There are currently 22 pages of replies suggesting many interesting and funny phrases that have become popular trends on the Chinese internet. Below, I have selected and translated some that I am personally familiar with or have seen often. You may also recognize them from some of the translated comments in chinaSMACK’s past posts. I have included the original Chinese text, which may be more helpful for some of you to better understand the internet meme and why it is popular:

What does the one about Obama mean? Can someone explain?
it’s a line from a TV series (huan zhu ge ge), basically the emperor had a daughter he didn’t know about. when the daughter met the emperor, first thing she asked was “do you still remember Xia Yuhe on the bank of Daming Lake?”
well, there was this funny article about how obama met this woman and had an affair and a daughter. the characters in this article used lines from that cheesy tv series. it’s a joke sort thing.
It comes from a very popular TV series called ‘the return of the pearl princess’ in 1997. The story is about a king of Qing dynasty secretly went out of the forbidden city travel over his land.In his journey he met the girl Xia Yuhe on the bank of Daming Lake and fell in love with her.After a short stay the king left without konwing Xia bore his daughter. Day by day the daughter grew up and came back to recognize her royal family by herself finally.
