Brilliance BS4 ADAC Crash Test Result: 0 Stars

Three days ago, the ADAC released the crash test results for the Chinese-made Brilliance BS4 car. Here are some Chinese reactions:

From KDS:

ADAC test results say it is at most the safety standards of 10 years ago. Collision experiments show:  After the crash there is a serious threat to life, especially at 64km/h side impact there is almost no possibility of survival.

So Germany’s ADAC gave Brilliance the lowest points of 0 stars out of 5 stars. Although the price is attractive, the test results cast a shadow upon domestic cars hoping to enter and compete in the European market.  downloading

川沙特派员 sonicwy:

LZ, don’t Japanese cars get very high points?
But go take a look at the Japanese cars driven on the roads within the country.
How many of them can survive a crash with a Brilliance?
I am referring to those around the 100,000 [RMB price] range.

Niihilwan Niihilwan:

You are very shanzhai…during a traffic accident, are the people more important or the car more important…foreign evaluation agencies all use the person’s safety as the foundation…including pedestrian’s protection…impact absorption and materials deformation is a concept from 30 years ago…

一天一点 odop:

Domestic cars can only survive a crash with bicycles.

Niihilwan Niihilwan:

It looks like Brilliance does not have much to make excuses…from the shape of the impact, it is too horrible to look at…flying parts, the entire safety design completely had no modular design consideration. If the side is weak, they can add a crossbeam in the door to reinforce it…

Hehe, private enterprises are still working hard for their basic survival, I will give them some time. downloading

heihei shkuku:

Brilliance is state-owned.

I think Germans are a little black, the collision speed is faster than normal, but of course the car itself has defects. To have the Germans do this test proves they are taking us seriously, and that we have an impact on their products, which can also be considered progress.  downloading

紫电 kavalier:

I want to first state that I am not wu mao, but I work with car companies a lot for my job and this test by Germans is indeed rather dirty. A few years ago the Changfeng Liebao was selling very well in Europe, so they released a report saying the Liebao was trash. This has the German automakers’ manipulation behind it, anyone with a normal IQ understands.

紫电 kavalier:

The last word in ADAC is “Club”, it is a non-profit organization. A few years ago the [JMC, Jiangling] Landwind that was tested did not come from the factory, and dealers would also not take their own stock to go crash-test. ADAC has been established for over 100 years and never had an interest in testing Chinese cars. It was only when Chinese cars using low prices entered and competed in the European market that they began testing, everyone knows. Our domestic cars’ quality is poor, but our improvements over the past few years is very evident. Everyone think of the Japanese cars after the second World War, they were also bad, without the Japanese people’s support, they would not be what they are today.

吟风弄月 elevenlala:

If the Germans had this little money, could they produce a car with higher points? downloadingdownloading
How come they do not dare to test the Santana? The Germans are afraid of being exposed?

vwweirenjia:

Brilliance is continuously improving, this must be acknowledged! The same NCAP test, after Brilliance made some small improvements, in Spain had completely different results!

The facts prove that we are indeed backwards, and being backwards deserves being attacked, and there is nothing to be done about it. If we do not use our energy to develop and raise our technical level, always YY our own products this or that, wanting to exceed this or that, please, look at the reputation they have for making cars??? What is our reputation for making cars???

JWU ntergang:

Ridiculous, saying ADAC takes money. ADAC’s standards are definitely the entire world’s best standards, and the Germans on this aspect are absolutely honest. Germany’s DIN standards are even more niubi than the world’s ISO standards.

川沙特派员 sonicwy:

The Junjie’s points are already 3 stars.
However, because of the lack of active safety technology, especially ESP and seatbelt reminder system, it was completely negated, and its score became zero stars.  downloadingdownloadingdownloading

Wow, this quote made my day LOL

But seriously, some Chinese people need to change! Stop looking at the gold in front of them (eye front gold <- translate that into Chinese), and start looking forward, into quality and security – aka the long run. Being Chinese myself, I feel shameful all the time that people see us as cheap, and fake makers because there are too many people out there, instead of using their innovative side to invent something, they use it to copy goods, make fakes, and etc. Sometimes these fakes harm people too. I believe that people should stop looking down on that single gold coin on the ground, and look up to see the giant pot of gold lying ahead if they do things honestly (aka, it will pay off in the long run) – honestly, people need to see that earning that small amount of gold means nothing if others are harmed, it just never pays off.

Stop creating cheap goods to earn that small amount of gold, like this car. Use the technology and knowledge to make good quality, mid priced cars or any goods instead, where the giant pot of gold lies (being a Chinese along with my friends, we can’t help but to laugh at the shameful car we had build, a 0 star car) *sigh

I am a man of innovation, so someday I am going back to China and start a brand where everyone can trust its quality (a non-food related product since the most trusted brands in China are mostly food/medicine related), but that is, after I graduate (long way off).

P.S. – Well, this is my theory at least, on why there are so many cheap goods (fake or not) in China that harms people. Money is important, but people are even more so. In another word, us, Chinese are a bit too materialistic (too greedy for money), thus we must change this kind of thinking if we want to live a good life.

I concur. Because many products are completely novel to most Chinese, they don’t really care about quality so much as price. By the second or third time they’re forced to by the same product, only brands with a strong reputation for quality will gain market share.

That’s the typical answer I often hear from Chinese from the mainland when goods from china end up in the media for the wrong things.

If a company wants a product to be successful in a market it wants to sell its goods, it has to pass the test in that market like everyone else.

Rather than question the tests or label the people bias, admit the product is not up to the required standard as the competition and go back to the drawing board and improve.

This clearly shows what type of standards required for cars in europe.

Don’t people in china want their products to be of higher quality and safer?

Just look at the traffic here,, it is an absolute joke. If you guys want to sell cars in Europe and America then do your homework first,, as opposed to China where people don’t think twice about jumping on a scooter with the wife on the back and the kid wedged in between the handlebars and the seat in the west we actually think about what might happen to our family and kids if we were in an accident.

“The world would be stunned if every day an airliner carrying 300 passengers crashed in China. But the fact is that such a casualty actually happens, albeit not in the sky but on the roads.

The latest figures, released by the public security department, show that the country saw nearly 100,000 people die on its roads last year – the world’s largest group of victims of traffic accidents.

In terms of the commonly used “deaths per 10,000 vehicles” index, China’s record was 9.2 last year, as compared with 15.45 in 1999. While in developed countries, the number is generally below 5.

Officials also revealed that China’s vehicles account for only 2 per cent of the world’s total, but they cause more than 15 per cent of its total road deaths.”

    This was written in 2005.

In my opinion its not all about the safety of the cars, its the complete ignorance of the people using the road. I dont know what the law says but it appears that people only care about what is in front of them. Everyone else can go fuck themselves.

How many people have seen drivers backing up or just straight driving backwards on the highway (ring road), into oncoming traffic, because they missed their exit? Or had drivers who turn their lights off at night to try and cut “electricity costs”. Been pissing off the shoulder (outside Beijing) and had some asshole bombing down he shoulder at you honking like you should move. The best is take a look at the concrete barriers near toll booths. They are all bashed down to the bars. I even saw a dump truck do a wheely. Not really a driving story, but he was dropping a load under a bridge, the bucket hit the top of the bridge, the load fell out and shot the whole front end up in the air, with all the wait on the back couple tires. The bus drivers scare me more than anything, they just go where they want to and you better move. I am scared that one of them will come crashing through my apartment one day and I live on the 12th floor.

Yeah…talking about Chinese driving here is a funny article from http://www.shenzhenparty.com/answers/chinese-driving-licence-exam-question-ba

    You know you’re a Chinese driver when….
    You park on a corner
You double park on a corner
You park on a pedestrian crossing
You drive down the speed lane at 20km per hour talking on the phone
You indicate your turn after you make it
You stop in the middle of the freeway to answer the phone
You stop in the middle of the freeway because you’re lost
Traffic rules only apply to everyone else
You go the wrong way up the on ramp to a freeway to avoid a traffic jam
You don’t know the meaning of ‘Give way’, ‘Yield’, ‘Stop’
You make a left turn from 5 lanes to the right
You make a right turn from 5 lanes to the left
You drive using ‘The force’ or ‘Qi Gong’ in Chinese
You block rush hour traffic because you scratched another car in front and argue about how much money you should pay or get
You block rush hour traffic after a minor accident until you can pay off the other driver
You block rush hour traffic after a minor accident until the other driver pays you
You both block rush hour traffic after an accident until you can both pay off the traffic police
You are surprised to see laowai’s driving cars. You though only Chinese could drive because cars were invented in China….Weren’t they?
Everywhere you go you must blow your car horn once every 5 meters
When pedestrians on a cross walk MUST give way to you.
You do a ‘U’ turn in a one way street
Everyone on the road MUST give way to you
You overtake someone just to stop in front of them
You don’t let anyone in front of you because they will get to the red traffic light first
You drive down the centre lane on a double lane highway until you decide which lane you want
You reverse back up the freeway because you missed your exit by 2 kms
You make a ‘U’ turn into oncoming traffic because you missed your exit by 2 kms
Your hazard (flashers) act as a force field against on coming traffic when you do this
You use the sidewalk as an extra lane
Drinking alcohol actually improves your driving
You use ‘peak hour’ traffic to practice your driving
You know how to do the 27 point ‘U’ turn
You drive at night with no lights on to save the light bulbs
You drive down the middle of the centre lane at night because you can’t see where you’re going
It cost you ten dollars to get a drivers licence that you didn’t have to take a test for
Your driving your BMW and everyone bows when they see you go by.
Slept your way into the BMW you’re driving
You need 15 clear car spaces to park you car and It’s a QQ
You don’t give way to ambulances with their flashing lights on
You drive faster than police cars

The car looks so good. But, performs so poorly… just like the San Lu milk products.

I am Chinese and proud of it BUT… I will NEVER, EVER, EVER buy a Chinese car. I am a car guy and have been a grease monkey all my life. I’ve examined many Chinese cars of my co-workers (in China of course) and these machines (not going to name) are just not built to last, even the RMB200K+ ones are disappointing.

Some western countries have used deceased bodies for car crash research. Since the Falun Gong people are often used as organ “donors” in China, why not use some live bodies for car crash tests.

I’ve got it! After a very long time I have realized what the law is on the road. Here it is…….
You can do ANYTHING you like [risking everyone’s life around you] for example driving the wrong way down a bicycle lane IF, you lean on your horn for at least 3 seconds before you do it.
Its like this, I have leaned on my horn and you have heard me. Now that you know I am here it is up to you to get out of MY way NOW. If you don’t then it’s your fault.

This rating is wrong in so many levels.

It did not deserve a 0 star rating. My website tells why.
3 star front impact rating, 4 star side impact rating. This is all BS.

Ive worked in the Chinese car industry for over 10 years and been to Brilliance many times. I wouldnt buy one. Advanced Collision protection has been something the Euro OEMs have been working on for decades. Chinese Car companies just started crash testing ten years ago and that was with their own tests. Serious crash testing buy leading outside firms has only been around a few years in the local market. You can’t argue with the science of the tests.Facts are a stubborn thingg.

    “A plot by German devils.
They are afraid they cannot sell their [VW] Santanas.”

That comment is funny. Besides that model being used for taxis, I have no idea why would anyone want to buy a Santana! Santana sales have dropped because the Chinese are finally learning the Santana sucks. WHy else do you think the all new VW Lavida came out of nowhere. With Lavida, Bora, Polo and Santana sort of all in the similar price range. Santana is the surely the worst among the four and you don’t even need to be bias to see why! Santana is the 1980’s Passat with a facelift, So obselete!

Now back to the star rating. Pretty much all cars in the international market have 5 stars. No excuse. Korean cars have 5 stars so you don’t need sly comments like these “If Brilliance was BMW, I bet it would be 5 stars.” You don’t need an European car to get the 5 stars.

Seeing this “3 star front impact rating, 4 star side impact rating.” It doesn’t really matter becuase you should achieve a 5. Its either a 5 or a fail! I remember i read somewhere that getting the 5 stars is not so hard anymore. COME ON! EVEN A TINY CAR LIKE MAZDA 2 HAS 5 STARS! NO EXCUSE FOR THIS MID SIZE SEDAN LIKE BRILLIANCE BS TO NOT GET THE 5 STARS! Again its either a 5 or a fail!

FYI: Chery A3 got 5 stars. So yes Chinese cars can achieve it. But the the Chery QQ is still a very unsafe car.
