovers – impossible! They will no longer be lovers after using such words. Say this in public and someone will hit you. (This does not mean I don’t hear it in the street – I do. Often :-) )
